Chapter 9

Normal POV

1 week Later

Wednesday

3:15pm

After officially meeting his daughter Duncan got into full dad mode overnight.

Duncan arrived the day after to walk to school with Serenity and Courtney, it mostly excited his daughter but surprised her mother who tends to keep her guard up in case something happens. Courtney has been feeling uneasy, other then wanting to be a good father it was Duncan's confession that he still loved her was the uneasy part.

They discussed visitation which was organized and handled easily between them but when it came to finances it triggered her. Duncan mentioned that he didn't want Courtney working at Barcode anymore and offered to cover everything she refused due to it feeling like a handout making them argue.

Duncan's reason for wanting to help was for missing out on the years that he should of been responsible to provide everything that was needed for their daughter and to make it easier for Courtney. He wanted to be a good dad, not like others who run away or don't give a damn if they have a kid being left to be raised by one parent.

Courtney's comeback for the argument was that she didn't want to rely on him to pay for everything due to the fact that so many parents/guardians are demanding, selfish and vile to the provider. But also she grew to be independent without relying on anyone.The last part was she has a steady schedule set so that she could balance going to school in the day, work weekends and taking care of Serenity.

They argued for sometime but they weren't going to display that in front of their daughter.

Serenity was already attached to her dad. She constantly wanted to talk to him on the phone, see him, she definitely was daddy's little girl.

Lastly Duncan mentioned to Courtney that he told his mom about her granddaughter and would like to set up a day for not only meeting Serenity but her as well. It made Courtney nervous that his mom wanted to meet but when asking about Duncans dad his answer was " when he isn't being a douchebag".

Other then that they both agreed on the important matter that they wanted to keep their daughters life balanced and normal.

Courtney and Serenity were walking to Duncan's auto-shop, normally her classes were done by the time preschool was over but today Courtney's last class had to be rescheduled for tonight so she asked Duncan if he could watch their daughter.

" Are you excited to spend time with daddy? " asks Courtney looking at Serenity who clearly expressed excitement, " yeah " she answers smiling brightly " mommy what daddy do? " she asks looking up at me.

" Well he is a mechanic " Courtney answers " which means he fixes and builds cars " she explained recalling Duncan discussed that he had his own auto-shop now.

Courtney wasn't able to say it out loud but she was proud of him and knew he could make something of himself.

" Wow " gasps Serenity with an amazed expression making Courtney giggle" right daddy has come quite the long way " she whispered as random memories from when they were first teammates, their constant bickering, him teasing her, flirting to when they officially started dating.

Courtney still couldn't understand as to why Duncan didn't want anyone to show his other side, deep down she knew there was good in him. Maybe it was for that reason is why she fell in love with him, along with his bad boy side.

Not realizing her cheeks were turning red as her mind wandered, " mommy you red " points Serenity at her face making Courtney stop walking " you okay mommy? " she asks looking at her curiously.

" Oh uh yes honey mommy is all good...and look we're just about there " Courtney points seeing there destination coming up and good thing too because there was no way she could explain why her face was red.

Approaching the crosswalk " now honey as soon as your with daddy you need to listen to him and be on your best behaviour " explains Courtney pressing the button to cross " no getting into trouble " she adds expressing a serious face.

" Yes mommy " answers Serenity gripping her backpack strap nervously knowing well, " okay be a big girl now " said Courtney before they were to cross the street.

It was making Courtney nervous leaving Serenity with Duncan at his shop but she knew their daughter was going to be safe especially knowing he wouldn't let any harm come to her.

Seeing the big navy blue building ahead a couple vehicles were on display with custom work in front of the shop, catching both Courtney and Serenity's eyes.

Letting go of her moms hand Serenity ran to one of the cars, " cool " said Serenity touching the cars bumper, " yeah its neat isn't it " replies Courtney looking at the paint job along with noticing a few skulls painted on, " Duncans signature skull " she whispered smiling recognizing his mark.

" Admiring the work I see " said someone from behind them.

Duncan's POV

3:00

I was working on a custom motor for a client that was restoring an old car only thing he asks it to go fast.

I needed to get most of my bigger jobs done for the day since I was going to be watching Serenity while Courtney had a class tonight.

If there's something that hasn't changed about her is that she was still uptight and stubborn, I keep offering her financial help so that she didn't have to work at that club anymore. After witnessing how that jerk grabbed her I didn't like it one bit, she assured me that it's the only time it's happened.

