As Cactus put on the necklace, the two Peccaries stepped into the yard, it was deadly quiet.
"Are any of the scientists...Going to meet us?" Cactus asked
"Probobly not until tomorrow given how late it is," G said
Just then, Cactus' stomach rumbled "I'm hungry." She said remembering she had, had very little to eat today because of how hot it was that day, here in Dallas it felt much cooler.
G smiled "Come," He said "We can talk over snacks."
Cactus followed her Father to the doors of the immense building where he pulled out of his pocket some keys to open the door.
"Just follow me to the kitchen," G said "Have you ever had goat cheese?"
"No." Cactus said feeling in awe and intimidated by this lab.
"I'll show you one of my treats then," G said "I remember well, it was my love of food that led me to becoming a Mutant, one night as a normal Peccary I was wandering the desert looking for food, I found a juicy red tomato, something I had never found before out in the wilderness, of course wild animals don't have a way of knowing when something is too good to be true, next thing I know a trap springs all around me! I'm suddenly in a cage! And soon some humans pick me up and put me in a truck with several other animals they've captured, the Scientists wanted a variety of creatures to choose their test subject from, eventually they chose me, because Peccaries are tough and adaptable."
Finally they entered the kitchen, G turned on the light, it looked like any other workplace kitchen.
G opened the fridge and pulled out a tupperware container that held part of log of goat cheese he had opened a few days ago.
Cactus knew she liked cheese pizza, but she knew that cheese was mozzarella, she had heard about goat cheese but never actually seen any.
G opened the container, and Cactus sniffed at the contents within.
G handed her a fork "Take a bite." He said
Cactus took a tiny little crumb of cheese and popped it in her mouth "Interesting..." She said "...It's...Kind...Sour."
"Lemmony?" G said "Maybe you'll like it better with some honey on it."
G went to the kitchen cupboard and pulled out a container of clover honey, one of those squeezable containers shaped like a bear.
"I find honey is the perfect compliment for goat cheese." G said "Just drizzle some honey on it and you turn it into a nice sweet dessert nicer than most candies."
Trying some crumbs of goat cheese drizzles in honey, Cactus had to agree honey really did improve it.
So as they two of them sat and ate, Cactus explained more about what this place was "This Lab was created during the Height of the Cold War, most of the scientists believing the world was doomed to Apocolyptic destruction, they believed their only hope of survival was to escape to another dimenstion thus began their long work on delveloping a portal, which the finally finished around the mid-80s all they needed was a test subject, because what were they going to do, risk their own lives?" He said with a scoff "But by the time I traveled to Mizzer, married your mother...But by that time it was the beginning of the 90s the Berlin Wall fell and the reserch into alternate dimenstions was no longer needed..."
Been getting into the classic Planet of the Apes, the sequels had some wacky twists and turns like a secret society of Mutant Humans worshipping an atom bomb!
