Yeah, I know Halloween is over and all that, but I'm not going to leave this story on hold for next year! I hope you enjoy this chapter!
First Victim
"Frisk! My child, where did you go?" shouts Toriel as she slowly wanders around the Ruins in the hopes that she could find him. She's all by herself, having asked Sans to look around the areas near her home to try and find him while she takes care of the rest of the place, dealing with all the puzzles and traps that block her way. None of these puzzles cause problems for her because she's done them thousands of times before and could do them with her eyes closed. While she might know them like the back of her paws since she's been here for a long time, Frisk, on the other hand, is not as familiar with them as he's only been through the Ruins in its entirety once way back when he fell into the Underground a while ago. This worries her; he could be seriously hurt or in trouble somewhere without any means of getting help. "Oh dear, why did he have to say what he said…" she mumbles to herself, frustrated that Sans had been inconsiderate towards the young child. She shakes her head back and forth, strengthening her resolve and putting her paws in front of her mouth cupped together like a megaphone. "FRISK! MY CHILD, PLEASE COME ON OUT!" she yells, her voice reverberating a little through the long hall where she remembers testing his independence out. She waits for a few seconds in the hopes that he might come running out from one of the few bushes that decorate it, but nobody comes to heed her call.
She sighs. "Where could he have gone…? The Ruins are not that big and I have checked most of this place." She stands there thinking, thinking deeply about where he would go after getting upset like he did earlier, but nothing comes to her mind. However, she gets a weird feeling of someone or something seemingly watching her from afar and she looks over her right shoulder to see behind her but there's nothing there. She squints her eyes and then turns away. "That was strange, it felt like something was watching me." She plays this off as the holiday simply getting to her. "It is Halloween, I must be thinking too much about the scary aspect of this day." She walks down the hall slowly, looking over and checking every corner that he could possibly be hiding in, hoping to find him soon. Unbeknowst to her, towards the entrance of the hall from where she came from, he's hiding out behind the pillar she hid behind when she tested him way back when he fell into the Underground and while trying to hold his laughter, he and Napstablook await the perfect moment to scare her, which is fast approaching.
"She's never going to see this coming!" he whispers before covering his mouth with his hands, muffling his silly giggles and snickers so she can't hear him.
"...i'm ready!" he says and the entire hoodie starts glowing bright, getting energized by his ghostly magic.
"Alright, let's do this!" he says and thanks to his magic, the two slowly melt into the floor and disappear from sight to put their plan in motion.
She's almost in the middle of the hallway when a powerful gust of chilly air sweeps her purple robe up a little. "Oh!" she puts her paws down on it to prevent it from fluttering up and in her face, and at the same time, all the torches in the room grow dim for a few moments, followed by fizzling out and being extinguished quickly after. Immediately, she thinks this is a prank from some of the delinquent monsters that live in the Ruins. "I told you kids to not prank me! I will not be afraid to tell your parents about this!" She turns around to see who tried flipping her up dress but once again not a single soul is there to answer to her. With how dark it is, she's unsure if there actually is anyone there or not, but thankfully, having fire magic in a situation like this is extremely useful and with her right paw, ignites a small, bright flame in her palm to allow her to see. There's still nobody there and the entire hallway is pitch black all around save for the orange-red light flickering wildly from the flame in her paw. In this darkness, a strong tension fills the air that unnerves her and once again that feeling of being watched comes over her.
A cold sensation grabs her from behind and surprised, she whips around to see who or what had touched her; nothing again. She doesn't appreciate getting toyed with. "Whoever is doing this, I kindly ask for you to please stop. I do not like what you are doing, and it is making me feel uncomfortable." Suddenly, clearer than anything she's ever heard in her life, someone laughs in a high-pitched, childish manner nearby. She swings her entire body towards the direction it came from and for a split second, she sees something that vaporizes into thin air; She runs over to where it was, but she's too slow and they're already gone. She looks over her shoulder, her pupils getting a bit smaller, fear and panic slowly rising up within her. "This is not funny! Come on out right now!" Another spine tickling laughter, although this one is quieter and further away sounding compared to the first one. It echoes all around her, tricking her ears into making her head swing up, down, left, right, in all directions physically possible, trying to figure out who or what is doing this. Her head swivels on a dime in a vain, useless attempt to pinpoint the exact location of these sounds, all she ends up doing is making herself a little dizzy, so she stops and closes her eyes for a few moments while taking in a deep breath to calm herself.
The sound of someone exhaling deeply is heard and yet another wall of cold air chills her to her core, enough so that the fire in her paw chokes and dies against the sub zero snapping freeze, and her eyes shoot open in response. From behind her where she came from, something stands, something cloaked in a glowing veil of ectoplasm and magic tears. She notices the faint glow illuminating the ground in front of her and she turns around to see what it is. From where she's standing, it's nearly impossible for her to see who it is, though the shape of this entity sort of reminds her of Frisk. This makes her relax a little bit and foolishly, she starts approaching them. "My child? Is that you down there? Please, stay there. I will come to you." The creature lifts their head up and peers at them, a wide, black smile creeps along their face and their eyes widen, not with joy but with malice. She stops in place and realizes this entity isn't the child she's looking for; this is something evil, something that wishes harm on her, and its appearance freezes her in place. It turns its entire body towards her and floats up off the ground, spreading its arms out to its sides to allow a whole bunch of ectoplasm to leak out and fall on the floor, slithering and scuttling in all different directions towards her. This is what freaks her out the most as these things look like little insects and she falls on her butt in shock, panicking and trying to scoot herself away from their slow approach. "What are those things!? Keep them away! Stay back!" she might be a little scared, but that doesn't stop her as she conjures two powerful fireballs in the palms of her paws in the hopes she can burn them up and get them away.
