Chapter 16: Dark Storm Brewing (part 1)

"Get hold of it!"

"Shit! It is getting out!"

"Hold on! Hold on!"

"Ahhhh!"

"What kind of monster!?"

"It tore him apart!"

"Quickly! More restraints!"

"Why can't we just kill it?!"

"We got orders! Dammit! Light weapons are useless! Hold on to it!"

Watching from behind the safety glass, the chubby fallen exorcist watched his creation with satisfaction.

Some of the Fallen and his exorcists might fall, but in the end, he will have his results.

"Even in this early stage, such potential…." He bit his lower lip in excitement. "A simple human turned into this. I wonder what would happen if we used it on something more potent."

Down in the containment cell, five fallen soldiers and many more exorcists struggled to get a hold of something that was once a simple civilian—a mere human without any particular skill, heritage, or even meaning. One of the many they kidnapped so that he could conduct his twisted experiments.

"It is a grotesque child. But no matter, once I reach a satisfactory result, I will make sure to care about the visuals."

The restrained creature struggled, its lower body thin and shaky but still standing firm. Its upper body grotesquely inflated with muscles. One hand thicker than the other, back crooked and hunched. It was gnawing on the restraints with its sharp needle-like teeth to tear them apart.

"Ashen failure? Should I call them that? Or a twilight abomination?" Indeed, with the skin that unnaturally turned ashen colouration, the veins that glowed with twilight essence, those names that came to his mind. Their mutated, asymmetrical appearance made them fitting of such terms. Oh! And those endless abyss black eyes, with golden divinity flickering in them like some wild firefly, it all just made this being even more terrifying!

"Shit! It got out! It got out!" Suddenly, the raging creature broke free and turned towards the reinforced wall — which hid the twisted exorcist. The being wasted no time tearing its bindings, sprouting grotesque, torn wings that looked like some ethereal rags filled with horrifying eyes and faces.

"Gleaaaahhh!"

Its soul-tearing screech forced all the guards nearby to grab their heads and scream in agony, collapsing before they were brutally torn apart.

"My, my…"

The creature jumped towards the hidden observation booth, almost like it knew who hid there. The man who did this to them! A hateful person! It wanted to tear him apart at all costs!

"Aii!" Unlike Valper, the Fallen lady who stood on the crazy researcher's side, jumped back, instinctively conjuring her light weapons.

"Crafty little dear…." Before the abomination could reach and tear through the reinforced alloys and the magical membrane, guns fueled with magic and technology sprouted from the walls, and aimed.

"Gleaaaahhh!"

Even this horror couldn't resist for long against their overwhelming power and calibre! Installed directly to ward off such escape attempts, they repelled and pummelled the creature for several long seconds.

"Gaah… gahh… kill me…"

The monstrosity gurgled in pain in a distorted tone, tears pouring from its dark sockets, nailed to the ground. It seems some humanity still lingered in its broken form. Their body was mangled, but they started to recover bit by bit. Missing parts growing back, holes slowly closing on its body, joints and bones cracking in churning sounds joined again.

"Oh, dear..."

After the turrets put the creature down, the security forces equipped with night black futuristic armour flooded the room, putting the restraints on the beast once more. They had to work fast; else, the slowly regenerating monstrosity might start rampaging again.

"You crazy bastard!" The lady on Valpers side exclaimed, less than pleased by what kind of things the crazy man grew down there.

"What? Don't like my dear?" The crazy ex-exorcists grinned mockingly, savouring the fear of the Fallen girl.

"Valper-san, I hope I don't have to remind you that wasting Kokabiel-sama's precious manpower and resources is ill-advised — Especially for something so volatile as this… thing!" The busty woman with lush black hair glanced strictly at the chubby man. Her two pairs of wings billowed with disgust; even looking at the creature below repulsed her. It was something that shouldn't exist, in Gods or any other being's domain or law!

"Oh! Don't worry about it, dear Hanabiel. It is all in order to create the ultimate weapon for our Lord."

The one below was not his only victim; he'd used many more for his terrible experiment. Men and women. Adults, the elderly and even children. The only thing that mattered to this twisted man was the result.

"Besides, if nothing else, these dears can always be used as cannon fodder. Don't you agree? Imagine what kind of havoc they can wreak once we throw them at the enemy's lines!" He almost hyperventilated; even imagining the scene filled him with elation and satisfaction!

"That's if they don't turn on our people first."

"I assure you, we will find a way to control them."

"Make it so, or I will have to put you down. I hope I don't have to remind you what happened to those who failed Kokabiel-sama's expectations."

"I am well aware of what happens to those people." Valper Galilei sighed, lowering his head. "The promised results will be delivered in time. A weapon for the Lord to win his war." And for him, a way to produce and make perfect sacred sword wielders, Who can easily surpass even the originals. A method for him to use those weapons, just as he always dreamed. A dream this cruel world robbed him of!

"Now then, if you excuse me, I have a date with fate." Raising his beeping device, a twisted smirk crept on his face, leaving behind the strict office lady.

"Hmph! Crazy bastard…"

Scene Change: Fallen Capital: Kokabiel's office:

Meanwhile, in the fallen capital, Kokabiel sat in his office, reviewing the information they managed to recover from the broken fallen they captured.

"If we could find this being and play her against the other factions…" Ever since he first watched the extracted memory, he only thought about this option. It became almost an obsession that scratched the back of his skull constantly!

The newly reignited war against the other two factions needed weapons. Weapons like Mertinia, tools like that being! Anything that can gain an advantage and earn them total victory!

"Our sources say that thing appeared in the middle of the desert, somewhere in the human realm." The site of her appearance is currently monitored by none other than that bastard Azazel's forces.

"How surprising…" He spat!

According to his information, they dig without rest, searching for any possible clue. Yet, the only thing they found amidst the ruins were the traces of some twisted ritual conducted by some shady organisation. There is no concrete info about it, only that it meant summoning some entity. A being that seemingly turned against the ones intended to control and bind it.

The ritual text was utterly foreign, almost like they were from another world entirely! Even the experts are clueless as to what their function or meaning was. Only one thing was sure; those symbols radiated power, might which shook him to his core.

[Kokabiel-sama. You have a visitor.] Came the soft female voice of his assistant through the intercom.

"Who is it? I am busy."

[It is Azazel-sama, and Vali Lucifer.]

Just what does that bastard want? Is he here to sniff out his plans? Are they already aware he is sniffing around?

"Let them in."

No matter; he will play along, for now. Two can play the game.

"Ah, Kobi! Long time no see. How are you doing?" Like usual, his fellow Fallen leader was cheerful; mockingly, he might add — like always.

"Azazel, what are you doing here?" He sneered. They had been on bad terms for a long time — Ever since the man became a coward and withdrew their forces in the moment of triumph!

"He was our most fierce warrior, yet, his mood turned in our hour of triumph." What brought this sudden change, he had never figured out.

"What? Can't I visit my fellow fallen brother?"

That mocking smile! Is he just here to play around? The man had a hard time keeping himself contained.

"I doubt someone of your status and responsibilities would have the time to do that. Or are you once again avoiding them? Ditching all of them for Baraqiel and Shemhazai?"

"Hmm, maybe?" Azazel winked playfully.

"Tch!"

"Chill out! From time to time, we must stop, pick a flower, and just enjoy life!" The calm, happy and dismissing behaviour of this man really infuriated Kokabiel.

"Is that so?"

"Yup!"

"Hmm… why not do it elsewhere, then? If you can't see it, I am quite busy at the moment. Unlike you, I take care of my responsibilities as the leader of our people." Giving a look to Vali, the teen just scoffed and turned his head away. Albeit, his eyes met the girl's for a moment, who leisurely sat on the couch and read something humans called "manga".

"Why did Azazel bring along the boy?" If he had to guess, as a deterrent, or just simply to mock him? He was a troublesome opponent with that dragon sealed inside his Sacred Gear. Even Kokabiel recognised that.

"How disgraceful! Taking in a half-blood brat like him." True, he did the same with Mertinia, but she was a different matter. She was just like him, carved to take revenge for the injustice brought on her life. Wronged by people she trusted — just like him! A quality which makes her worthy of considering a partner in this business of theirs.

"Now, if you excuse me!" He wished to return to his work or at least force Azazel to make his move — the second option was preferable.

"In this game, the first who makes their move is usually the one who loses."

"You know, little birds chirped a few things. Interesting intel about you and your current, ongoing business. Shady deals…"

Finally, he took the courage to reveal the reason for his appearance! Good!

"Ah, and which one, if I may ask?" The first score was his. But he needs to be careful now. He can't allow himself to be revealed! He is too close to his goal to fail now! "As you know, I have many ongoing projects. You need to specify."

