"So, why are we going to the library?"Nate asked his friend as they were walking somewhere in town.

"I told you already, I want to see if the library has a book or two that can help us learn to use moves,"Shizuko answered back.

"Oh, okay, but do you have to? Can't you just learn them on the fly like they do in anime?"Nate suggested to him.

"Um, no and I'll tell you why. It's highly unlikely that method would work for me or you. We aren't characters in an anime."

"But we are in an anime world."The Pikachu said, giving him a cheeky smile.

The Riolu groaned at his friend's response."You know, there might be a book there that could help you learn Volt Tackle."He proposed, knowing the Mouse Pokemon would want to learn the attack.

"Really?"Nate asked, looking interested. His friend nodded in response making him cheer and then go from a walk to a dash. Shizuko shook his head at this before rushing to catch up with him.

Soon, the two Pokemon reached their destination, the library. The library was a large building made out of red and white colored bricks with glass windows. On top of the entrance to the building, there were the words 'Emerald Town Library' spelled out in black letters. The two walked inside and looked at their new surroundings. The walls were black walls with gray flooring. There were a few small shelves filled with books and further into the room was a light gray circular deck with various items on it.

They made their way over to the deck and Shizuko rang the bell for the librarian. When the librarian didn't show up after a few moments, he began a conservation with his friend.

"So, Nate, what moves do you plan on learning?"

The Pikachu blinked in response before eagerly replying."A bunch of stuff! Thunder Punch, because it would be cool to punch people with lightning. Electro Ball, because it's an electric Aura Sphere. Quick Attack, so I could zoom zoom to places. Iron Tail, so I hit people with a tail made out of steel. And that's all I can think of right now."

"What are you gonna learn, Shizuko?"

Shizuko thought for a bit then gave him a response."Well, I would wanna learn Foresight so I could hit ghost types. Counter, so I can reflect back physical attacks. And Copycat, so I could copy attacks from others."He answered back.

Nate nodded but then noticed something."What about Aura Sphere?"

"What about Aura Sphere?"

"Wouldn't you wanna learn that too?"

"Yeah, when I evolve into a Lucario. Riolu can't use Aura Sphere."

"But couldn't that one from the anime use it?"Nate argued.

"That one was specifically trained to use Aura Sphere!"Shizuko argued back, annoyed that he had to keep reminding him of this.

"Yeah, but you don't know. Maybe they can learn it here."The Pikachu countered.

Shizuko opened his mouth to argue but then closed it. He had never considered that possibility. That Pokemon of this world could learn moves that they couldn't from the anime, manga, or games. He looked back at him and was about to tell him he had a point when he noticed his friend's expression, it was one of horror.

"What?"He asked. Nate pointed to something behind him and began to stutter something. He looked confused at this then turned around to see a large red arachnid Pokemon. They had purple eyes, a pair of white mandibles, and a white horn on their forehead. Around its abdomen are two black stripes and there are two black spots and a yellow spinneret on its rear. The spots and spinneret together form a pattern similar to a face. Finally, they had four yellow legs with two purple bands each; on their back are yellow structures similar to their legs with a single purple stripe each.

"Greetings!"The spider Pokemon greeted the two.

"GIANT SPIDER!"Nate yelled then ran out of the building, screaming.

Shizuko looked at where his friend disappeared to and sighed. He then turned to the Ariados and introduced himself."Hi, my name's Shizuko. Sorry about my friend. He's not the biggest fan of spider Pokemon."

"Oh, it's quite alright. This isn't the first time this has happened."She said, seemingly not offended by Pikachu's reaction. She then continued."My name is Charlotte. I heard the bell and thought you require my assistance with something?"

He realized this mon was the librarian and replied."Yes, I was wondering if you had any books that could help my friend and I learn a few moves,"

"Oh! I believe we have a few books on the subject. Follow me if you would kindly."Charlotte told him before turning around and walking away.

Shizuko smiled before walking after her while making a mental note to go find Nate after he was done here.

