Someone once said, "No plan survives the first contact in the battle field, it's how you ultimately adapt that matters"... or something like that, the point is, a first simulation for anyone always gets very daunting and chaotic one way or another.
How will our protagonist fair here? Read and see for yourself.
Enjoy!!
Ok, so... before I tell you of my current predicament, let me tell you what happened prior to now.
As we were watching the battles take place this gave me the perfect opportunity to study each of my classmates and learn about their quirks and fighting styles.
Leaving out a few as I already knew what Shota, Hizashi and Oboro's quirks were, and one more person who you'll learn later.
Thankfully no one questioned why I was taking notes as at least 2 other classmates of mine were doing the same thing.
I think I was being eyed by Shota but I think he let it go and assumed I was collecting notes from the other battles for a reference, which I was.
Anyhow, the battles went in various ways.
Some were quick. Some were long. Some seemed kinda lopsided. Some were chaotic. Some were a clean cut. And all that jazz.
But The problem I had was that with the teammates that I had I was not aware of what their quirks were.
Well, all except Sensoji whose quirk was Blast, he being the other person I mentioned a moment ago.
His quirk allows him to create blasts from the palms of his hands. However, these blasts produce a flashing light that blinds Sensoji, hence why he has shades so that he can protect his eyes.
According to both the vigilantes manga and Wikipedia.
But the problem with him was that he was an arrogant and self-centered person who thinks he is the best, despising those he considers weak and inadequate to be heroes. And this attitude has led him to antagonize Shota for having what he considers a weak Quirk. And his behavior makes him a sore loser as he would not bear the fact that he lost against somebody he considered weak.
But this makes him quite hypocritical as he praises his own ideas and gets upset when others had the same idea as him, accusing them of copying him even though Sensoji himself had copied the idea from others.
So in other words he's like Katsuki Bakugo But with a hypocritical attitude (perhaps that's how he was able to deal with him in the future?).
And, when you look at it, Shota would be the Izuku of the story but with a completely different demeanor and the fact that he has a quirk he was born with unlike the future greenette.
But I can definitely say that there is one thing that makes the Blast and future Explosion users different.
Unlike dynamite for brains, Sensoji knows how to actually congratulate another person who has done a great job facing a villain or opponent, even towards those who he feels antipathy towards. And from what I can gather, he doesn't fight with his mother and is actually a big softie when it comes to her unlike Katsuki is towards Mitsuki (Though that doesn't mean that he hates her).
Before I go on, let me make it clear that there's a difference between antipathy and empathy.
Antipathy - a deep-seated feeling of dislike; aversion.
Empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
Got it?
So sure, he has his faults but he at least is willing to admit some things unlike Katsuki in that spectrum.
As for the other two, I haven't a clue.
Thankfully when It was coming close to our turn the four of us got together and got to discussing how we were going to do this so I was able to get a hint of what my other two classmates were capable of and who they were without making it obvious.
The second male on our team, Jino Tomopoh, had a quirk that could let him create a mirage of either people or the surrounding area itself by a good couple of miles in order to misdirect and confuse opponents, though the problem with him was that he could only use it for short bursts lasting a whole minute at a time and overusing his quirk repeatedly would make him completely lose a sense of direction for the better part of 15 minutes (hence why he has a GPS on him so that he can rely on that to combat against it to a decent degree.), He's also skilled in Brazilian jiu jitsu so he wasn't defenseless (fun fact: he's actually one eighth Brazilian while he's mostly part Japanese and part American).
The second female after me was Tsumimi Opodamiyu, whose quirk allowed her to Make her origami creations do various things depending on what she makes, And she has very fast hands so she was able to make several of them on the fly while others take a little bit of time but thankfully she has some pre-made ones in several of her pouches that she could pull out at any time, But the catch was that once they serve their purpose they burned up into ashes meaning that she would have to use another one to replace it if she needed to, and in physical combat she is a black belt in ballet style taekwondo.
Ok so a sleeping quirk, a blasting quirk, an illusion quirk and an origami quirk.
Different quirks that to some would think would seem rather incompatible, but in the hands of a brilliant strategist could make a formidable team.
Thank you years of keen eye observation and from detective stories I've been a fan of for years, Even those from other countries in their respective language.
It turns out both me and Jino were on the same page so we both collaborated on how we would go about this exercise, thankful he gave me the details on what quirks our four opponents wheeled as a recap.
