The Iron Gronkcle
The teens were flying around Berk looking for an Outcast ship that was spotted sailing nearby, however, Fishlegs and Meatlug were left behind
"We missed it" Snotlout said before he and the teens except for Fishlegs landed on a sea stack
"It was heading this way, it must have outrun us" Astrid said
"How does an Outcast ship outrun our dragons?" Hiccup asked
"Those ships don't move too fast, how could we miss it?" Blake asked, his health improved with time and now he was able to accompany the others with no fear of his cold getting could get worse
Then, Fishlegs and Mealug slowly made appeared before landing between the twins and Snotlout "That's how" he said
"Whoo, we were really moving girl" Fishlegs said happily "What we missed?"
"It's not what you missed, it's what we all missed" Snotlout said
"Snotlout" Hiccup said in a warning tone
"What? I'm just calling it like I see it" Snotlout defended himself "If we didn't have slow, and really really slow holding us back, I don't know. Maybe we'd have a chance to do what we're supposed to be doing!"
"Snotlout, that's harsh, even for you" Blake said
"Yeah, that's a bit harsh" Astrid agreed
"Guys, he does have a point" Fishlegs said a bit sad
"Fishlegs" Hiccup said softly
"No, it's not big deal, Hiccup. You guys keep looking, Meatlug and I will circle back and patrol the cliffs, shore up the rear" Fishlegs said making Hiccup and Astrid look at each other before looking back at him
"Okay, well. Use your dragon call if you spot anything" Hiccup said
"You know I will" Fishlegs said before the rest of the teens flew away
Moments later Fishlegs and Meatlug were back at Berk, they went to a spot with a lot of berry bushes and rocks looking at the sea
"You thinking what I'm thinking?" Fishlegs asked to Meatlug who only ate a rock "Yeah, that's right, there's plenty of stuff we do better than the others"
"Like hovering, and zig-zagging, and then there's… stationary flying, which is similar to hovering" Fishlegs said as he some berries
Meatlug noticed that Fishlegs was upset so she walked towards him and licked him
"Oh girl, you always know how to make me feel better" Fishlegs said before picking up a rock "And I know you to make you feel better too, have at them girl"
Fishlegs threw the rock and Meatluch chased after it and ate it, then she started to eat more rocks while Fishlegs started to ate more berries, they started to eat slowly but then they began to eat faster until they ate everything in sight
Moments later, they were walking towards the forge but they didn't look so good, Fishlegs had his hands around his stomach while Meatlug was walking plainly
"Gobber…" Fishlegs said when they arrived at the forge "Could you help Meatlug? She's not feeling well"
"What's the problem?" Gobber asked
"She ate a ton of rocks but she can't seem to fire any lava" Fishlegs explained before Meatlug looked like she was about to throw up but nothing happened
Then Gobber opened Meatlug's mouth before closing it a second later "Odin's dirty dipper" he said in disgust
"W-what's wrong?" Fishlegs asked
"Dragon breath" Gobber said as he walked to Meatlug's side and patter her stomach "Sound's like you two over did it, celebrating. Were you?"
"Not exactly" Fishlegs said almost throwing up
"Don't worry, old Gobber can fix her right up" Gobber said walking to his work bench and pulling a crate bellow it
Then he started to pull out some weapons than made Fishlegs nervous but he relaxed when Gobber pulled out a feather "There we go"
Then Gobber walked towards Meatlug and started to tickle her with the feather
"Oh some on, that's not going to-" Fishlegs got interrupted when Meatlug started to throw up lave like she never did before
That's to the big amount of lava, Gobber and Fishlegs were forced to stand up on an anvil
"Sorry about your shop" Fishlegs apologized "I've never seen her make this much lava before, or this color, it's weird"
Then Fishegs realized that Gobber still had the feather "Okay, tickle at will" Fishlegs said gesturing at himself
"Ugh, keep your tunic on, boy. I only do dragons" Gobber said giving Fishlegs the feather
That evening Fishlegs was giving Meatlug a scrub down until he saw how the rest of the teens return
"Did you find the Outcast ship?" Fishlegs asked when his friends landed
"No, we didn't" Blake said stopping Snotlout who was about to speak
Then Gobber showed holding a sword "Fishlegs, do you know what this is?" he asked
"Don't tell me, don't tell me" Tuffnut said
"Uh… a sword" Ruffnut said making her brother punch her
"Not just any sword" Gobber said as the twins fought with each other "Feel it"
Gobber tossed the sword to Fishlegs who was going to grab it but Astrid grabbed it first "I made it out of that strange lava than Meatlug left in my shop" Gobber explained
"This was made from Gronckle lava?" Hiccup asked as Astrid swung the sword around
"I prefer to call it 'Gronckle Iron' I got tired of waiting of it to cool" Gobber explained
"So you just took some of the lava and created a sword with it?" Blake asked in disbelief
"Yeah" Gobber said
"It's pretty, but too light, would never hold on in battle" Astrid said tossing the sword back to Gobber
"Exactly what I thought, until I did this" Gobber said before grabbing Snotlout and placing him in front him, then Gobber swung the Gronckle iron sword slicing Snotlout's sword in half leaving all the teens amazed
"Is there any left, I've been wanting a new dagger" Astrid said
"New helmets!" the twins said before banging their heads into each other
"Ours are pretty banged… form… banging… them" Tuffnut said before ha and Ruffnut collapsed on the ground
"Hiccup, this would go nice on that shield than you made" Gobber said
"Exactly what I was thinking, it could make it stronger and lighter" Hiccup said
"This also gives me an idea" Blake said walking towards them "Remember how I said I wanted to make a weapon for my own?"
