IMPORTANT NOTE: AS AN APOLOGY TO YOU GUYS FOR MAKING YOU WAIT THIS LONG AND BECAUSE I HAVEN´T WRITTEN THE FINAL PART TO THIS 3-PARTER YET, I´M DOING SOMETHING A LITTLE UNTRADITIONAL. SO, AFTER THIS EPISODE WILL FOLLOW THE DOUBLE EPISODE, THAT I ORIGINALLY PLANNED TO FOLLOW THESE ANYWAY, BEFORE I FINISH OFF THIS STORY WITH THE FINAL PART.
THINK OF IT AS MY WAY TO SHOW YOU, THAT IT´S DEFINITELY NOT BECAUSE I DON´T CARE ABOUT YOUR SUPPORT ANYMORE, BECAUSE THAT IS NOT THE CASE IN ANY WAY. IT´S SIMPLY BECAUSE I´VE BEEN FEELING BURNT OUT, THAT IT TAKES SO LONG WITH THE PRODUCTION OF NEW EPISODES, THAT ARE OF A HIGH ENOUGH QUALITY TO LIVE UP TO THE STANDARDS I´VE SET FOR MYSELF.
WHAT IF? - SEASON 6 EPISODE 7 - IT´S LIKE THAT (PART 2)
1. Int. Classroom. Day.
The Sophomores (including Eli and Jeremy) are getting their English reports back. Miss Oh is their teacher and neither Eli or Jeremy look like they´re looking forward to it.
Miss Oh:
Marisol, top notch work as always.
Marisol gets hers back and has gotten an A plus. She shows it to Eli, who looks glad for her.
Miss Oh:
Eli, not so much.
She hands Eli´s back to him and he looks annoyed at having gotten a C-minus.
Eli:
What was wrong with it?
Miss Oh:
It´s like the rest of your work, all over the place! Maybe Marisol could help you get your work better organized.
He doesn´t like it, but has to accept it. Jeremy is next to get his report back and looks confused, when he does.
Jeremy:
Why haven´t you graded it?
Miss Oh:
You know why. You chose a book on the banned list.
Marisol turns to Eli and whispers to him, as Jeremy tries to control his temper.
Marisol:
What´s the "Banned List"?
Eli:
Books that are deemed too harmful for public consumption. Like the Satanic bible, "The Anarchist´s Cook Book","Mein Kampf" and books like that.
Marisol:
You don´t think Jeremy is a Nazi, do you?
Eli shakes his head at her.
Jeremy:
Just because you don´t like my choice of books ...
Miss Oh:
You chose a book that glorifies a school shooting, Jeremy. I want a new report for you by the end of the week and I want you to go and see Ms. Santos after class is over.
Jeremy:
That´s bull! I´m outta here!
Jeremy had enough and atorms out, leaving Miss Oh and the rest of the class somewhat surprised by his actions. All of them except for Eli, that is, who´s the one guy, that understands him.
2. Int. Hallway. Day.
Eli and the rest of the class come out from their classroom and he looks around for Jeremy. Marisol is by his side.
Eli:
Hé´s probably long gone by now.
Marisol:
Hopefully off to see a shrink!
Eli:
Mare, we´ve talked about this ...
Marisol:
I know, but it isn´t wrong to call a spade a spade either! He´s off his rocker, even the blind can see it! I know that he´s your friend, but he clearly belongs in some kind of assisted living facility, where they can take proper care of him.
Eli:
You mean one with padded walls?
Marisol:
You said that, not me! Just promise me that you´ll be careful around him. Guys like him are like a time bomb, that can go off at any moment.
Eli:
I know. Which is why I want to defuse that bomb, before it has a chance to go that far.
Eli looks worried about Jeremy and Marisol looks equally worried about Eli.
OPENING CREDITS
3. Int. Hallway. Day.
Anya and Holly J are looking for Brittany.
Anya:
She said that she´d meet me after class. I don´t know what could have gotten in the way.
Holly J:
A guy perhaps?
Anya:
Not if it´s someone, I haven´t approved of!
Holly gives her the eye and Anya can see how that might have come off.
Anya:
That came out wrong! Of course, she can date who she wants to!
Holly J:
But only as long as you´re okay with it, is that it?