A telescopic quirk, a verbal distraction quirk, a weaponizing candy making quirk and a pseudo slingback shooting quirk respectfully.
Two of them had non-combatant type quirks but were more than capable of fending off against opponents in hand to hand combat and martial arts as the two of them were apparently cousins, and the other two relied more on long distance weapons, though one was capable of creating weapons he can use in face-to-face combat, the other on the other hand relied more on stealth like a ninja And rarely ever needed to use physical violence although she was capable of using ninjutsu in battle and using pressure points to paralyze her opponents in desperate situations.
We would be divided in two sections, Me and Jino would be in charge of finding all the hostages and escorting them safely. While Sensoji and Tsumimi are in charge of taking on our opponents, although there was a good chance, and they're most certainly was, that they would think smarter and divide their forces to make it harder for us to achieve our goal.
Also on a side note, is it me or was Sensoji blushing when he learned that he would be partnered up with Tsumimi? (My detective and anime fan side are telling me that he has a crush on her, but I won't say anything until I actually have further proof, though honestly I think a love interest will help him if only to help curb his attitude some.)
The plan was pretty simple, Jino would be my spotter and watch my back while "I", apparently according to him, was the best at finding things and people as I was thorough in my searching (something Nemuri and I have in common as this was something that never left me even from childhood), keeping in eye on each of the "hostages"we'd rescue before we would regroup and meet with the other's before making our way to the goal, depending on how we'll fair against our opponents on the way if the others haven't dealt with them yet or had only managed to take down some (depending on the case).
While Sensoji and Tsumimi would be the one's to battle against our opponents mainly, but we both cautioned that we should expect the others to anticipate it or think of a diversion to delay us from reaching our objective, or have some fight one group and send the other to hold off the other.
Also we were all given ear coms so we could stay in contact with the others Incase something went wrong.
"Not like that's gonna be of any use once I destroy them all myself." Sensoji retorted in a smug manner that came off as cocky.
What did I do in response?
Simple, and probably something no students did to him (and likewise with Katsuki outside of trying to defuse things or restrain him or remind him about overestimating others).
I smacked the back of his head as I responded, in a serious tone, "Don't be cocky, no matter what opponents we face underestimating them even for a moment in a real battle will lead to failure, who's to say they won't ambush us immediately before we can act? Inflated egos can lead to death you know."
The others? Just as I expected, stared at me in disbelief.
You know to be honest I wondered why nobody smacked these particular characters in the head for acting like this (besides the parents or older siblings doing it or occasionally a responsible teacher in some way), their personalities always bothers me as they were punks. Arrogant jerks who need a reality check at least once in a while.
If anyone else saw that, I chose to ignore them as I made my way to where we needed to be to start the last round as I hollered for my team to follow me, which they did, as no one spoke a word until we reached our starting point.
I know what you're thinking, again, I blame puberty 2.0, but I think it might also be me being sick of constantly worrying my head off (despite there being a good reason behind it), The fact that I have been bullied back home and Sensoji getting on my nerves (despite the fact I actually haven't talked to him myself until today).
Maybe I snapped from a little bit of all of them?
Who knows?
Anyways, what happened next, well, everything got intense so fast!
First off as soon as the final round began we got ambushed.
Smoke bombs were immediately thrown at us thus leading us to getting separated from one another.
Survivor instinct in me told me to run which I did but not before I screamed at Sensoji, wherever he was, that I told him so before sprinting away from the area knowing that staying there would be fatal.
I tried to get in contact with everybody through the ear comms but all I can hear was static, so I only had to guess that one of our opponents had some kind of jammer that prevented us from communicating with one another, so in other words we were on our own.
Our plans did not survive even one second on the battlefield.
Despite the slight panic, I did recall one other plan that me and Jino did come up with if we all got separated from the other, which in that case our goal would be to complete their objective and try to regroup as quickly as possible.
... In other words, wing it until we united.
For me to avoid getting spotted by our opponents I kept ducking into narrow spaces and alleys here and there randomly trying to lose them, Not accidentally go through the same area I went through twice and at the same time simultaneously looking for any of the hostages that may be hidden somewhere.
Nerve-wracking to see the least.
But to my surprise I actually managed to find one of the hostages rather easily.
As I said before our opponents were our classmates from class 1B, while the hostages on the other hand were the business course students who volunteered for extra credit and potential business opportunities.