"Very well. Then I will specify it for you."

"Please, do so."

"You know, there are strange rumours, details about your agents being seen in devil territory. Does it ring a bell?"

Does he know about it? All his plans will be revealed before their time? No! He can't panic! He needs to play his part, and everything will be fine!

"Which territory? If I may ask? As you know, we all keep agents in areas that belong to different factions, all to keep our eyes on them — Just as they do the same with us. It is part of the great game."

"You know well which town I am speaking about."

"Unfortunately, no…" Almost looking bored, Kokabiel leaned on his fist.

"It is a settlement with the name of Kuoh. Sounds familiar? Hmm? In Japan, in the human world?"

Azazel was strangely specific, increasingly leaving behind the playful, mockingly subtle tone he used to use. It was almost like he knew about his activity there.

"Hmmm…" Kokabiel acted as if he was trying to remember, typing on his keyboard for a few seconds.

"Ah! That? Yes! Now I remember. To my knowledge, a group of rogue fallen intended to destabilise the peace between the three factions there — Fallen, that acted in your name. I needed to ensure everything was under control there, so I dispatched a few of my specialists so that no such thing would happen again."

"How nice of you." He didn't like how Azazel squinted his eyes, his suspicion evident.

"I am sure he suspects my plan. Is he planning to confront me directly? Or is that bastard just playing around?" Thinking him inferior, on top of this, stupid, unable to recognise his game? This act even more infuriated the fallen leader!

"Is there any problem with that?" Yet, he reined in his emotions; he needed to keep his facade! Let Azazel fail first.

"If your intentions carry no harm, nothing. Regardless, I ask you not to sniff around in that territory; let the devils handle it. For the sake of all of us, order your people to leave."

"You are strangely direct today. Is there a problem? Or, are you trying to hide something?"

"I only ask you, for the sake of our race… there is no ill intention behind my words."

"Of course…." He almost laughed! Like an old man, their de-facto leader was starting to tremble! Oh! How he savoured the weakness he showed!

"Good, in that case…"

"I also have a question since you are already here." Two can play the game. Azazel played his cards; now his turn to do it!

"Yes? What is it?"

"Lately, I received an interesting recording about a creature. A creature appeared near a destroyed excavation site. A place your agents swarmed recently." Pushing the button, Kokabiel projected out the location. "Do you have any information about it? About the creature that appeared there? It stirred quite the amount of destruction."

With another push of a button, the being who left devastation in her wake also appeared, grinning madly in the middle of the destroyed landscape; around it, death everywhere.

Anyone who approached her with ill intentions was torn apart, either by an invisible force or one of the many grotesque "maw wings" sprouting from her back. Divinely eldrich chains binding and rending flesh from bones! All are working synchrony with lethal efficiency, doing a terrific job, swallowing the attackers without remorse!

That being! Even Vali raised his brow, watching the recording with some surprise. It was too familiar to the thing that escaped Azazel's lab!

"Where did you get this recording?" Now even Azazel was interested. Sweat already appearing on his forehead, and his eyes squinted suspiciously, almost angry.

"This scene… We extracted it from one of our Fallen brother's minds. The poor soul was so broken he could barely speak — Disoriented and mad. We did our best to bring him back, but he committed suicide. These are his last memories, escaping from that site you are investigating so vehemently, sparing no cost. Tell me, what is that thing?"

Kokabiel grinned, seeing his rival's face going from cheerful to concerned. An emotion that really entertained him.

"Is that thing a threat to our people? Answer truthfully, please."

Why did he reveal this information? Of course, to corner the man!

He surely knows about this probably has further information about the creature. Referring to the safety of their people, he can force him to reveal any additional information about this twisted, "godly" being.

"…"

"Well?" He gloated in his head! Seeing the sudden change on his rival's face filled him with a joy he hadn't felt since he mascaraed both angels and devils during their great war!

"There are things we shouldn't disturb, Kokabiel. Even we, who God loved the most."

"So you know what it is? Care to tell? Or are you saying your secret project is more important than the safety of our Fallen brethren?"

"The safety of my people is why I ask you not to investigate this matter further. Leave it behind for the sake of all of us." The unexpectedly darkening expression Azazel offered made even Kokabiel surprised. Just what had Azazel found that scared him so deeply?

"No! It is just a play! An act to dissuade me from investigating the matter further! You will not swindle this prize from my grasp! Not this time!"

"Hah! So the Great Azazel is afraid? How curious!"

Vali tensed up hearing his stepfather being mocked like this, something everyone in the room recognised.

"And what do you say, Vali Lucifer? Wouldn't you be the first to investigate a strong opponent who can challenge you? Are you not curious what this being has in store?"

"Who said I didn't do it already?" Huffed the teen with all confidence.

"Vali!"

"Hah! Is that so?"

"Yet, unlike you, I am not afraid of facing possibly stronger opponents than me."

"!" The vein popped on Kokabiel's forehead, the man slowly emerging from behind his table, his body burning with his stained holy aura. "You have some nerve talking to me like this, you half-blood cur. Didn't your mother teach you to respect your betters?"

"!"

"That's enough," Azazel interjected, feeling if the two continued their verbal jab, this would evolve into an all-out fight!

"Hmph! How typical, the peacemaker. The one who stopped the war just before our victory, and now, even refuses to notify us of matters that concern all of us!"

"I would rather say I ceased hostilities before more lives were lost, just like I intend to do now, but think what you want."

"Naturally…" Kokabiel, of course, didn't agree with his compatriot, but he also agreed this verbal battle would lead nowhere.

"Kokabiel, I kindly ask you. Stop investigating this matter, and call back your agents for your own and our whole race's sake. You have no idea what powers you are playing with!"

"And what if I refuse?" He sat back in his seat, confident in his own moral victory. "Are you hiding something, dear "friend"? Want to keep this secret for your own greed? Want to hold a possible weapon from your fellow Fallen — Something that might gain us an edge? Securing our future?"

"I would rather say I made a deal to keep you all safe and to keep us all alive. This is not something we can control! I ask you again, stand down!"

"And what if I refuse? Will you stop me? Confront me?"

"If I had to, I would take the necessary steps. Yes…"

"Hmph!" An open threat? This was very unusual from the usually subtle Azazel.

The governor really wanted to keep him away from this something. But he will not relent! He will have his prize! Mere threats can't keep him at bay!

"My warning was given, if you continue your path, I can't help you. All will be on you, and you alone. And I assure you, it will entail consequences you would rather not pay, nor our people." This warning, combined with the man's grim tone, was chilling. Even Kokabiel furrowed his brow. Just what made the fearless Azazel so concerned? Should he really consider his warning? Even he can't put up an act with such credibility!

"No… it is something I must find. A weapon, surely! Something I will use against our enemies. Azazel is just a coward who is too afraid to use this being for his own gain! For our people's sake, I will make this step! Our future will be glorious!"

"That a threat?"

"No, it is just a warning… my only one."

"Oh! Fine! Duly noted." He answered only as such, dismissing the man with just a wave.

"Now, if you excuse me, I am a busy man. Someone must govern our people while you play with your toys."

"Yeah, toys…" Scoffed Azazel, almost offended. "Vali, we are leaving."

"Hmph!" Giving one last look to Kokabiel, then the girl, the two left, leaving the man's office.

"What will you do now?" Asked Mertinia, licking her lollypop. "Will you just give up? His warning sounded quite serious."

"Far from it. This just proved there is something in that city Azazel wants to keep secret. We will step up with our plans and snatch them before him. Prepare yourself."

"Finally, some action!" Jumping up, the girl was giddy; she started to get numb between the constant practice and sitting on her bottom. Ever since she got manhandled that badly she itched for revenge!

Scene Change: Early in the morning: Kuoh Public Park:

"Haah! Haah! Haah!" Aika Kiryu greatly regretted her decision.

Her body was drenched in sweat, her lungs burning, and her heart beating faster than ever. Muscles are screaming in pain, demanding to lie down and do nothing for a few days!

Why did she make herself endure this arduous training? Why would anyone do this?

Her biggest reason? Recently she recognised she had gained some weight. As a prideful girl who was proud of her thin figure, she wanted to get rid of the excess weight as soon as possible!

"Damn, those tasty cakes! It is all Gillian's fault for giving it all to me for free!"

Also, training alone was just lame, and Gillian seemed to be the right person to ask for help regarding this problem of hers.

"Yes, knowing her accomplishments during PE lessons and glimpsing her muscled, worked-out body under her clothes, it was no question she was the right person for the job!"

