I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hello guys, Badger here. I'm back. Sorry it's been a while since I last posted. This chapter was supposed to be published a few days ago, but I had fallen ill. Pro tip, always make sure the chicken is properly cooked. And, I don't know if you knew this, but it is very hard to write, when you are being sick every few minutes. Plus I've been a bit obsessed with Little Nightmares recently. But hey, the new chapter is up now, hooray.
I had fun with this chapter and, I feel like First Year will be wrapping up soon, I'd say it will move onto Second Year between chapters 10 and 15, but, we'll have to see until then. Before you read on, keep an eye out for a meta joke in this chapter. I added it as a cheeky jab at many Dark Harry fanfics I've read.
Anyway that is all, read on, enjoy and I will see you at the end.
Chapter 6
"So, you were able to get the Muggleborn on our side?" James asked, as he twirled a small dagger in his hands
It had been a day since Hermione agreed to help Harry and be helped in return. Her involvement hasn't been revealed to the rest yet, as Harry had to plan for the backlash that may or may not happen. Of course, Harry needed to think of a plan, just in case Hermione does a runner and tell Dumbledore of his plans.
"Of course, though she doesn't know the full story" Harry shrugged "She will need to be taught everything, she needs to know, about the Wizarding World to be a true member to our cause…I figured I'd give that task to you…Mother always said you had a knack for, 'persuading' people, shall we say"
"That's just the Badger charm" James replied, a feral grin on his face, as he threw the dagger behind him, where the sound of the blade piercing the wooden door echoed across the room, a few seconds later "Every member born into the family has it"
"Indeed" Harry rolled his eyes "If she proves to be worthy to the cause, I believe she will be a vital member to The Council"
"You're actually going through with that?" James asked "I thought that was just one of those random ideas you had…I never thought you'd do it"
"Believe me, I thought about it for a long while" Harry said, though that was a lie, he only thought about it for five minutes "Of course, only the most loyal will become members of The Council, so far only yourself and Mother are on that list, hopefully by next year I'll have the members lined up"
"And what if Dumbledore catches wind of this?" James asked "I may be insane, but even I am cautious from time to time"
"You don't need to worry about that my friend" Harry smiled, as he took out a coin and started flipping it in the air "if everything goes well, then we will have a member to act as a spy, to make sure the old fool doesn't find out…not until it's too late"
"Snape?" James guessed "You sure he'll join the cause?"
"Of course" Harry replied "I will leave him with a choice…continue being a spy for Dumbledore and Voldemort, as the two sides continue to duke it out, battle after battle or, join our cause that will change the future of the Wizarding World forever…of course, on the off chance, he refuses to join our cause, he will be marked as an enemy…plus you may have to kill him before he tells Dumbledore"
"As long as I get to kill someone, I don't care what happens" James grinned "Speaking of which, when do we go after Quirrell?"
Ever since Harry had informed James about Quirrell being a vessel for Voldemort's spirit, James has been itching to kill. There have been times where Harry has had to stop his friend from pulling out his wand in Defence Against the Dark Arts, whilst Quirrell is teaching. James was usually very calculated, but when it came to the thought of killing someone, his blood lust will kick in and he can't think of anything else. Harry imagined it was because of Mother's teachings.
"Don't worry my friend, we'll go after him soon enough" Harry smiled, as he spun the coin against the side table and leaned forward in his seat, as it twirled around "First though, I want to find out what his plan is, though that is difficult, neither of us are good at disillusionment charms, meaning I'll need to wait until a certain heirloom is returned to me"
"The Invisibility Cloak" James nodded "Are you sure Dumbledore has it?"
"It's the only logical explanation" Harry shrugged "Why he's kept it for so long, I don't know, though I expect to receive it sooner or later, but once I do, I'll be able to sneak around…that reminds me, I'm going to need your help with something"
"Oh, what with?" James asked, leaning back in his seat
"I'm sure you remember Draco's pathetic attempt to ambush me" Harry grinned "Well, as incredible as I was, I was still hit with a few spells…I need to improve my dodging and agility…I was thinking that, after lessons, we find an empty classroom and you help me by firing some spells at me"
"Lethal, or non lethal?" James asked, a cheeky grin on his face
"Non lethal" Harry glared "So, will you help?"
"Of course, any excuse to fire spells at you" James smiled, ignoring the ice cold glare "We should probably get going now, lessons start soon"
Harry nodded and slammed his hand against the side table, stopping the coin from spinning, so it was now laying flat on the wood of the table. Harry noted that the coin landed on tails, before he left the room. James took a short moment, to remove the dagger from the wood of the door, before closing the door behind him, as they left.
…
Quirrell hissed in pain as he sat down at his desk. His body was covered in burns and the burn-healing paste was going to take another hour before it started to take effect. His master was less than happy when Quirrell's diversion failed. Whilst the rest of the teachers went after the troll, he went to the third floor corridor. He wasn't worried about the defences, they were easy to cheat his way through them, without difficulty. However, before he could even make it to the third floor corridor, he was found by McGonagall and Snape. The Troll had apparently been defeated by Harry Potter, but it had left quite a bit of destruction from the dungeon to the girls bathroom and they needed all the teachers to help with the repairs. His master was already annoyed with Quirrell's failure, but upon hearing that Harry Potter was the one to defeat the troll, his master practically exploded in rage. That boy needed to go. Though Quirrell will need to be careful. His Master has already punished him for failing to kill Potter once already and Quirrell was certain that he was still angry about it. If Quirrell was to kill Potter, then perhaps, he should ask Potter to stay behind after class. What could possibly go wrong?
…
Snape entered the Potions classroom, a small gust of cold air blowing through the classroom, as he made his way toward the front of the room, waving his wand, causing instructions written in chalk to appear on the blackboards, titled: 'Throat Soothing Potion'. Snape turned on his heel and faced the classroom, scanning each student to make sure everyone was paying attention.
