Hello, everyone~! I've decided to do a double release this week since I'll be taking a very brief trip here and there. BUT I promise that I'll resume as soon as I've returned! So, without further ado, please enjoy and let me know what you think~!
"Hmmm," Run hums, flipping through the pages of a heavy book. "A cat's footsteps...breath of a fish...bird spit...reads more like a witch's potion than anything." It's only been a day or so of sailing since leaving behind Punk Hazard, so far it's been nothing but clear skys and calm waters. Which is nothing but good news as far as the crew is concerned, especially considering just how unpredictable the seas of the New World can be. Their next destination would be a place called Dressrosa, where they would go to destroy the factory churning out the SMILE fruit. Of course, that hasn't been first and foremost in Run's mind since leaving Punk Hazard...in fact, the only thing he's been focused on is figuring out his newly acquired Devil Fruit abilities. "This myth is...really something, Robin."
"Mm, it's certainly a page turner," Robin agrees, lifting her eyes from the book in her hand. "But don't get too focused on the details. It should hopefully give you a bit more understanding of your Devil Fruit." Run closes the book with a soft 'thump' and places it on her nightstand before falling back across her mattress, fingers threaded behind his head. Once more, he's made himself at home in the women's room. "Although, perhaps not."
"No, it's interesting. Apparently, this Fenrir could devour anything, even gods...and he never stopped growing, never stopped getting stronger." Run closes his eyes and sighs deeply. "Hmm...'devour', huh." His eyes suddenly snap open, and he sits up before turning his attention to the nightstand beside him. "Could it really be that simple...?" He reaches out towards the nightstand, carefully placing his hand on it's surface. "...now 'Devour'." Run's eyes immediately widen as what seems to be a deep crimson spectral set of teeth seems to erupt from around his arm, and bites into the top half of the nightstand. A brief, harsh 'crack!' sounds before the top half completely disappears at a jagged angle along with the teeth. "Holy shit!" Run shouts, scrambling across the bed and falling off the opposite side. "What the fu...?" He pops up on the opposite side of the bed in time to see Robin staring at the remains of her nightstand in shock.
"What...did you just do?"
"I...I would like to begin my apology by saying that I never intended to damage that book, or-"
"Figarland Run!"
"Oh-ho, shit! You used my surname, that ain't good. Look, I swear that I-" Robin crosses the room in his direction, and sits down beside him before grasping his arm. She carefully examines it before turning it over to look at his palm, fingers tracing every muscle. "Wh...What?"
"Are you alright?"
"Aah, I'm fine." He leans forward and presses a kiss to her forehead. "I'm really sorry about your book, and your nightstand. I didn't-"
"They can be replaced but you..." Robin sighs as she releases his hand. "...don't scare me like that again. You haven't yelled like that in a long time, I thought you might have gotten hurt by using your Devil Fruit." Again he leans forward and this time presses a kiss to her lips. "Mm, don't try to make it up to me now, lover boy. You-" Hearing sprinting footsteps, both heads turn towards the door of the room just as it's nearly battered down by Luffy, and Sanji. The two men are flanked by Nami, who quickly shoves past them.
"We heard shouting!" Nami begins, scanning the room quickly. "What...happened to the nightstand?! Run! What did you do?!" Run flashes her a rather sheepish grin while carefully scooting across the floor to put Robin between himself at her.
"Well, some breaking occurred the nightstand was involved but that's about all I know," Run tells her. "On an unrelated note, however, I've discovered a bit about how my Devil Fruit functions..."
A few more days of smooth sailing...and it seems the world has turned on it's head. The news of an alliance between The Straw Hat Pirates and The Heart Pirates has made the newspapers. Not just them but another alliance has made the paper; Eustass Kidd, Basil Hawkins and Scratchman Apoo have come together in the New World. But the bigger story is Doflamingo's resignation from the Shichibukai. What, exactly, he's playing at is a mystery to the world but it's big news regardless. So, to get to the bottom of the situation, Law decides to give the man a call via transponder snail with the whole of the crew gathered on the deck. The line rings for several moments before eventually being picked up.
