As I woke up, I looked out the window and saw that I had woken up a bit early, as the sun hadn't
even come out yet. Jamie was still asleep, so I figured I'd go down and make her something to have for breakfast. As I got out of bed and opened the bedroom door slowly, I began to think about what we were going to do today.
"Hmm… what's to do here…" I muttered to myself. "The Brew & Stew? Nah, I caused quite a scene there last night, I doubt they would let me back in…"
"The bar again? Although that place is mainly just for drinks…"
Heading to the kitchen, I fired the smoker back up, taking some wheat out of the chest.
"Come on Mike, think…"
Josh walked into the kitchen as I dropped the wheat on a crafting table.
"W-what the fuck are you doing up this e-early…" He asked, yawning.
"I dunno…" I replied. "I kinda just woke up. What about you?"
"I fell off the bed." Josh replied. I managed to let out a chuckle in my tired voice.
"What a way to start the day, am I right…" I commented, stuffing the food into the smoker.
"Jamie up?" Josh asked.
"Nah." I replied. "But when she wakes up, she's going to wake up to some fresh bread."
Taking the toasted bread out of the toaster, I put it into my inventory and made my way back up to the stairs.
"Breakfast in bed?" Josh asked me.
"Yeah. Then we're going to go out…"
"Tooooo?" Josh wondered.
"Well, see, that's the thing. I kind of haven't made up my mind on where to take her." I replied.
"Dude. Just take her out to dinner or something." Josh suggested.
"This was meant to be a whole day ordeal. I doubt we'd be at a restaurant for the entire day." I said.
"Hmm…" Josh said, yawning again and rubbing his chin in thought.
"Why not just go exploring?" Josh asked.
"You mean…"
"Just get out of the village and just screw around in the wilderness for the majority of the day, grab some food on the way home, dance around in the dark or some other generic romantic shit, then boom, successful date." Josh explained.
"You know what… that might actually work." I replied.
"Why not take her fishing?" Walter asked, coming out of his room, startling both of us.
"Walter?" Josh asked.
"You've been listening to us?" I added.
"I'm not concerned about that…" Josh said. "I'm more concerned with why the HELL you think it's a good idea to take someone fishing on a FUCKING DATE!"
"Calm down man, the sun hasn't even come out yet…" Walter replied. "Fishing is calming. And in minecraft, fishing can actually be useful."
"He has a point…" I told Josh. "You can get stuff like enchantment books and other valuables if you have a good fishing rod.'
"Do you have one already?" Walter asked.
"No, but I can probably just craft some." I replied.
"Alright, well, if you are actually wanting to catch some good loot, you should enchant your rods." Walter said, as I was walking up the stairs.
"Noted." I replied. Coming into the room, I noticed that Jamie was slowly waking up as the sun started to come out. Looking at me, she let out a loud yawn.
"I was thinking y-you'd still be asleep…" She said.
"Nah, I was downstairs making you breakfast." I replied, taking out the toasted bread and handing it to her.
"Oh. Thank you." Jamie replied, taking the bread and starting to munch on it.
"So, do you have any suggestions?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" Jamie replied.
"For today."
"Oh… um… I don't know, whatever you wanna do flies I guess."
"How does some fishing sound?"
Jamie chuckled. "The first suggestion you gave me… Is fishing?" She said, finishing up the toasted bread. "This bread tastes like heaven by the way. Please give me more of it some time."
"Noted." I replied. "Anyways, back to the fishing part, we could do more than just that."
"Like?"
"Oh, I don't know, maybe we can look for another wolf to tame, or some other animals. Or just go out exploring."
"You know what…" Jamie said, getting up. "I don't know this place all too well, let's go exploring then."
"Alright, sounds like a plan." I replied.
"If you really want to though, we can go fishing first." Jamie replied. "We can stop by the armory on the way out of the village and see if they can get our fishing rods enchanted."