Wwwwwwwwww

Meanwhile, Nate was running through town wanting to get as far from the spider as possible. He briefly glanced back to see if the spider was following him, not noticing he was approaching someone. He then looked back and cried out in surprise as he bumped into someone, causing the two to fall to the ground.

"Hey! Watch where you're going!"A raspy voice shouted at the Pikachu. Nate looked in front of him to see a mustelid Pokemon. They had a long, slender body that had red-brown and cream-colored fur. They had triangular ears with dark brown interiors, a rounded snout, and brown eyes. Each of its paws had three toes. Lastly, they had five red spots on their body, two on their forehead vertically and three on their rear horizontally.

"Sorry, dude, my bad."He said as he stood up.

"Hmph, whatever,"They stood up and were about to walk away when they realized something."Did you just call me a dude?"

"Yeah, why?"He asked, not seeing the problem with that.

"I'm a girl!"

"You are?"He looked the badger over before he continued."No way!"

"What!"

"You don't look like a girl or sound like one and…"He trailed off, not noticing the angry expression the mon's face.

"And what?!"

"...you don't have any boobies."He finished,

"That's it! You're dead mouse!"She yelled before lunging at him. He yelped and was barely able to jump to avoid it. He then made a run for it."Get back here!"She shouted then got up and raced after him.

Wwwwwwwwww

Somewhere in the library, Shizuko was walking around carrying a stack of books he had gotten from the librarian. He didn't specify what type of moves he wanted to so she just gave him books on Fighting, Electric, and Normal. He understand why she gave him fighting and electric but was unsure on normal. He assumed because most Pokemon could learn normal type moves is why she gave him the book. He was currently looking for a place to sit so he could read.

He soon found a place to sit at a long brown rectangle table. He placed the books on the table and then sat down in one of the chairs. He considered which book he should look at first and eventually decided to open the Normal-type move book.

"I know the Normal-type moves Riolu can learn naturally are Endure, Foresight, Quick Attack, Copycat, and Screech. While the Normal-type moves Pikachu can learn naturally are Tail Whip, Growl, Play Nice, Quick Attack, Feint, Double Team, Slam, and Feint. Hmm, I think I'll look at Quick Attack because both of us can learn that move,"Shizuko thought then he flipped through several pages until he found the move.

"Quick Attack- A move that allows the user to briefly move at extremely fast speeds to attack their opponent or travel long distances. To use the move, the user must send Normal-type energy to the limbs that are performing movement. Warning! Using the move for long periods of time will lead to strained muscles."He finished reading with a content hum.

"Well, that was informative."He looked at the description of the move again to see if there was more info but there was none."Although, I think it left out some info like 'the amount of energy one needs to put into the move' or 'how many times one can use the move'."

"It also doesn't look like it tells you what pokemon can learn this move and who can't. Then again that isn't necessary most of the time."The Riolu thought.

"Learning this move doesn't seem hard but will take some time to master."He then thought about what move he should look at next. He considered looking at Endure, Foresight, Copycat, and Screech but decided not to, figuring he could look at them later."Maybe I should take a look at the fighting-type book?"He thought but then shook his head negatively. The only natural fighting-type moves Riolu knew were Counter, Force Palm, Reversal, and Final Gambit.

After some thought, he decided not to because he knew Force Palm already, two of the moves required someone to attack him, and Final Gambit he didn't feel like looking at the moment. He also decided to not look at the electric-type book because Riolu couldn't learn any electric-type moves.

"What else could I do while I'm here?"He thought, after realizing he was done looking at moves for now."I should look for some books to better learn about this world while I'm here."He decided then got up and went to find Charlotte to get her help.

Wwwwwwwwwww

Shizuko was reading one of the new books he had gotten Charlotte when he heard someone suddenly whisper to him."Pst, Shizuko!"He jumped a little at this before looking around for the voice."Down here."He looked down to see a familiar Pikachu.

"Nate, where have you been?"He questioned his friend.

"Hiding from the giant spider."Nate replied then asked him."Are you done here?"

"Not yet. I got a couple more books to read,"He answered, making the Pikachu groan at this.