If Aika had to train, she would do it with someone she knows. A person who has experience in this area. Also, doing it for free as a private trainer costs a fortune!

"Also, I never saw her naked. She never showers with us. Maybe I'll get a chance to peek?"

Naturally, Miss Glasses by no means played to gather scores from her own side. She just appreciated the beauty nature offered.

That's exactly why she wondered: why Gillian never showers with other girls from their class.

Is she just shy? Or was she ashamed of her body? Or something else?

"If you ask me, or any other girl in the school, she has nothing to be ashamed about. Her ratios are just perfect! I can say I am quite envious of her figure." The boys also droll after her whenever she walks past. And even many asked her for a date — something several girls without boyfriends already complained about.

"No wonder. She looks exotic with that dark skin, double-coloured eyes and white hair. Not to speak, she is a real head-turner. Almost like a freaking anime MC!"

And this already describes her second goal of asking for Gillian's help.

Barely anyone knew anything about this relatively new student — aside from the basic things she had already told them.

Aika hoped this mysterious classmate might blurt out one or two things while they exercised. It seemed to be a good bonding ritual. The only problem was she miscalculated the cost — greatly, she might add.

"I will die…"

Just what did she think when she came up with this stupid plan?! This was just the first day, and she already wished to back out! She felt like her body could give up at any moment!

"How much… longer?" Panting, she only managed to utter this much before her leg gave in, and she fell forward.

"Ugh!"

"Eh? But we only started the warm up!" Gillian stopped, jogging near her and effortlessly putting her onto the nearby bench. It was almost like she moved her without effort.

"Damn! She just swung me like I was a weightless doll! Just how much strength does she have in those arms?" Her arms might look thin and elegant, but she felt they carried strength enough to break bones easily.

"Says the one… with monstrous stamina." It was a bad idea to ask Gillian to exercise with her! Her worst idea ever!

But she should have expected this much from her. During her short stay in their school, the girl broke almost all the records that were put before her! Indeed, her miscalculation in this matter was astronomical!

"I should have figured out something else. For example, a day out? Or a slumber party?" Yeah, that would have worked out better — But it would be less effective in the long term.

"I would still struggle with my excess weight."

"Umm, maybe we should take it easier little bit, then? You also need to build up your endurance, I guess."

"You don't say…!" Glasses' eyes ticked, gulping hard from her water bottle. "Kuah! How the hell are you so fit? I don't understand! Just what kind of training did you have beforehand?"

"Do you really wish to know?" The exotic student furrowed her brows.

"Yes…" Kiryu nodded with a strange expression.

"Very well, I will tell you then. But don't say I didn't warn you."

For a few seconds, Gillian remained silent. Starting with an odd pace which made the waiting even more straining.

"Well?"

"First, you must ensure you stick to a strict training regime, no matter how hard it is. You may think: what does it hurt to have a day off? But that's the wrong mentality."

"Understandable…" That made sense, even for Aika. Albeit, what followed threw her off the rail immediately. "And?"

Gillian's expression hardened to the utmost limit, turning to one that may expect when someone discusses a serious matter. Something people would only see in a JoJo anime.

"100 situps, 100 pushups, and squats followed by a 10-km run. Every single day!"

"Eh!?" That face just made it all weird; it is like her face contorted into something different. Is she mocking her?

"Of course, eating three times a day is important. For breakfast, a banana will do. Don't use air conditioning to strengthen the mind. You may wish you to die in the beginning, but even then, you need to push further! Even when you vomit blood, or your leg collapses under you, or your arm makes those weird creaking sounds, and your hair falls out, you need to stick to your regime! Keep your goal before your eyes!"

"Hair fall out?" What does she sputter about? This was nonsense!

"You need to train so hard your hair will disappear. Of course, if afterwards, you want hair, you need to train your hair bulbs too to the limit and beyond! You don't know how much it sucks to be bald! Everyone makes fun of you." She massaged her head, slightly messing up her rich hair.

"Are you serious!?"

"Yes, absolutely!" Gillian nodded with arms crossed, her expression resolute.

"Don't shit with me!" Kiryu expected her to take this seriously and tell her the secret! Or at least a good way to train herself! And what did she get? Some nonsense that may only work in a cheap superhero anime or light novel!?

"What the heck!?"

She was so disturbed she even threw her bottle towards her face — which she caught without difficulty at the last moment.

"See, just as I said, you will not believe me regardless."

"Are you surprised?" Snarled the girl with a grimace. "After such an explanation?"

"Very well. I will tell you the truth."

"Finally!"

"In truth, I am a Dark Lord from another world! The great tyrant who burned the nine worlds to cinders! Flayed gods and subdued infernal entities to her will. I was summoned here by a few morons who tried to bind me to their evil bidding. But they failed, and I ditched them, deciding to take a vacation instead."

"This is even worse than the previous stuff. You just pulled this out of your ass, which manga is it from?" Just now, Aika showed a not-so-amused expression.

"As expected, no one believes the dark lord from another world."

"Are you surprised? Come on! Tell me your secret!"

"Oh! Then, what about this one? I was raised in a corporate orphanage managed by some evil organisation. We were drugged, abused and beaten daily in order to eliminate the weak. Tests were constant. Around me, most of the kids died or lost hope and were taken away to work camps. Day after day, similar horrible stuff happened until I reached the age where they offered me a contract. I did horrible things to get out and survive. Lying, even making others disappear. Satisfied?" Clenching her fist, Gillian's expression darkened. It was so believable; it almost made Aika accept the story.

"And this is just sad. Also, you left out your handsome brother. Where was he in the story?"

"Really? Damn! I must have forgotten him." Gillian rubbed her chin in a contemplating expression. "But well, he may not even be my brother. Just one of my many creations. You know, I am also the Dark Lord from another world. I can easily create servants like him."

"Pfu…! This is getting worse at the moment. You are not really creative, are you? In that case, conjure me a handsome lover. Pronto!" Glasses snapped her finger, urging.

"Hey! At least I try! But I don't mind, don't believe me then. Just watch what you wish for…." The player pouted with crossed arms.

"Of course, I believe you. In that case, I am the goddess of love, affairs and sex. You can bow before me, "Miss Dark Lord". Cower before my divine powers." Grinned Aika, playing along, pointing to the ground while leaning against the bench's backrest. "For my first act, I will make you wear something extra girly. Oh! And we will find you a proper lover. That's important too."

"Pft! As if! I used to hunt greater gods than you, flaying and robbing their essence to make equipment — Also for fun and experience. You have no power over me."

"Dude! That's gross! Don't ruin it."

"Well, forgive me then, Miss Love Goddess. That's what a tortured dark lord like me used to do."

"You are the worst." Kiryuu offered a contorted expression. Half sour, half amused. Something Gillian couldn't really place.

"What?"

"Nothing." The student shook her head.

"Ah! Whatever! Just remember this: people can change themselves. That's why they are strong. Just when you feel you have reached your limit, push further and break it. That's the gist of it. Use this mentality in your training, and you will improve. A little bit more every day, and you'll see the results soon."

"Easy to say for you, Miss Perfect…." Deadpanned the student.

"Well, that's my advice. So, want to continue? Or too exhausted already?"

"Well, I mean. I am pretty tired. But we can do a little bit more. Of course, if you want to finish without me, that's fine too. No way I want to stand between you and your beefy body."

"Well, I already did my daily route earlier. So, it is up to you." Gillian cracked her neck slightly. "In truth, I did a pretty straining workout today. My usual training partner really went rough."

"Don't joke with me! I never in my life woke up so early, and she was already up?! She already did a round?!"

EARLIER!? They freaking come out to do this at dawn! Before the sun even appeared on the horizon! When everything was still dark! How did she do this even earlier!? "Wait?! What training partner? Is she training with Kiba or someone else?"

Another mystery to solve! Damn! More came when Kiryuu thought she had enough secrets to unfold around Gillian! Her work will never end, it seems.

"What?"

"Nothing." Aika really can't place her anymore. "In that case, let's call it a day for now. It will be hard enough to start my shift like this." Her hands already trembled, her legs shaky. It will be a miracle getting back to the café and serving the guests. She was all drenched, already feeling several pounds lighter than before. "So, after we get back, can I use your shower? I am kinda drenched."

"Oh! Sure. Or, if you are too tired, you can call it a day off."

"Oh! Thanks!"

She and Rorschach were good bosses. Aika can even say she never had a better job.

"Not as though I had many before."

The workload was distributed between the employees fairly. The pay was good. Also, she can eat as much as she wants.

"Yeah… one of the reasons why I gained weight."