I didn't like anyone disrespecting let alone touching Courtney, she was too good to be working in a place like that which is why I want her to quit and rely on me for now on.

Plus it's because of me she had to put aside everything, I still want to know what happened while I was gone but all in good time I guess.

Putting my wrench down to look up at the clock noticing Courtney will be arriving soon.

" Alright I'll continue this in a bit " I said looking at the motor before rushing to my office to make sure it was organized.

Walking inside my office I thought it was less trashed then usual but today it was a disaster I had papers, boxes with parts and even garbage everywhere. " When did I become a slob? " I thought to myself quickly running around picking up everything.

Rushing around so it was decent I failed to notice Marco looking amused standing at the open door " if your gonna stand there why not help take those parts back to the supply room mule " I ordered picking up garbage.

( AN: character description: Mid 50's, he's considered a wise guy in good ways. He grey thick hair that's always combed back, a moustache, has a medium burly body shape. Marcos nickname is mule)

While picking up boxes Marco speaks " I came to tell you that those cars have been put up front for display " he says picking up a box, " perfect " I answered hoping that custom work on them catches the eye of more customers.

Just as Marco was about to leave Tye comes in " so when is your baby mama arriving? " he asks walking in. Rolling my eyes at the question " any minute " I replied which made me look at the clock again " woah what baby mama? " asks Marco shocked.

Groaning I turn to look at the two, " long long long story short I got my girlfriend pregnant before I went to jail and now I have a 3 year old daughter the end " I said quickly tying a knot on a garbage bag, " welcome to fatherhood Duncan " replies Marco smiling before walking out.

" You seem uneasy boss " said Tye picking up papers from the floor, " a bit mostly because Courtney is still refusing my help " I answer organizing my desk " she might still be processing things " replies Tye surprising me with his answer " that's probably the wisest yet smartest thing you've said " I said finishing tidying my desk.

" I'm not just a funny guy I can be serious too" replied Tye looking serious " yeah right your dying to ask if he's made a move on mama " said Tony standing by the door.

There it is.

Looking back at the two I simply just shake my head " no but I did confess that I still love her " I answered walking over to the coffee table and small couch in the corner.

Tye and Tony look at each other in shock " woah what you said what!! " they said together smiling making me grunt " you heard me but it's going to take time " I explain grabbing more papers from the couch, god it was awkward telling these two anything.

" And here I thought all this time you were just a pervert that was a pantie chaser " said Tye looking disappointed this time both myself and Tony grabbed the nearest object we could find and threw it at him. I found an empty plastic bottle and Tony got an empty box.

Tyes attempt at dodging sucked " You know I'm gonna staple your mouth someday " said Tony putting his twin in a headlock only to make me laugh watching them, " oh hey Marco is out front " breaths Tye pointing trying to get out of his brothers wrath.

Raising my brows I walk to the front to hear Marco...

" Admiring the work I see "

As I arrived standing by the cars on display was Courtney and Serenity with her hands on the bumper.

" Daddy " squeaks Serenity running straight towards me making smile, " hey sweetie " I answer crouching down to receive a hug, " how are you? " I ask parting from the hug " good " she answers smiling at me.

Serenity has brought a new bright side to my life, Geoff and DJ were right I do have a great kid. Whenever she calls me it's an endless conversation of her day at preschool, Duncan deer ( still hope she changes the name) and lastly saying how she misses me.

If this was parenthood then I don't think I'd want it to change, I want to enjoy every moment I can.

Looking up Courtney is standing quietly while smiling at us. Picking up Serenity as I stand up, " hi...how's your day? " I asked " it's good just I'm not a fan of my class being tonight " answers Courtney looking to the side " oh before I forget I have something for you " she adds opening her purse.

Raising my brows as she pulls out a form " its a parental contact form in case the school can't reach me they can also contact you " explains Courtney holding the paper.

" Alrighty sounds fun " I answered taking the form" also just a few things before I go" said Courtney looking worried " let me guess rules " I sigh only to receive a stern look " okay let's go into my office " I replied walking in.

Looking back at Courtney her eyes kept looking around everywhere I'm guessing she was impressed, hopefully this shows her I'm capable of helping.

Using one hand I gesture for her to enter my office first followed by myself, putting Serenity down I turn to meet eyes with Courtney, " Alright I'm all ears " I said waiting to hear her rules.

" First here are my keys to the apartment " she states showing me them " second healthy snacks only no sugary snacks or junk food " she warns pulling out snack bags filled with carrot and celery sticks along with apple wedges " yum " I state as Courtney puts them in my hands.