"It's me," Doflamingo says in way of greeting. "I resigned from the Shichibukai."
"He picked up!" screams Chopper, ducking behind Run's leg as if the man can see him. Not waiting for him to continue or Law to begin, Luffy snatches the reciever out of Law's hands.
"Hello!" Luffy shouts. "I'm Monkey D. Luffy! I'm gonna be King of the Pirates! Oi, Mingo! Are you stupid Caesar's boss?!" Luffy turns and points an accusing finger at the man in question. "He gave Brownbeard and the children hell! We'll give you back Caesar as promised but if you do that again, I'm gonna beat the hell outta you!"
"Straw Hat Luffy. You went away for two years after your brother died. Where were you and what were you doing?"
"I shouldn't tell anyone about that!"
"I wanted to see you. I have something that you'll want very badly now."
"Something...I'll want?" Luffy stands in a confused silence for a few moments before suddenly grinning from ear to ear. "Oi, how delicious is the meat you're talking about?"
"Somehow I doubt that's what he's talking about, Luffy," Run calls, while approaching. "In fact, I could almost promise you that it's definitely not meat."
"But, it could be, Run! What if it's really delicious?!"
"Oh? Is that your first mate, I hear?" asks Doflamingo, causing the two to look at the receiver. "You know...I heard a rumor that someone fitting your description was seen with 'Red Hair' over these last two years. In fact, eye witness accounts state that Eustace Kid lost his arm to you during his attack on the Red Hair Pirates."
"Dahahah~! Man, ain't I the popular one," Run laughs. "Normally, I'd ask you to mind your business but...aah, you see, I WAS the one who cut off Kid's arm. Considering I had every intention of killing him he's lucky he got away with a missing arm and a few scars." Laughter echos through the connection and Run stares at the receiver in his hand for a moment. "Did I say something funny, pal?"
"Tell me, how did Red Hair end up with such a cold blooded brat like you?"
"I'm not the one who was keeping a bunch of children hostage to use as lab rats, Doflamingo. Oh, speaking of hostages! I imagine that you'll want to hear your loyal hound barking, if only to assure you that he's still among the living." Run turns his attention to Caesar, and holds the receiver out in his direction as the man crawls towards him. "Speak up, Caesar. Nice and clear now."
"Joker!" cries Caesar. "I'm so sorry! You resigned from the Shichibukai for me!" He reaches for the reciever and Run pulls it back quickly.
"Whoa-ho! Not so fast, pal. You heard your dog barking, right, Doflamingo?"
"Good, he sounds just fine," responds Doflamingo. Law reaches out and takes the reciever from Run.
"Eight hours from now," Law tells him. "At the beach on the southeast side of Green Bit, the solitary island north of Dressrosa. We will leave Caesar there at three in the afternoon. Go ahead and pick him up. Then, this will all be finished."
"That's too bad. I wish I could have a drink with-" Before he can finish, Luffy grabs the receiver and slams it back down on the transponder snail, cutting off the connection.
"You didn't tell him to come alone," Run tells Law. "I mean, I doubt that things are going to go off without a hitch but now he'll bring his whole crew."
"That's fine," Law says. "The handover is just a part of the plan. It's just to lure him in."
"You mean destroying a SMILE factory while it's unguarded is our goal?" Usopp ventures.
"Yes. But we don't know where it is."
"Don't worry," Franky tells them. "Factory's are pretty big. You really can't miss them. Once we land, we'll SUPER find it! I will destroy it with my beam!" With the plan laid out for them, Luffy heads for the kitchen calling out to Sanji that he's hungry. But Law seems to be upset with the fact that Luffy simply wants to wing it and figure out everything when they make port. While he's complaining, Sanji informs them that they're going to be having sandwiches for breakfast, and the rest of the crew heads that way. Sanji quickly lays out a breakfast spread for the crew which they all dig into with gusto. But despite the plan Kin'emon and Momonosuke are eager to get to Dressrosa, and not Green Bit.