Hiccup and Gobber only nodded as an answer
"I think I've finally decided on what weapon could I do" Blake said
"Excuse me, why don't you start by making me a new sword?" Snotlout asked showing his broken sword
"Why don't you start by getting in line?" Gobber asked pointing at the forge where a lot of Vikings were making line "The whole village has heard about Meatlug's Gronckle iron and they all want a piece of the action"
The next day Fishlegs, Gobber started to make weapons out of Meatlug's Gronckle Iron, they even made a new helmet for a Viking girl
Hiccup rebuild his shield with the Gronckle Iron while Blake made his very own weapon
"This Gronckle Iron is going to do wonders for my shield" Hiccup said showing his new and improved shield
"Yeah, how great is this stuff" Fishlegs said giving a Viking a new sword
"Pretty great" Blake said
"Were you able to make your weapon?" Fishlegs asked curiously
"Yeah, hang on a second" Blake said before walking away, he returned a few seconds later holding his new weapon, it was a spear fully made of Gronckle Iron
"I thought that you would make a sword" Fishlegs said
"It was my top choice but I decided to make a spear for a reason" Blake explained
"Which is?" Hiccup asked confused
"You'll see" Blake said before walking outside of the forge where Thunder was waiting for him "Thunder, lightning blast"
Blake threw his spear and Thunder shot a lightning blast at it, the electricity went all over the spear and once it hit the ground, it created a small electrical explosion
It wasn't powerful enough to damage structures but it was powerful enough to leave someone unconscious or give them a big shock
"It works!" Blake cheered before walking to get his spear back "What do you think?"
"It's really impressive" Hiccup said
"I know, right?" Blake asked before looking at Fishegs "What kind of rocks you gave Meatlug to create this?"
"Well, I can't tell you" Fishlegs said
"Why?" Blake asked confused
"Because… it's a trade secret" Fishlegs said nervously but Blake didn't look convinced
Luckily for Fishlegs, Astrid and Stormfly arrived "Hiccup, the sentries said they saw another boat, we have to go now" Astrid said making Hiccup and Blake got on their dragons' back but then they noticed that Fishlegs and Meatlug were still on their places
"You coming, Fishlegs?" Hiccup asked
I would love to, Hiccup. But as you can see Meatlug and I are pretty busy" Fishlegs said gesturing at the line of Vikings outside
Hiccup only nodded before flying off with Astrid and Blake
"We're getting low on Gronckle Iron, Fishlegs" Gobber said giving said boy the feather
"Okay, girl. Let's make some magic" Fishelgs said before starting to tickle Meatlug who only spat to metal balls
"What am I supposed to do with that, Fishlegs? Make someone a fetching pair of indestructible earrings?" Gobber asked making a Viking raise his hand
"Not going to happen, Gunnar" Gobber said without even bothering to turn around but then he did to see than the Vikings were starting to get impatient
"Alright, boy. I think it's time you let me in on your, trade secret" Gobber said
Moments later, Fishlegs took Gobber where he and Meatlug were eating yesterday
"Okay, this is the spot" Fishlegs said
"Alright, let's load her up" Gobber said putting a wheelbarrow on the ground "Care to tell me which one of these is the wondrous rock?"