"I'm afraid you'll have to do that another time,"A voice said from behind Shizuko. The two friends yelped in surprise at the sudden arrival then looked to see it was Charlotte."The library will be closing soon."

"Oh, well in that case. Can I get a library card so I check out these books?"He asked her while absentmindedly grabbing Nate by the tail so he wouldn't run away this time.

"Certainly! Follow me, please."She told him then turned around and began walking somewhere with Shizuko following her, dragging an unhappy Mouse Pokemon with him.

Sometime later, Shizuko and Nate exited the library, the Riolu holding a bag full of books. Both Pokemon were satisfied with their visit, Shizuko for what he learned and Nate was happy they were away from the spider. Shizuko looked up at the sky to see it was dusk. He turned to the Pikachu and told him.

"We should head back to the cafe,"

"And get something to eat right?"Nate asked in a hopeful tone."I'm starved."

Shizuko opened his mouth to make a remark about how he was always hungry when he was stopped by his stomach growling. He paused at this while Nate chuckled."Guess, I could eat something too."The two then began to make their way back to the cafe.

"So, what did you get at the library?"Nate asked him in a curious tone.

"I got us some books that will help us learn normal, fighting, and electric type moves, a book on types, a beginner's guide to aura, and some comics that I think you'll like."Shizuko answered back.

"Oh, what did you get me?!"Nate asked in an excited tone.

Shizuko dug into the bag and rummaged through it for a bit before pulling out a comic and held it out to him. Nate took it and gasped at what he saw.

"Spider-chu?! Is this their version of Marvel's Spiderman?!"He exclaimed in confusion and joy. Confused, because their version of spiderman was a Pikachu and joy, cause he could read comics while they here.

"Apparently so,"Shizuko said and smiled, happy to see his friend enjoyed what he got for him."Still can't believe he loves Spiderman but hates arachnids."

Wwwwwwwwwww

"Why am I wearing this?"Nate asked, currently wearing a red hat, black tie, and a yellow apron with a white paw print at the bottom.

"You and I have to wear this while we're working for Kitsune."Shizuko answered his question, also wearing the same outfit as his friend.

"And why are we working for her?"He questioned, not understanding why they need to work for the fox.

"We owe her for letting us stay in her attic."Nate didn't look convinced so he continued."She told me if we wanted to continue living in her attic we would have to work for her."He still didn't look convinced."She also said, we would no longer be able to eat Fuji's cooking."Shizuko finished with a deadpan expression.

The Pikachu's eyes widened at that before he dropped down to his knees."Nooooo!"He shouted dramatically causing the Riolu to roll his eyes at this."So, what are we supposed to do?"He asked, after he was done being dramatic.

"Our tasks are to take orders, bring customers their food or drinks, and clean the floors and tables."Shizuko explained to him and he groaned in response.

"And we start when?"

"In a about ten minutes,"Shizuko answered.

"Well then I'm gonna go read comics until then,"Nate said, then went and did exactly that.

Sometime later, the two were called by Amber over to the counter. They came over and awed at what was on the counter. On the counter were various items on two trays; Two plates that consisted of three fluffy pancakes that looked an Eevee, with berries and decorated food around the pancakes. Next to them was a glass of orange juice and iced tea. Finally, a plate that consisted of two Combee-shaped waffles, decorated with white flowers and purple berries. There was also a jar of honey next to it.

"Shizuko, I need you to take this to table three,"She gestured to the tray with the Eevee pancakes and drinks."And Nate, I need you to take this to table five."She finished, gesturing to the tray with the Combee waffles.

Shizuko nodded and picked up one of the trays while Nate did nothing and continued to stare at the food. Amber was confused on why the Pikachu was just staring at the food. Shizuko noticed this and elbowed him in the side making him wince in response and snapped out of it. Nate grabbed his tray after being told to then the two walked away to deliver their respective orders.

"Here's your order, sorry for the wait."Shizuko told the table's occupants once he made it to the table and set the food down on the table. The table's occupants were two serpentine reptilian Pokemon. One of them was long with sky-blue scales and a white underside. They had a rounded snout, oval purple eyes, and a small, white horn on their forehead. On each side of their head is a small, stylized wing, which is white and curves into a swirl at the base. Three blue, crystal orbs adorn their body: one on the neck and two on its tail. The other Pokemon looked like a child version of the other. The difference was that instead of a small, white horn on its head, it had a small bump and didn't have any crystal orbs on its body.