When Law confirms that they're going to dock in Dressrosa, the two of them heave a sigh of relief and explain that they originally set sail for a place called Zou. Law is surprised that they're heading there because his next move is to link up with his crew after their business with Doflamingo is finished. Naturally, the two ask to accompany Law, even going so far as to beg...with him eventually conceding to allow them to join him on his journey. Luffy wants to join them to see Zou, and then head to Wano Country from there.
After they've finished their breakfast, Kin'emon tells the story of how he and Momo go separated from each other. According to his story, including himself, three other samurai were sailing for Zou when they were shipwrecked. Luckily enough, one of the three samurai, Kanjuro, Momo and himself drifted to Dressrosa where they were immediately set upon by Doflamingo. In the resulting dust-up, Momo boarded a ship headed for Punk Hazard by mistake, and the samurai sacrificed himself to allow Kin'emon to chase after Momo. So, he has to return to Dressrosa to spring the man before he can do anything else.
After breakfast, the crew whiles away the hours on their approach to Dressrosa. Law spends much of that time trying to convince Luffy that they need a plan when they arrive but for the most part it seems to just go in one ear and out the other. It isn't long before he eventually gives up, and the crew eventually spots the island in the distance. They can't see much more than a massive rocky cliff facing them but peeking every so slightly over the edge of the cliff face seems to be a sea of sunflowers. Luffy is absolutely chomping at the bit to reach the island, and when they finally reach the shore he goes bounding right off the Sunny without a second thought.
"We made it!" exclaims Luffy, thrusting his arms skyward. "Dressrosa!"
"You're too loud!" cries Usopp. "We're in enemy territory now!" Franky, Zoro, Sanji and Run are quick to join their Captain as they jump over board and land with ease.
"Ow! This week I'm...SUPER!" Franky shouts. "I'm gonna find that factory right away and ka-boom!" Chopper and Law climb down a ladder thrown over the railing of the Sunny to join the group on the shore.
"Town's the next stop, right?" Run asks Law.
"That's right," Law says. "Listen, from here on don't let your guard down. Not even for a second. If we fail to destroy the factory, our whole plan is gonna go up in smoke." Seemingly ignoring Law entirely, Luffy goes dashing over to a transformed Momo, and quickly leaps onto his back.
"Alright, Momo!" shouts Luffy. "To the town without stopping! Fly!"
"You're too heavy!" Momo cries, bucking and twisting until Luffy finally lands on the rocky shore beside him. "Get off! I can't fly and I'm not gonna enter the island! My father told me not to!"
"You can't fly?! What are you talking about?! I saw you flying!"
"I don't know what you're talking about! I said I can't!"
"I really saw him flying!" protests Luffy.
"But he doesn't have wings," Robin observes.
"See?" Momo questions. "I told you! I don't remember flying! E-Even if I did...I'll never do such a dreadful thing again! I'm not gonna fly in the sky!" Luffy crosses his arms as he observes Momo for several long moments before finally sighing.
"Are you scared of heights?" Luffy asks him...which appear to be fighting words, as a scuffle immediately breaks out between the two.
"Enough, Momonosuke!" demands Kin'emon. "He saved us!" The two eventually separate from one another, and Kin'emon steps forward. "I'm sorry, Luffy. Please forgive him. Even though he's a child, he's a proud warrior of the Wano Kingdom. Having said that, I can't believe you'd take an eight year old so seriously." Luffy and Momo taunt one another again, only for Momo to get yelled at by Kin'emon again...and go running off to Nami. Naturally this angers Sanji, Brook and Kin'emon who yell at the child for being a pervert.
"Oi, Kin'emon!" calls Franky. "Let's go to the town already! How should we pervert...I mean, how should we change our clothes for a disguise?"
"Oh! That's right!" The man produces a picture from the folds of his kimono. "Dress shirts for men! Let it all hang out for women! This is how people dress in Dressrosa! Let me change you all so you can all fit in!" Nami immediately responds by punching Kin'emon, Brook and Sanji in the head.
"Here," Law says, approaching Nami. "I want you to hold onto this." He tears a small slip of paper in half and gives one half of it to her.
"A Vivre card?" Nami asks.