But above all, she can wear a cute maid uniform which she can redesign however she wishes! What's not to like?

"Not to speak, Gillian's brother is unimaginably handsome. Every girl would kill just to be around him." As everyone in the place can witness it, he gained quite a fanbase ever since they opened the place. Half of their customers are just there because of the man!

"Ehh… what's with that lewd face?"

"Nothing." Aika wiped away her dripping drool. Just remembering the man's smile and kind words made her moist.

"And let's not forget about that beefy body…"

Damn! She needs to focus on controlling her impulses, or else she will lose touch!

"Gillian!"

"Great… what I needed." Gillian didn't even need to turn around to know who had approached them in the next moment.

"Is that Sona-senpai, the student council president, and… Tsubaki-senpai? And that girl? Ah! I remember her from that time."

With two more glasses-wearing girls approaching — and a third glassless with short stature — a strange team started to gather in this park.

"What's up, Blue? How are you doing? Oh! And hello there, young miss! It's been some time."

"Blue?"

"She sparkling with blue energy, don't you see it?" Gillian pointed at the student council president, a gesture that made Aika rather confused. "Also, her name means blue."

"Oh! I see!"

"Who is this girl? Why are we even here?" Asked Ravel, annoyed, looking around, somewhat wary.

"She was the one who beat your brother." Explained Sona calmly but no less uneasy.

"Eh? Her? But that guy was a hulking warrior! There is no way it was her!" The youngest Phenex shouted out, confused. "There is no way someone like her can really beat Onii-sama like that!" That thing in the ORC was just pure luck and dirty play. She doesn't accept it as a win.

"She wore that armour to protect herself from your attacks."

"I still don't believe you. That man had a terrifying presence. But she? She is just normal at best! A completely meaningless human!"

"I can hear you, you know?" Deadpanned Gillian.

"Geh!"

"You promised to come to my office to discuss that thing." Ignoring Ravel, Sona returned her attention to Gillian.

"A what?"

"That thing… you know about that accident."

"What accident?"

"The sword and the challenge." Sona was clearly upset; she even failed to suppress her twitching eye entirely. It seems that trying to be subtle did not play out as she wanted. Or is it just the effect of Gillian playing around? One can guess.

"Oh! Those! Yeah, I kinda forgot about them. And those are two things. You should refer to them as "accidents". Not single, but double." To put her point straight through, Gillian raised both hands; indexes open on each.

"You cannot be serious…!"

"So, what about it? You wanna speak?" Cracking her finger with her index, all the devils around cringed, hearing the loud pop.

"Yes, but not here."

"What's wrong with this place? It seems peaceful."

"Too open."

"It is about some perverted stuff?" Looking around, Gillian slid closer to Sona, whispering in her ear.

"N-Nooo!" And the devil girl can only shutter in embarrassment. "It is nothing like that!"

"Oi! What's this about? Speaking about swords and challenges. Is it some kinky stuff?" And Aika's wild imagination just made it all worse, coming to the same dark conclusion.

"Ah! It is just a few cosplayers who are too vehement with their play. That's all." The player, of course, came up with her own wild explanation.

"I know their kind. Truly a desperate bunch." Hummed glasses. She met her fair share of that kind of people. Truly, they were the worst.

"Are you crazy!? You can't just dismiss such a threat!" Ravel though doubted this was the same person who participated in her brother's Rating Game; she still found it too much they just dismissed such a threat!

"Those are not just some cosplayers, and you know it well!"

"Umm, guys. You're starting to scare me." The only real civilian in the group moved her head between the two sides, starting to lose the trail of this story. "What's the matter with this challenge stuff? Was it real?"

"It is complicated. Would you please leave and let them discuss it?" Asked Tsubaki politely, moving before Aika.

"Eh? Sure."

"It is not important." Defied the decision of the player. "It is not like it is any secret anyway. As Rorschach told me, Kiryuu-chan saw that challenge scene too. So, it is the same if we discuss while she is around or not. No?"

"I guess; it doesn't matter." The Sitri heiress gave in with a slumping shoulder. Maybe, if she gave a little, she would gain a little. Right? Perhaps, if she reminds Gillian that others can get hurt, she will come to her senses and listen to her reasons.

"Ah? That? Yes, I was there too. What of it? Isn't that just some show?"

"It was a real challenge." Muttered Sona with a darkened expression. "A challenge from someone who is very dangerous, with a lot of connections."

"What?! Then those people?" She knew it! The supernatural was real! Or is it not? Hearing this conversation, her mind was torn between the two options.

"Alternatively, they are very fond of their role-play." Something she also wanted to be part of — With a meaningful role, she might add.

"That's why you need to come with me to discuss how to proceed with this already fragile situation." Not to mention the accident with the sacred swords just made things more complicated and dangerous!

Their relationship with the church was already strained. And if Gillian is truly a true wielder like Cesare said, the church will surely want her under their yoke.

"Which means they are willing to go that far to start a war to gain her to their side."

Combine this with the situation that came after her interference in the rating game, and you get a volatile situation to handle.

"Preparing her for how to handle the situation is crucially important." If they want to keep their cherished peace intact, they have to take the necessary steps, and handle the delicate situation as discreetly as possible.

Cesare already warned them after Gillian left that the church would make their steps as soon as they gain intel about her. Warning them that the higher-ups of his organization are not likely to accept a "no" for an answer.

"According to the exorcist, the church is struggling to replicate the potential of the first generation. They can only reach partial success despite their best effort. And what do we get? It came to light that Gillian might have more potential than the original wielders!"

All this meant that the strange girl before her was an asset like that! Someone both sides would want on their side!

"First Dominus, now this. If the two sides met, they would kick the already boiling and rolling cauldron!"

"Nah! I'm not really in the mood to go to your place. There is a table over there; let's discuss the stuff there."

"Very well." Sona adjusted her glasses. "Tsubaki, if you may."

"Of course."

The queen of the Sitri peerage left, proceeding to set up a few measurements, so no other civilians would wander into the middle of this discussion.

"It can't be helped. This Kiryuu girl is already here. I will be careful with my words. In the worst case, we will just wipe her memory."

"So, what's next? Who was that guy? You know, the challenger?" Taking a seat, Gillian asked.

"You don't know?"

"Well, Rorschach spoke about it. But I was just not interested and forgot about it."

"!" Sona was taken back for a moment. Is she really that dense? Or is she just playing around like usual?

Does not matter; she will explain the situation to the best of her ability. Maybe if she explains it properly, she will listen to reason.

"Haah! His name is Dominus Al'Igna Paimon. A noble, the youngest son of the prominent Paimon family." Sona explained while they took a seat, going into great detail in just a few minutes.

"Fancy…"

"He is not a person who can easily take defeat. In fact, by beating Riser, you made him lose quite the coin and prestige."

"Riser?" Aika questioned, confused.

"He is my brother." Huffed Ravel with crossed arm. "Someone, who was defeated by Rias Gremory — with a lot of help from her, if what the Sitri said is right." Though, she still doubted that. That handsome guy in that bar was likelier to fit the person she met.

"Wow! I want details!"

"In short. Red got engaged to Ravel-chan's brother while she was a baby. Since Red was not fond of the idea, and the wedding date was ever closed, she challenged the guy to some game to cancel the engagement. She struggled to prepare her group for the coming challenge. That's when Big Red sought me out to help. Am I right, Blue?"

"Well, roughly, yes. That's the gist of it."

"Big Red?"

"Rias's brother."

"She has a brother!?" Now, this was info no one in the school knew! Aika was right! Hanging around Gillian earned her much luscious intel!

"She has the gall to call the Maou that way?" Fumed Ravel in the background. If she had not known her situation, she would have shown her how to treat the heroes of her people!

"To call Lord Sirzechs that way? Scandalous…"

"I would appreciate it if you did not call Lord Sirzechs that way." Added Sona sweating.

"Hey! He told me it was fine. He is much more chill than you or his sister. Both of you are always so serious! Chill a little, or you will earn many grey hairs before… how long do you live anyway?"

"That… That's not important!" Blushed Sona greatly. "It is not appropriate."

"Whatever…" Shrugged the player. "So, what about it?"

"I would like it if you apologise. Just an apology; that's all that's needed for Dominus to back off from the challenge. Maybe, you even need to prostrate yourself a little." A little bit of humiliation was definitely better than being demolished by someone like him.

"I refuse." Gillian leaned on her palm with a grin. "I bow to no one. Not men, not kings, not gods, nor the Maou. Nor anyone who wants to yank me around." She had enough of that for a life or more.

"Tch!" Just what did this human think of herself?! "She is too full of herself." Alas, that is what Ravel thought.

