Mt. Justice
Today the team were going on their first mission. Some were shaking on the inside others were excited to finally have the chance to prove themselves. The Team were in the briefing room as Batman discussed the mission details to them.
"Isla Santa Prisca." Batman explained the location. "This island nation is the primary source of a dangerous and illegal neurosteroid, a strength-enhancing drug sold under the street name venom."
Batman changed the screen to show blueprints of the facility, "Infrared heat signatures indicate their factory is still operating at full capacity, but all shipments of venom have been inexplicably cut off. That's where this team comes in. This is a covert recon mission only. Observe and report. If the Justice League needs to intervene, it will."
The screen changed to a full sized map of the island, "The plan requires two drop zones."
"So who's in charge?" Robin asked.
Batman and Red Tornado looked at each other, and back to the team, "Work that out between you."
Robin nodded then smirked.
The team were arriving on the island by Bioship eta a few minutes.
"We're approaching Santa Prisca." Miss Martian told the crew.
"I think I'm nervous. Is this normal?" Wonder Boy asked.
"Well this is our first real mission. So I guess." Supergirl replied.
"Drop zone A in thirty." Miss Martian called.
Aqualad stood from his seat and switched to his stealth suit, "Ready."
"Putting bioship in camouflage mode." Miss Martian called.
The ship cloaked as it got closer and closer to the island, when it was close enough, Aqualad jumped out from a hole and swam to the island.
Running to the SAM site, Aqualad inserted their device to patch the sensors, the engine's revved up and the light was all clear, "Heat and motion sensors are patched. Data is now on a continuous loop, move in."
"Drop zone B." Miss Martian stood with the rest of the Team. The ship dropped rappelling ropes to clamp on their belts. Kid Flash tapped his emblem, and it swapped his yellow and red suit for a black and red suit.
"How cool is this?" Kid Flash asked.
"Very Impressive." Miss Martian morphed her suit into full body black and red suit.
"Uh that works too." Kid Flash gleamed at her.
"My turn." Supergirl was next to swap her blue suit for a black and red suit. The red carried the shape of their symbol, and a black cape, but it was red on the inside, "How do I look?" Supergirl asked Kid Flash.
"Awesome." Kid Flash said then turned to Superboy. "Hey Supey, Wonder Brat not too late to put on the new stealth tech."
"No capes, no tights, no offense." Superboy replied.
"It totally works for you." Miss Martian stared at him, "in that you can totally do good work in those clothes." She held her thumb up.
"Firstly never call me that again and secondly I really need to get some new gear." Wonder Boy said looking down at his clothes. He had no suit like any of them did just boots, cargo pants, and his hoodie with the Amazon markings, not something one would call a suit. Also he had no weapons except for his bracers, his flight and strength have helped him so far but weapons would come in real handy.
"Don't worry Wonder Boy, gear doesn't make a hero." Supergirl smiled.
"But it sure does help." Wonder Boy said pulling up his hood and then stepping down the hole.
Miss Martian furled her hoodie and cloaked floating her way down to the ground.
Robin and Kid Flash rappelled down to the ground.
Miss Martian, Supergirl, and Wonder Boy floated down, but Superboy was a little bit behind. They looked above and noticed Superboy was dropping to the ground with a loud impact. So they moved out of the way before he stuck his landing. The landing however left superboy in a crater.
"Knew I didn't need a line." Superboy smiled.
"And yet creating a seismic event may not have helped us much with the covert." Robin noted the obvious.
"Aqualad, drop B is go." Miss Martian called Aqualad.
"Head for the factory. I'll track your GPS and rendezvous ASAP." Aqualad said over comms.
"Roger that." Robin called off the transmission.
The team moved quietly through the jungle, under the waterfalls, and down a path nearing a wider path. Along their way, Superboy and Supergirl caught wind of rustling in the distance, "Did you hear that?"
"No." Wonder Boy responded.
"I'm hearing it too." Supergirl can hear it.
"Uh, no. Wait, is this a super hearing thing?" Kid Flash asked.
"You do have great ears." Miss Martian said.
"Okay, Rob, now what?" Kid Flash looked over to Robin but he was not there, "Man, I hate it when he does that."
"That is getting annoying." Supergirl looked irritated.
"You're telling me." Wonder Boy said.
"Superboy, Supergirl, Kid, Switch to infrared. See if you're being tracked." Aqualad called as he was making his way to the team.
