When Two Become One Chapter 1
Eight days before the comet's arrival, the atmosphere of a quiet life at the monastery was turned upside down. Before the week was out some of the inhabitants will ultimately be embroiled in deception, mystery, and battle. And who could have known that Geoff, the orphan stable boy at the monastery, would be a key player in revealing the deepest secret of what is truly in a dragon's heart.
Inside the stables, under the guise of doing his normal daily chores, Geoff is currently practicing drills for his nonexistent combat skills against a makeshift adversary. One made of wood, buckets, rags, and sacks. The closest Geoff has ever come to a real fight in his sheltered life.
Eventually, Geoff becomes distracted. He catches sight of soldiers and knights making their way through the monastery grounds. Not often seeing soldiers behind these walls, abandoning his duties, Geoff rushes out of the stables onto the walls in order to get a closer look at them. Geoff leans over the wall watching them go by.
As Geoff goes to track their progress further, he is intercepted by our dead Friar Peter.
Raising a quizzical and reproachful brow, Friar Peter said "Wishing to be one of them won't get the stables cleaned any faster."
"Where do you think they're headed all dressed up like that," asked Geoff, eyes longingly trailing each knight down to the last one at the back of the line.
Arms crossed, Friar Peter said "They're off to the castle to honor Lord Osric being sworn in as the King's chief advisor."
"The castle," said Geoff, grinning broadly as if he can imagine himself there one day along with them.
Friar Peter then leads Geoff away intending on returning the boy to the stables where he is supposed to be.
"I suggest you get back to the stable before the Abbott catches you around," warns Friar Peter, wisely.
"I promise I will have the stables scrubbed cleaner than the Abbott's table by Vespers. And, Friar Peter, I will even clean that old dungeon for you, if you just unlock it for me," said Geoff, cunningly.
Truth be told Geoff has been trying to get inside to explore the dungeons ever since he first arrived here. Much to his displeasure, Geoff hasn't been permitted to step foot inside those tunnels. Only select members of the monastery are allowed to enter. Those with specific tasks he's been told.
One such person is stepping inside at this very moment.
Amalthea.
She is an orphan girl around the same age as Geoff. Only she's lived here in the monastery here entire life from infancy while Geoff has resided there for a few years. On one hip she is carrying a basket filled to the brim with mending and embroidery she has to finish. Removing a key from the folds in her dress Amalthea unlocks the door, slips inside, and relocking it behind her.
Waving an arm in her direction, huffing in irritation, Geoff said "I don't see why Amalthea gets to go into the dungeons and I don't. It's not fair."
Catching part of the conversation Amalthea snaps her eyes up toward the indignant Geoff and sticks her tongue out at him. Then upon catching sight of Friar Peter she ducks her head in apology and embarrassment she continues on her way.
Kindly, Friar Peter sighed "I will tell you a secret about that dungeon. There's nothing down there that can transform you into a knight. You're a good boy at heart. If you work hard and practice humility, you'll be a fine stable master someday."
Friar Peter gives Geoff a consolatory pat on the shoulder, departing to attend to his own duties. Geoff watches him leave, the smile vanishing from his face the moment Friar Peter is out of sight. He then approaches the doors leading into the dungeons, wrapping one hand around the bars.
"I'll be out of here long before I'm any kind of stable master," murmured Geoff, stubbornly bitter, eyeing the sword hilt he sees sticking out behind some stone.

By the way whose been watching House of the Dragon? I am so in love with Prince Daemon. He is a dream. Matt Smith was the perfect person to play that character. Similar to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool no one could've done it better.
