A/N: We're starting to go a bit off script here while we learn a bit more about Thyra and her family. I hope I've managed to keep everyone in character! Huge thanks to Godric777 for their support and encouragement to keep me writing!

Thyra was silent as she escorted Elena away from the abandoned building, towards her emerald green mustang, leaving behind the bodies of Elijah and the Salvatore brothers. She knew that the older Original would be fine. He would wake up soon and would reach out when he was ready. Which would probably be once he had replaced his suit, a thought that had Thyra's eyes flashing in amusement. As for the Salvatore brothers, she knew that they would try to track down the doppelganger again. Which was why she planned to just keep moving. Tracking a moving car was virtually impossible, she was yet to meet a witch that was capable of it.
It wasn't until she realised that the Original was just driving the backroads, with no destination in mind, that Elena spoke up. The girl took a deep breath, curling her hands into fists before looking at the Original with determined eyes, "What are you planning on doing with me?"
Thyra's gaze flickered over to the doppelganger and she couldn't hide the brief flash of longing that crossed her face. Clearing her throat, the blonde looked back towards the road, cursing herself for her weakness, Thyra answered, "I'm not going to kill you, if that is what concerns you."
Elena frowned at this, "Don't you need me for the sacrifice?"
At the mention of the sacrifice, her twin's latest obsession, the Original rolled her eyes, muttering in old Norse, "Curse that sacrifice and all that it brings." When the girl next to her looked at her with wide eyes, Thyra sighed, "Carrying out the sacrifice is not exactly a priority of mine. Stopping Niklaus from doing so, is."
"But why would you want to stop the sacrifice?" the doppelganger asked, thinking deeply. "Rose said that both you and Klaus wanted to break the Sun and the Moon curse."
The blonde couldn't stop her snort of laughter, "Ah, is that what we are calling it these days? How quaint. I know that was one of Elijah's favourites."
"What do you mean by that?" Elena pushed, wanting, needing answers. Rose's words, back at the abandoned house, had worried her. She existed purely to break this curse, one that bound werewolves and vampires to the elements, because Katherine had refused to do so. And now she was learning that one of the people that she should be afraid of, didn't want to break the curse. Elena had to know why. And whether her life, and the lives of her loved ones, were truly at risk.
Realising that this conversation required all of her attention, Thyra sighed. She had hoped to get this over with quickly, to take the doppelganger to a safe location, until Elijah returned and they could find a way to ruin Niklaus' little scheme. But as always, her plan was not to succeed.
It was just fortunate that at that moment, she drove past a hitchhiker. While Thyra did not like it when someone else drove her car, she knew it would be easier than trying to explain the sacrifice and her family while driving. So the blonde pulled over, quickly speeding out of the car and in front of the young man. He couldn't have been older than 21. His brown eyes shone with innocence as he jolted back. But before he could get far, the Original reached out to grab his chin, keeping him still. With a muttered command, the compelled boy nodded and went to sit in the driver's seat. Content that it was sorted, Thyra moved around to the passenger's seat. She was surprised that the doppelganger hadn't tried running while she was distracted. But she appreciated it. Her plan would be so much easier to carry out if Elena agreed to what was needed.
Thyra opened the door to the car and beckoned the doppelganger out. The girl had a cautious look on her face but she climbed out of the car before settling on the backseat. With a satisfied nod, Thyra sped around to the other side of the car and sat down next to the doppelganger.
Content that this would work, the Original raised her voice, commanding the young man, "Drive at a steady pace. Just remember that if you damage my car, then I will damage you." When the car started moving again, the blonde looked over at Elena, "Now where were we?"
"You were going to tell me why you don't want the sacrifice to happen."
"Ah yes, well, really Niklaus only has himself to blame. He has repeatedly taken away the ones that I love, so, I will take away what he loves."
Elena frowned in confusion, "How does that involve me?"