Kid Flash equipped his goggles and activated the infrared function. Taking the time to focus, he zoomed in further down the path, "Got a squad of armed bozos incoming."
Superboy and Supergirl used their x-ray vision on the other side of the path, "Two squads, but they'll meet each other before they find us."
"I can't find Robin anywhere." Supergirl added.
Suddenly the entire team heard the sound of gunfire coming from not far.
"No super hearing required now." Kid Flash said.
'Swing wide, steer clear.' Aqualad advised.
"Y-yeah, just as soon as I find Rob."
"Don't." Wonder Boy tried to grab Kid Flash but he was too slow.
Kid Flash ran over the ground but he slipped and tumbled into the middle of the squad's firefight.
"So much for the stealthy." Kid Flash said as he found himself in front of Bane.
Bane fired on Kid Flash but he dashed out of the way. Beside Bane, Superboy charged at him. He made a thorough tackle but Bane intercepted by shoving Superboy into the ground and putting him in a headlock. Quickly thinking he switched his grip to Bane's shirt and threw him to the tree.
Two of the goons were shooting at Kid Flash while bouncing through the trees. Then the shadow of a kid dropped down on one of the two goons. Robin knocked out one but the other needs work to be beaten, "What is wrong with you guys? Remember covert? Why didn't you follow my lead and vanish into the jungle?"
Kid Flash was beating out one of the goons, "That's what you were doing? Way to fill us in." Kid Flash argued.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Wonder Boy asked as he was beating down two of the robed figures on the other side of the fight, "All you did was vanish." Supergirl called handling a few more robed figures.
"We're not mind readers you know!" Kid Flash called. Miss Martian threw a few goons at the trees, "Eh, I'm not anyway."
"You told me I could only read the bad guy's minds." Miss Martian replied.
Robin noticed a straggler but Aqualad caught him, shocked him out cold, and crushed his radio with his foot.
After tying all of the Cobras and Bane's men including Bane himself to a few trees the team gathered to discuss what to do next.
Robin looked at the outfits of the ones with red hoods and said. "I recognize those uniforms. They belong to the cult of the Kobra."
"I am certain Batman would have mentioned it if he knew a dangerous extremist was running Santa Prisca's venom operation." Aqualad explained to Robin.
"Agreed, and since there's no love lost between the cultists and those goons. I'm betting Kobra came in and tossed them out. That's why normal supply lines have been cut off." Robin deduced.
"We get it. Kobra wanted super cultists. Mystery solved. Radio bats and we'll be home in time-"
Robin interrupted. "These cultists aren't on venom. Kobra's hoarding the stuff. We don't leave. Not until I know why."
"Until you know why?" Kid Flash questioned.
"This team needs a leader." Robin placed his position.
"And it's you? Dude you're a thirteen year old kid who ducked out on us without a word." Kid Flash questioned if Robin is actually leader material.
Robin laughed, "And you're mature fifteen? You blew our cover the first chance you got."
Miss Martian and Superboy stood away from the two arguing, "Don't you want to lead?"
Superboy nodded 'no' with a scoff and a nod, "You?"
"After the Mr. Twister fiasco?" Miss Martian held her hand.
"You did alright." Superboy comforted.
Noticing Miss Martian and Superboy's chat, Supergirl was curious, "Hey, Wonder Boy, think you could lead?"
Wonder Boy laughed at the question, "I'm twelve years old, I've trained for only one year, and I don't even have a suit. I'm no leader."
"You're correct Wonder Boy, you aren't a leader… Not yet." Aqualad assured. "But in the short time we've been together I've seen you have the potential: Your observation, fighting abilities, and your willingness to help others. In time you'll no doubt be this team's leader."
"Thanks, Aqualad, that means a lot. Maybe you should be the one leading us." Wonder Boy suggested.
"I agree. You seem the most level-headed here." Supergirl complimented.
"Thanks, both of you." Aqualad smiled.
Suddenly Supergirl and Superboy picked up something with their superhearing. There was chatter between Bane and his goon in Spanish.
"(Look at them argue! Free yourself and take them while they're distracted!)" The goon said to Bane in Spanish.
"(Quiet! For now I play along. They'll give me what I need.)" Bane responded.
After their conversation ended, Supergirl and Superboy looked at each other and smiled.