" Dinner is at 5:00 and bedtime is 7:30 so please make sure she's bathed and in pjs before that time " she explains sounding serious " got it I can handle it " I answer already not liking the rules " Duncan I'm serious " said Courtney crossing her arms, " I am too but it's a little strict don't you think? " I ask only to get an eye roll from her.

" She's at a very critical age where development and learning are important " explained Courtney now it was my turn to do an eye roll " I'm just saying maybe loosen it a bit and let her be a kid " I said only to receive that famous glare of hers when she gets pissed especially when I would do or say something stupid.

Just as she was about to say something...

" mommy daddy "

Both of us turn to look at our daughter who most likely was watching us " you okay? " she asks looking uneasy and nervous which by the expression on Courtney's face she's never seen before.

" Yes honey we were just talking about something before I go " explains Courtney as we walk over to her " yeah mommy was just telling me important things " I say to back up Courtney.

Exhaling we both look at each other for a moment realizing our arguments can't take place in front of Serenity, cause she clearly can pick up when things get tense between us.

" I better head out " sighs Courtney " okay be a good girl for daddy and I'll see you later okay " she says looking at our daughter " okay mommy " said Serenity giving her mom a hug, which I myself could do as well.

We stand by the door afterwards " okay I'll respect and follow the rules you got set " I said scratching my neck " thank you...we should talk when I get back " she says making me look up " alright I'll see you tonight " I answer looking at her, " lastly I have a little card in her backpack with medical information " explained Courtney.

" Good to know " I reply " don't worry if a little crying happens or if a mild breakdown occurs " she said checking her phone, " I hardly doubt Serenity will do either " I respond looking confused but when Courtney looks back at me smiling " I was referring to you " she said before walking towards the entrance.

Watching her walk I then got it that it was a joke and also a way to cut the tension, but along I couldn't help checking her out she was still hot.

Courtney was serious through most times on TDI but her humour was awesome. " I'm glad she's still funny " I whisper looking back at Serenity who was currently playing with a car part that I had no clue where she found.

Quickly waking over to her I pick up the part " hey let's not play with that " I said noticing her backpack that she still had on " do you have any homework to do? " I asked helping her take the backpack off " no homework daddy " she says only to make me realize that preschoolers don't get homework.

Chuckling at what I was thinking " geez daddy isn't having the best start is he? " I ask only to see Serenity shake her head while giggling.

Checking inside her backpack I found crayons and a colouring book, " bingo...alright honey " I said placing them on the coffee table " daddy has to work on something for a little bit and then we're gonna go home okay" I explained as she came to the table.

" Okay daddy " answered Serenity opening her colouring book " also you have to stay in daddy's office okay no leaving " I explained only to get a nod from her, " alright be back in a bit " I add before going back to work.

30 minutes later

Myself and Marco were working on the motor I was working on earlier, it still has more things to be done and could possibly take longer to fix.

" Boy this might take longer than I thought " I said seeing that parts are going to be needed " yeah especially if he wants it to go fast " said Marco looking at the motor designs.

" Daddy "

My eyes open up hearing Serenity and when I turned there she was looking up at me, " honey I told you to stay in my office you could get hurt here" I said kneeling in front of her " but I need to go potty bad " she whines pressing her legs together " Oh okay " I reply quickly picking her up " keep going Marco " I add before running off.

Once I made it to the staff room I rushed Serenity to the bathroom and let her use it on her own which to my relief she was capable of.

I waited outside the door quietly just then Tony walks into the room with a box, " I got the doughnuts " he announces putting them on the table " nice " I said opening to see all sorted types including cream filled. " So what are doing here I thought you were working on a motor " said Tony washing his hands.

" Little miss needed the bathroom " I answer looking back at the slightly opened door " oh yeah I remember those times my son pissed on my hand once " sighs Tony just as I was about to say something the bathroom door opened " daddy done " announced Serenity walking out. Picking her up again I was about to walk out til " mmmm doughnut " she said smiling at the box.

" Uh oh she's seen them " teases Tony while fixing himself a cup of coffee. Apart of me was saying thinking back to the rules Courtney had laid out amongst them was...

" no sugary snacks or junk food "

I mean one wouldn't hurt but even so, maybe if I let her have half of one it won't kill her.

" Alright but don't tell mommy deal " I said looking at her " deal " she repeats even though she might not know what that means " okay pick one " I replied putting her in a chair to stand on.

