AN: To those saying Jaune got his semblance too fast for their liking I wanted to point out a few things. In the canon of the show, Jaune technically first used his semblance in Forever fall. First time he used it and understood it was the later seasons with Weiss but either way, it's unlocked when he's trying to protect someone. Initially by standing up for his team and later trying to save Weiss' life. I just accelerated things a bit.

With the Power of an Avalanche

Chapter 4

-Weiss-

Head held high; Weiss Schnee gazed about the Beacon assembly hall Imperiously. This was the most respected Huntress academy in the world, and she was ready to take this place by storm. She'd been working on her plan ever since she chose Beacon as the school that would have her attendance and learning that Pyrrha Nikos had enrolled here as well had only further cemented those plans.

She, the smartest girl in this class, would partner up with Pyrrha Nikos, the strongest girl in the class. Together, they'd be partners and lead their dream team to new levels of fame and prestige! It would be perfect! But first, to find Pyrrha. Looking around the room more intently, she started taking note of who all she saw.

Headmaster Ozpin and Professor Goodwitch standing on the stage, preparing for their welcoming speech.

That daft child in the red hood who'd caused the Dust explosion outside standing next to some scantily clad blonde.

Some energetic twit bouncing around while babbling something about pancakes or sloths.

A portly professor leading some scraggly blond and her stupid brother into the area while they talked happily.

Some dark-haired girl reading a book and ignoring…

Her brother?!

Rubbing her eyes slack jawed, Weiss double checked and confirmed that, yes, Whitley Schnee was indeed entering the room next to some dim looking blond boy. What in the blazes was that little slime doing here?!

"He's not even trained." Weiss scowled at Whitley, her 'brother' seemingly feeling her gaze as he turned around, looked her in the eye…before turning around in dismissal, ignoring her. The nerve!

-Whitley-

"And here we are boys!" Professor Port laughed cheerily as he finished leading Whitley and Jaune to the large hall where the first-year applicants would be staying the night.

"Always a pleasure." Doctor Oobleck drank deeply from a thermos of what he could tell was dust laced coffee, "I hope nothing dangerous has happened to you two since that first incident?"

"No, no, we've been fine." Whitley gave a carefully crafted smile to the two teachers as he remembered how hectic the past few weeks had been. The gun going off had drawn cops and their statements, being Beacon applicants, had of course gotten back to the faculty. Professor Port had been the one to come down and check on them, even offering them chances to come up to Beacon before today to let Jaune have a better place to practice with his newly discovered semblance. Getting the chance to cultivate contacts such as Port and Oobleck before the start of term had been most useful as well.

"Rest up boys!" Port laughed heartily, slapping them on the back "You've got a big day tomorrow!"

"But don't be afraid to start getting to know your fellow applicants." Doctor Oobleck was much less boisterous but no less attentive, "Why there's even another potential student here who's fifteen as well." The last bit was directed at himself, but it still had him intrigued.

"Oh?" Whitley glanced about the auditorium, noting more than a few eyes on them.

"Yes, young Miss Rose." Oobleck nodded to a pair of girls laying down, "She and her sister are over there."

"Now, now, Bart. Let them children make their own friends." Port laughed happily, ushering his protesting colleague out, "Have a good evening boys!"

"Well…they're both still energetic." Jaune gave a sheepish grin at him as they made their way into the room, ignoring the stares and whispers they were getting, "Although something tells me they're more eager for the cakes and coffee from that café you're opening than anything else."

"We're opening Jaune." Whitley reiterated, "I may be the one who knows how to run a business and have the money, but these are your recipes and your ideas." He didn't want Jaune to start feeling underappreciated or cheated. That would only cause issues further down the line, especially since the three businesses he was opening weren't yet off the ground.

"Right, right." Jaune grinned sheepishly even as they kept walking in. The choice of whether or not to approach the other fifteen-year-old among the applicants was taken out of their hands though when the blonde with her approached them.

"So, boys." The blond girl threw an arm around their shoulders, the way her muscles tensed around their necks Jaune knew it was about sending a clear message "Care to tell me why one of the teachers was talking about me and my little sis to you?"

"Just your 'little sis' actually." Jaune, to Whitley's surprise, wasn't even batting an eye at the well-endowed blonde trying to intimidate them "You weren't the topic of discussion."

"That…so?" the blonde got out, clearly not used to not being part of the main focus, or someone not being the least bit flustered by her.

"Yep." Jaune popped the 'p' of the word with a little grin, "The professors are good guys and thought Whitley and your sister might get along given they both got invited here two years early."

"Seriously?" the blonde gave Whitley a double look, clearly figuring out he was younger than Jaune.

"Yaaaaaang!" the dark-haired sister had apparently had enough of the now named Yang trying to intimidate them, "Knock it off already!"