"Yeah? You don't even have superpowers!" Kid Flash and Robin are still fighting.
"Neither does Batman!" Robin argued.
"Duh, you're not Batman." Kid Flash sealed the argument there.
"Duh, closest thing we got." Robin fought back.
Wonder Boy groaned. "Will you two stop it!"
Bane started laughing at the kid's expense, "Such clever ninos, but you only know half the story."
"So tell us the other half." Supergirl asked with her arms on her hips.
"How about I show you the rest, get you in the factory via my secret entrance." Bane finished.
Miss Martian knelt down to read Bane's mind, "There is a secret entrance, but he's also hiding something." She tried to dig deeper.
"Ah, ah, ah, chica. Bane is not that easy." Bane blocked his mind.
Miss Martian groaned in slight pain in her head, "He's mentally reciting football scores en Espanol. This could take a while."
"Clever, and complicated." Wonder Boy stepped in.
"It's not complicated. The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Bane cited the old line.
"Alright let's just say it here, obviously you're hiding something, and as your friend what's worth hiding from us? What's in it for you, more Venom?" Wonder Boy probed, and his only answer was a smile.
Bane guided the team to his venom factory, then looked down to see it in sight. Robin pulled out his binoculars and found more shipments of venom, "Look that all that product. A buy is going down."
Robin handed the binoculars to Wonder Boy. "Wow, with all that venom they could create a massive army."
"An army for who?" Supergirl asked as she zoomed in with her vision.
"Kadmus?" Superboy asked.
"No, if Kobra's not selling it to the usual suspects then-"
"We need to identify that buyer." Aqualad concluded.
"Just what I was thinking." Kid Flash said.
"Agreed." Wonder Boy said.
"Yeah you're the thinkers." Robin sarcastically remarked.
"Sarcasm? Dude." Kid Flash reaponsed.
"Don't rope me into this, guys." Wonder Boy drew the line.
"A real leader would focus on getting answers." Kid Flash noted to Robin.
Bane lifted up a giant rock revealing a hidden passageway. Tossing it to the side he held his hand before the team, "Answers are this way."
"So now El Luchador is our leader." Kid Flash boasted only to have Robin smack him away.
"I don't trust him." Wonder Boy whispered to Supergirl.
"Good, I don't either." She replied.
The Team followed Bane down the tunnel until they were stopped by a massive blast door. Pressing his thumb print on the scanner the door opened. Taking a peak, he and Robin surveyed the room, "All clear." Robin sprinted out before the rest of the team could step out.
Bane and the team followed behind but Robin vanished from their sight. "Has that little fool already been caught?"
"No he just does that." Aqualad said.
"Way too much." Supergirl added.
Kid Flash lowered his goggles. "Stay put, I'll get our intel and be back before Bot Wonder."
"I'll come with you. I have super speed too." Supergirl volunteered.
"Wait, no!" Aqualad tried to stop the two.
"Great chain of command." Bane criticized.
"Let's just locate the shipment." Wonder Boy moved along.
Unbeknownst to them Robin was above them and broke into the control room. Inside a Kobra agent was working on the monitor. Throwing a Batarang near the cultists, the device released a sleeping gas in the room which knocked out the Kobra agent.
Robin walked in and brushed him off the chair, and started hacking into the files.
Back on the ground level, Aqualad, Superboy, Miss Martian, Wonder Boy and Bane were surveying the shipment process.
"It's a massive shipment." Aqualad whispered.
"Yeah but they're only taking new product off the line. They're not touching this venom." Superboy pointed out.
"Maybe freshness counts." Miss Martian suggested.
"Or modifications that someone's not telling us about." Wonder Boy nodded to Bane.
Suddenly Superboy heard the sounds of helicopters coming with his super hearing. "Helicopters coming."
Back in the control room, Robin was met with Kid Flash and Supergirl, "What you got?" Kid Flash asked while eating a candy bar.
"Chemical formulas. I'm guessing it involves Venom, but…"
"What are we looking at?" Supergirl asked.
Kid Flash pointed to the cellular structure of Venom with his candy bar, "This one's Venom and that one's…" As soon as Kid Flash recognized it his eyes widened. "Whoa. The Blockbuster formula from Cadmus. Mixed correctly, Kobra's new juice is three times stronger than venom… And permanent."
"But how did these guys even get that Blockbuster stuff in the first place?" Supergirl wondered.