She lifts her right paw over her head in preparation to lob the flames, but her wrist is caught and held in place. She looks up to see what stopped her and the entity puts one of its limbs over the flames, pressing their fingers deep into it and extinguishing it without any effort. It also smiles wider and drips a whole bunch of white goo over her as it gets closer to her and leans over her before disappearing one last time. This little stunt was enough to fill her heart with fear completely and this makes her drop the other fireball in her paw as she panics and gets up to run away, screaming as she does so. She runs towards the opposite end of the hallway in the hopes she can escape the entity, but all of the slithering ectoplasm takes action and outruns her to the exit, creating a giant glowing wall to block it off and prevent her from leaving. She stops dead in her tracks a foot in front of it and stares at it in disbelief. Her face says it all; she knows she's going to be killed by this thing and nobody will help her.
A gurgling, childish laughter comes from behind her. She shouldn't turn around to see what's there, she should be using her magic to see if she can destroy this ectoplasmic barrier holding her hostage, but she's stuck in place. Her body refuses to move and is left to be played around with by the whims and desires of this creature. "NOOOO! LEAVE ME ALONE!" she screams before shrieking and howling from the terror controlling her. The creature limps its way to her slowly, each step they take is wet and sloshy, splattering ectoplasm all over; they glow brighter and brighter, their face contorting and twisting into her deepest fears while growing rapidly in size. The ghastly ice-white glow casts itself all around her and the evil stands right behind her, ready to deal its final blow. Against her own will, she turns around and looks death straight in the face, and it responds in kind by blasting out one of the loudest roars she's ever heard in her life, seeing a massive ghostly white demon scream in her face. It spits white goo on her as it howls, its teeth sharper than any knife in the Underground, and its claws hanging high over her waiting to sink themselves into her flesh. She screams in such a high pitched that it hurts her own ears, and she jumps back, her pupils locked dead into the swirling hell that lives in their eyes, this is the last thing she sees and right as they drop their claws down on her, it goes silent, and everything becomes dark once again.
She sits on the ground, lying against the wall completely shocked. Her heart races fast enough to jump out of her chest and win a marathon if it so desires. Her pupils quickly dart in all directions to see where it went but the darkness hides their presences. Her limbs shaking and weak, she struggles to stand up and walks a few feet away from the wall. There's nothing around her, a void laughing at her struggles, judging her foolish screaming that didn't bring anyone to help her. Whatever it was that she saw seems to have disappeared and she exhales deeply, letting her guard down.
"BOO!"
She screams even louder than she did before, jumping into the air and running away as fast as she can, nearly smashing into the walls a few times if it wasn't for her holding her arms out in front of her to catch herself. She runs in the direction where she originally came from, disappearing from sight, leaving Frisk and Napstablook in the center of the hallway as the torches reignite themselves and bring light to vanquish the evil darkness; the two of them had got her real good. "HECK YEAH! That was awesome!" Frisk says before laughing hysterically at his mom's reaction to him becoming truly scary. "I bet she'll never say I'm cute ever again after that one!"
Even Blooky has to agree. "gee, she sure sounded frightened… you're really good at this, Frisk."
His cheeks blush a little and he taps his pointer fingers together. "Oh uh… hehe… thanks." he feels a bit weird and awkward at the compliment, not expecting it at all. He can't forget that it was a dual effort. "It's not only my voice and tricky mischief that scared her; your magic gave me the power to look and act real scary. If anything, you're the one who scared her."
Though fabric shouldn't be able to change color, the ghostly white fleece changes into a peachy, light, pink-like blush in response to an overflow of joy. "oh gee… you're making me blush…"
He insists. "Seriously! You rocked that horror magic way too good. If it was all me, I wouldn't have come close to scaring mom at all."
His rounded, black eyes and white pupils look down, feeling quite joyful that he managed to do something right. "i did good i guess… thank you Frisk, this was really fun…"
He knows who they should try and scare next, but knowing his mom, she's probably making her way through the Ruins to where he is and will tell him about what happened. Perhaps it would've been in their best interest to scare him first because now it might be a bit more difficult to do so with the knowledge that someone or something had spooked the queen out of her robe, so to speak. His wide smile, having had tons of fun, shrinks in the face of reality slowly setting in; scaring Sans will not be as easy as using magic ectoplasm and scary noises, they'll need to completely catch him off-guard with something unpredictable, unforeseeable, and most importantly, scarier than anyone in the Underground could ever come up with. "Napstablook, we're going to need more than what we did to scare Sans. Mom is definitely going to tell him about what we did, but we aren't completely busted. She doesn't know that it was us and that's something that will help us, so we might have to wait…" the little determined brain cells in his head fire off strong. "Or we can try to scare Papyrus and Undyne instead!"
The ghostly white color of his hoodie returns and Blooky, ready for another round, starts glowing. "ooooh… Undyne and Papyrus? this might be too much fun for one ghost to handle…"
He already has an idea on how he can scare them in one shot without either of them finding out who they are. "There's a way to get into that house without anyone knowing, and I know exactly how to get in there…!" he claps his hands together and rubs them while laughing in a naughty manner. "Not even the captain of the Royal Guard and the Great Papyrus can avoid getting scared!" He points up at the sky with his left pointer finger. "TO SNOWDIN TOWN!"
"here we go." he says and using his magic to melt the two of them down, they sink into the ground and phase through the Ruins to head to where their next victims lie. Excitement sings deep within their bodies, and with another plan in tow, they're sure to spook them really good.