Anya:
She doesn´t know Degrassi like we do and all of the pitfalls, you can fall into, that will ruin your chance at popularity! I´m only trying to help her!
Holly J:
Like if she were to say, date someone who´s practically the opposite popuplar?
They see Britanny and it looks like she´s flirting with Mo, of all people! They´re clearly hitting it off really well, which isn´t to Anya´s liking. Fiona and Declan come up behind them.
Fiona:
I see that your new friend likes to shop in the "Nerd Section".
Declan:
Gee, I wonder how your new found friends in the Spirit Squad and on the football team will react to that, Anya!
They smiles at one another and head up the hallway. Anya clearly knows that she´s right and that she´ll have to do something about it.
Holly J:
Don´t listen to their ... logic! Okay, they´ll probably make fun of you, but so what? Look how happy she looks!
Anya:
High School is a dog eat dog world, Holly J and in order to make an omelet, you sometimes have to break a few eggs!
Anya goes to stop them, as Holly J wonders what she meant.
Holly J:
Do you have any other way outdated old sayings to explain this situation? Because I´m afraid, you´ve lost me!
She follows after Anya.
We cut to Brittany and Mo, who are in what you could call Very Light Flirting Mode".
Brittany:
You play in band? That´s so cool!
Mo:
It´s just something we do for fun for now.
Brittany:
Would you believe that you´re the first guy I´ve met, who´s in a band and wasn´t lying about it?
They smile at one another, but are interrupted by Anya.
Anya:
Brittany, can I talk to you for a sec?
Brittany:
Yeah, sure.
Mo:
I should be going anyway. It was nice to meet you, Brittany. Are you coming to the Dot after school?
Brittany:
Could be.
Mo:
Then it could be that I´ll see you there!
He walks away from them as Anya rolls her eyes at their awkward flirting, just as Holly J comes up behind her. Brittany clearly looks taken with him though.
Brittany:
What a cool guy!
Anya:
Mo? You can´t be serious!
Brittany:
Why not?
Anya:
Mo is a nerd, okay? It´s okay to laugh at them and sometimes ask for help with your homework from one of them, but you don´t actually date them!
Holly J:
Not unless you want a guy, who has a bright future ahead of him, your parents will love, will probably be loaded rich someday and will treat you like a gentleman should.
Anya looks a little annoyed at Holly J going against her wishes.
Brittany:
All we did was talk, okay? If you´ll excuse me, I need to use the girl´s room before class starts.
Brittany leaves them and Anya looks a little annoyed with Holly J.
Anya:
Why did you have to say that?
Holly J:
Becuase you were sounding like a mix between Regina George from "Mean Girls", Cordelia from "Buffy", half of the cast of "Pretty Little Liars" and one of the Heathers! You´re starting to lose it over this whole popularity thing, can´t you see that?
Anya:
All I´m doing is helping a sweet girl, who needs a helping hand to get settled here.
Holly J:
Anya, this isn´t you! You´re ...
She stops herself from saying anymore, but now Anya has become curious.
Anya:
I´m what? You can say it!
Holly J:
You´re turning into one of the girls you´ve always hated, The selfish, always putting their own needs first, backstabbing at every chance little bitches, who never gave a damn about you, until you put their uniform on. That you can think that you´re the right one to decide for her who she should date, when you´re only with your boyfriend because you´re physically attracted to him, is probably another good sign that you need to take a look in the mirror.
Anya gets angry and storms off. Holly J still looks glad at having told her the truth.
4. Int. Manny´s Office. Day.
Manny has Jeremy in the hot seat and she looks at him sternly with is English report on the table in front of her.
Manny:
Jeremy, I´m sure that I don´t need to tell you why "Rage" is just about the worst book, you could have chosen for your free Engllish Report. It´s not even allowed to be sold anymore, so how did you get a hold of a copy?
Jeremy:
From a guy on the internet. I don´t see what the big deal is. It´s just a book.
Manny:
One where the lead pratagnist goes on a rampage with a gun in his school and kills several people. What worries me even more is how you wrote in your report, that you feel like you can identify with him.
Jeremy:
It´s just something I wrote without thinking about it. I´ll write another report, this time one a book that Miss Oh will like. Can I go now? I´d really like to get back to class, before I miss any more lessons.