Serenity's POV

Mmmmmmmm...doughnuts!!!

I can't pick just one!!! I want all of them!!!!!!

Looking up at daddy I just kept smiling, mommy would not let me have sweet things but maybe daddy will.

" I don't know " I said not being able to make up my mind everything looks so tasty.

" Only one and I'm letting you have half " says daddy making me do that thing with my lip " aw daddy " I huff staring at him.

" Sorry honey half only " he says just as he was going to say something someone else comes in.

" Hey that motor you were working on needs to get looked at Marco says there's another issue " said the man.

Daddy gets makes a weird sound kinda like a bear, " okay one second " he says looking at me " Serenity pick one doughnut and I'll be right back " he explains following the other people.

" Hmph " I breath, I was getting cranky with daddy I wanted to be with him today. Mommy said he would be with me all day after he was done being a meganic or was it car fix man?

( AN: definitely wanted Serenity to shine a little today )

Grownups are weird people.

Looking back at the box of doughnuts my brain was making me think...

I was alone here in this room, no grownups, and doughnuts...

Daddy said to pick one but he never said I could try each one, it was better then the orange ( carrot) and green ( celery ) sticks that mommy gave him.

( AN: can you tell she's Duncan's lol )

I saw a cup next to me and it had black stuff in it. Carefully picking up the cup it was warm slowly I sip it lightly, " ew yucky " I spoke putting the cup down.

Again grownups drink weird stuff, I think mommy drinks it too she says it wakes her up.

I do feel a bit funny from a sip of that weird stuff what was it called again?

Looking back at the doughnuts I see more then normal and I start smiling, " mmmm " I hum picking up one and biting it then I pick up another and bite it then another.

They all taste so good, but the chocolate was the best one.

I also couldn't stop smiling I was so happy and excited right now, as I bit the last doughnut it made a mess cause red stuff was on the other doughnuts.

While chewing I needed a drink so I grabbed the yucky drink again this time I took a big drink...

" Oh no " said a voice making me look at the man who was with daddy " slowly put the coffee on the table " he says.

" THAT'S WHAT IT'S CALLED!!! " I scream jumping down from the chair " COFFEE!!! " I began running to the door but steps in front of me.

" Calm down now little one let's not get wild " he said making me laugh " just stay here til daddy gets back " he adds.

" BORING LETS PLAY TAG YOUR IT " I say before tagging him then running off " YOUR IT YOUR IT!!!! " I announce feeling very good and happy.

Duncan's POV

I needed to look at this motor quickly and get back to Serenity, it probably wasn't wise to leave her alone but she listens well.

Looking at the area where the issue was it turns out that there's a crack, meaning it's gonna need to get replaced.

" Yeah looks like another new area that needs to be changed " I sighed grabbing a notepad from the tool chest.

Just then I hear hysteric giggling and two sets of running feet, making me raise an eyebrow.

I sent Tony to go check on Serenity and to give her half a doughnut of her choosing but something tells me it didn't go that way.

" No no no don't go that way " he says running as if he was chasing something or someone, " what the hell? " says Marco standing next to me, " exactly what I was going to say " I replied just then what looked like a faint blur kinda what the flash would look like but upon looking closer I see my daughter running through the shop.

Quickly running to where she was running I get to where she's going getting in her way.

" HI DADDY!!! " she laughs looking at me with her eyes opened up like plates and a smile I won't ever soon forget " I'M SO HAPPY DADDY!!!!" she squeals along with her body shaking.

Tony slowly came up from behind trying to catch his breath " she's so fast " he says looking her " what happened? " I ask keeping my eyes on Serenity in case if she moves I can catch her.

" I walked into the lounge and she ate all the doughnuts " Tony explains making my own eyes open up " all of them?! " I asked now seeing what Serenity was experiencing is a sugar high, " anything else I should know? " I said thinking how pissed Courtney is going to be.

Looking nervous Tony looks at me " she drank my coffee " he answers only to make my mind scream " fuck ".

Damn it sugar and coffee for a little kid is definitely the worst thing I could of imagined. I needed to handle this quick, " hey honey daddy needs you to stop running " I said slowly walking towards her " you need to listen " I add but just as I was about to grab her hand Tye comes out of no where.

" Hey what's going on? " he asks only to make Serenity look at him then run towards him " TAG " she announces making a run towards him but Tye moves out of the way.

I quickly run after Serenity towards the front " why didn't you grab her " said Tony looking at his brother " I just walked in and to ask why the doughnuts are half eaten? " asks Tye watching me run after Serenity.

