11: The second task unseals

Jasmine Potter stood on a dock extending out into the black lake at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After rescuing Astoria from the Mermaid's Cavern, and finding the riddle she had evidently earned by clearing the cavern Jasmin and her team, which now included Luna Lovegood, had done their best to figure out who would be Jasmin's hostage.
However, 3 days after clearing the Mermaid's Cavern, Jasmine found a strange message written in the journal Pre had sent her.
"Deer Jasmine.
I am writing to let you know that we have detected the seal we placed on your powers to let you train back up to the level you left us at is breaking down.
Lightning estimates the seal will only last another 5 days at most.
We have no explanation for how this happened, but I needed to warn you because your party members are going to feel it when the seal fails.
Keep an eye on all of them.
Pre signing off."
"And it happened just when she said it would" Jasmine thought.
Exactly 5 days after reading the message from her mentor, there was a massive serge of power from Jasmine's core. Thankfully nothing had happened, though Daphne's flushed face had been quite funny.
It had been Luna who had warned them all about the up-coming Yule Ball. Since only Parvati had wanted to ask another boy from their school out on a date, the rest of the team decided to go as a group.
It had been glorious to watch Daphne blush when Jasmine had asked her team members if they would mind accompanying her to the ball.
Luna had excepted at once. This meant she could now attend the ball, since she was a third year.
Daphne on the other hand had stalled for a good 10 minutes before agreeing. After all this meant she wouldn't be going to the ball with someone who would try to get into her pants. Not unless she allowed it herself.
The hardest part of the time leading up to the Yule Ball was when Lavender Brown had come to Jasmine and informed Jasmine that she had decided not to join the team. Jasmine had been both surprised and sadden that 1 of her closest friends wouldn't be joining her, but she could also understand where Lavender was coming from. Lavender wanted to focus on boys and fashion, and she had seen Parvati had significantly less time to spend on Lavender's favorite pass time.
This meant since Luna took her place as Jasmine's light elemental team mate that Jasmine only needed to find a shadow and a fire element for her team.

The night of the Yule Ball had been a riot to watch. When Jasmine had shown up with Luna on her left arm, and Daphne on her right Minerva McGonigal had nearly thrown a fit. That is until Jasmine had told her the positions Luna and daphne held in her elemental team.
Learning that Luna was a light element, and Daphne a water element McGonigal backed off. Although she requested to speak with Jasmine alone before she left the ball.
The 3 girls had a fun time using the spells they had learned to put on a show while they danced with each other. They even sent Malfoy away with a nose bleed when he saw the revealing outfits the girls changed into when they transformed.

The ability to transform into the race that represented their elements had come as a great shock to Daphne and Parvati when it first happened when Jasmine's powers were unsealed. Luna seemed to take it all in stride, but nothing seemed to fluster the deer girl.
Luna had transformed into an angel, Daphne had become a mermaid, Parvati had changed into an elf with swarthy skin, but the surprise had been Jasmine. Everyone had expected her to become either a goblin, or even a gnome. Instead, she became a glowing silver dragon.
When she explained that she had bonded with a silver dragon who had been dyeing just before she had returned to their world the girls understood this was because of a bond, and not what her natural form would have been.

After the Yule Ball Jasmine met with Professor McGonigal in her office.
"What can I do for you Professor?"
"Normally this question is never asked, but since you are an elemental team leader I need to know. Are you romantically courting any of your team mates?"
Jasmine blushed. "No Professor. Daphne and I have felt some kind of pull over the last few days, but we have no idea what it is, or what it means."
Minerva nodded. "If you and Miss Greengrass would please come and see me in the morning. We need to determine if there is anything between the 2 of you."
"What is this about Professor?"
"Minerva smiled At Jasmine. "I will tell you both tomorrow."
"Very well Professor."

The next day Daphne and Jasmine had met with Minerva, and learned that since Daphne was a water type, and Jasmine an earth type that the 2 of them were highly compatible. Thankfully there was a spell to determine if 2 people were sinking up. As only elementals could come together like this McGonigal knew what to watch for.
The bottom line was that Daphne could never be placed in danger deliberately. If she was there was a very high chance that Jasmine would lose all sense of herself in order to get to Daphne, and there was no telling how many people would die in the process.
The same could also be said for Daphne if Jasmine were placed in danger.
Minerva was actually not sure which was worse. Daphne came from a pure-blood family that stretched back over 5 hundred years, and so the family knew a thing or 2 about cursing those that got in their way.
On the other hand, Jasmine was the leader of an elemental team with enough power that she had nearly blown out the castle windows when she had gotten upset 1 day.
Either 1 could be disastrous for Hogwarts if the other were harmed.

That morning Jasmine had learned that Daphne was missing at breakfast. It had taken her promising to level the castle and all of Hogsmeade for her to learn that Daphne was under the black lake waiting for Jasmine to rescue her.
Jasmine had looked Professor McGonigal in the eyes long enough to know that she had not aided the committee with the abduction of someone Jasmine was starting to care for.
"Let me make 1 thing clear to you judges" Jasmine said just before everyone left for the lake. "If so, much as a single hair is out of place on Daphne, I will level this castle to the ground."
The fact she said all this in a calm tone scared Bagman silly.
As Jasmine turned to head down to the lake someone just had to open their mouth.
"And just what do you think you can do against a castle that has stood for over a thousand years Potter?"
Around her people cringed as Malfoy had decided to try and cut her down to size. Unfortunately, this time he had bitten off mor than he could chew.
Turning to face Malfoy Jasmine gave the kid a look that had him freezing in place. : If Daphne is harmed in any way Malfoy, you along with the rest of the students will see 1 thing I have been keeping in reserve ever since I return from my training trip."
As Jasmine left McGonigal prayed Daphne had not been harmed while under the lake, or while being transported to it.

