Now that his head wasn't clouded by judgment, and jealously, the signs were obvious. He'd be surprised if this kit had even seen his first century.
"If you're not one of the Thunder Clan, what are you doing here?" he asked, crossing his arms.
Kagome elbowed him in the ribs. "Be nice. He was invited."
The kit flushed and rubbed the back of his head. "I was desperate. The exams are in a few days, and the information won't stay in my brain."
"Maybe if you'd stop sneaking around to see a certain someone," she mused, his blush only deepening.
"That's not my fault!" he whined. "Her brothers are scary. And you're the one who introduced us in the first place!"
Kagome shrugged a shoulder, completely unrepentant, then ruffled his hair. The interaction was more affectionate than amorous, but the image of the kit's arm wrapped around her shoulders on the bus was still fresh in his mind.
"You are not romantically interested in Kagome?" he blurted, regret instantly causing heat to rise to his face at their reaction. Kagome snorted and covered her mouth to stifle her laughter, emphasizing the kit's horrified expression.
"What? No way! She's like a sister." He rubbed the back of his head again. "Besides, Souten would have my balls if I tried anything."