" SERENITY THIS IS NOT FUNNY!!! " I yell trying to grab her but she was moving really fast thankfully she hasn't bumped into anything yet. She was now headed toward the tire area which probably wasn't good either.

Catching my breath I hear her laughing which sounds a bit evil, kinda like what I did once after I scared everyone. Walking around I look around trying to see where Serenity went or could be hiding " where are you little sugar monster " I called checking in corners and even inside of tires.

Just then I heard movement from behind me, okay getting a bit freaked out now...

Suddenly I heard a faint painful groaning walking towards a station there holding her stomach was Serenity who apparently was feeling the side affects of consuming too much sugar.

" Well looks like someone is learning a lesson " I said going to her " daddy my tummy " she whines not looking so good " yup too much sugar will do that and why mommy doesn't let you have sweets " I answer standing in front of her.

" Oh good you found her " said Tye with Tony right behind him, " yeah " I said about to pick her up but suddenly she brought both hands to her mouth, " you okay sweetie? " I ask only to get the answer in the form of her throwing up the contents of her stomach on the floor. Luckily I stepped back in time.

" Geez it's like the exorcist " said Tye looking at the puddle on the floor, " damn kid how much did you eat? " asks Tony trying to look away at the mixed contents that looked unrecognizable.

" Alright let's get you cleaned up " I said holding my breath so that I don't smell anything, " let's go " I add about to pick up Serenity but as I did she let up one more purge, " mission accomplished " I said picking her up hoping she's done.

Walking back to the front I take my phone out of my pocket, not waiting long the other person picks up.

" Hi mom "

6:00pm

Courtney's apartment

After cleaning up Serenity I took her to a clinic nearby to get checked. The doctor said it was indeed a stomach ache, along with being dehydrated from throwing up and from the higher then normal sugar intake.

A bit of stomach medicine ( gravol ) would help her but to also make sure she ate something easy too.

I was in Courtney's kitchen with my phone on speaker...

Me: you sure this will help mom?

Mom: * laughing lightly* it will I use to make this for you and your brothers when your stomachs went through issues

raising an eyebrow I try to think of what she was referring to..

Me: what are you talking about?

Mom: well if memory serves when you boys had your little eating contests all your stomachs had issues and you end throwing up

Me: * snickers * what we did that?

I glance over to the living room seeing Serenity on the couch looking sad hugging her plush deer, in pyjamas and covered in a blanket

Mom: yes, you boys did. How is she feeling?

Me: she looks better but looking a bit sad

Mom: poor little thing, I think she knows she's in trouble for not listening and feels bad. Did you add the vegetables yet?

I pick up the frozen veggie mix and add it to the pot that currently had low sodium chicken broth boiling. Mom would normally make it by scratch but in my case she gave me a quicker version

Me:Yes, she does know and I'm just adding them now

Mom: Her mother won't be too happy either and I know you will support her on it. It's not easy being parents

Me: * sigh * I agree mom and I did talk to Serenity letting her know what she did was not good, it was quite the car ride

Mom: a lesson not to be forgotten. Oh did you get the ginger ale and let it get flat?

Me: Yes I did, well looks like it's done * turns off stove * Thanks mom for talking and guiding me on parenthood and your soup recipe

Mom: your welcome son, I hope I can meet Serenity and her mother soon

Me: Same, I'll talk to you later.

Mom: alright, have a good night

After hanging up I serve the soup and grab the ginger ale. Going to the living room I sit beside Serenity, " okay I got grandma's famous get better soup" I announce putting the bowl on the coffee table along with the ginger ale.

" Who is gamma? " Serenity asks looking at the bowl.

Picking up the spoon I carefully pick it up " she is daddy's mom " I answer before lightly blowing to cool the soup then carefully bring the spoon to her mouth which she sips lightly, " tasty " she replied.

Smiling at her reaction I continue to give her little by little along with a few sips of ginger ale.

6:30

After consuming a decent amount of soup Serenity sat on my lap with her head resting against my chest, " daddy you have a mommy too? " she asks curiously " yes I do " I answer smiling at the question.

" Is she nice? " asks Serenity looking up at me " yeah she is and knows how to make a tummy ache go away " I answer smoothing her hair " daddy am I in trouble? " she asks in a sad tone which got my chest feeling a bit tight " unfortunately yes and I will have to talk to mommy about it " I explained knowing well how Courtney will react.

Just then we hear the door being unlocked...