"Sounds like a good idea." I answered. Walking up to the chest, I searched through it to see if we had any string. Luckily, there was just enough to make two fishing rods. Grabbing the string and a stack of wood planks, I walked over to a crafting table and began to craft some fishing rods. Just then, Miles woke up and began wagging his tail at me. I reached down to pet him.
"Morning buddy!" I said, returning to crafting.
"Wanna take him with us?" Jamie asked.
"Uh… You sure?" I replied. "What if the dog–"
"Ruins it for us? Nonsense." Jamie replied. "I'd say he'd actually make it more enjoyable."
"Then it's settled…" I said, commanding Miles to stand up. "Miles, you're comin with us today."
Miles circled around several times and barked in happiness, wagging his tail rapidly.
"He's so cute when he's excited." Jamie said, smiling.
"Yeah, he is." I said.
Grabbing the fishing rods and the rest of the supplies, we headed out of the room. I commanded Miles to follow us, which he happily did.
"Private message me if shit hits the fan." I mentioned to Walter as we were walking out.
"Nonsense." Walter replied. "You two enjoy yourselves. We'll take care of business here."
"I appreciate it. Thanks." I said, stepping out the house and closing the door behind us. As we walked out, Miles looked in awe at the buildings and houses in the area.
"Somebody's excited." I said, looking at Miles as he ran forward and wandered around the streets.
"Should've crafted a lead before we left…" Jamie said.
"Eh, dogs are programmed to always be close to their owners, so I don't think we'll have to worry." I replied, snapping my fingers to get Miles' attention.
"This village is awfully big for being near spawn…" I commented. "That makes me wonder, why are all the ones near the spawn area so small?"
"Because nobody wants to live near the spawn area." Jamie explained. "There are a bunch of assholes there that like to harass the new players. Or worse."
"Hmm. I'm surprised that I still have yet to run into one of them…" I explained.
"What about Miles?" Jamie asked.
"What's wrong with him? I thought he just wanted to protect his village."
"Well, he almost always took "protect" too seriously." Jamie answered. "He was a perfectionist."
Just then, we passed by the armory. I opened the door and held it open for Jamie and Miles to come through.
"What's up?" The guy at the counter asked.
"Need to enchant these fishing rods." I said, holding them out to the guy.
"Alright, which enchantments would you like on these?" He replied.
"Uh… Good ones." I replied.
"Well then, I'll get to work on them."
"Thanks." I said, sitting down in a chair. Looking around, I noticed that another player already in the waiting area was looking at our dog.
"Nice pet you got there bro." The player said.
"Thank you." I replied, Miles barking and wagging his tail at the player.
"May I ask where you found your wolf?" The player asked, getting up and approaching us.
"The forest region on the border of the big ass desert." I replied, noticing that the player was getting closer to Miles. He didn't seem too bothered by him, though.
"You can pet him if you want. He's very friendly." I invited him.
The player pet the dog, a smile spreading across his face.
"Man, I hope I can find my own wolf soon." The player said, as the guy at the counter pulled out an iron sword and set it down on the table.
"Your swords ready buddy." He said, as the player approached the table.
"This game can get a little lonely at times." The player said, picking up the sword and looking at it, while reaching into his inventory.
"Keep your hopes up." I replied. "You'll find yours eventually." I said, smiling.
The player smiled back at me. "Thank you."
As the player walked out, the clerk took a look at me and Jamie.
"So, how long have you two been together for?"
Jamie blushed. "What?"
"Well, it's pretty obvious you two are dating… or just really really close friends." The clerk mentioned.
"Uhh… well, it's kind of hard to keep track in minecraft days." I explained. "But we've been together since we moved here."
"Wait a second… I think I recognize you two from before…" The clerk said. "Aren't you the guy that beat Reeces ass at that PVP stadium because she was trying to hit on her?"
"Y-yeah?" I replied.
"Ah, so you two have been together for quite a while then." The clerk replied.
"I suppose so." I answered.
