Also, wow, I swear I didn't notice it's been 2 years since I did chapter 1!
Trios Rainy Days
A sudden drop of water falling onto the gummiphone's screen made Sora pause, and the next drop on the back of his neck made him look up at the sky. The gray clouds were looming in the sky and he could see the curtain of rain falling down over the town. Putting the phone away in his uniform's pants, placing his hands behind his head, Sora stepped backwards until he was under the protection of the school's awning-the rain immediately came rushing down!
Sora could only stare in disbelief before letting out a sigh, deciding to look back at his gummiphone to see if Riku or Kairi would have a solution. The sound of the rain was oddly calming, and if it wasn't for the tapping on his cheek Sora might've dozed off standing up again. He poked back at a sensitive spot on Kairi's stomach, causing her to laugh just as he wanted. The both of them playfully poked back and forth for a bit, only stopping to catch their breath and look back at the rain again.
Sora cast Kairi a pleading look, waving one hand over his head and using the other to mime holding something. Kairi's face slightly turned red and looked away, shaking her head. Remembering how she came to class late–a rare occurrence–and explained at lunch that she rushed out of her house, Kairi likely forgot to pack her umbrella. The pair could only look wearily at the rain for a fair bit of time.
Kairi snapped up from her squat and held out her hands, and in seconds the keyblade appeared in her grip. Sora raised a brow, leaning on the wall and decided to just observe whatever she had planned. Kairi pointed the keyblade forward, closing her eyes in concentration and letting out a hum.
A blue glow appeared around her and the rain slowed down for a few seconds, before speeding back up. Kairi groaned in frustration and lowered back into a squat with a pout, ignoring Sora's chuckles. The Kingdom Key appeared in his hand, raising it up a blow glow engulfed Sora and called forth Waterga around him. Deciding to go for broke, slid his bags off onto the cement before jumping out into the rain.
Not a single drop made it past the streams orbiting him; in fact drops seemed to get absorbed into them. Sora grinned back at Kairi, who could only pout before cheekily shooting an orb of light at him, giggling how fast his spikes fell down from the new wet weight. Sora stared in shock for a few seconds, pouted and then casually swung the keyblade.
Kairi's giggling turned into squawk, her face then mirroring her attacker's shocked look from seconds ago. The two soaked teens stared at each other for a bit. Suddenly keyblades started swinging water around them back and forth.
This was the scene Riku found himself looking at as he walked out from the school, exasperation clear on his face at his friends impromptu magical splash fight.
He unfolded his umbrella, summoned Braveheart before shooting a Stop spell at the laughing pair, freezing all movement and rain around the school yard. Maneuvering the happy statues under his umbrella in time for the spell to wear off, both teens almost lost their balance and when they did, laughed nervously at Riku, who could only sigh and jerked his head towards the road passing their bags to them. Promises of rematches and hot soup were made as the trio made their way home.
The Land of Departure was hardly a stranger to weather changes and the occasional small rainstorm was useful as a training exercise for keyblade wielders. So, it came to no surprise to Terra that the first time the clouds came in since their group had gotten back together, Aqua was sitting in a meditative stance on the front courtyard. A slight bubble shield coming from the glowing keyblade above her to keep her dry and protected.
Terra just stood patiently, watching his friend gave him a peace of mind seeing old habits acted out. He sipped his tea to help fight the slight chill in the air, keeping the other mug–green in color–in his grip warm. He heard the familiar sound of a keyblade glider from above and shortly after Ventus dropped down in his armor. After a quick dismissal, he looked at Terra with a silent question and pointed at Aqua. Terra shook his head with a grin before handing an excited Ven his mug of hot chocolate, who joined him in waiting in anticipation.
As though she heard a cue, Aqua slowly stood up and fanned out her arms before cupping her hands together. Large bubbles popped in around her, absorbing the rain from different points close to her. Rainfell descended spinning in front of her, glow becoming brighter and its wielder matching it moments after. Opening her eyes, Aqua twirled her keyblade and began to move in her usual gymnastic-esque routine.
Ven and Terra never could stop being amazed at their third's ability to control the bubbles to bounce around while doing her routine around the courtyard. A flip here, a slow cartwheel there, and a pirouette with the bubbles ending with a bow to her unknown audience, Aqua let herself relax and brought herself back up.
Her eyes instantly met her friends, who were sipping their warm drinks, failing to not make eye contact.
Giving them a cheerful smile, she hummed the unsaid question to them as she approached them, popping the bubbles when she got undercover. Terra gave a thumbs-up, while Ventus gave an extra excited applause and then high five. Reaching behind Terra, taking the hidden thermos filled with her own warm drink, Aqua gave a nod in thanks and the trio finished their drinks along to the relaxing sound of the rain.
Rainy days always brought back sad memories from those dark times. Roxas wondered if he should ask Sora about it at some point. However, all he could do now is just stare somberly out the living room window at the heavy rain slamming into it, cheek in his palm. Xion was sitting next to him, sharing a large sheet between them, and was entertaining herself drawing on self-made foggy sections. She'd been at it for a while now and made small versions of himself, Axel and Sai–Isa! It still takes some time to get used to that name.
Speaking of.
Hayner was annoying Isa-twitching eye being a dead giveaway-with trying to get a story of the Organization days out of him. Roxas thought he might have to save him before he triggered Isa's 'Moonacy' as they dubbed it. Meanwhile, Pence was showing Axel how to use the TV and all of its functions better.
The twilight town gang was all here in their home. The rain caught them in the middle of doing some odd jobs and Axel decided to let them all in. Olette wanted to pay them back even though none of them expected anything, and went into the kitchen with Isa to make something called 'Hot Chocolate Tradition', whatever that meant.
Olette stepped out of the kitchen with a tray of mugs in her hands. She stopped by everyone one at a time and they picked up a mug with a 'thanks'. Roxas picked his off the tray and stared at the liquid inside. It was hot, but the sheet covering him and Xion made it bearable to hold; the steam made his eyes water a bit, but there was a delicious smell coming from it.
Roxas took a sip and jerked back, his tongue stinging from the heat and he kept it out to cool while he grumbled a bit. Looking up at Xion, who giggled and pointed at Pence who was softly blowing at his cup to cool it. They copied the action and managed to take a better sip and their eyes widened from the delicious warmth flowing through their bodies.
Rainy days never sit right with Roxas after what happened, but this new 'tradition' brought to them by their friends could bring better, happier memories to take comfort in as he thinks back on them on future rainy days.
Wow, this took a few days extra than intended and I can't believe the word count went this high. Good to know I can make something at decent length I guess.
At any rate, same drill as before, Lemme know if I pulled this off decently enough, Paragraphs too big, I hate when it's too long? Too short? Shoulda handled the vibe better? Especially the first section. The next chapter will have dialogue, promise. Hopefully, I can get it out soon too.