"Yes. It'll point towards an island called Zou that I talked about earlier. If anything happens to us, go straight there." Law takes a few steps back and then pulls out a roll of paper that he spreads out on the ground before all of them. A crude map of what seems to be Dressrosa is scrawled across the paper. "This is a map that my crewmember drew. We're here at the west coast of Dressrosa. Doflamingo's palace is at the center of the island. The SMILE manufacturing factory must be somewhere on the island. We don't have much time so the factory destroying team will- where did Luffy-ya go?" The crew looks around finding not just Luffy but Sanji, Zoro, Franky and Kin'emon gone as well.
"Aah, really, I should have anticipated this," Run sighs. "Alright! I'll go find 'em. You guys make sure that the hand-off goes well, and we'll handle things on our end."
"Be careful, red hair-ya..."
The city that Run has found himself in is, in a word, amazing. Of all the islands that they've been to none of them seem like they can hold a candle to this place. The sights, the sounds, the smells all of it is a cut above the rest. What stands out the most though, is that the town they find themselves in seems to all have sentient toys wandering the streets...it seems that they're citizens of Dressrosa just as much as the normal humans are.
"Now, let's see," Run begins. "Knowing Luffy...he's made a break for the place with the most delicious smelling food." Run turns his head up slightly and inhales deeply before exhaling slowly. "Mmm...smells good. That's probably- aah, damn it. I really am turning into a damn hound dog. We really need to just get a Vivre Card made for Luffy. Huh?" In the middle of this crowded street a soft 'tap-tap-tap' reaches his ears, and he glances over his shoulder. Through the crowd, the red head immediately spots a giant of a man slowly moving down the street in his direction through the use of a cane...his badly scarred face and tapping of his cane immediately leads Run to realize the man is blind
The man moves down the road slowly, tapping his cane and taking several steps forward as he draws closer and closer to the red head. The man's cane swings out as he approaches, and bumps into the edge of his shoe, giving the man pause.
"Oh, excuse me," speaks the man. "I didn't mean to bump into you."
"Aah, it's no problem. I was in your path after all."
"Young man, I don't suppose you can help me, can you? I'm going to the Corrida Colosseum but I don't think I'll make it in time. Could you see your way to doing a favor for a old man and help me find it? I've been told that it's just down the street."
"Why not? I've got some time to spare. Would you feel comfortable holding onto my shoulder?" The man offers a smile and surprises Run by accurately reaching out and grasping his shoulder. "Alright, let's go."
"Thank you for helping an old man."
"Sure." The red head begins walking forward slowly. As they draw closer to this Colosseum, Run notices that the people around them are moving quickly towards the massive structure in the distance. All of them are talking excitedly about the matches that are going to take place. It seems that all of them are fired up about it. "Tell me, old timer, are Colosseum fights a big deal here?"
"Oh? Are you not from Dressrosa?"
"I'm just passin' through, I'm afraid."
"Haha~. It's fine, young man. I'm a visitor, too, so I can't say for sure. But it seems that this time the prize is rather rare."
"Really?"
"Yes. Apparently, it's something quite valuable...you might consider entering yourself." The man grips the red head's shoulder a bit tighter. "Hmm, you seem like you have a fighter's build. You never know, you could win whatever it is. You know what they say, if you don't gamble you can't win."
"Dahahah~. I suppose that's true. What's the point of living if you can't take a few risks?"
"Well said." Run comes to a stop as the entrance to the Colosseum comes into view. "Oh? Are we there?"
"Yeah. The entrance is dead ahead. You can't miss it. Unfortunately, I have to part ways with you here."
"Oh, that's perfectly fine." The man releases his shoulder and offers him a short bow. "Thank you very much for helping this old man. I won't forget your kindness." The man begins moving forward slowly once again, and Run watches him go until he disappears through the entrance. Any other time he might have gone inside to take a peek himself but being on a time crunch like makes it impossible. He heaves a sigh after a few moments and turns away from the Colosseum. His eyes sweep across the crowd, and come to a stop on a fast moving figure he recognizes instantly. Regardless of the jacket he's wearing, and the fake beard he's got glued to his face he'd recognize Franky's large figure anywhere.