"Well, Elena, despite what you may have been told, the sacrifice is related to breaking the curse of the sun and the moon," Thyra scoffed and shook her head at that. "That curse is just made-up nonsense. No, the true curse is on Niklaus and myself. Due to… interesting… circumstances, we were born from a werewolf bloodline. I'm assuming that you know how a werewolf triggers their curse?" When the girl nodded, Thyra continued, "Well, when we first fed as vampires, our curses were triggered. And because of what we were, an abomination, we were cursed, our werewolf side locked away."
"And the sacrifice is how you unlock your werewolf?" Elena asked, thinking it over in her head. While it did sound outlandish, she couldn't help but believe the blonde. There was no need for her to lie about this. And so, the doppelganger nodded, a sense of confidence settling under her skin as she continued her questioning, "Why don't you want to break the curse?"
"Niklaus… Klaus… my brother," the Original's lip curled as she fought her instincts to insult her twin. "Is responsible for the death of the woman that I loved and the betrayal of another one. Given the chance, he will continue to destroy any chance that I may have of happiness, as he has done with the others. So while I cannot kill him, I will destroy his only chance of happiness."
"Even if it means that you continue to remain cursed?" the doppelganger frowned in sympathy. Her quick mind had picked up the mention of them being family. It didn't feel as much of a shock to her as it should have done. The way that Thyra spoke of Klaus, it was the way that her father spoke of his brother. It spoke of a bond that was hanging by a thread, and that thread was of a blood connection that was deeper than most realised.
"I do not mind being cursed," Thyra shrugged, glancing forward at the young man driving her car. He was following her instructions to the letter, driving them to Richmond, without damaging her car. "It does not affect my life in any particular way."
"You… you mentioned others," Elena pushed gently. She didn't know why she was asking so many questions. But it was like something deep inside of her was demanding answers. It wanted her to get to know the dangerous woman next to her better. It was a weird feeling, one that she had lightly felt when she had met Stefan. But this was stronger. Stronger than she ever imagined. "Does that mean that you have other siblings?"
"If you do not count Niklaus, then I have three living brothers and three sisters," the blonde answered. Despite her instincts screaming at her that she shouldn't trust the doppelganger, she couldn't help but give her the answers that she requested. Thyra knew that this one could be like Katherine, that she could break her heart again. And the blonde had promised herself, that after Angelica, she wouldn't open her heart again. She just had to stick to that.
The girl thought hard before hesitantly asking, "Is… is Elijah one of them?"
Thyra raised an impressed eyebrow. She didn't expect her to work it out and despite her best efforts, the girl's cleverness was impressing her. Elena was proving that she was capable of putting two and two together and getting the right answer. With a short nod, the Original answered, "He is one of my older brothers."
"But you aren't upset that he is dead."
"He will wake up in a few hours. Of course, he will be frustrated that he was bested by a couple of baby vampires, but at least I was the only one to see it, and not Fiona."
Fiona? Elena wondered if that was another sister. The blonde was giving away more information than she had expected her to. And the girl wasn't sure if it was because she was planning on killing her before she could be used in the sacrifice or if she trusted her on some level. Despite herself, Elena hoped that it was the second option. She felt drawn to the woman next to her, there was something that called to her. Whether it was the slightly broken look in her eyes that broke through her shields every now and then, or the confidence that radiated from her. Elena wanted to know about Thyra and she wondered what that said about her.
As much as Elena wanted to ask about the unfamiliar name, she decided that there were more important questions to ask, so instead, she murmured, "Will Elijah want to sacrifice me for Klaus?"
"Oh definitely not," Thyra shook her head, blonde hair bouncing against her shoulders. "His only desire is to punish Niklaus, just like me. Oh, he might try to make a deal with you, for you to sacrifice your life so that he can kill Niklaus when he is weak. But he is not on our brother's side."
"Is that not your plan too?"
Thyra hesitated before she answered. For that was her plan. Until she looked at the doppelganger. And then she remembered her first love, Tatia, and her possible love, Katerina. But now, could she sacrifice the innocent life beside her? The one that looked at her with those big brown eyes, full of softness and kindness.
Eventually, the Original admitted, "It was. But now, I am thinking of looking for a different way."
"And if you can't?" the doppelganger forced out the question, curling her hands into fists on her thighs. She didn't want to know the answer. Because she could see it in Thyra's expression. There might not be another way to kill Klaus.
