It's been a couple of weeks now, every day he had only been training his physical body as well as his aura-based abilities. Increasing his endurance, improving his agility, and overall Aura capacity. He knew that he was told not to interfere, but as usual, he wasn't going to stop, especially not now.
"Still training, huh?" It was an old voice to Akari as he quickly shifted his attention while using his aura vision, it was Zossie from Ultramegaopolis.
"You should be more careful doing that"
"Why? Because you're so focused you didn't sense me?"
"I...Guess you're right...What's up?" He asked, wiping the sweat off his forehead with a deep breath.
"Oh it's nothing, I was just tinkering around a bit to improve the quality of my machine"
"Machine?"
"Well yeah! You can travel through your aura, however, our transportation only works by linking two strong points of Aura. Speaking of which, what is on your wrist? I've never seen it before!"
"Huh? Oh, I honestly forgot I was wearing it...I don't know if it works or not"
"What does it do?"
"It's supposed to react to nearby spikes of aura that aren't my own"
"Oh, is that so? well, I can tell it doesn't work, but I can fix it easily! Come with me!"
"Oh...Uh sure"
"And in exchange for fixing it, do you think you could give me a sample of your Aura?"
"My Aura?"
"Yeah! It's really powerful, especially for your age"
"What do you mean?"
"Didn't you know? There's a long history of humans like you, while Lunala and Solgaleo keep watch over the other worlds, they often select some to assist their respected worlds. Unfortunately, though there's a three-century-long split between their choices. But that's beside the point. I believe that your aura surpasses all of the previous Moones!"
"Oh...Uh, thanks?"
"Don't mention it!"
"Lillie, can I ask you to follow me downstairs?"
"Why's that, mother?"
"Your Aura Tracker. I need to have it updated..."
"Mother? Is something wrong?"
"Akari has run from home. And the Ranger Union believes they may risk their life stop the Pokémon Pinchers, as far as I'm aware...You're the only one who can sense him, and likely the only one who can stop him"
"W-what? But he's...And I'm...But!"
"Lillie! I know he's your friend, I know his ability can be considered that of a legendary Pokémon...But he'll listen to you, even if for a second. I want you to try and talk him out of it"
"I...I understand"
"Thank you...My Scientists began work on an Aura EMP. It should destabilize his Aura for a short time"
"I'll do what I can...For his sake"
"Thank you, Lillie"
"Alright...Done! With this, you can locate any spikes of aura as well as track a certain aura"
"Oh, thanks!" He smiled before inspecting the shiny new parts she seemed to just produce as if she had made that same watch hundreds of times before. It looked professionally made by the person who invented it.
"No problem, now for your part of the deal, just put some of your aura into here" She pulled out a small capsule. similar to a Pokéball. "Looks familiar right?"
"Yeah. Like a Pokéball!"
"Exactly, I saw you use yours so I figured that I could create my own. Instead of shrinking, it enlarges things. So your sample will last me a couple of years at most"
"Oh, that's great! Here this should be enough" He held the capsule in his hands with a light being emitted and transferred inside "Would this be enough?"
"Perfect! Now that just leaves one thing"
"Huh?"
"We need to talk. Clearly, you're upset"
"I...Huh?"
"Don't play dumb, I've been watching you for a couple of weeks, your training is filled with aggression"
"I...I guess I have been going through some things"
"Figures, you never were the type to talk about your problems"
"Huh? How would you know that"
"Well, when you become a big idol in my world, people tend to research you, so a ton of people collected newspapers and watched you from afar"
"So...You all were spying on me?"
"Please. You have a biography"
"They wrote a book about me!?"
"More than one"
"Jeez..."
"Anyway...You want to talk about it?"
"Not really"
"C'mon! I know it might be hard, but you can't just hide your problems"
"I know...But I can't allow myself to get comfortable until I do what I need to do"
"Which is?"
"I need stop the Pinchers from ever stealing Pokémon again!"
"Alright. Guess I'll just help you then"
"What? No, you can't do that!"
"Well, why not?"
"You don't have any way to protect yourself!"
"Do I not?" She turned around to her workbench before lifting it with her left hand alone.
"I-I How are you..."
"What? You didn't think we were exactly alike, did you? Here, I'll explain, our skin is like an exoskeleton, it defends our organs but it's also considered mechanical by your world. So we're sort of cyborgs in a way"
"Oh...I had no idea" He didn't act offended or fearful in any kind of way. It was more of the fact that the explanation left more questions than answers. In the end, he just nodded.
