Chapter 2: Moblin Mayhem
The next morning...
"Wake up! Rise and shine, partner!"
Lumine was awoken from a good night's rest by Link tugging her arm. She still felt a little drowsy, though.
"What is it? Is the village in danger, Link?"
"It'll be in danger soon, if we don't hurry!," Link shouted. He poured a cup of cold water over Lumine's head, making her snap out of the drowsiness.
"Oh, I remember now! Moblins. Real nasty beasts that plunder and pillage. I'm packing the full set of weaponry that you gave me. A sword, shield, axe, polearm, and bow. You've got the same variety of gear, right?"
"Sure do, Lumine!"
The two heroes rushed out of the tent and then bumped into the forest ranger who had given Link the intel on the Moblins.
"Oh, you and your friend came just in time, Link. My name's Gilan, by the way, and when I was patrolling the nearby hillsides, I spotted the same horde of Moblins that have been giving this village a hard time for quite a while. They seem to be on the move, and are headed our way. We must protect the people!"
Link and Lumine both nodded.
"Make haste!," Gilan said back to them. "The quicker you get this battle over with, the sooner the villagers can go back to having peaceful lives."
And so the two heroes hopped on top of Epona, Link's noble steed and a warhorse with unmatched speed, and rode out to the hills surrounding Kakariko to confront the Moblin menace.
It didn't take a very long ride to get to where the monsters were gathering. In fact, they were only a kilometer or so away from the village, and this meant that the townspeople were in the danger zone. Link and Lumine were both seasoned warriors, but they had dozens of foes to deal with, so a strategy was required.
In other words...
They couldn't just go in doing Leeroy Jenkins.
The Moblins themselves were bulky, muscular, 7-foot tall goblin creatures with a face like a bulldog and sharp fangs, who carried spears, clubs and axes forged from iron and fossil material.
What they lacked in intellect, they more than made up for in brute strength, cruelty and sadism, and the act of terrorizing and brutally killing defenseless people with no way to fight back was absolutely delightful to them.
So, when Lumine drew her bow, and fired an arrow into the skull of one of them... they actually felt fear for a moment. Then they were hot on the heels of the two heroes.
Link directed Epona further away from the village, with the Moblins in hot pursuit, while Lumine harassed them with volley after volley of arrows. In fact, she was so proficient in archery, she could fire off 30 arrows in the space of 62 seconds.
Regrettably, she didn't land enough headshots to put a significant dent in the horde's numbers, and the moment the Moblins realized they were dealing with a competent opponent, they ran the other way to attack the village instead of the two teenagers on horseback.
"After them!," Lumine shouted, and Link redirected Epona to chase after the monsters. This battle was inevitably going to have some collateral damage.
A few minutes later, the confrontation had spread into Kakariko, and the people were all hiding in their homes, like a natural disaster had happened, hoping that the monsters would be easily chased away by the two adventurers protecting their town.
However, Link and Lumine were actually having a very hard time dealing with the Moblins. Even though they managed to take down a few, the beasts just kept coming, and their aggressive barrage of blows, which took considerable effort to dodge, made it hard for Lumine to concentrate, so elemental powers were not an option.
And the two heroes were getting the crap beaten out of them- one Moblin grabbed Link by the arms, and threw him through the air, until he crashed into a heap of lumber. On the other hand, Lumine got slugged in the back by the meaty fists of another brute with spine-jarring force, making her gasp in pain.
Link charged back into the fray, and threw a javelin... right into the plump posterior of a Moblin who wasn't looking. The green-skinned fiend howled in agony, and Lumine caught sight of this, and so she tried an inspired trick of her own, taking notice of the bulge in her opponent's loincloth:
*PINGAS!*
Yes that's right, the Traveler kicked a Moblin in the balls. Like Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat.
You wish you could do that to them in Breath of the Wild!
Regardless, that Moblin keeled over, defeated, as Lumine had totally destroyed the source of his testosterone.
While this was all going on, the villagers were watching from their windows, and they all judged the situation to be bleak. These people were helping them in their darkest hour, and showing no fear...
So it was time to return the favor!
The two boys from before, Colin and Connor, ran out of their house with shovels in hand, and rammed them into a Moblin's two feet as hard as they could. The creature screamed, enraged at the fact that these two little twerps would dare challenge its superiority, and reached over to grab them- but never got the chance.
Two dozen more villagers dove into the conflict, including Colin and Connor's parents, wielding hoes, shovels, picks and lumber axes, and using them to great effect against the Moblins, who did not expect their victims to defend themselves, and as such, panicked and became disoriented.
In no time at all, the Moblins had fled, and the villagers cheered, as they had won the battle, and stood up for themselves for the first time. But they never would've gained the courage to defend themselves if it wasn't for Link and Lumine displaying their own bravery and determination.
The two heroes got an onrush of praise from the people they had chosen to protect, even so, they claimed that Kakariko should be proud of solving its own problems.
After a brief fanfare, the villagers returned to their evening routine. Colin and Connor's family had even let the duo stay over at their house and rest up, until Link and Lumine had resolved what to do next.
