Chapter Thirty
Is This Really A Date
Kisara, after wiping herself mostly off from taking a shower, opens her bathroom door at her parents' home. Steam escapes from the bathroom. A few drops of water drip from her body. Her towel is draped around her neck and the ends cover her breasts. A happy sigh escapes her lips in anticipation of what's to come.
Her blissful moment comes to a screeching halt when she comes face to face with another woman in her room.
The woman before her is none other than her favorite intrusive maid. The maid has a glow upon her face as she looks at Kisara along with clasped hands. Lost in her thoughts, she is completely oblivious to the fact that Kisara had to stop herself mid-stride from kicking the untrained maid.
"Argh! Kozue, why the hell are you in here?"
"I figured that I could clean up while you were in the shower. I started tidying up a little bit and then I found that book on your bed." She points over to the dating book that Kisara and Sona had purchased together. "Are you going on a date with that boy?" She asks excitedly.
'Oh, shit. Here we go.' Thinks Kisara.
"Are you going today? Is that why you took a shower?"
She lets out a hefty sigh. "Yeah. I'm going today. So what?"
"Please let me help you. He seems really nice and I want this to work out."
"And what you even do to help me out? It's not like you can go on the date for me. Besides, I don't want your help."
The maid pouts, then she tries to ignore the red-head's response. "Maybe we can find something in this book. Wait! First, I've got something nice for you to wear on your date."
She proceeds to rush out the door and comes back moments later with a box. Kisara covers her face with her left hand after seeing the box.
"What the heck is this? I've got clothes you know."
Kozue brightly smiles at Kisara and lifts up the item out of the box. She stands there holding a white dress that has a knee length skirt.
"What the hell are you trying to put on me?" She shouts at the maid. "The only time I've ever worn stuff like this was when I had been out with both of my parents for appearance."
"But this is really pretty. I also worked really hard on it."
Kisara crosses her arms and glares at the maid. Kozue looks like she is about to cry.
"Look. I'm sure you worked really hard on the damn thing, but you know that's not my style. Besides, did you even look at the book at all?"
Kisara then grabs the book and opens it up to a particular page. She holds out the book for Kozue to read the page.
'So, she must be really serious about him. She did read this book and not just buy it.' The maid muses to herself.
"It says right here that if I were to wear anything other than what I normally wear, then it's a dead giveaway that someone else picked out my clothes."
"But it also says that it could also be from you trying too hard." Kozue interjects.
"You've got to be kidding me! I can't wear that. I'd feel like an idiot and a newbie to him."
"But aren't you new to this stuff? Isn't that why you have that book? I don't really recall you ever really dating before."
"Geez. Don't remind me. It's not like I've even found anyone that really suited me before. But I still can't wear that. That would be so embarrassing."
"Well, what else do you have to wear? There has to be something decent. You can't just wear what you usually wear on a first date."
Kisara shrugs and throws her hands in the air.
The maid ponders for a moment in thought, and even touches her chin while doing so. Then something comes to her and holds up an index finger as if a light bulb turned on. "What about the clothes I had you put on the day you two 'hung out.'"
Kisara's face becomes a little flushed as she remembers the clothes she wore that day, and also the perfume that Kenichi seemed to like. Then, she also remembers the 'lovers special' they got at the okonomiyaki stand.
"Yeah, I think I remember it. I've still got it. You really think that's a good idea?"
"He liked it, didn't he?"
Kisara smirks. "Well, I did catch him staring, and he did seem to like the perfume."
"Then you should definitely wear it again." Kozue energetically replies.
'I'll just make sure not to remind him about the fact that I got it from Saji.' Thinks Kisara.