"Our mystery buyer must also be Kobra's supplier! Using the cult to create a blockbuster venom super formula."
Knowing they needed to put a stop to this Robin contacted the other. "Robin to Aqulad. We got-"
The only thing he got was static.
"Comms must be jammed." Supergirl suggested.
The helicopter landed and the first to step out was a man wearing a metal mask.
"Lord Kobra." The man greeted
"Sportsmaster." Kobra greeted, "The shipment is ready."
A woman showed Sportsmaster their latest concoction, and took a deep look at the blue liquid inside, "The new Kobra Venom?"
"A complete success." Kobra pointed at the hulking monstrosity behind him, "Our friends will not be disappointed."
Sports master held up the venom vial and said, "This is a game changer. Finally, we can go mano-a-mano with the Justice League."
Miss Martian fortunately was hovering above them, invisible, "Aqualad, sending you a telepathic image of the buyer now."
Aqualad knelt as he received confirmation of the buyer, "Sportsmaster. He's the buyer?" Reaching to his earpiece, this got serious, "Aqualad to Red Tornado. Do you read?"
Unfortunately, all he got was static, just like Robin, "Ugh. Can't reach the League, Robin, kid or Supergirl. Comms jammed, we need a plan, now."
"I have a suggestion." Bane jumped from the terrace letting out a war cry. Taking down two of the agents, they both let out gunfire before they went out, alerting the rest of the Kobra agents outside.
"What is he-" Aqualad was interrupted by a roaring beast crashing through the glass window.
Wonder Boy, Aqualad and Superboy fell with the beast, and they all landed on their feet, ready to confront this monster. Just like Desmond, but he was different. This guy has a lighter shade and more hair than Desmond.
"Destroy them." Kobra ordered.
Superboy and Wonder Boy tag teamed this big Blockbuster 2.0 while Aqualad saw to the Kobra agents. Switching to his water shield he peaked out a water blaster to pick off the agents one by one.
Bane stood behind the sidelines, chuckled at their situation and left the team to do their work.
Sportsmaster and Kobra approached the scene. Above them was Miss Martian but Sportsmaster felt her presence and noticed soldiers getting levitated into the air. Pulling out a spear he threw it at Miss Martian. Miss martian still cloaked dodged it but it exploded in her proximity.
Falling onto the chemical silos Miss martian was left stunned by the blast. Just then Robin came running down the terrace with Supergirl and Kid Flash. They looked to see Aqualad being pinned down and Superboy and Wonder Boy taking a beating from that creature. Wasting no time Kid Flash and Supergirl rushed down to help their friends Robin, on the other hand, sees an opportunity and takes his leave, again.
Aqualad is pushed to cover, however, a team was behind him too. Quickly they were kicked out of the way thanks to Kid-Flash.
The creature stunned Superboy leaving Wonder Boy alone to fight it and he was losing badly. The creature punched him to the ground and prepared another punch. Luckily Supergirl quickly punched the creature off Wonder Boy. With the creature off Supergirl flew down to superboy and helped him up. "Thanks."
"My pleasure." Supergirl responded.
Despite the backup, the enemies weren't relenting reinforcements pinned down Aqualad and Kid Flash, while the beast wasn't going down anytime soon.
"Miss Martian the radio is jammed! Link us up!" Aqualad yelled.
Miss Martian still shook up from the blast complied and established a telepathic link between the entire team.
"Everyone online?" Miss Martian asked.
"Yeah." Superboy responded.
"You know it beautiful." Kid Flash called.
"I'm here." Supergirl answered.
"Loud and clear." Wonder Boy confirmed.
"Good, we need to regroup." Aqualad advised..
"Busy now." Miss Martian finalized.
"Hey where's Robin?" Wonder Boy asked.
Outside the warehouse, Robin landed in front of the helicopter confronting the Kobra leader.
"Batman must be desperate if he sends his whelp to task me," Kobra said unimpressed with Robin.
"What's wrong, Koby? You look disconcerted." Robin mocked.
"This is beneath me. Shimmer, take him." Kobra ordered.
Shimmer then charged at Robin but he easily jumped over her, "Robin, now." Aqualad called to Robin. Robin then threw a flashbang on the ground blinding her and Kobra to make his exit.
Back inside the warehouse, the team were doing their best to keep fighting but they were all getting exhausted so they needed to retreat and regroup.