"Hey! Franky!" Run shouts, causing the man to come to a sliding stop, and rapidly look around. "Over here!" Run pushes through the crowd in his direction quickly, arriving in front of not just him but Luffy. "Why are you two running around like chickens with their-"
"Run, we need to go to the Colosseum!" exclaims Luffy, interrupting him. "We need to win the grand prize!"
"A-Alright, calm down. Where's the fire?"
"It's Ace's Devil Fruit! Mingo has the Flare-Flare Fruit! It's the prize for taking first place!"
"Ace's Devil Fruit? How in the hell did Doflamingo get his hands on that?" Gunshots suddenly sound in the distance and all three turn to look quickly. Two human soldiers are chasing a one legged toy soldier as fast as they can. He dodges every one of their shots with ease before suddenly leaping skyward and lands on one of the balcony's sticking out from the Colosseum walls.
"Hah! You see this!" exclaims the toy soldier. "My foot is inside the Colosseum! You know what that means! No police and no Navy allowed within the walls of the Colosseum! Even if a criminal is within the walls, it's not within your jurisdiction! The only rule of law in here is the Donquixote family! If you pull that trigger, you'll become criminals! Now, go away!" With no other option, the men turn and walk away with sour looks on their faces.
"This island is so strange!" laughs Franky. "They even put a toy on the wanted list! He's so arrogant, too!" When the men have finally disappeared, the toy jumps down from the balcony to land in front of them.
"Oh, elderly people! Do you want me to carry your bag or something? Actually-" He turns to look at Run. "-how could you not assist the elderly?! Show some respect for your elders!"
"This toy," begins Run, pointing down at the small soldier. "Is pretty adorable! What's your name, little fella?"
"What a funny toy soldier!" Luffy laughs.
"We're closing entries from the public!" calls a woman in the distance. "I don't think anyone from the public want's to enter. They're all cowards!"
"Aah, looks that'll have to wait, I guess," Run says with a grin. "If we're gonna win that Devil Fruit, we've gotta get going."
"Alright!" bellows Luffy, grasping Run's wrist and thrusting their arms skyward. "Over here! We want to enter!" The lady looks at Luffy and then the red head and then back.
"Grandpa," begins the lady. "I'm currently accepting entries for the competition to the Corrida Colosseum."
"I know! We want to enter!"
"It's fine, right?" Run asks, flashing the most charming smile he can muster. "Won't you do me this favor, miss?" The woman's cheeks flush a red fit to match his hair and she places two forms on the desk in front of them. "Thank you very much." The two of them pick up the pen's on the desk, and Run ducks his head slightly. "Luffy...remember not to sign your real name." He nods his head firmly in response, and the two quickly fill out the entrance forms before being led away from the desk and past a barred off gate. They're given their name tags, and Run heaves a heavy sigh when he see's 'Lucy' emblazoned boldly across Luffy's tag. Although, his isn't much better, opting for 'Ran' as his name. Not clever by any stretch of the imagination but it'll do.
"It's only competitors beyond this point," the woman tells Franky, closing the gate in front of him. She turns away and begins walking towards the looming entrance. "Follow me, please."
"Red hair," Franky whispers. "I already told Luffy...but make sure you keep a low profile in there. It'll be easier for you than Luffy but it still won't go unnoticed if you start slinging that Haki of yours around." Run grins at the man over his shoulder.
"Why, Franky, whatever do you mean?" Run asks him.
"That's exactly what I'm talking about. I know that you two have to do this but just make sure not to draw too much attention." They follow after the woman down several long corridors through this massive structure. After several long minutes of walking, they eventually pass through a large set of double-doors. Numerous men wait inside, all of them silent and waiting for their change to enter the arena.
"This is the dressing room for competitors," the woman tells them. "You're free until we call you." While Luffy is amazed with all the people gathered the woman suddenly steps back, pressing herself against the red head. "I'll be cheering for you, Ran." A movement of her hips presses her behind against his groin. "Do your best." The woman walks off and Run exhales slowly.