Despite being startled by him I quickly understood why he was surprised to see me given the fact that my hero costume got a complete overhaul from the last time any of them had checked.
Which is where I'm currently at right now, giving a summary of the practicality of the costume change to the guy as we slowly navigate our way out of the area he was being "held" in before making a run for it.
To give you a summary on my hero costume:
My Costume was like a kunoichi, more that then an assassin.
A very long sleeve Royal blue crop top with pale light blue dotted lines at the end of sleeves, a crystal blue fuzzy like choker with a bell on it but the bell itself Which is a pale light blue is not real but it's more of a accessory, underneath the crop top is a pale light blue shirt underneath Which was tucked into a grey utility belt with black pouches that keep numerous items in them and the dark blue shorts that stop above my knees, pale light blue knee-high socks under a pair of dark blue and crystal blue knee-high laced boots, And lastly a bubble-like scrunchie to hold my hair up in a high ponytail and a crystal blue visor over my eyes for eye protection (They're bulletproof, fireproof, and can withstand being punched straight from a person who has a strength enhancement quirk (although they're not strong enough to, say, withstand a punch as strong as All Might's but you get the picture)).
Within the sleeves, Not only are they equipped to release the sleep fumes as soon as I pull them up but also within are some pouches in the sleeves that hold more items but more lightweight to ensure that they wouldn't weigh down my arms nor make it obvious that there's something I'm hiding in there.
The items I'm holding in each and everyone of my pouches are: A good handful of shurikens and kundai's, a mini blow dart shooter and some darts with my quirk in a liquid base form that can easily be injected upon impact into flesh, a mini first aid kit with all of its bells and whistles, some smoke bombs, a mini notepad and pen for taking notes on the go, a miniature but portable and powerful flashlight, at least three cute and cuddly hand puppets which I can use to help ease the fear of children I rescue, a miniature sewing kit, a pair of iron knuckle duster fingerless gloves, a small case of assorted medicines that can be applied in an emergency, a sharp and durable tensen, a retractable metal bo staff, and a mini compact phone That's basically like one of those old flip open phones only this one is durable, is capable of doubling as a scanner to scan foreign substances placed on it and giving very thorough results, and has great GPS.
Yes that last item was mostly based off of The compact communicators from Totally Spies. PS, Sam is my favorite.
Sure on paper they all sound like eventually they'll become heavy items for me to haul around with me on my person, but quite thankfully these items were made with materials (that I have no clue how it works or understand the full principles of) that make them pretty lightweight, Not to mention that despite how she looks Nem's actually physically stronger than most people believe, so as far as anyone is concerned all the items I'm holding all together somewhat feels as light as a sack of feathers.
When asked, I told him the same thing that I told Shota, Which really interested him and he even commented that the new look looks great on me, and really captured the theme of a ninja anime girl.
Thankfully we were able to continue talking while we were running, he even offered to keep on lookout for me for my opponents as quite frankly apparently our opponents really scared him something fierce, as evident from him shuddering at the mere thought of them.
I made a mental note to get him some hot chocolate later to cheer him up.
From a distance I started to hear a lot of fighting going on as it indicated from all the collateral noise That caught my ears and lots of shouting, if I were to wager a guess, I would have to say that my teammates were in battle with our opponents, don't know how many from either side though, Still I kept my guard up in case something went awry.
I was starting to feel apprehensive by this point, it almost seemed kind of easy.
As evident from years of observation from watching tons of anime and cartoons, no matter how ridiculous it sounded, it was always one of the signs that this was the calm before the storm and something was about to happen very soon, that I was actually being watched until the very last second where I would be caught off guard, or a bit of both.
Just then suddenly a light blue paper airplane came flying towards us, and that was when I remembered that Tsumimi had an origami quirk, and she was probably using it to try and find me and the others, Especially since sticking out of the paper airplane was what looked like a walkie talkie.
I pulled out the device before I turned the knobs a bit before I could hear a voice coming out of it.
"Hello, hello are you there?" Her voice came out of it, as I briefly wagered that she had the ability to sense where her origami creations went to when she sent them out on scouting expeditions.
"I hear you loud and clear Mimi." I told her as I led the guy through a narrow alley.
"Nem! Oh I am so glad to hear from you, are you all right?" She asked me worriedly.
Yes everyone in class calls Nemuri by her nickname, Nem.
"I'm fine, I actually found the first hostage with little issue, but I'm kind of lost. What happened?"