"Haah, somehow, I knew you would say this." The Sitri heiress shook her head, almost knowing she might receive such an answer. "In that case, I can offer you protection. Our family is influential enough. We may even find someone in your stead to fight. But if I had to guess, you would refuse this option too."

"You know me too well." Gillian winked and formed guns with her fingers. "Anything else up your sleeve?"

"Just one thing!" Gulped Sona. "I challenge you to a game. You lose; you do as I ask."

"Wow! That's so sudden." Muttered Aika.

"Oh! And what would you like to play? Should we settle this with our fists? Or your group against me?" Giving Tsubaki and Ravel a passing look made the girls shudder. Just what the hell was this human to incite fear in devils just like that?

"Or something else?"

"We play chess." Steeling her heart, Sona announced.

Honestly, she had no better idea. Watching and analysing Rias' match with Riser, also calculating Gillian's recent exploits, she concluded that she would rather not risk her people in such a bargain.

"Hmm, very well. The mind needs to be trained just like the body. I accept. The question is the price. You announced yours, but what do I get if I win?" The player hid half of her face behind her folded fingers, her double-coloured eyes piercing the Sitri girl's own.

"I…" Sona froze. That was definitely a possibility. Gillian has won against her multiple times in the past. No! She can't think like this! She will win this time! Yes! She will do her best and overcome her! This was her best option! The only weapon in her arsenal that can earn the needed outcome!

"I practised a lot. I even rewatched the recordings of our past games! This time, I will triumph!"

"As if… Pff! Everyone knows Sona Sitri is unbeatable when it comes to chess." She even beat her past finance, cancelling their betrothal contract!

There is no way she would lose to a simple human — no matter how exceptional her opponent is.

"Is she really that good?" Questioned Kiryuu, worried.

"You can bet on it!" And the Phenex girl boasted with pride.

"Oh boy! What did Gillian get herself into this time?"

"Very well, I take up your challenge. Do your best, Sona-chan. But if I win, you will fulfil three wishes of mine." With a playful grin, Gillian unfolded three fingers from her fist.

"Is she some genie, or what?"

"Very well…"

Reluctant, Sona accepted the deal — though she had not much choice in the matter.

And thus, they set up a small chessboard Tsubaki carried with herself — quite strange if you asked Kiryuu.

"Who the heck carries a chessboard?"

A grand battle started between the sides, one which even the simple girl with glasses can only call legendary!

Scene Change: Outer Space:

Io is one of Jupiter's grandest moons. Its surface is usually dotted with heavy volcanic activity. All dotted with many plains and mountains, even grander than Earth's tallest point.

Its closeness with Jupiter and the constant gravitational pull of its other sister moons makes this satellite always face the same way towards its father planet, beaten and yanked with violent gravitational turbulence of the two sides.

Thanks to this gravitational tug of war, this place was one the most volcanically active places in the solar system, with constant earthquakes all around, making it a volatile and dangerous place to be.

Despite this, its surface was solid, with barely any debris floating around the moon, usually, at least.

Yet, strangely, now the surface, which was scarred but usually smothered slightly with the silicate magma that bubbled to the surface, was filled with deep craters, deeper than normal people could see or dared to think!

Once humongous mountains were pulverised, in their memory, only their chunks made the onlookers remember their previous glory.

In the heavens, thanks to the constant gravitational pull, innumerable amounts of debris floated, blotting even the skies — The dead remains of these once mighty mountains!

Some of them fell, giving in to Io and Jupiter's mighty anchor, but some remained above, answering or unable to decide whether to accept or not the call of the two sister moons' relentless call!

One can even say the surface of Io was pulverised completely. It almost looked like gods battled here, satiating their endless bloodlust. Yes, the scars that covered the fabric of reality above Io were sure evidence of this! A mighty battle that left wounds in the very fabric of space-time, constantly bleeding, only slowly healing.

"Fuhahahahaha!"

In this lifeless planet, which in nature has not allowed a speck of water to remain intact. Chilling in a deep crater that was slowly filled with silicate lava, a figure lay, grinning wild, almost exhilarated.

"That woman! She really rattled me well!"

The young man's body was half destroyed, filled with holes and grievous injuries. Wounds anyone normal would have succumbed to long ago.

"That's what I get from underestimating her. And when I thought I got the upper hand….! Fuahahaha!"

The figure's once handsome face contorted in the shape of a dragon. His abyss scales glitter with gold. Yet, all lost their previous lustre, charred and pallid from his injuries.

"I never felt so alive!" Releasing an almost maniac cackle, he tried to get up, only to grab his side in pain. "Tch!"

Though he was unwilling to admit it loudly, he knew well he should have asked his opponent to heal him after such a fierce "training" session.

"Damn it! And she even offered it." Yet, his pride as a warrior didn't allow such an easy way out.

No. His very nature was against accepting such help after an obvious loss!

"That was totally not cool." Slowly sitting up, his face and body gradually started to return to their human state. All of it revealed the marred yet still handsome characteristic of a young adult with long shaggy hair. A mane which mixed blonde and black locks, similar to his heterochromatic eyes.

"Haah! I almost died." Yet, he did not feel regret in the slightest. More so, he was giddy deep inside, wishing to experience more of what that being could offer.

"A simple human, you say? As if I believe it after this!"

He hissed, raising his arm; it still did not start to regenerate like it usually does.

"I am too injured? Or did she use some technique? What is this trembling in my body? What was that form?"

"Damn…" Sitting in the middle of the deep crater, lava started to seep underneath him from the cracks. "Hmph! Cozy…"

Strangely, the heat that could evaporate normal beings didn't seem to bother him. More so, it was almost like he found the heat quite pleasant. "I am still too weak."

'Crack!'

His bones and joints popped loudly, grimacing as he pushed them back to their intended position.

"Ummm…"

"Hmm…" Only one thing disturbed his peace and ever-slow recuperation. A strange little girl, who appeared near him, watching him with some solemn curiosity.

"Hmm…"

Her face mirrored total emptiness, just like her abyss black eyes, those like her hair swallowed all manner of light, making her quite a strange sight to behold in the vast void all around.

"..."

A gothic Lolita, in the middle of a dead planet watching a beaten man, a dragon being? Quite a strange sight, indeed.

"Who did this?"

"Not your business." Strained, the man stood up, cracking back his broken arm and pushing back his ribs to their place. Seemingly he was not even surprised by the appearance of such youth near him. "Tch."

The girl followed him in the air, floating after the beaten figure.

"Who did this?"

"…" He ignored the girl's sullen voice, still drifting towards the crater's edge.

"Who was it?" Asking the third time, the man glared at her, revealing his teeth that started to grow slightly sharp — expressing his irritation.

"Tell me. I need strong people to reclaim the silence."

"Piss off…!"

The girl tilted her head, rarely seeing this man expressing such emotion.

"You are weak now. Should I use force?" Dark snakes started to materialise around the Lolita, snakes that danced with the lights of nothingness. "I will do so if necessary."

"Do as you wish. A warrior never betrays his oath. If I had to fall, I would fall fighting!" The man shrugged, almost like he ignored the immense power the girl released. His form once more takes draconic traits. "Besides, I always wished to test the might of the great Ophis."

Immense auras clashed between the two sides, creating shockwaves around the devastated landscapes.

One is filled with the void of nothingness; the other is an evil aura filled with a golden brilliance, a power that struggles against the girl's immense presence. It was clear who would be the victor…

"Damn! What a mess!" Their clash of authority was disturbed by a sudden voice appearing in this wasteland.

"A fierce battle fought here, no doubt."

"Oh! This place definitely needs some tidying. Nyah!"

"You…" The rattled man gave a spiteful glare at the appeared people who hid behind a barrier; else, they would die from the extreme environment outside.

"Yo! How are you doing, Crom-kun?" The young man behind the barrier grinned. With his handsome face, blue eyes and black hair, he was indeed a lady killer.

"Need some help? I see you are struggling."

The youthful man joked.

Mixing the gakuran he wore and the strange spear he carried over his shoulder, he really resembled a tough guy.

A student who beat bullies in his free time. Someone who drew people just because of his sheer charisma. Even looking at him, it was evident he was born to be a leader.

"What caused such destruction?" The man near him crouched, inspecting the debris on the ground. His spectacles betrayed his nature as an academic figure, making him the scholar part of the group. "Gods clashing? Possibly. But why?" For a moment, his gaze moved to the beaten figure. "I see… dangerous indeed. Was it the two of you?" He asked, curious, still wary of the clashing sides.

"Nyah! Whatever it was, I hope it was a man. Surely, our children will be powerful!"