"Thank you,"The larger of the two serpentine Pokemon said, their voice mature and feminine.

"Your welcome, if you need anything my name is Shizuko."He told her as he set the food down on the table. She nodded in response before beginning to eat her food while her child on other hand had already started eating.

"Here you go, lady."Nate said when he made it to the table and gave them their food. The table's occupant was a tall, pink Pokemon. They had a vaguely star-shaped body, long pointed ears with brown tips. A curled lock of fur hangs over their forehead, much like their long, tightly curled tail. On their back were a pair of dark pink wings; each wing has three points. Their hands had three fingers each, and their feet had two clawed toes.

They frowned at him and responded."I'm a guy."They told him in a gruff masculine voice.

"You are? But you look so girly."He insisted, making the fairy-type Pokemon groan in annoyance."You sure, you aren't a girl?"

"Yes,"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes,"

"Are you really sure?"

"Yes!"

"Are you really really-"

"Yes! Now, can you leave me alone so I can eat my breakfast in peace!"He screamed at the Mouse Pokemon.

Nate opened his mouth to say something but was stopped from saying whatever by Shizuko covering his mouth."Of course, sir! Sorry for bothering you."Shizuko told the Pokemon before dragging his friend away from the table.

"Nathan, how many have I told you to stop asking a guy who looks like a girl if they are a girl?"Shizuko asked his friend in a hushed tone.

"More times than I bother to remember."Nate replied, smiling cheekily.

Shizuko facepalmed at his response then said."If another person that looks like a girl shows don't ask them if they're a girl, okay? We don't wanna upset customers."

"I'll try,"Nate answered him.

Shizuko frowned at this but then sighed."Good enough."He said before the two continued their shift.

Wwwwwwwwwww

A few hours later, Shizuko and Nate were cleaning the floors. It was almost closing time and both Pokemon were happy about that. Shizuko, because he could catch up on some reading and Nate because he could continue reading his comics. The Riolu's ears twitched at hearing the front door to the cafe being opened, so he momentarily stopped working to tell the person they were about to close for the day.

"Sorry, we'll be closing shortly. You will have to come tomor-Silk!"Shizuko said, a little surprised to see the Bug/Grass-type Pokemon here so late.

"Hello, Shizuko,"She greeted him, giving him a friendly smile."Is Kitsune back from her patrol yet?"

He shook his head negatively in response."No, not yet."His answer caused her to frown briefly.

"Oh, then can you tell her I want to speak to her? It's about something important."She told him and he nodded in response. She then left the cafe immediately much to the Riolu's confusion.

"Why did she seem so sad?"Shizuko thought, sensing great sadness from the grass/bug type."I wonder what she wanted with Kitsune?"

"Probably something to do with clothes."Nate suggested, having stopped working to listen to short conversation.

"Maybe…"Shizuko agreed, not seeing what else it could possibly be, before the two continued where they left off.

Sometime later, Kitsune showed up at the cafe to check up on them and close up for the night. She chatted with them for a bit and was about to leave but Shizuko stopped her.

"Hold on, Silk came by earlier. She wanted to talk to you about something."

"Oh, did she now. What did she want to talk about?"Kitsune asked.

"She didn't say, but she said it was important."

"Can you tell us?!"Nate asked, wanting to know.

"Nate, it isn't our business,"Shizuko argued, but inwardly wanted to know as well.

"No, no it's fine. I can tell you two. I should also tell you both something else while I'm at it,"The two friends looked at her expectedly. She took a moment to think of what to say."You both remember the Husks right?"They both nodded."In addition to attacking any mon on sight, they also for some reason kidnap children,"They looked shocked to hear this."We don't know why they are doing this or if those who are taken are alright. All we know is that they're taking kids back to the dungeon to do who knows what to them."