Manny:
Not until we´re done talking about this.
Jeremy´s temper suddenly begins to get the better of him and he stand up so quicly, that it sends his chair falling to the ground behind him.
Jeremy:
Look, I said that I don´t want to talk about it, so stop asking me these questions!
Manny starts to see how this could go wrong and gets off her seat, before backing up to the walll behind her.
Manny:
Jeremy, calm down. I won´t ask again.
Jeremy:
I´m not going to show up here with a gun and shoot you, I promise.
Manny:
We´ll have to call your parents in for a meeting.
Jeremy looks terrified at the prospect of it.
Jeremy:
No, they can´t know! My dad will go crazy! He´ll send me off to military school.
Manny:
There´s nothing I can do about it. It´s standard procedure in these cases.
Jeremy:
Standard procedure! Is it standard procedure for you to ruin my life?
He begins to move towards the door, to her relief.
Jeremy:
You don´t know him. He´ll do it.
Manny:
I´m sorry.
Jeremy:
It isn´t your fault that the whole sytem is broken.
He leaves her and she looks a little relieved.
5. Int. Hallway. Day.
Jay sees Jeremy come out from Manny´s office and walks over to him with a friendly smile on his face.
Jay:
I know that Manny is always good company, but if you keep going to see her this much, they´ll start talking about you two soon!
He gets a small smile out of Jeremy.
Jeremy:
If only that was my only problem, that they thought I was doing it with the super sexy guidance counsellor!
Jay:
You think so too, huh?
Jeremy:
Don´t you have a girlfriend?
Jay:
No one says that you can´t gather your appetite out on the town, as long as you eat at home! Trust me, it´s a rule that a lot of guys learn to embrace, especially when their wives start to get old and wrinkly!
Jeremy:
I can imagine!
Jay:
Seriously, man. What did she want to talk to you about?
Jeremy:
The usual BS.I tell you, some days, it´s like everyone has been put on this earth for the sole reason of making my life as miserable, as it can be.
Jay:
I´m sure, it can´t be that bad. Anyway, I hope that I´m not on that list.
Jeremy:
No, you´re alright and Eli is too. I guess Miss Santos is too, although she´s a bit too much like one of the teachers sometimes.
Jay:
I´m afraid that´s her job.
Jeremy:
It just feels like I´m completely alone, you know?
Jay:
Hey, my life wasn´t any picnic either. I grew up with a dad, who only saw me as a troublemaker, that would never amount to anything. Which considering my current situation, I know that it might appear like he was right, but I don´t plan on being a janitor here forever.
Jeremy looks at him teasingly.
Jeremy:
Only as long as Miss Santos works here, am I right?
Jay:
That´s besides the point! Although you admittedly are a little right in what you said, in that I wouldn´t still be here, if it wasn´t for her. What I meant to say was that what doesn´t kill you, makes you stronger.
Jeremy takes in his words and thinks out loud without thinking of it.
Jeremy:
Like say, if you had nothing left to lose.
His mind starts racing and Jay looks worried that Jeremy could be serious about doing something drastic.
6. Int. Manny´s Office. Day.
Manny is still trying to gather herself, when Jay comes in.
Jay:
Are you okay?
Manny:
Just a little shook up, I guess. That was the first time I´ve ever been scared in here.
Jay:
He didn´t hurt you , did he?
Manny:
No, but I got a small taste of his famous temper. I can´t say that it made me feel like having another one after that.
Jay:
I think that we need to talk about him with the principal.
Manny:
What did he say to you?
Jay:
He´s on the verge of cracking. You can see it and I can see it.
Manny:
There´s already going to be a meeting scheduled with his parents, most likely for tomorrow.
Jay:
Good, because the way he talked ... let´s just say that it wouldn´t surprise me, if that was the kind of talk that was going on in the Menendez home before those boys ...
He makes a slit of the throat movement with his finger.
7. Int. Classroom. Day.
Anya and her classmates are in the middle of a rather boring class and to make it worse, it´s also the last class of the day. She´s sitting next to Brittany, since she isn´t currently on speaking terms with Holly J.
Miss Kwan:
If we take X and divide it with Y, we get Z.
Anya turns to Brittany, who looks just as uninterested as Anya is.