"After The smoke bomb hit us I somehow managed to stick close to Sensoji and Jino, But quickly realized that we lost sight of you, it turns out you're right about our opponents unleashing an attack on us when we least expected. The reason why I was unable to get in contact with you sooner was because one of them had a signal jammer on them and thus I had to use one of my emergency walkie-talkies so that we could speak. I nearly jumped out of my own skin when the smoke bomb hit us immediately after the match began."
"I don't blame you, I just started listening to survivors instinct and just started running as fast as I could to avoid getting attacked. I had suspected that one of them had some kind of jammer hence why I was unable to contact any of you. Still Sorry for practically abandoning you guys. What's going on on your end?"
"All's forgiven and Three of our opponents came at us gun ho after the smoke cleared up but the last one was nowhere to be seen, I would have to surmise that she went looking for you."
"Which one?"
"The one with the pseudo sling back shooting quirk."
"So it looks like it may be a battle between two kunoichi's for my case given my apparel outfit of choice And that the other has ninja training."
"Yeah, be careful out there, according to Jino she's apparently very ruthless in combat."
"Understood, thanks for the heads up."
"Hopefully you'll see more of my paper airplanes flying around besides this one as I designed them to assist you as soon as they spotted you If you run into her."
"I'll keep my eyes open."
"I got to go for now, if they see that I'm talking to you through this walkie talkie you might get in trouble."
"I understand, all of you stay sharp, over and out."
With That I put down the walkie talkie and put it in one of my pouch pockets as I continued to lead the boy through this area.
Just then an announcement was heard All throughout the facility over the speakers:
"10 MINUTE WARNING!"
No pressure or anything.
Thankfully I'm not winded, yet, from running so far. But it can still change.
'I hope the others are ok.' I thought in my mind as I knew I had to hurry to find the goal.
Just then I heard the sound of someone shouting and a door being pounded on nearby as I knew it had to be the second hostage, following the sound I was able to find him as he was trapped in a closet, when he heard the warning he actually started getting a bit claustrophobic hence why he panicked a bit and thus leading to him practically banging on the door like a madman. Thankfully his buddy from his class was able to calm him down before I lead them both out of the building that the other guy was held in as we continue to make our way down the street.
I really need to learn their names at some point.
'Now all we have to do is find the exit and we'll win.' I thought
Just then two more paper airplanes came flying towards me, the same color as the first one, as all three of them, now together, seem to gently poke my shoulder, pointing me in the right direction, Tsumimi must have figured out where to goal was so I chose to follow them and the boys seem to understand this and follow without question.
After some bit of maneuvering, and a risk of getting spotted in the streets, I could see the goal straight ahead of me.
But still I had this feeling that it wasn't going to be over just yet, I had stay on my toes.
And I was right to do so when I heard the sound of something piercing through the air coming straight at us, I only had enough time to look at where it was coming from before pushing the boys out of the way so that they wouldn't get hit as the projectile, which seem to be a marble, struck the ground creating a small bullet shaped crater.
I looked up to see where it came from after it hit the ground, and I saw the girl who had the quirk in question that I was warned about.
Who I was warned that she was ruthless.
She jumped from her vantage point on top of a second story building as she made a few leaps between windows before reaching the ground floor where she made her way to the front of the final line.
Jino and I were right. She's got the whole ninja theme herself to match with her skills.
She wore a sleeveless grey kimono like garb that was fitted for combat as the design on it was that of a black and silver peacock, a black and magenta utility belt with several pouches that probably held her items she used as projectiles, She wore black flats and she wore a visor much like my own except hers was light gray in coloring.
"So then, time for us to finish this." She said in a monotone manner as her face seemed both neutral yet serious.
Weird, I think I've heard this line before somewhere, I think.
Either way I gestured the boys to hide, which they did, so they wouldn't get caught in the crossfire as my eyes never left hers as her heterochromic red and grey eyes which seemed deadly serious on taking me down.
My hair and hers, which was Hot pink with light grey highlights here and there and was in a high ponytail like my own, flowed in the wind as we had a stand off.
We both looked somewhat similar in terms of theme but in terms of costume style it was definitely different.
Trying to read the other as she quickly eyed her surrounding and the others before going back to me.
Slowly we got into our battle stances and as it was so silent that you could hear a pin drop.
So it was no surprise when we both flinched in startlement as we heard the announcement:
"5 MINUTE WARNING!"