"Besides, if my strength fails me then my technology will be the next best thing,"
"Oh, uh no kidding...Although humans might not be prepared to see your species, it'd be best for you to hide your appearance"
"My appearance?"
"Well, humans might think you're some kind of expensive android or a Pokémon...Regardless, if the wrong person sees you, it could be bad"
"Oh? So your species follow a spirit of greed?"
"Uh...Well not all of them...Just a large part of us"
"I know, I know, our kind has its fair share of criminals. Though it's far less than that of humans."
"Right, let me see if I have anything" Akari opened a wormhole into his closet before pulling out a pair of cuffed jeans, a large white shirt with an Amphaross-themed emblem as the feature design. Then he closed it and reopened another wormhole to grab a large straw hat from his mother's closet to hide her face in the shade, but just in case he brought a pair of sunglasses too.
"Go ahead and put them on, It should hide your identity as well"
"Thanks! But aren't you also a pretty big deal?"
"Oh...Uh, I guess so" He opened yet another wormhole before pulling out a cloak from an old box of Halloween decorations. Akari put it over his shoulders before covering his face with the hood. However, his gleaming eyes shone through the shadows.
"Aren't your eyes going to give you away?"
"Oh yeah, forgot about that, I can just use my Aura Sight" He closed his eyes, adjusting his aura to see more vivid images.
"Aura sight? Never heard of it"
"Oh, yeah, It's an Earth Technique, it allows me to see using my Aura, although it's hard to see color"
"I see, so that means you can hide a lot easier. What do you plan on doing?"
"I'll be honest...I didn't get that far"
"So you isolated yourself...And didn't expect to go anywhere with it?"
"Alright! Do you want the truth!?"
"Yes, actually, I do"
"I...I left because my powers kept hurting people...While it wasn't intentional, my abilities caused for everything to go wrong...I never should have even gotten them" To that, Zossie only seemed to think for a second, look him up and down, and then began to burst out in laughter. All while Akari stood in dumbfoundedness.
"Sorry, sorry...But that means...You still don't understand"
"Huh? Understand what!?"
"You were destined to bear those powers, almost every single chosen child has ended up having fear from their abilities...But you're different, you're special"
"What are you talking about!?"
"You have a power that hasn't been seen before. You control your normal aura and otherworldly aura"
"Wait, you mean that isn't natural?"
"No, you would be the first. It's likely why you adapted so quickly"
"You're joking."
"Nope, It's the truth. Although my guess is you only recently learned about your other aura, so you've only relied on that. But let me ask you, have you ever been stripped of Ultra Aura, yet you could still use it?"
"Yes..."
"That was your body's aura, however that aura is more difficult to use"
"It is?"
"Think of it like this, when you use Ultra Aura, do you absorb it first?"
"Yeah?"
"With your natural aura, there's a limited amount since you're using your own life force, though many who possess the trait end up learning to only use a fraction, if it's a matter of importance, one can use all of their aura while putting their body at stake. It leaves a heavy toll, but if used wisely can be a strong trump card"
"I see...That explains a lot"
"Which, you're pretty lucky, most people would have spent years, even decades to use their Ultra Aura like you do. And all it took was but a few months"
"I...I guess so..."
"So stop doubting what you can do! If it'll make you feel better, we can go find Lunala to ask her why she picked you"
"Wait. You can do that!?"
"Uh, yeah? I would've guessed you had done it already. Then again you are still a kid"
"Hey! So are you!"
"Um, hate to break it to you. I'm well over thirty-three"
"You are? But you look so young..."
"Maybe for a human, yes, but my people usually live up to three hundred years old."
"Well...Okay then..."
"Anyways, where to, Moone!"
"Please, don't call me that"
"Well, I can't use your real name, might as well call you something. Or would you prefer Luna?"
"Moone it is!"
"Okay then. Where are we going?"
"Well, you said we should find Lunala. Where could we find them?"
"We could go ask Psycho, he's usually well acquainted with Ultra Beasts. Plus I think Necrozma would be happy to see you"
"You think so?"
"Yep! Necrozma still can't thank you enough for what you did"
"Oh...I didn't think anyone still thought about it. I figured you all just moved on"
"You saved our world, you saved Necrozma... How could we ignore that? Face it, you're a hero, act like it. For your age, I expected less humility than what you express... Anyway, we can go meet them now, c'mon!"