"Aren't you also the leader of the resistance?" The clerk asked me, as he finished enchanting the rods.
"You can say that…" I replied. "I assisted with yesterday's battle."
"Well in that case…" The clerk said, laying the two fishing rods on the table. "These are on the house."
"Oh come on… I gotta pay you something…" I said, reaching into my inventory.
"Nope." The clerk said. "Well, actually, a handshake would suffice."
"A handshake?" I asked.
"Yes." The clerk replied.
"Well, I don't see the harm in that." I said, reaching my hand. The clerk shook my hand firmly, as I took the fishing rods and put them in my inventory.
"If you ever need anything, just come back to this shop and I'll hook you up." He said, as we were walking to the door.
"Thanks." I answered.
"Good luck out there. Stay safe." The clerk said, as he walked away.
"You too." I replied, as we excited the armory.
"I can't believe we got those for free." Jamie said, as I took one of the fishing rods out and handed it to her.
"Me neither." I replied. "I was prepared to pay big bucks for those enchantments…" I said, inspecting my rod. Looking at the list of enchantments, I was shocked.
"Holy shit… this rod has both luck AND luck of the sea on it…" I said.
"So does mine." Jamie replied.
"Damn, I gotta go back and pay the guy, these enchantments are REALLY hard to come across…" I said, turning back. Jamie grabbed my hand.
"Just accept the guy's kindness." She said, I let out a sigh.
"After all, you did help save the village from those pumpkin heads last night."
"Yeah… okay, I guess so." I said, turning back again towards the entrance of the village. Walking up to the gate, the gatekeeper opened the gate for us, giving a friendly wave to Miles as we exited.
"Do we have a boat?" Jamie asked.
"Ah shit, I forgot to craft one before we left." I said.
"That's alright, we can just punch a tree and craft one." Jamie replied, dragging me along towards the forest region.
"Let's just take a quick look around first." I said.
We made our way to the edge of the village and began to walk around. It was nice to be outside and away from the cramped village, but it was especially nice to be able to get some alone time with Jamie.
"How many wood planks do I need for a boat again?" I asked Jamie.
"Five." she answered. "Should just take like two oak blocks."
"Alright…" I said, approaching a tree and beginning to punch away. As I was crafting, Miles bolted towards a horde of sheep in the distance.
"HEY! MILES, QUIT!" Jamie yelled as he sank his teeth into the nearest sheep, as the rest scattered in a panic.
"He isn't gonna stop, wolves hunt sheep no matter what." I said, finishing up the boat.
"I know there is a lake somewhere that way." Jamie said, pointing deeper into the forest. "I haven't been there before, I just saw it on someone's map before."
"Alright, lead the way." I said.
"Gladly." Jamie said, looking into my eyes and smiling, as Miles viciously tore up the last of the sheep horde mercilessly.
Walking further into the forest, I looked at the orange hue in the sky.
"Looks like it's going to be a nice day." I said.
"It sure does." Jamie agreed.
We continued to walk for a bit longer, until we came to a small pond, surrounded by tall trees.
"This should be the place." Jamie said.
"This is it?" I said, looking at the small body of water.
"I guess so." Jamie said.
"Well, it won't hurt to give it a try." I said, taking my boat out and placing it on the water as Miles teleported to me.
"Will he fit in the boat?" Jamie asked, pointing to my dog while getting into the boat.
"Well, we're about to find out." I said, hopping into the boat as well.
Sure enough, Miles jumped into the water and swam over to the boat, and attempted to get in. As he was using his paws to pull himself up, he was rocking the boat around aggressively, and it almost capsized before I picked him up and sat him on my lap, only for him to shake around and completely drench my clothes with water. Jamie busted out in laughter.
"Damn, you're wetter than Mr. Krab's jeans when Mrs. Puff walks into the Krusty Krab…" Jamie said, attempting to catch her breath.
"Hey, I'm not that bad." I said, taking my hoodie off and shaking it over the edge of the boat. Miles looked at me, wagging his tail.
