A/N: I am actually republishing this story. There have been edits made. Text that has been italicized is a flashback, and text that has been bolded is from the show. I am merely borrowing characters besides though that are not recognized.
"That had to be the best gathering we've had in a while," Gail says as they reach Kathleen's apartment. "I mean, Dad, Uncle Donny, and Steve kept putting their feet in their mouths."
"They didn't like your suggestions very much," Kathleen says. She opens the door and the girls walk through the living room. "Your mom was looking so proud of you for putting them in their place this evening."
"Sometimes it needs to be done," she says as they walk over to Kathleen's closet. "Tell me you will wear the fitted leopard and fruit-printed dress?"
"Of course," Kathleen says as they enter the closet and she pulls out the dress. It was a strapless dress that hugged her figure and was ruffled along her bustline. "I need to figure out accessories, thinking as in simple?"
"Simple," she says as she pulls out her dress. It had yellow fern leaves and a dark toucan, with white and pink mixed in. It was spaghetti-strapped that stopped about her mid-thigh. "I am thinking the same."
"Most decorative prints mean simpler accessories," Kathleen says. She chooses a pair of black gladiator heels and a simple black clutch. For jewellery, she chooses silver flower earrings and a butterfly drop necklace. "I hope this bar is as good as everyone is saying it is."
"It should be," Gail says as she grabs a similar style of shoe and bag out of her bag. She is wearing a pair of diamond studs and a simple silver cross. "You never know with the hype of these places. Do you think Steve is going to ruin our evening?"
"I'm more worried about Sammy. He crashes these things a lot more than Steve does. He is the instigator, but Sam is the force. Though I don't see why they are going to interrupt our fun. We are not doing anything illegal."
"It's Sam and Steve, plus that whole thing about you and Luke. That is looking for some major payback."
"Great," Kathleen says as she picks up her phone and notices a message. "Cab's here."
"Let's go," Gail says as she is already halfway to the door.
Kathleen smiles as she follows her cousin and locks up her apartment.
"Uh, why was this a good idea again?" Kathleen says louder than normal as she and Gail exit the club.
"Because we haven't done this in forever," Gail slurs as she looks around. "Where's the car?"
"Cabbing it," Kathleen says as she pulls out her phone. "We have to call our ride."
"No fun," Gail says as she leans against the side of the building.
"Shush," Kathleen mutters as she dials her phone. "Hi, can I get a cab to the Kane Tiki on Dundas?"
"Ha, you said ass," Gail laughs as she watches her.
"Shush," Kathleen says as she attempts to pay attention to her phone.
"Uh, wrong number, Trouble," Sam says.
"Damn, I meant to call Royal," she mutters as she looks at her phone. "Sorry, Sammy."
"I'm on my way," he says, as she can hear him putting a vehicle into gear. "You with your other troubling half?"
"Gail is not that bad," she says as she joins her cousin against the side of the club. "We needed to have some fun."
"How much fun did you girls have, exactly?" Sam asks.
"Uh," she says as she looks at her cousin. "Sammy wants to know how much fun we had exactly."
"Lots and lots of fun," Gail says, much louder than her cousin.
"How much did you two drink?" Sam tries again.
"Uh," she says as she attempts to think about it. "We started with a coconita, then we had 2 a day at the beach followed up by a monkey island. So 2 shots and 2 cocktails."
"And the glass of wine at your aunt's," he reminds her.
"Yeah, that too, but we cabbed it here," she adds as she watches her cousin. "Don't be a party popper, Sammy. This is the first time in a long time that Gail and I have done this."
"I know, that is why I am coming to get you and not calling Steve," he says.
"Steve knows we were out tonight," she says as she looks around the street. "He didn't have a problem with us coming."
"I don't think he expected you two to drink this much."
"We've been out since about 9. Dinner was over at 7, and we only had 4 drinks in 3 hours. The fact I can do that should tell you, we could have done worse."
"Okay, I'll give you two that one, this time," he says as he pulls the cruiser up to the bar. "Ready to go home, you two."
"You didn't mention you were on duty," Kathleen says as she looks at him and then back at Gail. "Come on Baby Peck."
"It wouldn't have mattered," he says as he opens the door for the two of them. "Be happy. I am riding solo tonight."
"Where is Shaw?" Gail asks as she gets into the backseat. "He is usually your second."
"Jerry needed him for some case," Sam says as he closes the door and gets back into the driver's seat. "Where are we going, ladies?"
"Drop Gail off at home and then me," Kathleen says as Sam pulls away from the club.
"Not going to Luke's," Gail asks as she looks over at her. "I wasn't supposed to say anything, was I?"
"Trust me, Peck," Sam says as he drives. "I am not surprised they are back together. The boy has got a bit of pep back to his step. Are you sure you don't want me to leave you at Gail's?"
"Sammy, I'm fine at my place," she says as she shakes her head. "I thought the assailant stopped striking?"
"Nope, seems to have hit a cooling-off period," Sam says as he reaches Gail's street. "It would be safer for you to stay with Gail tonight."
"Sam, I'm fine," she says as he pulls up to Gail's building. "Give me five minutes to get her inside." She then helps Gail out of the car and into her building.
Sam hurriedly dials a number on his phone. "Callaghan, it's Swarek. Are you stopping by Kay's place tonight?"
"Wasn't planning on it? She's out with Gail tonight," Luke asks in a little confused tone. "Why are you asking?"
"Trouble called after exiting the bar," Sam starts as he watches the building. "Only dropping off Peck now. Peck seems more intoxicated than Trouble, but 4 drinks in 3 hours. It makes me wonder if it's safe leaving her at home."
"That would put their BAC level roughly around 0.10 for Gail and 0.08 for Kay. Peck should be fine by morning. Plus, she always locks up her apartment, not on the ground level."
"She turned down my recommendation for her to stay with Gail."
"Crap, okay. Drop her off at her place but stick around for about a half-hour longer. We have doubled patrol in the areas for the weekend but can't be too careful. My shift ends around 3, so I'll head over then."
"Do we even have a description of this guy?"
"The last victim gave a description. It was pretty general. We are looking for a male in his late twenties, under six feet, slim build, and who weighs roughly 160 pounds. They said he is clean-shaved, wears simple clothing and when talks with a thick Irish accent."
"That's not a lot to go on. That could be any guy. Do we have hair or skin colour?"
"It was too dark to make a concrete description. We don't even know if the guy has any tattoos. Stick around the area and see if anyone stands out to you. We know he is getting around on foot."
"Okay, an average-looking guy walking around and possibly paying attention to open windows."
"Exactly. Remind her to lock her door and to call one of us, even if she hears someone outside of her apartment."
"Got it," Sam says as he spots her walking out of the apartment. "She's coming out. I'll talk to you back at the station."