Time just flew by until We realized how much time we actually had.
We needed to finish this, and we both knew this.
By the look of it, it seems she had no intention of using her quirk against me, and obviously I can't use my quirk since it works more on boys than it does on girls, so it seems we were doing this the old fashioned way, quirkless, fisticuffs, just a fight between two heroines in training.
One of the boys sneezing could be heard but, it seemed to both of us, that was our trigger to start as we both sprinted towards the other.
I dodged a jab and she dodged my hook, I nearly escaped her pinning my legs with her own and she twirled out of the way of my jab, I caught her elbow and she caught mine as we both tried to force the others weight against the other before we broke apart and backed away before going at each other again.
She blocked my roundhouse while I barely avoided her uppercut as I did a backflip to get me some distance before charging at her again as she tried to get me with her pressure points but I was able to actually catch her wrists before she could hit me but she was able to get out of my grasp before I could pin her as she somersaulted away to give herself distance too before she charged at me.
I blocked several of her punches in quick secession while she dodged several of my own in the same fashion.
We both tried to hit the other with our jabs but our fists collided with the other, not only cancelling each other out but also sending a shock of pain through our hands as we both winced and backed away massaging our practically bruised knuckles before we stared at the other.
She nicked my cheek as I tried to dodge her roundhouse kick and i only grazed her shoulder with a flying punch myself Which she barely avoided.
And it just kept going, both of us dodging and nearly getting a solid hit in besides a few nicks here and there.
It seemed like we were equally matched, but we knew someone had to give in eventually.
Though I think in her eyes she was actually kind of enjoying this, and honestly so am I for I haven't had a fight this thrilling in years.
I can't even remember when that last time was as it seemed like long ago, fighting for good thrilling sportsmanship rather than for competition.
But I know that it was Back when times seemed more peaceful back home.
Thankfully our costumes were durable so even with some of the nicks we got neither one of our apparels got ripped up.
Neither one of us wanted this to end, but we both knew with a heavy heart that we were in the middle of an exam and there could only be one winner in this.
Just then the paper airplanes which have been following me the whole time And I actually forgot about in the midst of this cat fight suddenly came out of nowhere and started to swarm her.
She tried to hit them but they out maneuvered her and swarmed her quickly, grazing her here and there as she had been totally caught off guard by their arrival.
I feel kind of sorry for her as I saw her wince here and there, paper cuts always sting, no butts about it.
But I knew that this was my chance as I hollered for the boys to come out, briefly giving my opponent an apology nod, as I led the boys to that line.
As soon as we stepped through there was a loud blare, signaling that it was over as it announced:
"TEAM HEROES HAS WON WITH 30 SECONDS TO SPARE, ALL MATCHES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED!"
Wow, I came close to losing there, but despite that revelation I smiled as I was happy that we won though I was a little sad that the match between me and that girl had been under circumstances that were not on our terms.
I heard footsteps approaching as I turned to see her, Her face now more calmer but still neutral compared to before as the paper airplanes behind her had long since burned up and turned to ashes.
Soon we were right in front of the other as neither of us spoke for a minute, observing the other before she finally broke that silence as she spoke:
"Though the circumstances of our duel between the other was not entirely in our favor, it did give us a chance to get to know each other a little bit. I could see in your eyes that you're formidable in combat though it seems you have much on your mind than most people could realize, I'm curious to know what you are thinking but something tells me that it's something rather personal that you rather not get others involved in order to spare them from any sort of despair that you may face. However it seems you're more than willing to put aside your own worries for the sake of the task at hand. I admit that it's been a long time since the last time I fought somebody This fiercely, it was... fun... and I would like to think that we could spar again but next time on a set of terms that are more favorable to us both."
I nod in agreement as she hit the nail on the head, I genuinely do want to fight her again and get to know her a little bit more Just as much as she does.
She was a very interesting person, and a type of person that always piques my interest. Perhaps we can both be good friends and rivals with the other.
With that I offered my hand as I introduced myself, "I'm Nemuri Kayama, Nem for short, perhaps we can meet up again before we head off to our work studies."
She nodded back as she gave me a pleased smile as She accepted my hand and introduced herself, "I'm Nini-lee Yu, Nini for short, and I accept your offer."
Done!!
I'm glad I finally got this done.
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, share your thoughts with me and tell me what you think, until next time, TTFN!