"Are you kidding? You're soaked." Jamie said, laughing, as I put my hoodie back on and grabbed the paddles, rowing closer to the middle of the pond.
"Aight…" I said, getting my fishing rod out. "Time to cop some fish."
Jamie pulled her fishing rod out as well, casting it into the pond before me. As we waited, I leaned back and enjoyed the subtle noise of the calm waters, as well as the animals in the distance.
"Man, this sure is calming." Jamie commented, looking around.
"Yeah, it's nice to get away from the village every once in a while." I replied, looking into the water.
After a minute or two, I heard the splash of Jamie catching a fish.
"Nice!" I cheered, as she pulled her fish out of the water and handed it to me to look at.
"Ooh, salmon… tasty!" I said, as Jamie put the fish into her inventory. Unfortunately, I didn't have the same luck for my line, as I still had yet to catch anything.
Jamie turned to notice my line not getting any attention. "Why not try casting it on the other side?" She suggested.
"You know what…" I said, as I reeled my line back. "Imma try that."
Turning around, I yeeted my fishing pole forward and the bobber reached far beyond the boat.
"Damn, that's far." I said, slowly pulling the rod back in.
As I did, I noticed the bobber was starting to sink.
"Shit, I got a catch!" I said, quickly grabbing the fishing rod and reeling it in.
As I did, the tension on my line got higher and higher.
"Oh man, it's a big one." I said, as the rod started to bend.
"Pull it in!" Jamie yelled, as I yanked the rod in as hard as I could. Sure enough, a large pufferfish emerged from the water and landed right smack in the middle of the boat.
"Awww yeah!" I said, as I quickly picked it up and inspected it.
"You know what this means?" Jamie asked, as she looked at the pufferfish.
"Uhh…" Jamie wondered.
"Well, we can either use it for a water breathing potion, or trade it with someone for big bucks!" I explained.
"Oh, that's an awesome catch then!" Jamie said, giving me a high five.
"Yeah, I think it will work out." I said, putting the pufferfish into my inventory.
"Let's head back to the village and sell it." Jamie suggested. "It's not like we're gonna be going on some scuba diving mission any time soon that would require such a potion."
Just then, I noticed something in the pond that was glowing.
"The hell is that?" I said, pointing to what appeared to be a long glowing blue stick.
"What?" Jamie asked, turning around. I noticed that Miles had stopped wagging its tail. Just then, the glowing stick shot forward towards the boat and we both ducked as a trident emerged from the water and hit a tree nearby. Looking at it, it was shining as it shook violently, dislodged itself from the tree and shot back into the water. I put Miles on the floor of the boat, stood up and took out a bow.
"Drowns." I called out, looking for the glow again. When I saw it, I fired an arrow towards it, and I saw the drowned's body glowing red with pain.
"I got him." Jamie said, taking a bow of her own out and aiming at the glow as well. Just then, the drowned threw the trident again, this time it was just about to hit me, as I was firing another shot from my bow into the water. Just as the trident would have nailed me in the face, Jamie grabbed me and pulled me back. As the trident flew past me, I attempted to grab it. As it began to shake violently again, I dropped my bow and pulled out an iron sword. I could feel the trident wanting to return back to the zombie underwater, and I held onto the trident as it dragged me into the water. Holding out my sword, I had it ready to attack the zombie as soon as the trident brought me to him. As I was getting near, I jammed my iron sword into its chest, and it turned red, disappearing. Looking around, I was able to see the swarm of fish swimming freely in the pond, the trident helping to illuminate it all better. Putting both the sword and trident away, I began to swim up to the surface. As my head rose above the water, I looked up to Jamie.
"Well, looks like we got a free trident too!" I said, pulling it out once more.
"Looks like it's already grown accustomed to its new wielder." Jamie commented.