"All I did was smile," Run says, scratching the stubble on his jaw. "Alright! Luffy, this goes to the grave with us. Not a single word to anyone, especially Robin." With no response forth-coming, Run looks around quickly, just in time to see a giant of a man being slammed down to the ground hard enough to shatter the stone floor. "Aah, boy." In just a few seconds, Luffy has already beaten down one of the other competitors, a man named Spartan, if the others are anything to go by...they're going to be drawing attention fighting but they don't need to do it right now. Run push's through the crowd with a grin on his face. "What, uh...what are you doing, Lucy?"
"What?" Luffy asks. "I was introducing myself." Another man pushes through the crowd quickly, clip-board in hand.
"Oi! Did you start that fight?!" demands the man. "The only fighting allowed is in the arena! You're disqualified! Get out!" A massive axe comes sailing out of the crowd and embeds itself into the stone between Luffy and the man with ease.
"Hold it right there!" demands a giant man. "The big man started it! If you're gonna throw someone out, it's gonna be him!"
"It's Sai and Boo from Kano Kingdom! Even Don Chinjao is here!" After the confirmation from the three men and several more from the crowd, the man with the clip-board orders Spartan removed while Luffy picks up the big axe and returns it to the trio of men.
"Thanks for that!" Luffy says.
"Aah, you don't have to thank me," responds Sai. "Really, don't mention it. I really don't need a 'thank you'." Sai suddenly lunges at Luffy, only to be caught by Boo before he can reach him. "You bastard, you take that 'thank you' back!"
"You don't need to get so worked up!" shouts Boo. "Please, excuse my brother! He's easily excitable!" This place seems to be a who's who of fighters, even if Luffy and Run have never heard of them. There's the three from earlier, the Funk Brothers, Dagama, Elizabello, Suleiman the beheader, Abdullah and Jeet, 'The Surmounter' Orlumbus, a blast from the past, Bellamy the Hyena, apparently some 'Pirate Noble' Cavendish, and some rookie pirate Bartolomeo. Eventually, they wander off towards what seems to be an armory filled with weapons and armor of all kinds. Luffy is beside himself with all the 'cool' stuff in the room but his attention is rapidly drawn to the massive statue at the end of the room.
"So cool~!" gushes Luffy. "Can I have it? I want that statue!" When he's told 'no' by one of the attendants, he instead goes dashing around the room rapidly collecting different armors and swords. "I want to use this, and this, and this, and this!"
"Well, don't clean 'em out, Luf- Lucy," Run tells him, digging through things as well. Eventually he pulls out a long black cloth...a scarf maybe? Regardless, it'll serve a purpose as he carefully wraps it around his neck and pulls it up to cover the lower half of his face. "Alright, now we're gettin' somewhere." Confident that he's secured his disguise as best as he can he finally turns to face Luffy. "Aah, did you- wow."
"What do you think?" Luffy is dressed from head to toe in thick armor, complete with shield and giant sword. "Looks good, huh?"
"Dahaha~! Looks good!"
"That's no good," calls a gentle voice from behind Run. He glances over his shoulder at a blond man standing there is rather flamboyant clothing. "There's a weight limit for gear." The man crosses the room and takes a seat on one of the benches. "Well, whatever you do, there is no chance for you. I will win the Flare-Flare Fruit. Yes, that beautiful power belongs only to me. My name is Cavendish. I didn't have to tell you my name because everyone knows who I am."
"Well, I guess it's nice to meet you."
"Perfect as this rose, that's what I am." Run's words seem to have gone in one ear and out the other. "I've been blessed with everything all my life. Because I've made it this far without eating a Devil Fruit or really even trying." Luffy approaches a scale across the room and steps on it, only for the man beside it to tell him he's too heavy. "I told you! Come here!"
"I look so awesome this way!" complains Luffy. "That must be why everyone is half naked."
"It's the sight of blood. That's what everyone is after. The gladiators are just part of the show for them. People show their true colors at the Colosseum. No one wants to see a prolonged match between heavily armored competitors. For them, this is all just one big show." Luffy quickly sheds the majority of his armor, leaving himself wearing only the helmet and cape.