Anya (whispering):
It´s only half an hour more. We can do it!
Brittany (whispering):
There has to be more entertaining funerals going on right now!
Anya (whispering):
Sorry about earlier. I just didn´t want you to get involved with him, before you knew all there was to know about him.
Brittany (whispering):
You´re already forgiven, so take it easy.
Anya (whispering):
There´s a lot of nice guys like Mo on the Degrassi meat market, that are better looking than him. There´s a party tonight we could go to, if you want me to introduce you to some of them.
Brittany (whispering):
I´ll go with you, but only so that we can hang out together. I told, I don´t need you to fix me up with anyone.
Anya looks pleased.
8. Int. Detention Room. Day.
Eli and Jeremy are sitting next to one another in detention, but Jeremy mostly ignores Eli and concentrates on his school work. Eli tries not to think too much about it and focus on his own work.
9. Ext. Degrassi. Day.
Jeremy comes out with Eli following shortly after.
Eli:
Hey, wait up!
Jeremy only slows down a little, so Eli can catch up with him.
Eli:
Wanna hang out tonight? You could come over for a visit, see how the other half lives.
Jeremy:
I´ll take a rain check. I wouldn´t make for the best company anyway, with how this day has gone.
Eli:
You can talk to me about it, if you want.
Jeremy stops walking and looks Eli in the eyes.
Jeremy:
Eli, you´re nice to care, you really are. But you´re like Jay or miss Santos or any of others, who have tried to help. But you´re not me, you don´t understand what it´s like to be me, so stop pretending like you do!
Eli looks a little taken back by his reaction.
Eli:
Dude, all I did was ask if you wanted to hang out!
Jeremy:
Because you feel sorry for me, is that it?
Eli:
No! It´s not like that!
Jeremy:
You can find yourself some other project to make yourself feel better over your dead girlfriend, because I refuse to be it anymore!
Jeremy storms off, leaving Eli reeling over what happened.
10. Int. Car. Day.
Eli´s dad Bull Frog is driving himself and Eli home.
Eli:
Sorry that you had to wait for me to finish with my detention.
Bull Frog:
As long as you don´t make a habit of it, it´s no big deal.
Eli:
I can´t guarantee anything, but I´ll try.
Bull Frog:
It´s not like me and your mom didn´t do our share of time in detention too, when we were your age, but it´s not the greatest thing to make a family tradition out of, don´t you agree?
Eli smiles a little to himself.
Eli:
No, I guess not. I keep thinking about that kid Jeremy, I told you about.
Bull Frog:
What about him?
Eli:
Twice today I´ve seen him lose his temper over what was practically nothing. First this morning in English class and then five minutes ago, when I tried to talk to him after detention.
Bull Frog:
That doesn´t sound good.
Eli:
It isn´t. I´ve had hundreds, if not thousands of incidents like that since Julia died, where I wanted to scream at anyone who tried to talk to me. I´ve still managed to stop myself, most of the time anyway. That he can´t stop himself is a sign, that he´s coming towards the end of his rope.
Bull Frog:
You know him better than I do, but it sounds to me like you need to talk to the principal or maybe a teacher at your school about this.
Eli:
He told me a lot of things in confidence. Won´t it make him hate me to know that I went off and spread it to someone else?
Bull Frog:
It´s better that he´s still alive, any day of the week! I can tell you this too, if you think living with one dead friend on your consscience, living with two won´t make things any easier. It´s most likely going to be the opposite.
Eli takes in what his dad told him and wonders what to do.
11. Int. House. Evening.
A nice little party is going on at the house, but it´s clearly only one for the cool people. Anya is watching Brittany talking to Drew, in the hopes that they´ll hook up and it´ll make her life a little easier. It clearly isn´t working though and Drew goes off to talk to some of his friends. Anys comes over to Brittany.
Anya:
What went wrong?
Brittany:
Nothing. We just didn´t have anything in common.
Anya:
That´s okay. He´s just one guy out of many, that I can introduce you to.
Brittany:
I didn´t come here to be introduced to boys!
Anya:
You want a cool boyfriend, don´t you?
Brittany:
Anya, has it occurred to you, that it might not be on the lookout for a BOY-friend?
Anya:
What do you ...