"Sorry, sorry!" Yang gave a sheepish chuckle even as she drug Whitley and Jaune over to where she had set up, "But hey, I brought you a friend! Two even!"

"Please, help, I've been kidnapped." Jaune deadpanned even as Whitley snorted and Yang gave him an annoyed look.

"I'm Whitley." He decided to introduce himself to his fellow early admitted applicant, "Doctor Oobleck suggested I talk to you since we were both accepted two years early."

"Y-you were?" the dark-haired girl perked up hopefully, "I'm Ruby, Ruby Rose!"

"And I'm Jaune." Jaune grinned easily as he sat down, surprisingly at ease.

"Okay, how are you not even slightly flustered by all this I've got going on?" Yang demanded, cockily gesturing to her pajama clad body as she did so.

"I have seven sisters." Jaune deadpanned as he pulled out the photo Whitley saw before, "And you could easily pass for one of them." The two girls gaped at the photo and the absurd number of siblings before slowly nodding, there not being much else to be said.

"So…um…Whitley, right?" Ruby shifted about nervously, the girl shockingly shy for a huntress in training "How did you get accepted to Beacon so early?"

"I trained hard and applied." Whitley shrugged, "My grades and combat level were deemed acceptable to enter early. Wasn't it the same for you?"

"No! I mean, uh, no…I, uh." Ruby started dissolving into a stuttering mess, so Yang took over.

"My baby sis stopped a robbery being done by Roman Torchwick." Yang bragged about her sister with a smug grin, "Him and his grunts."

"Impressive." Whitley nodded, reappraising Ruby with this new information.

"Damn right she is!" Yang grinned, pulling her sister into a one-armed hug.

"Hey, um, Whitley?" Ruby looked over at him from where she was being squished, "You look like someone else I met today. Do you have a sister, or a cousin, or?"

"Weiss?" he asked and, when Ruby nodded awkwardly, Whitley shook his head, "My condolences for having to put up with my sister. She had never been the best at talking with people she sees as beneath her." Such as himself.

"So, she's grumpy and lame." Yang huffed, "Boring. Can't we talk about something fun?"

"Weapons?!" Ruby perked up at the word fun, her mind instantly going to implements of death as Yang face palmed.

"I can talk about that." Jaune nodded with a grin.

"You're a walking armory so you would." Whitley rolled his eyes, having gotten used to quipping with his new partner.

"Walking armory?" Yang raised an eyebrow at Jaune who smirked, holding out his hand as a spear appeared in it.

"My semblance." Jaune grinned as Ruby started rushing about the weapon "I call it Unlimited Blade Works. It lets me study weapons and recreate them through my aura as solid constructs. They're not that strong at the moment, most of them shatter after one use without some dust gear that Whitley made me to reinforce them. But I can recreate them quickly."

"So cooooool!" Ruby was sparkly eyed as she examined the spear, "Where'd you study this one?!"

"This was the spear of one of my great-great Grandparents." Jaune explained, "My family are old blood huntsmen, and we keep the weapons of each family member along with recording their stories and histories. I spent so much time studying them as a kid that I can recreate most of them already."

"But you need to figure out how to use each one I'm guessing?" Yang was much calmer than her sister, "Or does your semblance also let you automatically know how to fight with them?"

"It doesn't." Jaune's proud grin broke as he slumped miserably, the spear breaking apart into motes of light, Whitley patting his friend's back comfortingly while Yang snickered.

"So cooooool!" Ruby was at least impressed by Jaune's semblance as the two started talking about famous historical weapons and talking about what type of weapons Jaune could already make.

"I believe they've forgotten we're here." Whitley chuckled while Yang nodded, seeming quite pleased.

"Yeah. Your sister was a right bitch but you're alright dude." Yang nodded, "Plus it's good to see Ruby finally making friends."

"Glad to be of service." Whitley chuckled, "Still, we should rest up. Initiation is going to be no joke tomorrow."

"Uuuuuuugh, fiiiiine." Yang groaned but lay down even as Whitley settled in as well, pointedly ignoring the glowers his sister was still sending his way.

AN: So yeah. I was torn between Jaune's canon semblance and giving him Unlimited Blade Works from Fate/Stay. I decided to go Blade Works because I'm using his canon semblance in other stories and this one, I feel could still be argued as a potential semblance. All Semblances are either 'fitting of personality' such as Yang having anger issues and having a berserker semblance, or Ironic such as Raven's semblance letting her always go back to those she cares about when she has a hard time opening up to people. The Schnee's are of course the exception.

Jaune's whole thing is that he wants to be a hero and he talks about wanting to be like his ancestors. Of course, he'd study their weapons and deeds. So here his semblance lets him recreate the weapons of the heroes past and present. They break without reinforcement though because, much like Jaune, they're still so new and weak, trying to be what others already were.
