Max Payne 2 - Main Theme

Somewhere in the Baroncave, a subterranean base of operations just underneath the Kudo Mansion, Conan Edogawa, also known as Night Baron, had been looking at the screen of the Baroncomputer for the past few hours and was deep in thought, trying to sort things over.

From what he had been given based on the file folder, the common pattern that relates to the missing people had been the fact that most of them tended to be female. When the police question those closest to the victims, they all spoke the same thing. It had to deal with some kind of urban legend that appeared to have grown popular for quite some time.

The story goes like this. It had to deal with multiple websites on the internet that had closed down and were never touched again. Among them, there was one in particular that specifically closed because an employee went mad and was responsible for killing many (mentally noted by Night Baron as he may needed to look further into this). After committing the murders, the man hanged himself. The site was left as it were, but after what amounted to seven years, the page would turn black and display a lot of corrupted text. Night Baron had seen the corrupted text before when analyzing the site himself with his Baroncomputer, heavily protected from any potential malware or virus whatever form of hacking that comes with it.

It was all written in kanji, then in Fuþark, then in English. The middle language made him stop for a moment and think. There were a few potential suspects that he can trace just from the usage of the Fuþark language. And there was one specific group of suspects that he had in mind since he could distinctly remember Magari Mizuki giving him a warning or a challenge if you will before the next victim gets claimed. Aside from which, oddly enough, Fuþark was the very name of this site. The language itself is the oldest form of the runic alphabets, used back in the time of the 1st to 8th centuries, a writing system used by Germanic peoples for Northwest Germanic dialects in the Migration Period. Fuþark is also a language associated with magic.

This led to the next part of the reports. By 12 PM, and by the next five minutes, if you searched for a few certain words in whatever search engine, one is suddenly able to gain access to the cursed site. If one is to register and write a "sentence", then the URL turns to "massacre" and you will be able to make contact with the dead staff of the site. If one is thinking about dying while doing so, then they would become tied to the netherworld and disappear from this world. Forever.

And the "sentence" to be typed?:

"I want to die."

"Have you found out about anything so far?"

The one who spoke was Ai Haibara, all dressed in her pink shirt and science lab coat, bringing him a cup of coffee that she placed on the table nearby.

"Only that this missing case had been happening for the past few days. It had gotten to the point where Inspector Megure had no other option but to call for me," Conan muttered as he typed from his keyboard.

"And this appeared to be related to Martuba's Tomb in a way?" Haibara asked, narrowing her eyes at the screen.

"I'm sure it's related based on the evidence...and if my encounter with Mizuki Magari was anything to go by," Conan said.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

The screen was immediately showing the symbol of a bat, one that had a prominent head with longer ears, elongated 'claws', but very short joints in the lower part. Conan and Haibara widened their eyes a bit as they saw the iconic symbol.

Conan immediately pressed one of the enter keys and what popped up was the background of a cave. And from the center, there was a man dressed in a sophisticated batsuit that was the latest, subtle, and state-of-the-art. Even underneath the cowl, Conan would recognize the familiar serious stare from this person that was showing from the screen. Accompanying him was the presence of an old British gentleman that wore a butler's uniform, complete with a black bowtie.

"Uncle Bruce, Alfred," Night Baron said respectfully in English, sporting a happy smile on his face, happy to see his mentor and second uncle once again.

"It's good to see you are quite well as always, Master Kudo," Alfred Thaddeus Crane Pennyworth spoke with a courteous and familiar smile, happy to see Shinichi once again.

"Shinichi, Shiho," Batman smiled a little before turning serious. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything important that you have been doing in your night shift."

"Actually uncle, I'm currently investigating about something relating to the disappearances of a few individuals for the past few nights," Night Baron explained.

"Missing persons? Oh dear..." Alfred spoke, making a concerned and grimaced expression.

"Tell me what you've discovered so far, Shinichi," Batman asked.

"The common pattern of the victims, minus a few outliers, was that all of them tended to be female and that it involved a website that appears about midnight and in the five-minute interval afterward. In relation to this is a circulating urban legend that had grown quite popular in the few week's time that it was being told. The story starts with a man, whose name as of this moment could not be identified, committing suicide after apparently murdering an untold number of people, estimated to be about a hundred, but I could not as of yet verify this allegation. Whatever it may be, the site remained while the man died. And in the seven years that had passed, it suddenly became popular enough that it attracted those who may appear to have possible symptoms of suicidal ideation or similar traits relating to the ending of one's life because of many varied reasons."

"Oh my, that's quite grim indeed," Alfred said, looking next to the man seated on his chair and doing a deep thinking pose.

"Any potential suspects?" Batman asked.

"I can think of one, and it would have to be one of the most elusive organizations of my world, Martuba's Tomb," Night Baron said.

"Martuba's Tomb?" Alfred said. "It would appear that you've been encountering their handiwork once again, Master Kudo."

What Alfred meant by this was that this wasn't the very first time Night Baron had encountered this organization. In fact, even his father, the original Night Baron, had encountered their lot.

Martuba's Tomb is an organization that had been hanging around Night Baron's world for quite a long time. Their origins are sketchy at best (which Night Baron suspects positively that it's deliberate) but their earliest known record of activity was in the times of Shamaness-Queen Himiko of Yamatai-koku back in Wa (Japan). Since then, other points of history could be traced. Such as the classical period of witch-hunts in Early Modern Europe and Colonial America where they spanned events such as the upheavals of the Reformation and the Thirty Years' War. In more modern times, they made their presence felt during the darker days of World War II and were engaged by the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. There were also the Revolutions of 1989, a revolutionary wave that resulted in the end of most communist states in the world.