It takes a moment for Anya to figure out what Brittany meant and then, she feels kind of foolish.
Anya:
Oh! I get it now!
Brittany:
Great, because I didn´t feel like saying it out loud in here.
Anya:
So, when you said that you came here to hang out with me, did you mean it in a ...
Brittany:
No, of course not! First of all because you have a boyfriend and I would never accept a situation like that.
Anya:
A boyfriend, a I have next to nothing in common with!
Brittany:
Sure, he´s attractive, but is that really enough for you?
Anya thinks about it.
12. Ext. House. Evening.
Anya and Brittany are trying to get a hold of someone to pick them up, but it´s not easy.
Anya (on the phone):
Come on, Sav! It´s not even eleven! Alright, I guess, I understand.
She hangs up on him and thinks of who to call next.
Brittany:
We could call my mom, but I´d prefer if that was our last option!
Anya:
Same here, when it comes to mine. The last thing I feel like right now, is another speech over my lack of taking responsibility for my life.
Brittany:
There isn´t anyone else, you can think of?
Anya:
Let me think ... there´s Wesley, I guess.
Brittany:
Who´s he?
Anya:
My first boyfriend.
She tries to find the number on her phone.
Brittany:
Can I ask you, why you broke up with him?
Anya:
I felt like he was too immature at the time. To be honest with you, I´ve regretted it more than a few times since.
Anya calls up Wesley.
Anya (on the phone):
Hi, Wesley. It´s me, Anya. Yeah, I know that it´s late, but is it possible that you can do a huge favor for me?
Anya smiles and gives Brittany a thumbs up.
13. Int. Eli´s Room. Evening.
Eli is hanging out with Mo and they´re watching the classic 70´s horror movie "Prom Night". Jamie Lee Curtis is disco dancing with her date in the movie, while the killer plots his attack on the unsuspecting students.
Mo:
This would be better if it had fifty percent less disco dancing in it!
Eli:
Try ninety! It´s more like a disco dancing instructional video, than it is a horror movie!
Mo:
I always heard that "Prom Night" was supposed to be one of the good ones.
Eli:
Let´s be honest here! The standard in the average seventies horror movie wasn´t all that high. It isn´t like an "Exorcist" or "Halloween" were coming out every month.
Mo:
Jamie Lee is still hot in this though!
Eli:
Oh yeah! Although she´s like nine feet tall and we would no doubt look very weird as a couple, if we tried it today!
Mo:
Maybe she has a hot granddaughter, you can go out with.
Eli:
You can try that, if you want to. I´ll stick with Mare for now.
His phone rings and Eli puts the movie on pause, before picking it up. He first looks at the screen with a little bit of confusion.
Eli:
It isn´t someone, I know.
Mo:
If it´s a salesman, I say let him have it! It´s enough that they hound people at every other hour of the day!
Eli picks up the phone and puts it to his ear.
Eli:
Eli here.
Someone (on the phone):
Eli, don´t ...
The caller on the other end doesn´t say anymore for a few seconds.
Someone (on the phone):
Don´t ...
Eli:
Who is this? If this is a prank call ...
The other person hangs up on him and Eli looks a little confused at what happened, as he puts his phone away.
Mo:
Did you find out who it was?
Eli:
No. All they said was the word "don´t".
Mo:
Don´t what?
Eli:
I don´t have a clue!
He restarts the movie and leans back to relax.
14. Ext. Street. Evening.
We cut to a phone booth (yes, a few of those still existed back then!), where Jeremy (who´s used his sleeve to cover up his voice on the call he just made) hangs up the receiver.
Jeremy:
Sorry, Eli. I tried.
He pulls out a 9 mm. gun from his coat pocket and looks like, he´s ready to use it on someone.
CLOSING CREDITS
I KNOW THAT THIS IS QUITE A CLIFFHANGER TO LEAVE YOU GUYS ON. I´LL TRY TO GET THE LAST PART OF THIS TRIPLE EPISODE FINISHED AS SOON AS I CAN, BUT UNTIL THEN I HOPE THAT YOU HAVE A GOOD AND THAT YOU´LL ENJOY THE NEXT TWO EPISODES AS WELL, BEFORE WE REACH THE CONCLUSION TO THIS STORY.