" Hello I'm home " announced Courtney from the door " hey we're in here " I answered putting Serenity on the couch before I stood up to go greet her.

As Courtney walks into the living room she can probably notice something is off.

" Is everything okay? How did it go? " she asks looking at me then at Serenity " where do I begin " I breath crossing my arms...

20 minutes later

" and that's everything " I sighed staring at Courtney's shocked expression as I finished telling her the events of today.

Placing her hands on her hips she looks at Serenity who tries to hide behind her deer, " Serenity Maria Preston " stated Courtney walking over to her.

( AN: who remembers parents saying our full names when we were in trouble, I sure do )

" Is what daddy saying true...you ate an entire box of doughnuts, drank coffee and ran wild in his shop? " asks Courtney looking upset which was kinda hot, " I'm waiting for an answer young lady " she says waiting to hear something.

" Yes mommy " sniffles Serenity tears start forming " you were suppose to be a big girl and listen but you didn't " Courtney says as I stand beside her " I'm sorry Serenity but when auntie Bridgette comes to babysit no movies " she adds which got more whimpers and tears come out.

Taking a breath then exhale " I'm gonna agree with mommy " I said surprising Courtney she turns her head to me" it is only fair that the one thing you enjoy be taken away it's a lesson honey " I added even though this was killing me to watch Serenity face the penalty but she has to learn. And I definitely didn't want her making mistakes.

8:00

I stayed til Serenity got put to bed, which was a comfort to her because she asked me to check for monsters under the bed. Once that was done Courtney and I sat on the couch so that we could talk.

Courtney's POV

Sighing heavily I couldn't believe what happened, it did hurt me to punish Serenity but also I was upset at Duncan to have left her alone.

" This day turned out more then I thought? " I said picturing what went on " it was an unexpected turn of events " replies Duncan leaning back on the couch with his arms out, " why did you leave her alone? " I ask crossing my arms turning to look at him.

Facing me Duncan looks at me with a straight expression " like I said I went to go check on something quick " he answers " then I was gonna return to her ".

Shaking my head in disappointment " still you shouldn't have left her alone in the first place" I respond thinking what could of happened if he had not returned.

Rubbing the sides of his head Duncan gets upset" okay your right my mistake for leaving her alone...is that what you wanted to hear me say " he said defensively " geez cut me some slack I took care and gave her my full attention afterwards " Duncan adds making me get irritated.

There it is that attitude of his that would drive me up the wall, he was still the same neanderthal - ogre who's temper that gets him in trouble.

Turning away from him I inhale deeply to calm myself I didn't want to argue anymore especially when Serenity can tell when there's tension between us, which scares her.

I'm gonna be the bigger person this time. Hopefully Duncan gets where I go with this.

Looking back at him " I didn't mean to sound like I was blaming you " I state even though I want to " just you can't leave her alone she gets into mischief very easily " I add hoping this cuts the tension between us " your right about leaving her alone but also I wasn't thinking either " said Duncan staring at the coffee table.

" Also Duncan we can't fight when she's around we both saw how she gets " I mention making him sit straight " your right we can't we just gotta be careful when Serenity is near us last thing I'd want is for her to think I'll go away " explains Duncan intertwining his fingers tight that they trembled.

I never seen Duncan like this before I could see in his eyes that he really does want to be in our daughters life and that means a lot to him especially since I never told him, does he also worry that I don't want him in her life? Maybe I'm being too hard or is it that I'm just being overprotective?

Carefully placing my hand over his the shaking stops and our eyes meet, " we just got more adulting to do we'll figure it out " I breath trying my best to comfort him " I hope " whispers Duncan smiling lightly at me without realizing I didn't know how close we were to each other that Duncan was leaning towards my lips.

Quickly standing up from the couch I get myself together, " this was a good talk " I gasp ignoring what was about to happen " yes it was and next time " Duncan breathes standing up followed by picking up his jacket " next time what? " I asked watching Duncan grab his phone and car keys.

Giving me his infamous grin that he would always flirt me with " to kiss you " he answers winking before walking towards the door leaving me stunned " that's a good one " I laugh following behind him as he opens the door " I don't joke when it come to you babe...have a good night " said Duncan smiling at me along with closing the door once again leaving me stunned.

Walking up to the door to lock it I stand there momentarily processing what happened...first we have a decent adult conversation, second Duncan is agreeing on things with me, third he wants to be here for Serenity and lastly why is my heart beating so freaking fast right now?
