Written in the memory of the Son of Apollo Halcyon Green, who advised me to read up on the old stories as it would help me with my destiny, which was true. Please read 'The Tales of...' stories if you haven't yet.

78. Althaea

A/N: This is not The Tales of version of Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods or Percy Jackson and the Greek Heroes, but rather The Tales of version of a book I got of Greek and Roman Mythology I got in Rome Italy. The settings will be after 'The Tales of the Heroes of Olympus: The Blood of Olympus' so please read that before getting in this story. Think of this story as something to pass by until The Trials of Apollo books.

Althaea

Now to be fair,, what is now known as the Meleager curse was consider a curse before the first bearer of the curse met his own fate by his mother; Althaea. But it doesn't excuse Althea from being the cause of her own son's death.

Althaea was the wife of Ocneus and mother of Deianeira and the original curse bearer Meleager. When Meleager was seven days old, the Fates predicted that he would die if the log which was then burning on the hearth was burnt to ashes. Althaea immediately put it out and hid it in a chest. Other stories say this log was an olive branch to which Althaea had given birth at the same time as her son. Although judging from how Frank's mom and grandmother found out it probably was just a log to start with that the Fates decide to tie Meleanger's life too.

During the hunt in Calydon Meleager killed Althaea's brothers. In her anger she threw on the fire the log on which her son's life depended. Meleager instantly died, and in her despair Althaea hanged herself.

Some stories say that the children of Althaea were not the sons of Ocnsus, but that Meleager was the son of Ares and Deianeira, the daughter of Dionysus. The latter had fallen in love with Althaea, and Ocneus, who had become aware of it, lent him his wife. In In gratitude the god gave him a plan of a vineyard and showed him how to use it for cultivation of the vine.

All I can say this is most likely true for Frank got the curse because he was so powerful his soul would burn up if not linked to a piece of wood, so Meleager had to be powerful himself to be the original bearer. Unlike Meleager though, I'm sure Frank has his piece of wood in a safe place.

Next is someone I see as a friend of mine who once nurse Zeus while Rhea had to hide him from his own father.