There was silence for a bit before Nate asked."So, how does this relate back to Silk?"

"It relates to her because one of the children that have been taken is Silk's daughter, Spunna."She responded, causing their eyes to widen in surprise.

"So, that's why she was so sad."Shizuko thought in realization.

"And?"Nate urged her to continue.

"And she wants me to go into the dungeon to rescue her kid along with the others."She said, much to Nate's confusion and Shizuko's intrigue.

"Why would Silk want Kitsune specifically to rescue her child and the others?"Shizuko thought, wondering the reason.

"Why would she want you to do that?"Nate asked in a curious tone.

"Because she knows I used to be an explorer that specialized in a few areas. One of which is rescuing mon from dungeons."She answered.

"Explorers exist here?!"Shizuko thought in surprise.

"You were an explorer!"Nate shouted loudly, making Shizuko and Kitsune wince. She nodded in response."Awesome! What rank were you? What places did you go to? Did you fight any outlaws? Did you meet any legendaries? Did you-"Whatever he says next gets muffled due to a certain Riolu covering his mouth with a paw.

"Thank you,"She told him and he nodded in response.

"So…"

"So…what?"

"Are you going to rescue them?"Shizuko questioned her. He expected to say yes but to his shock, she shook her head negatively."Why not?! You were an explorer!"

"Yes, I was an explorer but not anymore,"The Riolu frowned at her answer."Besides, an exploratory team was already called to deal with the dungeon."

Shizuko felt a little better after hearing that."And how long ago was that?"

"Two weeks ago,"

"And it's been?"He asked in a hopeful tone.

Kitsune hesitated to answer which worried him."...Two weeks."Shizuko and Nate's eyes widened at her answer.

"Two weeks! How long does it normally take for an exploratory team to arrive?"He questioned her.

"Three days? A week? It depends on how far the team is."Shizuko frowned at her response, he could see the reasoning behind this but didn't like it."Anyway, we can talk more about this later if you want but for now drop it."She told them in a tone that meant this conservation was over.

Shizuko opened his mouth to argue but then closed it and gritted his teeth in frustration. She then told them goodnight before leaving the two alone in the cafe.

Wwwwwwwwwww

In their shared room of Kitsune Cauldron, Shizuko lie awake in bed staring at the ceiling in thought. He couldn't sleep after their conservation with Kitsune. He was worried about the kids taken by the Husks. He knew an exploratory team was coming to save them but he wished they would arrive sooner. He was broken from his thoughts by a nearby voice asking him.

"Can't sleep, Shizuko?"

Shizuko didn't need to look to see who it was."No, can you, Nate?"

"Nope. I can't stop thinking about what Kitsune said."Nate said.

"Me either. I'm worried about those that were taken by the Husks,"His friend comments on his dislike of the name 'Husks' but he ignores this."I wish those explorers would get here sooner to save them or Kitsune to change her mind and save them."He said in an sad tone.

"Well…"

"Well…what?"

"Well…what if we go save them?"Nate suggested to him.

"We go save them?!"Shizuko exclaimed in shock.

"Yeah. We go in the mystery dungeon, rescue the kids then leave like in the games."

Shizuko sat up and shot a glare at his friend."We're not in a videogame, Nate! We have no idea what's inside a mystery dungeon!"He said, annoyed that his friend thought this was a game.

"You're right but what choice do we have besides waiting for help to arrive?"Nate argued back.

Shizuko looked away from his friend, he had a point. They could either wait for help to arrive or go into the dungeon and rescue the captives themselves. He desperately wanted to go with the latter option because he didn't want to wait for the team when it's already been two weeks since they were called. However, he had a feeling diving into a mystery dungeon was highly dangerous. From what they experienced so far with the Husks, they were dangerous and they couldn't do anything when they encountered them. If they went into the dungeon they would find more of them.

After a considerable amount of thought, Shizuko had made his decision."Let's do it."

"Huh? Do what?"

"Let's go save them."

"Save who?"

"The kids!"Shizuko exclaimed at him.

"Oh!...Wait really? You wanna go save them?"The Riolu nodded in response."Alright! Let's go be explorers!"Nate said before hopping off the bed and dashing downstairs.