"Then I will just have to find a way for you to survive," the blonde sighed, a frustrated edge to her voice. "Unfortunately, my brother's magical elixir may be past its end by date. And unless you are willing to drink my blood beforehand, I may have to get creative."
Elena thought on that for a moment. She hadn't thought about turning into a vampire. Oh, she knew that it was irresponsible of her to have ignored the possibility, especially when she was still with Stefan. But if turning into a vampire was the only way that she would survive, could she take that step? Could she give up a normal, human life? She would never be able to have children, a family over her own. But was dying worth it?
"Vampire blood… is not out of the question," the girl replied slowly, still thinking hard. "Being a vampire is better than being a rotting corpse. Even if it does mean giving up so much."
"Well, I'll count that as plan B," Thyra nodded before leaning forward to tap an address into the satnav. There was no point in her taking over the driving now. She might as well let the kid drive them all the way before she disposed of him.
The rest of the drive was silent. Both of the ladies in the car were consumed in their thoughts. Elena was absorbing the information that she had learnt. Even before, while she was waiting to be handed over, she never imagined the truth about the sacrifice and the Originals. Nor did she ever imagine that she would feel so drawn to one of the most dangerous women on the planet.
She glanced over at Thyra, who was staring forward. She couldn't help but admire the way that she held herself, full of confidence. The sun shone in her blonde hair, leaving her with a blonde halo. It highlighted her high cheekbones and button nose. Elena had thought that she would never find someone more attractive than Stefan, but the lady next to her was proving her wrong.
Thyra could feel the girl's gaze on her, but she kept her gaze firmly ahead of her. Elena's face was an open book and she could recognise the curious look in her eyes. It was the same one that Tatia had before they kissed for the first time. Before they made love for the first time. Even Katerina had looked at her that way, before she played Elijah and Niklaus against each other. Each time a doppelganger looked at her like that, she got her heart broken. And Thyra refused to go through that again.
When the car pulled up in a parking garage in Richmond, Thyra sped out of the car. Before Elena could even blink, the Original was pulling the young driver from the car. The girl knew exactly what was about to happen and forced the car open desperately. She scrambled to her feet just in time to see the blonde's hands wrap around his neck.
"Please, don't!" the doppelganger called desperately. She knew that he was a lose end, that he could tell people that they had been seen together. But she couldn't bare the thought of an innocent person dying because of her.
Thyra glanced over at the girl; a considering look on her face. She remembered how Angelica had been the same. She couldn't bear for Thyra to kill the innocent. And then she was the innocent that was killed.
With an aggravated sigh, aimed more at herself than the girl staring at her with such wide and desperate eyes, the Original compelled the boy to leave and forget everything. He mumbled his instructions before walking from the parking garage.
Once he was out of sight, Thyra gestured for Elena to follow her up the stairs. The girl did so, glancing around. She wondered what she had gotten herself into. She wasn't even trying to run away. Despite her instincts screaming at her to flee, Elena followed the blonde. They walked up the stairs in silence until Thyra found the door that she was looking for.
With a pleased nod, she grabbed the handle and let themselves in. The doppelganger hesitated for a moment at the threshold, wondering if she had finally gone insane. She was about to willingly enter an unknown apartment, with an Original vampire who had practically admitted that she may end up sacrificing her to get revenge on her brother. There was no guarantee that she would survive. And yet, she stepped into the apartment, shutting the door behind her.
The first thing that she noticed was the sun that shone into the room. It cast a warm glow on everything that it touched. Including an unfamiliar woman standing by the window. She was talking to Thyra in a low voice but glanced up when she heard the clock of the door shutting.
The first thing that Elena noticed was the piercing blue eyes, so similar to the blonde that she had been travelling with. Dark hair framed a beautiful face, high cheekbones and a strong jaw. She held herself with a confidence that came from a hidden strength. And she knew that this woman was also a vampire.
"Elena," Thyra gestured to the lady beside her, who was staring at her intently through narrowed eyes. "Meet Fiona."