Cackled sultry the woman in a revealing black and gold kimono. She was a true beauty, with raven black hair, two big cat ears and a two-headed cat tail behind her back that swayed back and forth curiously.

"I don't need the help of a mere human…." The draconic being spat some blood.

"Oh! But why are you so hostile? We are only here to help!"

"What are you doing here, Cao?" The short girl asked, giving the appeared group a passive look. "If you want to help, subdue him and make him speak. Reclaiming my cherished peace from the loud one is all that matters."

"To stand between the great Ophis and his… excuse me, her prey? I wouldn't dare. Anyway? What's with this form? I liked you better when you were disguised as an old man."

"What form I take has little meaning for me." The girl lowered her head. "An old man back, a little girl now. Maybe something else in the future. It has no consequence. I am infinite incarnate."

"Hmm, I see. Very intriguing."

"Nyah! Now, he is gone." Pointed subtly the cat lady where the dragon stood previously.

"How unfortunate." Chuckled the man named Cao.

"…" The little girl just glared at them, subtly shaking her head. "Find him and the one he fought. Fail, and I will punish you." she declared

"Of course, your majesty. Of course."

Ophis does not even pay heed to the man's slightly sarcastic tone, or she doesn't even understand sarcasm — which was a possibility to all who knew her.

Giving a slight nod, she burst out in a mass of abyssal snakes, disappearing back to where she came from.

"You should not mock her." His fellow human warned Cao, sweating nervously.

"Nyah! I think it was a courageous move. What do you say, Cao-kun, a night together? Hmm?"

"Maybe if you work hard." He chuckled, naturally not considering the offer. But the woman probably knew that well. She was teasing him like that, and it was fine with him. "Georg, if you would please bring us back. We need to find someone."

"You wouldn't consider…!?"

"Why not?" Smiled the man solemnly. "After all, it was the great Ophis' order. Kuroka, what do you say? Up to a little scouting operation?"

"As always, nyah! I love going to new places!" Shouted the girl giddily.

"Just what we needed." The man named Georg lowered his head. Expecting trouble will arise from this adventure.

Scene Change: Kuoh: In the Park:

"Oh boy! No matter how I look at it, Gillian is going to lose." Kiryuu was not a chess expert, but even she could see Gillian's situation was quite disadvantageous.

"Just give up; I already won!" A subtle grin was on Sona's face.

This was the first time she saw this always stoic and dutiful student president this way. Literally, she never smiled. Yet, that cocky smile on her betrayed everything!

"Now then, as it is decided, we should…"

"A moment…" Gillian started to search in her pocket, her phone ringing, playing a strange tune.

"Are you…?"

"Moment… where did I put it?" Searching for a few long seconds in her bag, she looked quite calm, almost like she had dismissed her situation on the board.

"Is she…?"

"Oi! I got you!" She finally found the device after rummaging through her stuff. "Hmm! I see… I see… what did he do!?"

She jumped up, almost flipping over the board. She went through quite a sharp turn of mood under just a few seconds.

"Wha-what happened?!" Something bad? Has Dominus already made his step, getting impatient with Gillian not answering his challenge? Sona feared the worst after the girl's calm voice turned into what she could only describe as disturbed!

"Goddamit…!"

"Is something wrong?"

"Sorry guys, I need to return to my shop. Some idiot broke the front window and the furniture."

"Eh? Who was it?" Aika asked, baffled.

"A moron…" Gillian shook her head with a snarl. "It seems; we can't open today."

"Do you need help?"

"No, I will solve this issue. You can go home and rest today, Kiryu-chan."

"Do I get paid at least?" Sweatdropped the girl; she really needed that money.

"I guess it is not your fault some idiot fell through the roof. Still, no work, no money, I guess."

"Not the window?" Tsubaki muttered, finding it all strange.

"Ughh!"

"But we will discuss this later. Maybe you can get some bonus if you work hard when we reopen."

"It can't be helped." The student huffed disappointedly. "But I guess I am hardly usable in this state. Maybe it is better to rest today. Damn, Gillian! You slavedriver! How will I walk home? I can barely move my limbs…!"

"Well, sorry, guys, maybe next time. See ya!"

"Wa-Wait!" Sona suddenly jumped up, on her face sourness mixed with fear! She was so close to winning! They need to finish the match!

"Huh?"

"Do-Don't you want to finish the match?" Sona gulped, sweating intensely as she felt the victory in her grasp.

She knew the rules too well. If the opponent brings good enough reason to retreat from the match, the whole thing will be like they never played in the first place!

"I did my best! Using every tactic and trick in my arsenal! I refuse to let this victory go!"

"Ca-Can't your brother go and check it? Or that other girl?" She shuttered, something even Ravel recognised.

"What's with her?"

"Sona practised hard to reach this level. Ever since Gillian first beat her in her own game, she never really recovered."

"Sh-She beat her? That means?" The Phenex girl was shocked, knowing well the details between Sona and her parents. Hell! The whole underworld knew the deal! Many even foolishly challenged the Sitri heiress just to earn her hand — thinking of her as easy prey.

"Yes, that's the case." Lowered her head to the queen of Sona.

"Other girl? You mean… Mittelt-chan?" Aika blinked, recognising who they spoke about. "Oh, man! That's not the best idea. Her way of handling people is rather… explosive." During Kyryuu's short time working in Gillian's café, she experienced how little people skills that short girl had.

Why she even works here? She had no idea. Neither, how come a girl of her age doesn't attend a school like her.

"Yup! I rather not leave something like this to her. As for Rorschach, he is away, dealing with some business."

"I-I see…"

"Sona-chan! Sona-chan! Don't be gloomy!" Gillian patted her face. "Smile, like you did while we played. It fits you better than that ice queen façade."

"Wha-What?!" The girl went beet red, shuttering uncontrollably. "I… but… I would never!"

"But if you want to finish. That's fine by me. I have a few more minutes to spare. Well then! Is it my turn? Right?"

"Ye-Yes…"

And thus, the match continued, alas, not for long, because in the next few minutes, when Gillian made her step, Sona's eyes bulged, almost falling out from their sockets as the tide suddenly turned.

"What kind of move was that? If you move there!?" A sudden realisation dawned on the Sitri heiress, once more scanning the whole board. "I-It cannot be… How did I miss that?"

"Pinch of a chance, Sona-chan. Pinch of a chance!" Gillian pushed her index gently at her forehead.

"Pinch of a chance?" Muttered all the girls. Where did Gillian get this?

"Pinch of a chance!" Gillian pulled her thumb across her nose, smiling, almost cocky. "Overconfidence is no good, Sona-chan. You rushed at the moment I showed weakness where there was none. You really wanted this win, huh?"

"Guh!"

"What happened?" All three girls watched the sides, unable to figure out why Sona suddenly went pale. She was winning. Even the figures on the board implied her strategic and positional superiority. Then what happened? Everything turned upside down in just a few rounds!

"Thank you for the splendid game, Sona-chan. You really improved." When Gillian patted her head like a small child or pet, Sona was completely blank. "Let's play once more. I really enjoyed this game. Amongst all, you are one of my best matches…"

"I-I…" Sona immediately blushed, thinking about what this sentence may be hiding. Alas, right away realised what would be the consequence of her loss!

"Bu-But…" The pureblood devil looked between the board and the strange human, flushed and distressed. "If you leave now? If you accept that deal…" She doesn't even want to imagine what happens.

"Ah, that?" Pondering for a moment, the player remembered the stake of this match. "I almost forgot about that!"

"Yo-You forgot?!"

"Yeah, I kinda enjoyed myself, so I forgot about it. It happens, more often than not. Maybe I am growing old…" She pondered for a moment. "Hah… But whatever! Rorschach is already left to deal with the issue! Better not worry about it anymore." Uncaringly, Gillian scratched her neck.

"Wha-What?" Sona can't help but freeze. How can she be so calm saying this? "Yo-You sent your own brother to his death!?"

"Eh? Death? What's going on?" Aika questioned, confused. Now she completely lost it!

"Oya! Oya! He asked for it! He basically begged." The player defended her decision.

"Kch…" The audible grinding of Sona's teeth can be heard; her shoulder trembled in frustration and rage. "You know what you have done? I asked you to wait!"

"And I did wait. Rorschach insisted on it."

"He will die!" No chance left; she needs to call her sister — A favour she will pay dearly for later. Yet, she is willing to make this sacrifice.

"Possible, but not likely." Rolled her eyes at the player.

"This is not something you can solve by sheer luck or strength! This is…"

"Big Red is with him."

"A-A what?!"

"Sirzechs-kun is with him." Repeated Gillian, adjusting her clothes after Sona so violently grabbed into them.