In other words, this organization had been well entrenched in society and culture for over an estimated two thousand years, being one out of many that may possibly have even shaped it.

What is known about them is that they are exceptionally advanced in terms of technology. By combining magic and science and uniting them as if they were a single unified theory, they dedicate themselves to the research of the human person and the spiritual realms. And sometimes, they involved rather unethical methods.

"I see," Batman said. "And I take it that you were able to verify that based on the language decoder that was used."

"There is that...and there's also the fact that one of their most trusted enforcers warned me in a sense," Night Baron said.

"Mizuki Magari," Batman guessed correctly as if it were a fact, fully aware of what she was to his nephew.

"Yes," Night Baron nodded, not surprised at the least that his uncle guessed correctly. "It was during the afternoon when I was spending time with a few friends of mine in Tropical Land. She had been standing on one of the passenger cars of the Ferris wheel that was several meters away from my position so it was only I that can see her while the others weren't aware of her presence. I managed to get a lock on her through my glasses and she gave me a warning as I can make out what she was saying from her lips.

"What did she say?" Batman asked.

"Martuba's Tomb is now on the move. Beware when nightfall comes, my dear Heisei Holmes, because someone is going to die tonight. That's what she directly said before eventually leaving."

"Well, it appeared that once again, this girl had taken quite an interest in you, Master Kudo, no offense to you, of course, Mistress Miyano," Alfred made a contrite expression towards Haibara who had been listening to this conversation in silence.

"No apologies necessary, Alfred," Haibara made a reassuring smile. "I've already grown used to that part of this man's life."

"It may seem that I have caught you in something that demands your full attention then..." Batman nodded. "Good. As perfect of a time as any. Shinichi, there is a favor that I would like to ask from you."

"A favor?" Night Baron asked.

"Not directly via the screen. I'm going to make use of the transporter and head toward your location. Standing by for now," Batman said before eventually hanging up, leaving Night Baron and Haibara to look at each other.

Batman is visiting their universe? It must be rather serious if that required such a thing to happen.

...Well, it was serious. But they didn't think it was a different kind of seriousness.

Somewhere in the Baroncave, there was a special large room called the Space-Time Vault where it would receive inter-universe travel which connects DCMK Universe-Prime (which is Night Baron's reality) and DC Universe-Prime (which is Batman's reality). It could also be used to travel to other dimensions and back again in no time at all. This is where Night Baron and Haibara currently are, anticipating the arrival of Batman.

A breach was seen and a blue-colored spiral portal was hovering just near a platform. It revealed Batman, Alfred, and one other person exiting from the portal. Night Baron blinked for a few moments as he gets a good look at this person.

He appeared to be about ten years of age, so he was slightly taller than Night Baron and Haibara in their current states. He was wearing a black stylized domino mask and a uniform comprised of a red vest held closed by three yellow rectangular fasteners on the front, black leggings, boots, and gloves, all of which seemed to be made of a sort of protective body armor that still allowed him great mobility. On the left side of his chest, he had a yellow stylized "R" symbol in a black circle that acts as a holographic communication projector, and around his waist, he wore a yellow utility belt with pouches for his various equipment. He wore a cape over his shoulders that was black on the outside, with an attached hood, and pale yellow on the inside.

Night Baron took a good closer look. It wasn't the Robin that he knew based on his hairstyle and the outlines of the skin of his face. In fact, he appeared to resemble someone that he is familiar with. If he didn't know any better, it was like he was seeing a mirror image of...

He looked towards Batman and back at this other Robin.

"("...Wait a minute.")" Night Baron thought as there are a few possibilities that came to his mind. And it made him quite surprised.

"Shinichi," Batman said. "I would like to introduce you to my son, Damian. Damian, this is Shinichi."

The introduced young man, Damian Wayne - Robin, begins to walk toward Night Baron and Haibara. Damian looked at Night Baron from up to down as if trying to analyze him.

"...You're awfully short...for being my cousin," Robin said with a serious tone.

Night Baron, despite feeling a bit surprised about this startling news that his uncle had a child and that he was only finding this out, only made a smile based on what Robin had just said. "Other people have more or less said similar things about my height due to my condition."

"So I've heard," Robin had his arms crossed. "Last year ago in your world, you were struck in the back by two men in black and forced to drink a poison that sent your body shrinking down to the size of a child. And since then, you started calling yourself Night Baron Kid and made a name for yourself by rescuing a company president's daughter."

"I take it that either uncle, Alfred, or someone else had told you," Night Baron said.

"That someone else just so happened to be my grandfather, Ra's al Ghul," Robin said, with a hint of pride that Night Baron can detect from the subtle context.

Night Baron widened his eyes somewhat as he turned to Batman for an answer. And he got it.

"That's right, Shinichi," Batman nodded. "Damian is Talia's son...and so is mine..."

"...Huh," Night Baron can only make a "huh" response due to not knowing what else to say as he looked at Robin with a sense of intrigue.

It would appear to him that the case that he was working on wouldn't be the only thing that he would deal with on this very night.
