randomwarriorfan (Guest)- Thanks for the reviews, I really appreciate them. I update Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays if you just want to check on those days instead.
Now comes the day. Moving Out!
Pebble Heart awoke the next day after the Gathering. The sun shone brilliantly through the pine forest. Ashheart's kits had been newly apprenticed and were playing with Darkflower's older kits. Ratscar and Jaggedtooth watched them.
Once they had fully been accepted into the Clan, Shadowstar had given them and the other two clannames. Ratscar's sister was Snowbird and Mowgli had become Nightwhisper.
He watched as Boulder carried a frog to the nursery now. Snowbird was inside now expecting kits.
So far life in ShadowClan has changed and moved on fast and peacefully.
Looking around camp once more, he spotted Fernshade, Blackfoot and Flintfang gathered around Hollyflower outside the elder's den. Runningnose was with them too.
"What's going on?" He asked, trotting over. Hollyflower was calmly laying on her side but the warriors and medicine cat looked sad and worried.
"She's dying," Runningnose replied calmly after a moment.
"What can we do?" Pebble Heart gasped, ready to help.
"No, it is just my time. Nothing is hurting me," the dark gray and white she-cat murmured. "I've lived a long life."
Fernshade sobbed.
"Come closer my kits," Hollyflower rasped and they shuffled closer. "Flintfang," she began. The gray tom leaned closer. "Please stop blaming yourself for something that happened long ago because unlike others, you stood up to Brokenstar more than anyone else."
Flintfang nodded and Pebble Heart wondered if he should leave. He felt like he was intruding on a private moment.
"Fernshade, I'll take care of Badgerfang," Hollyflower continued. "You don't have to worry."
"But StarClan are mouse-brains," Pebble Heart meowed, ignoring the other's shocked looks. After all, they won't let my mother and friends in.
Hollyflower, on the other paw, rumbled a purr. "Yellowfang always said the same thing, but as long as I have cats like her with me, I'll be okay."
She then turned to Blackfoot, who looked nervous and meowed calmly, "Come closer. I won't bite."
Blackfoot slowly shuffled closer and yelped when Hollyflower pulled him down to eye level with her. "If you ever! Follow an idiot like Brokenstar again, so HELP me I will come back and haunt you for life, got IT?!"
Runningnose and Pebble Heart exchanged awkward looks as some cats looked in their direction.
"Yes ma'am," Blackfoot murmured.
"Good son," Hollyflower purred calmly as if she hadn't been threatening him earlier. "Shadowstar is a good leader. Listen to her and trust her…and trust StarClan too. I know they don't make sense sometimes but they're always watching."
After a while, they waited and she slowly yet peacefully passed without a pain.
Pebble Heart sadly helped prepare her body for burial as cats came to sit vigil. He'd miss Hollyflower. She had seemed like such a survivor. From Brokenstar's reign through the terrible sickness.
Even if can't fully trust them yet…rest in peace with StarClan.
"C'mon, Cloud Tail! If you swim like that how do you expect to survive floods?" Cloud Tail sighed as Fire Heart snapped at him for the third time that morning. They were practicing his swimming skills in a stream.
Brightpelt never berated him. The ThunderClan she-cat always seemed interested in his life in SkyClan and never said anything rude when he mentioned his kittypet heritage.
"Turtle Tail is your foster mother and she was great warrior. Your real mom got chased by a dog to rescue you. I think all your family are true warriors," she had purred once at a Gathering.
Sparrow Fur didn't like his interaction with her, Owl Eyes didn't seem to mind, and Pebble Heart didn't even know.
I still can't believe he's never coming back.
"Cloud Tail, pay attention!" Fire Heart snapped. Cloud Tail had stopped churning and was just standing in the water. He hung his head. Why did Fire Heart seem annoyed with him so much? He had ran away to his mother to escape it.
Fire Heart noticed his expression and sighed before meowing gently, "Hey, c'mon now. You promised you and your siblings would be the best warriors in SkyClan…so?"
Cloud Tail smiled. Of course they would! "Okay," he conceded and started paddling strongly.
Soon they ended the session and headed back to camp. The greenleaf sun easily dried his long pelt into spikes.
Dew was at the entrance and smiled at them. "Been swimming? Maybe I could give you better tips than Fire Heart."
The ginger tom glared at her. "I'm his mentor. And I don't need you showing off that you're a better swimmer to anymore of the Clan."
Dew's laugh followed them into the camp where they both skidded to a halt. Pebble Heart, Shadowstar, River Ripple, Night, Shattered Ice, and Gray Wing's moorland friends were all in the clearing talking to Skystar.
"What's going on?" Cloud Tail asked, hurrying over to Sparrow Fur.
"Pebble Heart had a dream where our ancestors told him that SkyClan needs to split up."
"What?!"
"Well, not disperse completely," Sparrow Fur meowed. "Just that some of us can choose if we want to leave to another Clan or stay."