"Th-The Maou?!"

"Yup! The same." Gillian's subtle smirk just made her expression all mocking.

"H-How? If that's…" Even if it's true, she should have come to her, not Rias' brother.

It was embarrassing to admit, but she was her finance. No matter what happens, it should be Sona who offers her help — even if she needs to call a favour from her dear sister.

"But maybe it was my fault for not telling her until now."

Such testimony needs commitment and great courage, something Sona greatly lacked — currently. It was still too embarrassing to do so!

"My parents are already nagging me. They even told me if I don't introduce the "lucky" one, they will tell Nee-sama about it."

But how should she proceed with this? She was confident in many things but lacked the guts to do this simple thing? She was truly ashamed.

"Oi!? What's that face?"

"N-Nothing…" Shuttered the girl, ear to ear red.

"Anyway. He owes me, as one Maou to the other, I called a favour. Easy, right?"

"Hmph! Unlikely! How would the great Maou owe to a human?" Ravel scoffed! There is no way someone like her knows the Great Satan!

"But that's the truth. Why can't anyone believe that I am the great dark lord from another world?" The dark-skinned student was greatly depressed. Despite telling the truth, no one believes her.

"Do-Don't you dare to mock our culture, human!"

"I mock nothing. Haven't I told you? I am the great Dark Lord from another world!" Gillian took a pose, spreading her arm. Her shoulders slumped, her locks above her eyes dropping an eerie shadow over her whole face.

"The one who blew up the Bifrost and burned the nine realms to ashes in her crusade. The one cursed by both infernals and celestials. Hunting them and skinning godly beings daily. Ah! And let's not forget crashing the nine realms together and into Ginnungagap! Truly a magnificent firework that was!"

"Oooh! That's really nice roleplay!" Aika clapped with shining eyes. "Still dark and morbid, but somehow fit the narrative."

"Thank you, Kiryuu-chan. We can come up with something nice for you too later."

"You bet it!" With a thumbs up, the only normal human winked.

"Why does it sound familiar?" Tsubaki hummed; it was like she had read something similar before.

"Ugh!" Ravel basically lit up in a rage, hardly tolerating such mockery. The very air around her started to heat in her anger.

"Chill out, Ravy-chan. Do you want to get sprinkled like your brother?" Gillian recovered a bottle from her bag, pointing the sprinkler at Ravel. "We can play, but I will win. Sprinkle… sprinkle..."

"Ugggh! I AM NOT A CAT!"

"Lady Ravel! Please, don't take her seriously. You're better than this."

"Tch!"

"Anyway… I need to go."

"But…"

"Oi! Don't make that face! You know what? I will drop by later once I have dealt with that stuff back home. Just to ease your clenching tummy. Got it?"

"I…"

"I guess. Kiryuu-chan, I will call you once we are open once more."

"Oh, right."

"By the Maou…" Seeing the strange girl leaving, Sona sighed, defeated. "Why can't she listen to me, just once?"

Scene Change: Underworld:

In this almost gloomy landscape, dotted with both beautiful scenery, as well bordered by untold horrors, two figures walked towards their goal.

"Thank you, Lord Sirzechs, for escorting me on this important mission. It is truly an honour the great Satan answered our humble request."

"Ah, don't even mention it. It is the least after… after your sister helped mine. And please, simply call me Sirzechs. Like everyone." Though Sirzechs forced a sour smile, he still remembered the bet that led him to this end. "I am sure this little favour will not cut it. But let's proceed with small steps."

With the strange robes, paired with the overly big ceremonial shoulder pads Sirzechs now wore, it really made him reminiscent of some figure of authority from a fantasy novel. One might even find his current Maou uniform too flashy or distasteful.

"By the way, could you please convince your sister to give back my car?" His son always asked where that car was. Not to speak, he starts to run out of excuses when his wife questions where that unique piece has disappeared.

"Hmm, I can certainly try. Though, I don't know how effective it will be. My dear is too stubborn for her own good. Also, she loves that car."

Just seeing her master's grin when she drove that machine filled the servant's heart with joy.

"Ah, just as expected." The Great Maou already felt that getting back his cherished car would be harder than he imagined.

But why did he even ask? Maybe, he hoped the brother's commanding word would sway that cold-hearted girl?

"But I guess he is the same as me. We just can't say no, or deny our little sister's wish."

It was shameful, but the greatest weakness of the Great Sirzechs Lucifer was his little sister, his son — and, of course, his wife's soothing breasts.

"Hmm…"

"Is something wrong?" The Great Maou raised his brow, seeing his fellow brother glancing around, almost like he found the landscape strange or even familiar.

"Nothing, those statues are just… odd." As they walked along the neatly paved road in the middle of a great park or rather a grand garden, several statues dotted the landscape, depicting strange figures. Some were demonic, some less so, almost unfit for this place.

"Ah! Yes, we are in the great garden of the Paimon clan, heading towards their main residence. Don't be surprised; many have similar feelings walking through this place."

In truth, even Sirzechs found it creepy from time to time — despite how magnificently beautiful it looked.

"Yes, almost like someone is watching." Rorschach can't help but compare this feeling to something familiar. Something he knew too well.

"Indeed, your senses are great. We have been watched since we teleported into the Paimon family territory." Truth be told, he would have teleported directly into their main residence.

Unfortunately, several things make him reluctant to do it.

"It is highly inappropriate to teleport into the house of someone." Even if you are one of the Four Great Satans or are friends with the next head of the family, it was highly disrespectful to do so. "Secondly, ever since Lady Paimon joined house Paimon through marriage, we are unable to enter their territory uninvited."

It is said since the "Siren Witch of Armageddon" — as some of her fellow devils called her mockingly — cast her powerful magic around her new domain, no uninvited guest can enter without the family's direct consent — be they gods or otherwise.

"You know, coming here by yourself is quite risky."

"Oh! But that's why my sister asked you to come with me, isn't that right?"

"I suppose…" Sirzechs's eyes ticked slightly. He doesn't mean like that. "But I digress for a human to come to this territory, handing over a refusal of a direct challenge? Quite a risky move." He was there when this man asked Gillian, basically begging her to let him overtake this mission in her name.

"She wanted to come personally, but her brother convinced her to hand over this mission to him. Basically begged."

Looking at him, seeing how calm and collected he was, Sirzechs considered he was not aware of the grievous danger this task implied.

"Well, that girl called me directly to help out. A wise choice, and also, good for me, as I owe her one less favour." Though, Sirzechs still tried to figure out how to get back his car. Regardless, with this move, he felt one step closer to reaching that objective.

"That might be true. But wouldn't you do the same for your sister? It is the duty of the elder to shield their cherished ones from harm. Isn't that right?"

"I see. Indeed, I would do the same for my Rias and my beloved son." No matter the danger, or the overwhelming power of the enemy, the Satan of Red still would do his best to overcome it for their sake.

"Even so, I ask you to step back if the situation turns bad. As I promised, I will provide full protection."

"I can only promise I will hand over the contract as intended. The rest is up to the challenger."

"That's… enough, for now, I guess." If nothing else, he hoped he was less reckless than his sister.

From what he heard from Rias, Gillian casually dismissed her warnings, even mocked the opponents, who even a little bit threatened her.

"Well, until now, she managed to survive, even overcome the odds. That by itself is commendable. Or miraculous?" One can guess which. "Yet, I doubt her luck and human limitations will last her for long."

Like many, Sirzechs was as well aware that some humans are capable of incredible feats —some may even surpass devils. Yet, they are almost always the descendants of some hero or the possessors of some Sacred Gear. And Gillian? Well, she might be resourceful, even unnaturally crafty. But all her feats can be measured by human standards until now.

"Well, I asked a few friends to investigate her family. The results were… fuzzy." Some pointed out inconsistencies in her background; some said it was fine, and even a few wanted to find something odd.

"No matter what's the case, I will continue to keep my eyes on them." To protect his dear Rias and to crack this mystery, this was the perfect opportunity to take notes about Gillian's brother — who they barely had any info on.

"Is something wrong, Lord Sirzechs?"

"Ah! Nothing, just lost in my thoughts. And please, just call me Sirzechs, as I asked you."

"Certainly." Gently, the man nodded, only his eyes widened, reaching a wider place with a beautiful fountain in the middle.

"Now that…"

Above the fountain, two figures floated. Two devils, if he had to guess, entwined in a graceful waltz. The dance of passion!

A beautiful, tall, slender woman with a graceful figure and humongous assets. Her flowing hair almost reached the ground, and her four horns curled forward and back.