"Uh, oh right!" He quickly followed suit, trying not to be left behind or dragged there
"Psycho! Can we ask you and Necrozma a question?" Zossie asked, seemingly filled to the brim with stamina that even Akari wished he had.
"Most certainly, oh and Akari is with you also. Good to see you again"
"Likewise!"
"Besides the point! Do either of you know where to find Lunala?"
"Lunala? I believe so. However, most are unable to find them. They exist in a world without humans making it difficult to travel to. However, if Akari can link his mind with Lunala, you can ask her to find you at the Alter of the Moone"
"Wait, really? That's all I need to do?"
"Well yes. Why? Did you think it would be difficult?
"Well...In a sense. Yeah"
"Very well, it's quite simple, focus your mind on Lunala. Soon enough a link will be forged and you can speak with her."
"It's that easy!? I feel like I should have known that..."
"Was there a reason you wanted to speak with her?"
"I...Need to do something, and I feel like I need her help to do it"
"I see...I won't ask you for details. I trust that what you're doing is right.
Akari sat upon the center of the Alter of the Moone. Attempting to forge a link with Lunala. And at last, there was a response.
"Dearest Akari...Thank you, for we may now speak at last..."
"It's...It's nice to meet you. Can we meet, face to face?"
"Certainly. Though I have seen your experiences, I've wanted nothing more than to meet you" It was only a moment before the aura spiked with a large Pokémon appearing from a wormhole.
"Akari! I'm so glad to have met you! As a human, you fascinate me more than you realize"
"I...I do?"
"I've gifted my power to humans longer than this region held civilization. Even then, the humans I have selected never surprised me as you did. I hadn't expected you to learn your abilities so easily. Most take years or decades to learn"
"See! Told you so"
"Oh? That would make you Zossie, correct?" Lunala asked.
"Yes, it is. It's nice to meet you"
"Lunala...Why did you pick me to have your power?"
"I'm glad you asked...You see typically we choose children from the region. However after Solgaleo chose your friend, Lillie, I wasn't able to choose a child. In fact, I searched around the globe for the perfect aura. And then I saw your brilliance. It overpowered that of your mother and father. However I didn't choose you right then. I waited until I was certain you were the one. I believe you were seven when I chose you. When I saw that you would be relocating to this region, I had Tapu Koko leave you a gift. Your Syncronization Crystal"
"My...What?"
"Oh right, humans call it a Z-ring..."
"Oh...But was I really the best choice?"
"Even if you had no control over your body's aura. I would have selected you beyond others. Even against those who acted in kindness, your aura outshone their own. In a way. You were my favorite to observe"
"T-thank you...But I just have one last question..."
"What is it?"
"People keep telling me about some kind of "Rage Attack" Do you know what it is?"
"Yes. I do, it is a last resort given to the chosen children. We feared that they may be taken advantage of and placed a part of ourselves within you. When overcome with strong negative emotions such as anger or fear. Your body will enter a defensive mode to defend yourself. In your case, it happened when your friends were in danger. However it left you weakened since you had been using your body's personal Aura. It is strong, but it has its limits"
"I understand..."
"Akari!" A female voice appeared. "Surrender, please! I don't want to have to hurt you"
"W-what?" He asked, turning around while lowering his hood. It was Lillie, shaking as she held her fist pointed at him. "What are you talking about?"
"Akari...I know what you were planning to do. You were going to attack the Pokémon Pinchers on your own!"
"Of course I was! They've hurt too many people and Pokémon, I won't stand by any longer"
"Please..." She began to tear up at the eyes. "I don't want to have to do this...But you have to wait for the Ranger Union to defeat them, or I'll be forced to make you surrender!" She held her arm out with the wristband on the end.
"Lunala, should we intervene?"
"If I know Akari, we should not. We must observe, this is between him and Lillie." Lunala explained.
"Lillie...You know I have to"
"...Y-you're right...That's why I'm sorry" She pressed a button as a dart was shot out of the machine, striking him in his neck. Draining his Aura and leaving him unconscious.
"S-she killed him!?"
"Do not be afraid. He is only sleeping...Lillie. I apologize for Akari's recklessness...Whatever you plan to do with him, I will not intervene. I know Solgaleo places his trust in you"
"You're...Lunala...Thank you. It's because of your power that Akari has helped so many people...I just wish sometimes he'd stop to help himself."