However, moments later he came back up to the attic and asked sheepishly."How do we leave the cafe? The door's locked and I need a key."

"Oh, that's easy. We-"Shizuko gets cut off by Nate.

"We break down the front door!"

"No,"

"We break a window!"

"No,"

"We tunnel our way out using spoons!"

"No! We use the spare key Kitsune gave us."Shizuko told him before he could give another ludicrous idea.

"Oh…wait a second when she did give us a key?"Nate asked, confused.

"Yesterday,"

"Alright then. Wait, I just realized something. Where's the dungeon that those kids are being taken to?"

"I think I have an idea on where it is. Remember when were attacked by Husks in the forest?"He nodded in response."I think we should try there."Shizuko suggested.

"Sounds like a plan."Nate said.

Wwwwwwwwwww

After leaving the cafe, the two headed to the forest near the town to search for the mystery dungeon. However, after searching for it for a while they found neither the dungeon nor any Husks. They were going to consider another way to find the place when they froze at hearing a familiar voice.

"What are two doing out here at night?"

They both turned to the voice to see a certain fox Pokemon not too far away from them, leaning with her back against a tree with a stern expression.

Nate was the first of the two to respond."Uh, what are you doing out here at night?"

"I asked you two first. Now, answer me."She questioned in a serious tone.

They gulped at this and neither of them said anything for a bit until Shizuko gathered enough courage to give his answer."We're out here looking for the mystery dungeon so we can rescue those who were taken."

"I see. I told you two already, an exploratory team is already on the way. There's no need to do something rash."

"...Maybe you're right. What we are doing is rash. For all, we know the team will arrive tomorrow and we would have worried for nothing. But we don't. For all we know, they won't show for another week. I can't-no I won't sit back and wait for help to arrive knowing there are innocent lives held captive."

"And what if I stand in your way."She told him.

Shizuko was silent for a moment."If it means we're one step closer to saving those kids then yes, we will fight you."He replied, giving her a determined expression.

"Is there any way I can get you to change your mind?"He shook his head negatively in response. She turned to Nate."What about you?"He shook his head negatively as well."Very well. You boys leave me no other option."She said, giving a hefty sigh at what she had to do.

The two friends tensed as she reached into her sleeve and pulled out her wand. She pointed the tip of her flaming stick at them and got ready for whatever the fox had to throw at them. She then waved her wand and something appeared between the three of them in a flash of light. Shizuko and Nate blinked in confusion at seeing two small worn-out brown bags. Shizuko recognized these bags as treasure bags that explorers usually carried with them.

"What are these for?"Shizuko asked her, cautiously.

"For you both to take with you into the dungeon."She replied, much to their surprise.

"What?"

"I had a feeling after our little talk, you two were going to pull something like this so I prepared these for you."She noticed Shizuko look at her for an explanation so she continued."If I couldn't change your minds then I was going to make sure you both went into the dungeon prepared."She explained.

Shizuko was left speechless."I don't know what to say. Thank you, Kitsune."

"You can thank me by making me not regret my decision. Now, follow me. I'll show you two where the mystery dungeon is."She said then turned around and walked away, Shizuko and Nate grabbing the bags before following suit.

After a short bit of traveling, the three of them had reached their destination. The two friends had two different reactions to seeing the mystery dungeon. Shizuko was one of intrigue while Nate was one of amazement. The mystery dungeon was a blue portal that seemed to light the night.

"Is that the mystery dungeon?"Shizuko asked, wanting to be sure. She nodded in response."Got any advice for us?"

Kitsune looked to be in thought as she considered her words for a bit."Keep a watchful eye out and stay together."She told him.

He nodded, then turned to his friend."You ready for this, Nate?"He asked him and he nodded, a wide grin on his face. The Riolu shook his head at this but smiled.

The two Pokemon then approached the portal. Once they were near it, they could hear a sort of rumbling that sounded like a growl coming from the portal. Shizuko paused at this but didn't let this deter him. A second later, they entered the portal and disappeared into the unknown.