"Strategic retreat. Kid, clear a path." Aqualad said in his mind.
Kid Flash did as instructed, clearing the path. With the path open the team made their way to the door out.
Superboy was one of the last to enter because he had to deal with their Blockbuster 2.0, but he was able to fend him off in time thanks to Wonder Boy's hard punch to the ground along with a few Kobra agents crashing into the big guy.
"Let's go." Wonder Boy said.
The two quickly followed behind the others then shut the blast door locking it and ran for it. It didn't even take a second for Kobra to break down the doors.
"Superboy, Supergirl, Wonder Boy the support beams!" Aqualad called to the three.
The three broke down the support beams as instructed and the walls behind them collapsed giving them an advantage in their escape. With the way sealed Kobra soldiers couldn't follow them.
Popping out a red light stick, Robin looked back at the events that lead to their current position, "How could my first mission as leader go so wrong?"
"You do have the most experience, but perhaps that is exactly what has left you unprepared. Fighting alongside Batman, your roles are defined. You two do not need total talk."
"But this team is new, and a leader must keep his team… Well… Clear on their objectives." Wonder Boy added.
"And he cannot vanish and expect others to play parts in an unknown plan." Aqualad finished.
"Oh so I'm supposed to hold everyone's hands." Robin groaned, "Ah who am I kidding? You should lead us, Kaldur. You're the only one who can."
"Please, I can run circles-" Kid Flash was interrupted by Robin.
"Wally, come on. You know he's the one. We all do." Robin admitted.
"Hello, Megan. It's so obvious." Megan called.
"Could have told you." Superboy said.
"We told you." Wonder Boy assured beside Supergirl.
"Sure did." Supergirl nodded in response.
Kid Flash put his hands on his hips and smiled. "Okay."
"Then I accept the burden, until you are ready to lift it from my shoulders. You were born to lead this team. Maybe not now, but soon." Aqualad held a hand on Robin's shoulder.
"Alright, our first priority is preventing that shipment from leaving the island." Aquaman's orders were clear.
"Funny, I had the same thought." Robin smiled.
"So question, the guy in the mask, he's the buyer?" Wonder Boy asked as the team was making their way to the exit.
"Sportsmaster is the supplier-slash-buyer, but it still doesn't track. He doesn't have the juice to acquire the blockbuster formula, or to get Kobra to do his dirty work."
"And neither of them have the chops to bond blockbuster with venom. That took some major nerdage." Kid Flash added to Robin's case.
"I believe the expression is 'tip of the iceberg'." Aqualad explained as they reached the exit.
Bane stood between them and the exit, "Halt, ninos. I'm feeling explosive." He held a detonator and remote bombs lit up above the team. "You betrayed us, why?" Aqualad asked.
"I want my factory back." Bane stated.
"Kid, you'll need a running start." Aqualad said to Kid Flash in his mind.
"So I forced you into a position where you would either take down my enemies or die trying. If the latter, the Justice League would certainly have come to avenge their sidekicks. And when the smoke cleared, Santa Prisca would be mine once more. Blowing the tunnel with you inside should have the same effect." Bane was about to press the button, but he suddenly found his detonator no longer in his hand.
"With what? This trigger thingy?" Kid Flash showed him the detonator.
Bane roared as he was about to throw a punch at him, but he was floating off in the air. Miss Martian held him in the air while Superboy and Supergirl readied their punches, "Let's do it, Supergirl, drop him." Superboy told Miss Martian, and complied. Next Bane knew he was getting punched by two Kryptonians.
"That was awesome, hey I may have an idea on stopping the shipment, but getting there will be up to you Aqualad." Wonder Boy removed one of the remote bombs.
The chopper was about to take off with Sportsmaster approaching his exfil. Kid Flash stopped the Kobra agents in line and focused their fire on him.
Reinforcements were arriving to protect the chopper but Superboy and Wonder Boy kept the rest busy with a sudden drop from the sky, he saw the Blockbuster 2.0, and smiled, "Go again?"
He roared again as he charged straight for the two but a gush of water threw him away," Sorry. Not the plan."
"Maybe next time." Wonder Boy responded.
From behind Sportsmaster walked over with a makeshift crossbow gun, and shot rounds at the two. Superboy can take, but Wonder Boy did have one weapon he did not take for granted. Sportsmaster fired at Wonder Boy repeatedly but he blocked every one of Sportsmasters blasts with his bracers.