"Let's put that to the test." I said, throwing the trident into the pond. After a couple of seconds, I held my hand out, and sure enough, the trident returned to me, with a couple of cod stuck to its ends.
Jamie cheered. "Man, FUCK real life fishing, this is great!" She said, as Miles also showed some excitement.
"Well, I guess the whole group is gonna be havin fish for dinner!" I said.
"Funny saying that, cause I don't usually eat fish." Jamie said, as I stuffed the cod into my inventory.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah. Mainly I just go fishing for the experience." Jamie explained.
"Well, one thing for sure, this cod is gonna taste fuckin mint." I said, holding my hand out in an ok symbol.
"I'll say!" Jamie said, holding her hand out as well.
"Ok, now that we got a… no, two nice ass catches, we can take our time and enjoy the rest of the day." I said, sitting down in the boat.
"I'm glad we came here." Jamie said, sitting next to me.
"Me too." I said, leaning back and closing my eyes.
"Man, this ambient noise is making me tired again…" Jamie said, yawning, as Miles stretched out and curled up into a donut.
"I think imma take a nap…" I said, as I felt consciousness slipping from me.
"I think I'm gonna do the same." I heard Jamie reply before I passed out.
Waking up, I slowly regained awareness of the surroundings. The trees, the sparkling water, Jamie, who was still asleep, and…
"Miles?" I called out, realizing he was no longer in the boat.
"Miles?" I said a little bit louder.
"W-what?" Jamie said, waking up as well.
"The dog is gone…" I said, pointing to where Miles was sleeping.
"MILES!" I yelled as Jamie stretched out.
"He couldn't have gone out too far. Lets just row to the shore and go out looking for him." Jamie replied.
"This isn't normal behavior for a wolf…" I said. "They're supposed to be near the player at all times…"
"Well, remember when we were on our way here and he started hunting that horde of sheep back there?" Jamie reminded me. "That's probably where he is. We just gotta look for mobs, or dropped loot."
"I sure hope something terrible didn't happen to him while we were napping…" I said, grabbing the paddles and beginning to row back to the shore. Looking at the sun, it was already mid day.
"Damn, we were out for a while…" I said, pointing to the sun. "It's already lunch time…"
"Well, we have the fish we just caught." Jamie replied.
"You don't want to go somewhere special?" I offered.
"We don't have to." Jamie replied. "I'll just have one of your cod."
"Well alright. I was originally thinking about taking you to that other restaurant, but if that's what you want…" I stated, pulling two pieces of cod out and handing them to her. "Eat up."
"Thanks." Jamie said, biting into the fish. "Oh damn… this really does taste good."
"Told you so." I replied, as the boat reached the shore. Getting out, I grabbed Jamie's hand and helped her out, then broke the boat with an axe, stuffing it into my inventory.
"AYO MILES, WHERE ARE YA BUDDY?" I called out into the forest.
"MILES, COME HERE!" Jamie yelled out.
"I should've told him to stay before I passed out…" I said. "Who knows where he could be now…"
"No worries." Jamie said, patting me on the shoulder. "Let's just keep looking for him."
"Alright." I said, as we walked deeper into the forest.
After walking for a while, we found ourselves in a clearing. Looking around, I noticed that there were no animals in sight, and the trees seemed to be devoid of leaves. It was very strange.
"Looks like someone pulled a herobrine on these trees…" I said, pointing around at the trees.
"We need to be careful." Jamie said, her hand at her side ready to pull out a sword. "We don't know who else could be here."
I pulled out my sword as well.
"Don't have your weapon out yet, we don't want to pose off as a threat right from the get-go." Jamie suggested.
"Right." I said, stuffing my sword back into my inventory.
"Hello?" I called out. "Anyone here?"
"Miles! Where are you?" Jamie yelled.
"Man, if we don't find him soon, we're gonna get caught in the dead of night." I mentioned, looking towards the sun.
"It doesn't get dark that quickly…" Jamie stated.
"Oh, it sure as hell does…" I replied.