"I know how you feel...He's special, however I cannot stop fearing the worst..."
"I see...Oh, who are you?" She asked, Zossie.
"Call me Zossie, nice to meet you! I was going to help Akari, but it looks like you have different plans."
"Yes...Sorry. I think I know what's happening to him"
"As do I. As he is now, he is acting based on the feeling of weakness... While he is doing good, his emotions hold him back"
"They do?"
"Yes. His largest setback is that he is afraid of himself. Or rather afraid to lose control over himself. He feels weak, despite the opposite being true"
"Thank Arceus you managed to catch him...I was afraid he might get away..."
"I just wish Akari would learn that he matters too"
"I apollogize for his negligence towards himself. I chose him because of the purity of his aura, but I fear my concerns have come true"
"Your concerns?" Lillie asked
"Yes" Lunala replied "I fear that he will be focused on others and may perish in response..."
"Yeah...I've noticed that too...He's strong, but he's gotten close..."
"Ow...My head...Wait, Lillie? What's going on?" He asked, attempted to stand just to find that he couldn't move his body. "What did you do to me?"
"Please, settle down. You were only paralyzed for the time being"
"Why would you do that!?"
"Because you were going to do something that would have gotten you killed!" Lillie blurted out "I can't lose you! ...Not again" She began to tear up.
"Lillie...I'm sorry, but I have to do this, Pokémon are hurt almost every day because of them...I won't let them!"
"Don't you think I know that!" She wiped her eyes, striking him across the cheek "But, you'll be no help to anyone if you get killed first!"
"Akari...Do you understand why the Guardians of Alola select humans?"
"Huh? isn't it so you can cover more ground?"
"No, we choose humans for a reason beyond that. Long ago the Earth was plagued by war. That destruction and death had attracted the Ultra Beasts. This conflict spread globally as all legendary Pokémon selected a human to fight along side them. Aside from Lillie, you've met a decendent of one."
"Hitasu..."
"Yes. The point is, what one Pokémon can do is limited. But when they may combine their heart with another, they may become stronger. The same applies to you"
"Spread to all other regions? I have to ask. Was there something that influenced you to choose humans?" Akari asked
"Huh? Why do you ask?" Zossie asked "Seems a little odd"
"So you have learned of the truth, very well. You were the cause, when I first saw you, I believed you were the one from our ancestors' legacy. However I hadn't wanted to place that burden onto you if I happened to be wrong"
"I see..."
"What!? But how could that be true?" asked Lillie as she tried to comprehend what Lunala was talking about, and why Akari seemed unaffected by the news.
"It was Celebi. When the attack began, we asked that Celebi travel to the future to find the course of action to take...It was then that they found you. A human child who weilded the gift of the moon. Unfortunately due to Celebi's wishes...I cannot tell you anything else... I'm sure you understand the importance of protecting the flow of time."
"Yeah. I get it"
"Akari...Let's stop the Pinchers...Together with the Ranger Union"
"...Alright..." He caved in, although concerned for Lillie's safety, ultimately glad he was not alone.
"By the way, I have to ask, did you have a feeling you caused Pokémon to select humans?"
"Actually, yeah. When I was in the Oblivia region, there was a legend that alongside Celebi, a boy had saved the island from the darkness with abilities that sounded like my own. Teleporting, aura blades, y'know?"
"And you thought it was you?"
"Well, they did say that they seemed to appear from the sky wearing the same uniform I have on"
"I keep forgetting that you're sharper than you lead others to believe"
"Of course I am! Why do you always doubt me!?"
"No offense, but you tend to have a short temper, and you do act before you think...A lot"
"Hey! That's not...True..." He began to think before realizing he was wrong. "Well, it's not always true!"
"Sure. Sure, whatever you say. But, Akari promise me..."
"Sure, what is it?"
"Promise me you won't endanger yourself like that again!"
"Huh? What's that all about?"
"Akari...You probably aren't aware, but Lillie was hurt the most when you sealed yourself in another world" Lusamine admitted, "It was a hard time for a lot of people, especially since everyone thought you died"
"You...You were? I didn't think anyone really cared that much"
"Yeah! I was worried about you! You were one of the first people I learned to trust and like, imagine if someone you cared about sacrificed theirselves in front of you!"
"Oh...I never really thought of it like that... Fine. I promise, from here on out, we fight together!"
