A/N: This is not The Tales of version of Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods or Percy Jackson and the Greek Heroes, but rather The Tales of version of a book I got of Greek and Roman Mythology I got in Rome Italy. The settings will be after 'The Tales of the Heroes of Olympus: The Blood of Olympus' so please read that before getting in this story. Think of this story as something to pass by until The Trials of Apollo books.
Amphiaraus
Remember Alcmaeon, the guy who had to take on the expedition of Thebes to avenge his father? Well now we get to the father.
Amphiaraus was the son of Oecles and Hypermestra. His sons were of course Alcmaeon and Amphilochus, and in some stories Tiburtus, Coras, and Catillus.
Amphiaraus was a seer beloved of Zeus and Apollo, and a warrior. He was renowned for his integrity courage and piety. At the beginning of his reign of Argos he had killed Talaus and driven out Adrastus, but later tried to patch up the quarrel. Adrastus gave him his sister Eriphyle in marriage, stipulating that she should settle any dispute between them. When Adrastus promised to restore Polynices to the throne of Thebes he asked Amphiarus to join the expedition. Being a seer, Amphiaraus predicted the disastrous outcome of the expedition, and tried to dissuade Adrastus, but Polynices bribed Eriphyle with the necklace of Harmonia, and she pronounced in favor of the war. Bound by his promise, Amphiaraus marched on Thebes, but made his sons swear to avenge him by killing Eriphyle and raising a second expedition against Thebes.
On the road to Thebes they witnessed the uncanny death of the infant Opheltes. Amphiaraus explained that this was an omen that the expedition would fail and that the chiefs would die, but, after founding the Nemean Games in honor of Opheltes, whom they called Archemorus, they continued on their won prizes for jumping and throwing the discus in these games.
At Thebes Amphiaraus killed Melanippus. In the rout which marked the end of the campaign, Amphairaus fled to the banks of the Ismenus. Just as he was about to be attacked by Periclymenus, Zeus caused the earth to swallow Amphiaraus up. Zeus granted Amphiaraus immortality and he continued to utter oracles at Oropus to Attica.
For anyone that read Almaeon know about his sons taking revenge for their father.