Kenichi was having his own little dilemma in his room.
Blackie covers his eyes with his paws. "Could you please stop pacing."
"Sorry, Blackie. I just can't help it."
The cat rolls over onto his back. "Look, you've already been over this (especially with that book of yours). You don't have to dress fancy."
"That's what the book says. It's not like I'm going on a fancy date, right?"
"You do remember who you're going on a date with?" Asks Blackie.
Kenichi scratches the back of his head. "Yeah, I remember."
Then he also reminds himself of a line from the book. 'Don't dress too fancy when going out on a date with a tomboy. You might end up making her feel out of place and under-dressed.'
Blackie rolls over and looks up at his master. "So, I've got to ask again. Why are you asking me, a cat, for dating advice? You could just ask your dad."
"I suppose I could. It just feels weird asking my dad for advice."
Blackie narrows his eyes and cants his head to the side. "And asking a cat isn't weird either?"
Kenichi nervously laughs. Then he looks at him. "I'm kind of worried about this one paragraph in the book though."
"Oh! And which one would that be?"
"Well, it mentions how a date could end up in a fight depending on the kind of tomboy you are dating. It also says that could still end up in a happy date."
Blackie laughs. "That's precious. That author must have dated someone with Kisara's personality before."
"She's not THAT bad, right?" Kenichi hesitantly asks.
Narrowing his eyes was enough for Kenichi to turn away.
"Well, anyway, I'd like to try to avoid that as much as possible. I've done enough fighting for a while."
"Well, you are supposed to be healing up."
"Right." Kenichi agrees with a definitive nod.
There is a knock on his door. Then his mother's voice comes from behind it.
"Hey, Kenichi, is everything all right? Do we have a guest? I thought I heard another voice."
'Crap.' Kenichi and Blackie both think.
Kenichi opens the door. "Hey mom." He nervously laughs and scratches the back of his head. "This is kind of embarrassing, but I was just talking to myself."
"I see." She says skeptically." Then she looks at Blackie. "Were you pretending that Blackie was talking back to you?" She adds with a giggle.
"Yeah. That's it."
Blackie prances off and meows.
"He's so cute." His mom says. Then she looks back to her son." You look a little nice. Are you going out? Maybe on a date with that Kisara girl?"
"How did you guess?"
She waves him off. "Oh, please. That's women's intuition. Besides, you took a shower and dressed nice. It's a good thing you showered. It's always a good idea to cleanse before a date."
"Jeez, mom, you sound like priestess or something when you talk like that."
She stiffens like a deer in headlights and just simply smiles. 'I've got to come up with something witty real quick.'
She waves him off. "Oh, don't make fun of your poor mother like that. So, you like her that much?"
"I do."
"Well, I think that I can approve of her. You two seem really close. She's a little rough around the edges, but I also know for a fact that she really likes you too."
"Wait. You do?"
"Yes I do, but that's a girl's secret."
"Anything else you CAN tell me?"
She gives him a hug. "Just be happy. Don't date anyone that doesn't make you happy. And, if they mistreat you, then they will have to answer to me." She tells him with an ominous tone.
An aura almost emanates from her.
He gulps.
"Do you have enough money?" She asks.
He nods. Yeah, I've got some money.
"Should I expect you home for dinner, or are you going out?"
"I was thinking of going out to dinner with her."
"Who are you going to dinner with?" comes a shouting child's voice from down the hall.
His sister, Honoka, pops out from behind Saori. She is wearing blue jean shorts with a pink tank top on. She has short brown hair that almost resembles Kenichi's hair style.
"You're not going out with 'big boobs' Are you?"
Saori bops the top of Honoka's head with a chopping motion.
"That's rude and inappropriate, little lady."
"Owe." Honoka says while grabbing her head.
Getting past the fact that Honoka brought up Miu, He simply crouches down slightly and looks at her.
"No, it's not Miu. I told you that I'm not really a part of them anymore. It's someone else."
"Now don't be nosey, Honoka." Saori says to her.
"But, mom, if he marries her, then she could end up being a big sister. I have to approve."
"Come on now, let's leave him be."

After leaving the house, Kenichi and Blackie slowly make their way towards a meeting spot that he and Kisara agreed upon. He has a focused look on his face as he floats from watching where he is going and his book.
It doesn't take too long for him to get to his destination, which is a small pond with a bench next to it. She was already there and waiting.
'If she is already there and waiting, then there is a good chance she was really nervous about things. It's kind of cliché, but ask if she was waiting long (even if you are on time).'
"Hey, you haven't been here long, have you?"
'She will probably say 'not long' even if she's been there for a half hour.'
"Not long. I practically just got here myself." She says while scratching the back of her head.
'Don't dig into the real answer. You probably won't get one or anger her while trying. Make sure to compliment her on something. This is a chance to shine. Be OBSERVANT. Worst case scenario, just say how she looks nice. She probably did try really hard to look good for this date.'
He was going to just say exactly what the book suggested, but as he got closer to her, his senses picked up on the perfume she was wearing.
She could see a smile form on his face.
"You're wearing that nice perfume again, aren't you?"
"Well, I remembered how it seemed like you liked it. So, I decided to wear it again for you as a nice gesture."
"Gee, thanks. But, it really does smell nice on you. And you look nice, too."
She blushes slightly. 'Damn, I knew he was going to say that, but it's still affecting me like a silly girl. Ugh.'
She steps close to him and they give a quick kiss. "Thanks for the compliment, just don't give me too many of those. I don't need to become all mushy."
"We can't have that, now can we?" Kenichi says in a joking tone.
Blackie almost laughs as he imagines Kisara as a mushy, clingy girl.
"That's right. What are we doing today anyways?" She asks while crossing her arms.
He looks off to the side in thought. "Well, I was thinking of going to the arcade again. I remembered how much you enjoyed it last time and figured we could do it again ,even though you whipped my butt last time."
He turns back to her and finds that she is holding and petting Blackie. He looks at Blackie and a sigh comes out from the cat.
'So that's the girl who's taking Kenichi's attention away from me. He finally comes back to town to visit and he hasn't even spent much time with me. When did he get so close to Kisara?' Thinks Honoka while hiding behind a tree and wearing sunglasses.

Blackie watches from a rooftop as Honoka goes into the arcade that Kenichi and Kisara went into.
'What is that girl up to? Is she really just watching her brother go on a date?' He sighs. "I suppose I'll just have to let them know at some point." He mutters aloud.