"With pleasure" Fishlegs said looking at the different types of rocks, he started to analyzed them but he also started to get nervous
"You don't know, do you?" Gobber asked making Fishlegs eat some berries from a near bush
"Of course I do" Fishlegs lied as he ate more berries "It's just, well, rocks can be very… y-you know"
"No, I don't. Tell me" Gobber said
"Meatlug was very emotional that day, she was eating everything in sight" Fishlegs said
"She was?" Gobber asked eating a berry
"Yes, it was a tough day for both of us" Fishlegs explained, Gobber only glared at Fishlegs in an awkward silence until Fishlegs gave in "Okay fine, I don't know what rock makes Gronckle Iron, I'm a failure, a liar, a fraud. Is that what you wanted to hear? Are you happy now?"
"Listen to me!" Gobber said "We'll just pick up as many different rocks as we can find, we'll try them one at a time and eventually we'll land on the winner"
"Promise?" Fishlegs asked
"I'm sure" Gobber said before they started to pick up different types of rocks
Meanwhile the teens where at the academy, they went there after failing to find the Outcast ship
"Well, that was a complete waste of time" Hiccup said
"We doubled back over the same area five times" Astrid said
"Really? That was the same place? It looked different" Tuffnut said confused
"That's because you were flying upside down, you mutton head" Snotlout said
"Oh yeah, fun though" Tuffnut said when he seemed to remember what happened
"The Outcasts are obviously planning something but I can't find out what it could be" Blake said frustrated "Maybe we need someone to keep track of out positioning"
"Yeah, we really need it" Hiccup said "Someone with low-speed hovering could have helped us over that sea stack"
"I know" Astrid said
"Oh, come on, you're not talking about him, are you?" Snotlout said
"Oh no, not him" Tuffnut said before talking to Ruffnut "Who are they talking about?"
"I have no idea, but he sounds important, so it definitely can't be you" Ruffnut answered
"We're talking about Fishlegs" Hiccup said
"We're a team and on a team, everybody has a role to play" Astrid said
"Astrid's right, we're all important, when one of us is missing it's just no the same" Hiccup said
"It's your fault, you made him quit" Snotlout said
Hiccup and Astrid only looked at each other not sure of what to say
Back at the forge, Gobber and Fishlegs returned from collecting rocks and placed them in front of Meatlug
"She's so excited, she doesn't know where to start" Fishlegs said
"May I suggest a sunstone appetizer?" Gobber asked before giving Meatlug said rock, she ate it and threw up some lava making the Vikings that were waiting cheer
Then Gobber began to bang it on an anvil and put it in a bucket of water but when it cooled, it became a piece of glass
"Worthless, let's try again" Gobber said tossing it away making it shatter, he started to look for a better rock to give Meatlug
"Oh, I like this one, shiny. Like Gronckle Iron" Gobber said analyzing a black shiny rock, then he gave it to Meatlug who happily ate it, nothing happened for a few seconds until Fishlegs spoke
"Is it getting hot in here?" Fishlegs asked
"Now than you mention it" Gobber said before realizing that Meatlug started to glow in a red color "She's going to burst! Tickle her before she blows us all to Valhalla!"
Gobber gave the feather to Fishlegs so he could tickle his dragon but he got burned a few times until Meatlug finally threw up the rock, however, this disappointed the other Vikings for not being Gronckle Iron
"Sorry everyone, false alarm, I'm open to suggestions" Fishlegs said
"This is outrageous!" a Viking said angrily
"Something must be done!" another Viking said just before the other teens arrived
"There he is" Astrid said pointing at Fishlegs "What are we going to do?"
