Kaneki looked at Kuri for the third time that day. Something was clearly bothering her.
He had a feeling it had to do with that Ghoul family. Ever since they had come around, she had been sighing sadly and staring out the window.
Kaneki finally had enough and came over. "What's going to happen to them?"
Kuri gave him a mournful look. "CCG already took their father, and they are going to die too."
Kaneki's eyes widened. "CCG is going to kill a little girl and her mom?!"
Kuri nodded. "I've been trying to go to their aid, but…yknow what happens."
"I'll go."
Kuri whirled and stared at him. "What…?"
"You can't interfere, right?" Kaneki said. "So I will. I'll save them."
Kuri grabbed his arm. "I don't want that! I don't want you in danger! Please Kaneki!"
Kaneki gave her a firm look. "And I don't want to watch you cry helplessly. From now on, you can be my eyes, and I'll go where you can't."
Kuri shook her head. "That's so stupid Kaneki!"
"I don't care." Kaneki leaned forward and wiped her eyes. "I've got to stop your crying somehow."

The moment Fate released her, Kuri took off running to Kaneki's side.
Her barrier protected them and hid them from view. She went over to the two agents and lectured them on their floutation of the Ghoul Protection Act, while Kaneki and Hinami escaped.
Later that evening, she arrived back home to find Kaneki looking depressed.
"I know how you feel now." He said dourly. "I was helpless. I couldn't protect anyone, and I just let Ryouko die."
Kuri lunged and grabbed his chin, forcing him to look at her. "You saved Hinami."
"I didn't DO anything!"
Kuri glared at him. "She was supposed to die. I have NEVER been able to stop death, or do anything to protect anyone from their fate…." She embraced him. "Kaneki…thank you."
Shocked, Kaneki hugged her back. "I was supposed to stop you from crying."
"Not from crying in gratitude."