"Today, you will be a making a throat soothing potion" He said "Again, a rather simple potion, and as it says on the label, it will help sooth a sore throat…there are no major side effects to making a bad potion of this kind, the most you'll experience are horrendous coughing fits, though I do still recommend caution as potions can still be quite unpredictable when things go wrong…now get to it"
As the students gathered their ingredients, Snape sat at his desk, watching them, Potter in particular. Every time Snape saw the boy, he gave off an eery feeling deep within his own soul. He wasn't sure what it was, but it was there, whatever it was. Turning his attention away for a moment, Snape read through his reports on the First Year students so far, as well as the potions they had made in his classes up to this point. The results were both surprising and slightly worrying. Whilst there were other students in his class that had high marks in his classes, like Daphne Greengrass in Slytherin and Michael Corner in Ravenclaw, Harry had perfect marks all round, in both his written assessments and made potions. Snape could not find fault. Whilst Snape was glad that Potter has gained his mothers intelligence, the boy shouldn't be this knowledgeable in potions. Especially considering he was supposedly living in the Muggle World. Harry would have no access to such knowledge if that was the case. He must have had a witch or wizard find, and tutor him. Snape could only think of one witch, one who was, surprisingly, pretty knowledgeable in potions. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense, but also didn't make sense, at the same time. Whatever the case, Snape hoped he was wrong.
Looking up from his papers, he looked at the boy in question, who was glancing his way, a soft smirk on his lips. Snape wasn't sure what the boy was thinking, but he didn't like it. It was that moment, Snape felt a small burning sensation in the back of his mind. He knew what that it was and quickly set up his mind shields. He looked back at Harry, who looked slightly annoyed, but unsurprised, as he went back to his potion. Legilimency. The boy shouldn't know that. That is, if it was in fact him. If it was, that only added to Snape's suspicions. Merlin, he hoped he was wrong.
…
After lessons were other, Harry and James made there way to a small abandoned classroom on the higher levels of the castle. They still had another four hours until curfew, giving Harry plenty of time to practice his agility and dodging skills. However, before they began, James had some questions as he set up the necessary locking and silencing charms.
"Back in the potions classroom" He said "Did you try and read Snapes mind?"
"How do you know about that?" Harry asked, raising an eyebrow
"I felt it" James rolled his eyes, as if it was common knowledge
"Right, I forgot you can feel magic" Harry replied, mentally kicking himself
"Only if its right next to me" James pointed out "Remember, your mother said Magick Sensory is rare in the Magical World and I need to practice with it more…though, it isn't easy without a tutor, books can only get you so far"
"Yeah, yeah, I get it" Harry replied, pinching the bridge of his nose "No need to remind me"
"So, care to explain why you were doing it?" James asked, crossing his arms
"I wanted to see if he knew anything" Harry sighed "I believe he knows something, every time he looks at me, I feel like he's staring into my soul"
"And did you find anything?" James asked, looking at his finger nails, as if he already knew the answer
"No" Harry snarled "He's a master at both Legilimency and Occlumency, if what mother said is true, I couldn't even get past his shields"
"So you do have flaws, good to see, can't have you being an all powerful being straight away, can we?" James smirked, removing his wand "You ready?"
"Ready" Harry said, before looking at him seriously "No lethal spells"
"I know" James replied, looking offended, before firing a minor stinging hex
Harry easily dodged the stinging hex and quickly dodged another, though it was a close call, as it barely went past his cheek. James seemed to be enjoying himself, as he made Harry dance awkwardly around the room, trying to avoid his spells. After a few stinging hexes, James mixed it up and fired a few stunners, which Harry quickly avoided, though had to drop to the floor, narrowly avoiding a curse that made boils appear on ones skin. Quickly jumping back up, Harry avoided a stunner, but jumped in the way of a small cutting curse, that hit his shoulder. Harry hissed in pain, as he looked at the small cut, small droplets of blood staining the white of his shirt, slowly turning red.
"I said non lethal spells only" Harry replied, a dangerous tone in his voice
"Yes Harry, but you should know by now, I don't always follow the rules" James laughed slightly "Even yours"
Harry rolled his eyes, but knew it was true. James was a loyal friend and always followed orders…most of the time. The boy was insane, chaotic and deranged. Sometimes Harry believed he had a split personality, one part of him being more calm and calculated, the other being cold, mischievous, deranged and, dare Harry say it, murderous. Right now, Harry was dealing with the latter. Shaking his head, freeing his mind from his thoughts, Harry nimbly dodged another cutting curse, before ducking a stunner. Harry was, at least, grateful that his friend wasn't using the Unforgivables. His friend may be insane, but even he wouldn't go that far when firing spells at him.

And done. Did you guys spot the meta joke, let me know in the review section.
A nice simple chapter, and a lot doesn't happen in it, but sometimes those are the best. However, it does include a couple of things. One being The Council. This is an idea I thought of in early development, but was on the fence about, but decided to add it in. More about it will be revealed in future chapters. The second thing is the confrontation between Harry and Voldemort. The whole confrontation at the Mirror of Erised has been done so many times now, I want to do something fresh and save the canon confrontation for another story. The final thing in this chapter, is showing more of James' insanity. There will be more moments like this, but I included this to try and add a bit more depth to his insanity, though there will be more moments like this.
One last thing before you go. I have three new story ideas planned. I'm not saying what they are, as I want to plan them out a bit, to see if they will work, so just keep an eye out on my profile for new stories. One story, in particular will show change the relationship between Harry and James and I'm not talking about romance.
Anyway, that is all for now. I hope you enjoyed and I will see you next time.
Badger Out.