Keeping him occupied, Miss Martian snuck into the chopper. She was about to sneak up on him, but he could tell something was up. Dodging the attack, he held Miss Martian at gun-point. Wonder Boy and Superboy were buried in gunfire and unable to move.
Kid Flash punched another Kobra agent and nicked off his mask, "Souvenir!" Then ran off.
Shimmer then was roped from behind and out of the fight. Behind Kobra was Robin, and Supergirl, "I know you hate getting your hands dirty."
"True, but sometimes, even a God must stoop to conquer." Kobra removed his hood and showed off his silvery pale and ripped body.
Robin charged at Kobra and delivered a kick to the side of his face, but Kobra easily blocked it with little effort. Robin attempted a leg sweep and another kick to the face both which were dodged or deflected by Kobra. Kobra then kicked the Boy Wonder who landed on his feet.
"What's wrong, boy. You look disconcerted." Kobra asked.
Supergirl cracked her knuckles. "Ok, my turn."
Supergirl leaped at Kobra who easily dodged her and attacked her with a high kick which sent her face first into the soil.
"Nice try." Kobra brushed off his shoulder.
Kid Flash resumed picking off the armed Kobra agents with his super speed, while Aqualad kept the monster at bay. Aqualad sprayed the creature with a huge amount of water using his water bearers. Using one of his Eel fangs, he sent an electric current through the water which created an electrical current that was enough to take out the creature.
Wonder Boy and Superboy were still trying to save Miss Martian but it was hard with Sportsmaster firing on them repeatedly.
"Thanks for the workout, but I gotta fly." Sportsmaster threw Miss Martian over to Superboy and Wonder Boy and she fell on top of them both. The Helicopter then started up and took off but none of them were worried. Miss Martian gave a nod while Wonder Boy smirked as he pulled out the detonator and then pressed the button.
The explosion rocked the entire chopper, sending it falling into the factory with a flurry of fire and explosives.
Kobra threw Robin to the ground and held Supergirl by the throat, "I am plagued by mosquitoes."
"Good, cause these mosquitoes are mighty concerted over your pain." Robin broke out of Kobras grip and Supergirl flew out of his hold.
Kobra is now confronted by the entire team.
"May as well surrender now Kobra because you are way out of your league here." Wonder Boy stated.
"Not today, boy." Kobra backed into the jungle. Robin chased over but Kobra is already long gone.
Robin walked and watched as the venom factory burned in front of them.
"We are so gonna get it when we get back." Supergirl said.
"Yeah, but we definitely picked the right guy to lead." Robin smiled, pacing a hand on Kaldurs shoulder. "Automatically making you the right guy to explain this mess to batman." he held his hands and laughed.
Mt. Justice
The entire team was lined up as Batman scolded them for disobeying orders, "A simple recon mission, observe and report. You'll each receive a written evaluation detailing your many mistakes. Until then, good job."
Every member of the team looked at Batman in surprise, they disobeyed orders and he was congratulating them.
"No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy. How you adjust to the unforeseen is what determines success. And how you chose leads determines character." Batman smiled a smidgen under his demeanor and cowl, and took his leave.
The team looked at each other in awe, "We did it!" Supergirl cheered loudly grabbing Trevor into a tight hug (too tight).
Everyone noticed Trevor turning red, but they were not sure if it was because of Kara herself or if she's just squeezing him too tight. Kara then released Trevor who breathed heavily. "Wow that was a strong hold." he shook out any remaining strains in his muscles.
"We picked the right leader." Robin patted Aqualad's shoulder.
"Shame we all had to get yelled at." Superboy added.
"I'd say it was worth it." Aqualad nodded.
"Well beautiful we did a great job you and I." Kid Flash made another attempt at flirting with Megan.
"I don't know what's more pathetic Wally's attempts at flirting with M'gann or if he thinks he has a chance with her." Trevor whispered to Kara.
"Both probably." Kara answered.
"Oh and you hugging Wonder Boy is justified how?" Kid Flash rebounded the burn.
"Oh c'mon Wally they're not flirting. They're just being kids, it's adorable."
"Hey don't call me adorable, I'm a ferocious warrior." Trevor blushed.
"An adorable ferocious warrior?" Megan added.
Trevor paused at the words, and then groaned. "Fine… I better get home." he quickly took his leave.