Eventually, the couple comes out. Kisara is smiling and hugging a stuffed pokemon(Espeon) that Kenichi won for her from a claw machine.
"I finally got you on a game." He happily says to the red-head.
"She looks over to him. You've gotten a lot better, but you've still got a ways to go."
He was starting to make a proud pose, but then deflates when she says the second half of that sentence.
They keep walking and chit-chat about the games they played in the arcade.
After a short bit of this, Kisara completely stops and stares at something.
"What's up Kisara?" He asks in wonder, and then his eyes follow to where she is looking.
He finds that she is looking at the entrance to a pet shop.
With only Honoka a little ways behind them, Blackie decides to tease the two. "Ohhhh. Are we going to look for a girlfriend for me in there? How nice of you to do that for me while on a date together."
"Ha. Ha. Very funny. We are just going in to look, and no buying, right Kisara?"
The two of them look to where the girl was standing, but she was no longer there. Sliding doors close. Kenichi quickly goes in after his girlfriend.

After coming out of the pet shop, Blackie had finally told Kenichi and Kisara they were being tailed by Honoka.
She was hiding behind another tree and was acting like there was nothing to see while the couple approached the tree. Kenichi crosses his arms.
"What are you doing, Honoka?"
"There is no one here by that name." She says.
He quickly pulls the sunglasses off of her and she tries to snatch them back to no avail.
"How did you know it was me?" She asks.
"Sorry, but you're not Clark Kent."
She pouts.
"So, what are ya doin' here?" Kisara reiterates.
"I wanted to find out who my brother was going out on a date with. Then I just kept following after I saw it was you. I got curious about your relationship with him and I was also jealous."
"Why in the world were you jealous?" Kenichi asks.
The girl gets a little sheepish. "Well, you haven't been home much and now you're here and we still haven't spent much time together.
Kisara crosses her arms.
"Look, I promise to spend time with you, but . . " Kenichi starts to say.
Kisara cuts him. "You know, I'm not exactly fond of having a third wheel, but you're his sister. We were just about to get some dinner, why don't you come along with us. If that's all right with your brother."
Kisara looks away while Honoka looks to him hopefully.
"Are you really sure about this, Kisara?" He asks.
"Don't ask me again." She replies. 'Part of me really doesn't want her here. It's rather annoying as hell, but he has more chances to spend time with me than he has with her. So, whatever.'
'Is this really Kisara? This is really nice of her. Crap! I don't remember a scenario like this being mentioned in the book. What do I do?'
He stares into the gleaming and hopeful eyes of his little sister. And that's all it took for him to cave in.
"Alright. I've got enough on me to afford you too. Be nice to Kisara though."
"Well, she has to pass the sister test and she's already a step in the right direction." Honoka announces.
"I don't think that I really need your approval." States the red-head.
"Now you lost those points because you said that."
Kenichi chuckles a little.

As Kenichi, Kisara, and Honoka approach a restaurant, a whole bunch of Russian men exit it while wearing urban camo. One of them, whom seems to be the leader orders the others.
"Onto the next one."
They all shout in reply. "Yes, sir."
"I wonder what that's all about." Kenichi says to the others.

Halfway through dinner.
Kenichi's group had been seated and served by a waitress wearing a red top and a black apron that was also lightly decorated with a white floral pattern.
Kenichi was about to shove some rice in his mouth that he had on his chopsticks, but hears a boy a couple tables over talking to his sister after just sitting down.
"It's not fair. Why do we have to be under this Yami's control. They had no right being at our father's dojo. I don't think that they even care about the martial arts we train in."
"I'm sorry," The sister replies. "We have no choice for now. Let's just eat our food and we can talk more about this later."
'Yami!' Goes through Kenichi's head.
He was about to get up, but Kisara grabs his hand.
"Kisara, I need to talk to them. Let me talk first. Honoka, please go use the bathroom."
"But I don't think I need to." Replies the young girl.
"Just go do it anyways. I really need to talk to him about something important. Maybe I'll get you some nice chocolate to repay you."
"Alright, but I'm holding you to that."
As Honoka walks away, Kenichi sits down.
"What is it, Kisara?" He asks impatiently.
"Freya came to me the other day. She told me something that I've been wanting to tell you about, but I couldn't find the right time. She told me that Yami is going around town and attacking all of the local dojos. They've been taking them over. I don't know if Ryozanpaku is on the list or not. I also wasn't sure if it really even mattered much to you anymore.
"As much as I'd like to say that I don't care, I can't. I still associate with some of the masters. I need to know more."
He quickly gets up and goes over to the table with the brother and sister. He slightly startles them when he approaches and the sister goes to shield her brother.
"I'm sorry. Relax. I'm not here to hurt you. I overheard your conversation a minute ago and I need to know. What did these people that attacked your dojo look like?"
"They were Russian, and they were wearing grey camo. I think that they said they were almost done with their list."
A panicked look comes over him as he connects the dots in his head. "Kisara, we've gotta get Honoka, and get out of here." He turns back to the brother and sister. "I'll pay for your meals."