"I could pound on him until he agrees to come back" Snotlout suggested
"Or we could just ask him" Hiccup said
"What's wrong with the pounding?" Tuffnut asked confused "I like pounding, I like a pound of cake, I like measuring my weight in pounds"
Then Hiccup tried to made his way through the crowd of Vikings but it didn't work then he started to jump and raised his arms "Fishlegs!" he yelled while doing so but the crowd followed his example and started to yell Fishlegs' name making him nervous
"You know, I once saw a Viking turn one of their own, tore the poor sot limb from limb, it started just like this" Gobber said making Fishlegs even more nervous
"It's just that Meatlug ate so many rocks, I can't figure it out" Fishlegs said but then he seemed to have an idea before looking back at the crowd "Hold on your tunics, folks. You want Gronckle Iron? You'll have Gronckle Iron"
"I like your enthusiasm in the face of dismemberment, but I hope for your sake that you're coming up with a plan" Gobber said as Fishlegs started to pick some rocks
"Oh, I am. It must have been a combination of rocks that made Gronckle Iron, that's the only explanation" Fishlegs explained before he and Gobber started to put some random rocks inside of Meatlug's mouth who happily ate them all
"Never seen a boulder she didn't like, eh?" Gobber said
Then Meatlug finished eating so everyone waited but nothing happened, however, Fishlegs seemed to notice something "Okay, something's happening" he said
Suddenly the metal shovel that Goober had flew out of his hand and attached to Meatlug
"Did you see that? Pulled it right out of my hand!" Gobber said stunned before more metal objects attached to Meatlug
"Her scales are attracting the metal!" Fishlegs realized "Stay calm, girl. Daddy's here"
Then Gobber realized that some weapons were shaking "Fishlegs!" he yelled
Fishlegs was able to react in time and took a shield to protect himself and Meatlug but the shield attached to Meatlug making her ran away forcing Fishlegs to chase after her
Moments later Fishlegs was chasing Meatlug around the plaza but some weapons that could badly injure her started to follow her, luckily Toothless was able to destroy them with some plasma blasts
"Nice shot, bud" Hiccup said
"Hiccup, you have to help Meatlug!" Fishlegs said
"What's wrong with her?" Hiccup asked
"I don't know!" Fishlegs said "She's attracting metal, she's really scared"
"Okay, Snotlout, Blake. We got to herd her away from town" Hiccup told his friends who were flying next to him
"On it!" Snotlout said
"Meatlug, come to daddy!" Fishlegs said
"You're all my, Meaty" Snotlout said flying towards Meatlug
"Stop! Cease!... please" Fishlegs said as Snotlout and Hookfang were flying next to Meatlug "Wait! Stop! Heel!" Fishlegs ordered
However, Hookfang thought that those commands were for him so he did exactly what Fishlegs said but it also made that Snotlout was threw off to a sack of food almost crushing a Terrible Terron in the process
Then Meatlug being followed by Hiccup and Blake passed next to Snotlout "I meant to do that, you know" Snotlout said before being attacked by the Terror
Minutes later Hiccup and Blake were chasing Meatlug around the forest but then, Meatlug got deeper into the forest so Hiccup and Blake flew above it
"Ah, this isn't working" Hiccup said before looking at Blake "Can Thunder stun her with a lightning blast or something?"
"With all of that metal around her it would probably be deadly, we need another plan" Blake said
"Then let's try getting ahead and cot her off" Hiccup said as he and Blake started to fly faster
"There she is!" Blake said pointing down
"This way!" Hiccup said
Then they arrived at the edge of a cliff where Meatlug finally landed
"Meatlug" Hiccup said as he and Blake landed behind said dragon making her turn around
"It's us, your old pals, Hiccup and Blake" Hiccup said getting off Toothless' back
"We can help you, but you must stay calm" Blake said getting of Thunder's back but Meatlug started to walk backwards
"No, no, no, no. Easy, easy, girl" Hiccup said trying to calm Meatlug before Fishlegs appeared
"Hiccup!" he said
"Not now Fishlegs" Hiccup said
"We're in the middle of something" Blake said
"No, no, no, you don't understand-" Fishlegs got interrupted by Hiccup "Not now Fishlegs!" he repeated
"It's metal, your-" Fishlegs warned but it was too late, Hiccup slipped to the ground and his metal leg got attached to Meatlug's belly "leg" Fishlegs ended
"Oh, gotcha" Hiccup said understanding what Fishlegs was trying to say but before he could do anything, Meatlug flew off with Hiccup hanging upside down her belly
"Hey, where you guys going?!" Fishlegs asked
"Absolutely no idea!" Hiccup yelled
"Aw, great. Just what we needed" Blake said annoyed before getting on Thunder's back "Fishlegs, get on Toothless' back, we're going to help Hiccup"
"What!" Fishlegs yelled "You want me to ride Toothless!"
"Yes, and do it quick before they get too far away!" Blake said
Fishlegs only nodded before getting on Toothless' back "Alright, Toothless. Let's just not break any speed records, okay?" Fishlegs asked "Just give me the 'night' without the 'fury'"
Fishlegs got rode Toothless but he was having trouble in figuring out how to open the tail fin
"This looks like it could present a-" Fishlegs said before somehow opening Toothless' tail fin "Oh no"
Then without warning Toothless flew off really fast followed by Blake and Thunder
"Too much fury! Too much fury!" Fishlegs yelled as they started to approach Meatlug "Daddy's coming, Meatlug. He may be barfing, but he's coming" Fishlegs was able to sit properly on Toothless' back making him stabilize his flight
"Fishlegs, how do we approach Meatlug without scaring her?" Blake asked
"Let's stay in her blind spot" Fishlegs said
"Got it!" Blake said
They started to chase Meatlug around by staying in her blind spot and following her to every direction she went, they continued like this until they were face to face with Hiccup
"Hey" Hiccup said
"Hey" Fishlegs replied
"How's it going?" Hiccup asked
"Better than expected" Fishlegs said before they started to fly in an awkward silence
"So… uh… are we going to solve this or are we going to fly in silence for the rest of the day?" Blake asked
"Oh right, but this might be a bad time but I really wanted to say sorry, Fishlegs. For leaving you behind the other day" Hiccup said
"Hiccup" Fishlegs said interrupting Hiccup
"I know, I know. You volunteered but still I shou-" Hiccup got interrupted a second time by Fishlegs "Hiccup, I'm trying to concentrate" he said
"Oh, right, sorry" Hiccup apologized "Wait!"