Washington - Trevor Family Penthouse
After a night-long mission, Trevor was glad to be home, he opened the front door to his apartment and entered then threw his hoodie aside. Walking down the hall he found his dad having supper with an ice-cold beer while watching TV.
"Dad?"
"Hey son!" Steven got up and ran over to his son giving him a hug, "I saved you a plate in the fridge if you're hungry."
"Thanks," Trevor walked over the fridge and opened the door pulling out the plate. "Where's Mom?"
"Oh you know her, out there as always something's out there endangering lives." Steve said
"Like me and my team. Our mission was amazing." Trevor said sitting down on the couch, placing the plate on the coffee table.
"So…how was your mission, did anything exciting happen?" Steve asked.
"The team and I destroyed a large factory manufacturing an enhanced super soldier venom that would be used to make an army powerful enough to kill the Justice League." Trevor answered as he ate. "How's that for exciting?"
Trevor took a swig of the orange juice he poured.
"Wow! I am both impressed and incredibly worried. Most kids your age should be in school or having fun not going on dangerous missions."
"Well I'm not like most kids." Trevor said then took another bite from his food. "I'm part god, part amazon, and part human."
"Yes… but you're still a kid." Steven reminded.
"Well, what do you want me to do?" Trevor asked.
"I'm sorry. Look I understand this team and following in your mom's footsteps means the world to you and it makes me proud to see you using your powers to make the world a better place. But try to enjoy the world while you have the time. Before I met your mother I spent all my time working, she reminded me that life is too short to just focus on work. Ever since you became Wonder Boy you've focused more on fighting evil than living your life."
"This is what I've wanted to do for as long as I could remember." Trevor replied.
"I know, just remember to enjoy your other life too." Steven suggested.
"Yeah, sorry dad." Trevor looked over at what his dad is watching, "Top Gun!" Trevor shrieked.
After some time into watching one of their favorite movies as father and son, the front door suddenly opened and Diana walked in.
"Mom!" Trevor jumped from his seat.
"Hello Wonder Boy, I read an interesting report today." Diana was setting up her tone, ready for a scold.
"Batman filled you in on the mission?" Trevor asked.
Diana took a set next to Trevor. "Yes, and I'm so proud of you. You did a great job!"
Trevor was relieved from hearing that, and rushed to give her a hug.
Trevor let out a yawn which Diana took notice of. "OK, I think you should get some sleep."
"Duly noted Wonder Woman." Trevor said sarcastically then got up to get some rest.
"Is it wrong to wish he'd put this much effort into being a kid his age?" Steven asked.
"Not sure, but I understand your concern." Diana took her seat beside her husband and noticed a glum look he had. "Stevie what's wrong."
"Sorry… it's just that, while I'm happy that you and Trevor are fighting the good fight, it's just that we don't really spend much time together anymore. There's always some evil villain out there causing trouble so you or Trevor has to go out and battle it. I'm just missing the old days when we used to have more time together." Steven explained somberly.
Diana understood what Steve was saying there a lot of times that she just wanted to hang up the suit at least for a weekend but the opportunity could never present itself, "I miss that too." Diana sighed.
"You know why don't you try talking to your mother about hosting a new challenge for someone new to take up the mantle?" Steven suggested.
"I could but there are too many variables for that to work out, the time needed to prepare a tournament, and how much training would be needed for a new owner Woman. Not to mention the Justice League, besides in case you forgot we've tried that before and it didn't work out." Diana started.
"Right, what was her name again?" Steve asked.
"Orana." Diana answered, and let out another sigh, "Before Trevor was born, I really wanted to live a normal life, with you, and raise our infant son. So my mother held a tournament in Themyscira and Orana won, it never occurred to me that even though she was strong it didn't mean she should be my successor."
"Yeah, she was a skilled fighter but she did not do a good job as your replacement." Steve commented. "I mean you remember all the stuff that happened when she was you for two weeks?"
"Yes I do," Diana answered.
"Whatever happened to her anyway?" Steve asked.
"I don't know, when I took the mantle back she disappeared."
"OK. Look I'm sure we'll find a day where we can do just be a family." Steve huffed up in confidence, "For now let's do what we do best."
"I love you Steven Trevor."
"Love you too Angel."
Trevor could hear what his parents were saying and he too wished the same thing. One of these days a family outing would be a dream come true. "That would be nice."