Before her, a short, stocky man with smaller horns and slicked-back short yet spiky hair.

The two gazed at each other intensely! Almost like a goddess looking down from the heavens, filled with love towards her knight, who stared back with just the same feeling and intensity.

It was like they were almost alive; both were burning with love and passion!

"Now that's something…!"

"Ah! Indeed, the park of the Great Waltz. According to many, this was the first time Lord and Lady Paimon danced, and they fell for each other right away. Believe it or not, according to some, when they first met, they couldn't stand each other…"

"…"

"Out of nowhere, Lady Paimon appears and saves the young son, the last heir of the Paimon family. Of course, the man was unwilling to admit he needed help! Truly a stubborn duo."

The Maou chuckled silently, remembering that part from the movie. It was truly a comical part. A movie, which made even his dear wife show emotions.

"If you ask me, the details of their story are a little over-romanticized by some women. Still, their love and life are the topics of many books and movies even today." Just like the story about how he and Grayfia met and eventually fell in love.

"But I guess the media grabs any attempt to make money."

"Very interesting. So you say, this is the Lady of the Paimon household?"

"Former Lady. Not long after she fell into a coma, Lord Paimon renounced his title and handed over his son the duties of leading the house. Ever since he stays by her side."

"Truly faithful…" Rorschach can't help but smile, feeling some kind of kinship with the short figure.

Another person approached them while he wondered why the woman looked so familiar.

"Ah! Lord Sirzechs. What a pleasant surprise!" Before the Maou can call the attention of his fellow to continue their way, the approaching butler disturbed this serene scene. The same vampiric servant who brought forth the challenge.

"Ah! It is good to see you again, Abigail-san."

"Just like you, my Lord. Just like you… Please, forgive our impudence in not welcoming you properly. Or in time…"

"It is not a problem; you must be busy with your duties."

"Hmm, indeed. Our duties have been increased recently with the new family member soon arriving. Everyone is busy with the preparation."

"In that case, I wouldn't bother more than necessary. Also, please, give my sincere gratitude to the lucky ones."

"It will be done." Nodded the vampiric butler. Some pride was still visible on his usually cold face. "Also, you and the rest of the Maou are always honoured guests. We will always find time to guide you."

"In that case, we will be your care."

The pale vampiric figure turned his attention towards Rorschach, giving him a profound, scanning look.

"Is this man with you, my Lord?"

"I came as an escort, in fact. He carries the answer of the challenged party."

"I see." Hummed the elderly butler.

He looked like he found it strange the contract was brought back by an errand boy and not sent back by the automatic notification function. But who was he to judge? It was not his business to question the choice.

"Follow me then, please. I will right away lead you to Lord Dominus. You can hand over the answer personally. Or, if you wish, I can hand it over to him myself. Your choice."

"I would like to hand it over to him myself. If you don't mind."

"Very well. Considering you are with Lord Sirzechs, I am sure Lord Dominus will accept you."

Giving a deep and elegant bow befit to his status, the butler made a sharp turn, leading the duo towards the challenger.

"The sword held elegantly in his hand, the other bore endless might. Never faltering, even in the face of overwhelming odds. Even before divines! He got back up, body and soul cracking and in strain, but will remain. Standing proud, facing his enemies once again…"

He feared his character when he first read about him. But now, a few years older, he feels some kinship with him. One can say he became his favourite character. Someone that inspires him to push forth and never give up! Someone he strived to be!

"In her notes, he was called an anti-plot character. The one who shatters plot armour, for he stands above it. Overcoming even the divines and fate to reach his goals. Doing it all by sheer will, planning and determination. No miracle or blessing helping him in his quest."

Many found one of the "anti-main characters" of a certain series villainous, even a distasteful monster. Naturally, these people could not see behind the façade, which hid his true tragedy, unbearably painful past, and hidden agenda that drove the character forth.

"Some may question his goals and motivation…" Things that until now are not yet fully revealed and explored in the books. "But who read it carefully and give them some thought will see the true depth of his character."

The deep care he showed towards his subordinates and allies. The pure yet twisted love that is hidden under the persona and acts. The countless sacrifices he made and the will he showed in the books. All inspired the boy who was mocked and pushed around endlessly!

"And this was only the tip of the iceberg!" More details and traits are hidden, only revealed if the person explores more of his backstory. The backstory of the first ever dark lord! The one who inspired many others to take this path but can never rival the uncrowned king! The slayer of gods and divines! The flayer of eternity!

"His backstory most likely never published and revealed fully." All thanks to the current state of the writer. A fact that deeply saddened the boy. "The tragic past of the betrayed prince…"

Only his grandmother's notes remain. The only source may give some glimpse about the would-be magnificence of the forthcoming books and stories untold.

"Grandmother crafted deep lore behind each of her characters. Giving each of their goals and motivations. But the story of the Ashen Emperor and the rest of the six? They are truly detailed. Almost like she knew each of them personally."

The former Lady of the Paimon household left many notes that revealed many details of her coming stories and tales.

The boy wondered if she planned to give the Emperor his own book or two. Or more? Yes, her notes implied she has more than enough material for several books.

"There are many things yet unknown about his character. We barely know anything about his backstory. Or how he came to be the person he is now."

The story of the infamous anti-hero was far from finished. Not since the last book left the tyrant's storyline hanging in the air.

"He was wounded, broken, yet still not relenting. The will that kept together his crumbling body made the three goddesses of fate tremble, their domain shaking in uncertainty as he stood at the gate of finality…"

Standing proud before his humbled opponents, he said: You didn't disappoint… Under his broken blind helmet, his smile was clear. His horrific vision glued at our heroes almost like he expected this outcome:

"Just as expected… my dear strugglers, bring down the walls of divines, fate and plot!" The light in his only visible hollow eye is blazing with determination. A magnificent empyreal, bound to his oath. An oat he has yet to complete!

"Show me your worth! We will meet at the end of the road!" And just like that, he walked through the gates, leading to who knows where! Ascending to the realm of divines, he had yet to desecrate.

"Deeper than the deepest abyss. Deeper than the World Eater's dead body lies. Deeper than the roots of the world. Even past the core of the great void, Ginnungagap itself, his unbreakable will overcame them all."

Dominus smiled, reading the last appearance of the Ashen Emperor in the books. And after reading it, he can't help but wipe some of the gathered tears.

"Such a masterpiece…"

Deep in his study, the devil with blue skin sighed in satisfaction. No servant was present, not even the members of his peerage. Even for them, he wouldn't allow disturbing the moment of his sanctity.

"Compared to grandmother's work, mine really lacking…" His defeat was obvious when he glanced at the several pages he had written and the many crumpled papers near his desk. "If only you were here… haah! I wish you could help me."

If he thinks about it, he had no memories of her before her sickness pushed her into a deep slumber. The only real thing he knows, he learned from stories told by his parents, siblings and the rumours he heard about the Siren Witch of Apocalypse.

"Her title is so cool! I hope one day; I can get something similar." He disregarded all those mocking people. They were just jealous of the cool nickname his grandmother gained under her exploits.

"I thought I told you not to disturb my study time." His gaze slowly turned towards the beauty who entered his study, so subtle; even he barely recognised her presence.

"Yes, my Lord."

A tall woman with an exceptional look, wearing what looked like a business suit, almost similar to what Dominus wore.

"Please excuse me, but you have visitors, Dominus-sama."

If anything goes by her lush, purple hair, golden slit eyes and the four fox tails behind her back, she is a yokai, no question.

"Tell them to leave, and ask for an audience, like everyone else. I am busy with important matters." Under important matters, he meant: trying to come up with a proper plot for his own story. No more important thing was currently on his mind.

"I am sorry, but this can't wait. The Maou himself, Sirzechs Lucifer, came to see you. He is accompanied by another man, carrying the writ of challenge."

"He does? And with the Maou?" Just what's going on? "Just what is the Maou doing here? And with that human, I just issued the challenge?"

He issued no other challenges recently, so he had an idea who it was.

"Usually, these challenge scrolls come back through the quick answer function. It never happened before someone brought one back personally."

Just what does that human think about bringing it back here? Just how do they know the Maou? Moreover, how did they make him come along? Is this some ploy? Is the Gremory girl swaying her brother's head just to mock him?

"No matter, as a member of House Paimon, it is my duty to oblige my responsibilities."

"Tell them to wait for me in the guest room; I will be there soon."

"Very well."

"Just what I needed…"

The stocky devil muttered and, after a big sigh, started his preparation.

After all, he by no means wanted to bring shame to himself and his family by appearing uncouth before the Maou.

What kind of outcome will this meeting bring? Read forth and find out in the next chapter!