"Hiccup, I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure that Fishlegs was clear about trying to concentrate" Blake said
"No, look!" Hiccup said pointing behind Fishlegs and Blake, they looked behind them and saw the Outcast ship
"Dragon's over there!" an Outcast said
"I see them, ready all catapults!" Savage ordered "Archers, on my command!"
"They're getting ready to fire!" Fishlegs warned
"Fishlegs, you help Hiccup, I'll deal with the Outcasts" Blake said
"Wait!" Hiccup yelled stopping Blake and Thunder "I got an idea, dive" Hiccup ordered to Meatlug who did as she was told followed by Toothless and Thunder
"Ignore the big one, the heads of the Night Fury and the Skrill are the trophies we're taking home to Alvin!" Savage ordered as the dragons started to get closer "On my command, steady, steady, and-"
Savage got interrupted when Meatlug flew next to the boat attacting all the metal objects such like crossbows, weapons, etc.
"Excellent!" Hiccup laughed before realizing that all of the things that Meatlug attracted were going towards them "Oh, not so excellent"
"I got this" Fishlegs said before flying below Meatlug and tickle her making her throw up the rock that was probably attracting all the metal including Hiccup's leg
Fishlegs prepared himself to catch Hiccup but he missed so Hiccup started to fall towards the ocean but Blake and Thunder caught him
"Thanks" Hiccup said
Back at the Outcast ship, Savage was yelling furiously "Laugh now fools, but who lives by the dragon-"
Then Savage noticed that the weapons were now falling and were going to land on the ship "Oh great" Savage said before the weapons created a hole making the ship sink
Meanwhile Fishlegs was able to get on Meatlug while Blake and Thunder flew closely to Toothless so Hiccup could get on his dragon's back
"Much better" Fishlegs said hugging Meatlug who licked him "I missed you too"
With the problem solved, they all flew back to Berk
Later that day when Fishlegs returned to the forge he found Gobber cleaning his ear with his hook
"Well, isn't the concurring hero?" Gobber said when he saw Fishlegs
"Hey Gobber" Fishlegs said
"Ready to get back to some real work? I've got orders up to my skivvies" Gobber said poking an anvil with his hook
"Yeah, I don't think so, our responsibilities with the academy are going to keep us pretty busy" Fishlegs said making Gobber's expression change, Fishegs feared that Gobber went mad
"Understandable" Gobber said calming Fishlegs "Well, in that case, I have a little something for you"
Gobber turned around and got the first Gronckle Iron weapon that he made and handed it to Fishlegs
"But that's the first sword you made, for yourself" Fishlegs said
"It is but anyone who drives off an Outcast ship deserves her" Gobber said
"Thanks, but I didn't do it alone" Fishlegs said placing a hand on Meatlug's head
"I know, that's why I made Meatlug this fetching pair of earrings" Gobber said showing the earrings that he made with the last pieces of Gronkle Iron, he gave them to Meatlug who didn't hesitate to eat them
"Fishlegs, where you've been?" Hiccup asked as he approached on Toothless "We've been looking all over the island for you, we need you"
"You hear that girl, they need us" Fishlegs said before getting on Meatlug's back to reunite with the other teens completing the team
A/n: Hi I'm here with the next chapter, now I'll say something here in case that you haven't read the note I left in the end of the last chapter I wrote for A day in Thunder life, I'll try to post one chapter there and then I'll post one more chapter here, that way it'll be easier for me to update both stories
Another thing that I want to say it that the idea for Blake's spear was left in the reviews in my previous story byisaacstormblood1, I really liked the idea and even though the review said that it was an idea for Race to the Edge, I didn't find a better opportunity to give Blake his spear
So, isaacstormblood1 if you're reading this, I would really like to thank you for the idea :)