"By the way," Pebble Heart's voice rose. "ThunderClan will not be an option." Cloud Tail was surprised at Thunder's disappointed face and he hated he felt the same way as a ginger and white cat flashed through his mind.
"Okay, StarClan's call," Skystar meowed as River Ripple traced four circles with his claw in the dirt. "But just remember, no matter where you choose to live, I'll always be proud of you all."
Cloud Tail felt his heart warm at his leader's words. After all, he had easily accepted him and his uncle into the Clan despite being born kittypets.
He shivered as he remembered the story his uncle told him of running into Thistlestar when he was younger than Cloud Tail was right now.
Poor Brightpelt, having him as a leader! Every time he saw the tom at the Gathering he had the urge to hide from the kittypet-hater.
"This is RiverClan," River Ripple explained, pointing at the marks that looked like waves. "This is WindClan," the circle had waves too, but they curled at the end like a breeze. "And ShadowClan is the gouged in one." He blinked apologetically at Shadowstar. "I didnt know how else to make it seem shadowy." He then pointed to the last. "And this is SkyClan." It showed a bird on the tippy-top of a tall tree.
Cloud Tail smiled at his Clan's representation. Of course, he'd choose to stay, right?
He twitched his tail. He didn't know! He felt like he wanted to see somewhere new even if he loved SkyClan.
Maybe I can join Pebble Heart in ShadowClan, so he won't be alone.
He just wanted experience with living in a new Clan…and then maybe he'd go back if he didn't like it.
"Okay, but will the leaders actually choose to leave?" He heard Nettle mutter to Leaf. The black and white tom looked at Gray Wing and Skystar before he shrugged.
Skystar went first and of course, chose to stay. Gray Wing quickly did the same. Acorn Fur went next and chose to stay as well.
"Well, there's that answer," Nettle murmured.
To no one's surprise much, Dappled Pelt joined RiverClan.
"But I'm still an apprentice! Who will train me?" Acorn Fur gasped.
"I will, " Cloud Spots meowed calmly as he chose to stay. Acorn Fur relaxed a little but still seemed sad her mentor would be going.
Quick Water, Fire Heart, Leaf and Nettle chose to stay in SkyClan as well and Cloud Tail noticed Skystar almost looking relieved that many would still be staying in his Clan.
It only made Cloud Tail feel more guilty. He didn't know where he really wanted to go, but still had his mind set on ShadowClan. Could he change his mind later on?
Raven Hope and Air Leap chose to stay too but to many's surprise, Jagged Peak exchanged a nod with Holly before choosing ShadowClan.
"Jagged Peak? Are you sure?" Gray Wing asked in disbelief.
"We think there will be more shelter there for our kits," the gray tabby meowed. "And it's most prone from natural disasters…"
He must be remembering the fire. His kits have been terrified since and had hardly left the nursery yet.
"Well, goodbye," Fire Heart murmured sadly, making Cloud Tail even more guilty. Jagged Peak too, looked guilty and touched noses with his friend.
"I'll always be around…and try to visit."
Gorse Fur and Wind Runner were the first to choose to move to WindClan. "Bye," Gray Wing murmured sadly.
"You act like we're leaving right away," Wind Runner murmured, but she too, looked sad.
Thorn stayed, Dew chose RiverClan smiling at Dappled Pelt and Night, Cinder Flower after a moment of hesitation chose to stay behind.
Mouse Ear and Mud Paws followed Holly, of course and put a rock in the ShadowClan circle. They stepped towards their group and Pebble Heart nodded at them.
The last few young warriors, Thunder, his sisters and Lightning Tail chose to stay much to Acorn Fur and Cinder Flower's relief.
Shattered Ice, Shadowstar and Pebble Heart were of course, staying with their Clans. Slate, Minnow and Reed chose the moor though.
Now we're heading to us apprentices, Cloud Tail realized, they would be the last to vote. Sparrow Fur immediately chose to stay with confidence.
Birch and Alder grabbed their own rocks and stayed as well, smiling.
Owl Eyes and Cloud Tail exchanged looks.
You do you, his brother's expression said.
Okay.
Owl Eyes chose to stay and stepped back with their fellow apprentices.
Cloud Tail tried not to tremble and didn't look anyone in the eye before he picked up a rock. As if moving a whole mountain, the fluffy apprentice dropped it in the ShadowClan circle and ignored the few gasps that had erupted.
He slowly padded over to the ShadowClan group and looked at Pebble Heart only, who gave him a grin.
"Well, everyone has voted," Skystar began and Cloud Tail looked up expecting a speech. But Skystar merely shook his head as if to hold back emotions.
"Good luck," he simply mewed.
Cloud Tail is confusion. But don't worry, he'll figure out his true home soon. Bet you didn't expect a part-time ShadowClan!Cloud. (Also I kind of just wanted more POVs in the other Clans.