As Jasmine stood on the dock leading out into the lake her eyes turned a bright golden yellow. She could feel the power so long locked away surging to the front. All it needed was a target.
Looking over she saw Diggory and Krum looking relaxed. Delacour on the other hand looked terrified. Stepping out of the line she had been placed in, Jasmine walked over to the French champion.
"Whom did they take from you Miss Delacour?"
Fleur's head whipped toward Jasmine in surprise, and why not? No one knew Jasmine Potter could speak French. In fact, the other champions were looking at Jasmine in puzzlement.
After a pause Fleur said "They took my younger sister. She hasn't even start at Beauxbatons yet."
Jasmine's eyes seemed to darken. "I promise you Miss Delacour, if you are unable to rescue your hostage, I will get her to the surface unharmed."
Fleur staired at Jasmine. "Why would you help me, after what my own school did to you after the champion selection?"
Jasmine smiled a tiny smile. "Because what they are doing is far more than just taunting someone. This is not the first time this has happened, and what does anyone from your school really know about me?"
Fleur knotted at that. "Thank you, Miss Potter. If I am unable to reach Gabrielle, I will rely on you to rescue her."
Jasmine gave Fleur a deep bow, before returning to her place in line. She ignored Diggory's questioning look. It wasn't like he had done anything to goner her respect. Even if he had seen how she had handled the pirate in her first solo dungeon.
Daphne had told her about the broadcast that showed her making her way through the dungeon. Though very few understood the had missed her crossing the desert room.
Hearing the whistle to start the competition, Jasmine looked out into the lake, focused on a spot 100 feet out and 5 feet up. Then without warning she vanished with a clap of thunder so loud it knocked everyone on their backsides.
Cho's eyes widened. "That was Teleport" she gasped.
Marietta blinked. "I thought that was an ability that only Light elementals have access to."
"Only at lower levels."
Cho and Marietta turned to see who had spoken. It was Lovegood, a third year in their house.
"How do you know anything about the elementals" Cho asked.
Luna shrugged. "I joined Jasmine's elemental team, and it seems 1 of my traits gives me random bits of information when it is needed."
"Wait Potter excepted you into her team " Marietta asked. "Why would she do that?"
Luna shrugged again. This time with a small smile. "Because I went to her and asked."
Cho and Marietta slapped themselves for not thinking of that. Cho had seen Potter around the school after the broadcast, and yet hadn't thought to ask to join.
"Is she only taking 1 person from each house? Aside from Gryffindor obviously."
Luna tilted her head. "I don't know."
"Unless she claims someone from 1 of the foreign schools, she is going to need to get someone from the other houses."
Cho, Marietta, and Luna looked to see Parvati Patel watching them.
"She was going to have Lavender join if she wanted to, but Lav decided she didn't want to."
Cho took a shaky breath. "Do you know what her long-term goal is Patel?"
Parvati shook her head. "No one in the party knows the goal for anyone else. Though she did tell me that she would be losing the power near the end of this year."
Marietta frowned. "What could that mean?"
Parvati shrugged. "You're guess is as good as mine."

Jasmine had swum while holding her breath to the center of the lake. Who knew her Dex stat would make this so easy.
Reaching the center of the lake she drove straight down. As she neared the bottom, she heard the same song she had read in the riddle being sung slightly off to her left.
Turning Jasmine arrowed straight for the voices. As she entered the Mermaid village, she was surprised to see Daphne sitting on a thrown made of coral.
"This just got interesting."
As Jasmine approached Daphne rose from the throne, and swimming over to Jasmine proceeded to give her a toe-curling kiss.
"We need to talk when we get to the surface" Daphne said in the same musical voice the mermaids were still singing in.
Jasmine nodded.
The 2 of them waited until first Diggory and then Krum had come and collected their hostages.
"Looks like we will need to return Delacour's little sister" Daphne said as she picked up a sharp rock, and used it to cut the rope holding the little girl.
Handing the girl to Jasmine, Daphne swam toward the surface. After making sure she had a firm hold on the child, Jasmine followed her girlfriend out of the village.

Only 5 minutes remained on the clock when the water in the black lake began to spin rapidly. Everyone watched spellbound as Jasmine Potter carrying a little girl, and Daphne Greengrass shot out of the water and landed on the dock.
Fleur upon seeing the little girl ran over and pulled the 2 of them into a nearly bone crushing hug. "You saved her. Thank you, thank you."
As Jasmine worked to calm Fleur down, the young girl's eyes snapped open and focused on Jasmine rather than her sister.
"You are the elemental right?"

An and that's the end of this chapter. So, we know Jasmine needs a fire element, and there are 2 right in front of her. So, which do you think will join Jasmine. Will it be Fleur in thanks for saving her sister as Jasmine promised, will it be Gabrielle in thanks for saving her, or will it be someone else.
I'm thinking this will have no more than 14- or 15-chapters total. So, we're nearing the end.