"Maybe I should take the cape off, too."
"I watched you take the big guy down earlier. Who are you?"
"I'm Luffy! I'm gonna be King of the-" Run quickly clamps a hand over his mouth, the rest of his words coming out as nothing but a few muffled mumbles.
"A-Aah, excuse my friend here," Run says, staring at Cavendish with a sheepish grin on his face. "You know how it goes. You get older, and sometimes the mind starts to go. His name is Lucy, not Luffy." After a long silence the Cavendish releases a sigh. The rest of the room seems to relax, with wild tales about Luffy's description flying between the competitors.
"Oh, Lucy," says Cavendish. "If you were really Straw-Hat Luffy...I would have killed you here and now." Run releases his hold on Luffy's mouth. "I entered the New World three years ago. The whole world was talking about this beautiful rookie with a bounty over two-hundred millon. Girls went nuts over my wanted posters. Everyone was going crazy over me. But...a year later, Whitebeard's War of the Best drew their attention away! Straw-Hat Luffy came into the public spotlight along with Whitebeard! On top of that, the Worst Generation popped up and wreaked havoc! Reporters don't care about me anymore! That's why I'm gonna kill them! Each and every one!"
"Well, there's more to life than just fame. How you're remembered after the fact is more important than how you're looked at in the moment."
"Say whatever you like! To recapture everyone's hearts, I'm gonna kill as many newcomers as it takes! To do that, I'm gonna win the Flare-Flare Fruit today!" While the man continues his tangent, Luffy and Run leave him be and wander off to a different part of the Colosseum. It seems the tunnels go on forever, and eventually they find another massive statue of the gladiator named Kyros.
"Aww, I ended up looking like that guy," complains Luffy.
"Are you interested in that guy?" asks a voice from behind. Both turn to see a woman standing in rather revealing chain-mail armor.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Rebecca. A gladiator. Thank you for what you did earlier. I didn't like Spartan. This man was a legend. He was the strongest gladiator in the history of Corrida Colosseum, named Kyros. He won three-thousand out of three-thousand. In that time, he only ever suffered a single cut. He used to fight in this Colosseum until twenty years ago. But no one in this country knows anything about him. None of the elders or gladiators in this country have ever seen him. It's the strangest statue in Dressrosa. We don't know if Kyros actually existed or someone made up the story."
"Really?" asks Run, staring at the statue. "A man with a winning record like that doesn't just disappear."
"All we know is what's written on the plate here. Although no one knows about him, no one wants to remove it."
"It's strange," agrees Luffy. "But I like this statue! It's so manly!" They're surprised when several male gladiators approach and taunt the woman about being bullied by Spartan before quickly departing. It becomes clear from a quick look around the room that the woman isn't well liked by the others. "Today is the last day I'm going to fight. I'm going to win the Flare-Flare Fruit...and kill Doflamingo." Both Luffy and Run are taken aback by the woman's words. "What block are you two in?"
"C."
"Good. I hope one of you survives the first round." Rebecca turns away from them and disappears into the crowd of gladiators.
"Man, everyone is going nuts for that Devil Fruit," Run says, reaching up to rake a hand through his hair. "I get that it's a Logia but..." The red head's words trail off into a sigh. "C'mon! Let's see if we can find a place to catch the first fight!" They wander down several halls before eventually finding a large crowd of gladiators standing at one of the balcony's. With some difficulty, they push their way through the crowd of people gathered until they can see the ring in the center. The ring is covered with the unconscious bodies of gladiators with only a single large man standing with a bag covering his face. "Aah, looks like they've already crowned the winner."
"Aww, we missed the fight!"
"The winner is the masked man!" exclaims the announcer. "Mr. Store! Looks like we have a new hero in the Colosseum!" To their surprise, however, the man raises his hand and grasps the bag covering his face. "Ohh! Is he going to remove his mask?!" The man tears the paper bag off, and the whole Colosseum falls silent. "We all know him! The Captain of the first ship of Blackbeards group - Jesus Burgess!"
"Well, I'll be damned," Run mutters. "Jesus Burgess..."
