EEEK chapter three, hope you all enjoy … we may be meeting one of our boys veryyyyy soon…

Well, it's nice to see that breakfasts haven't changed too much here in this household. I smirk at the grumpy blonde over the lip of my coffee mug. Care was never much of a morning person. At her glare I hide my smile by taking a big gulp of the coffee, Aunt Liz just rolled her eyes at us while placing a plate full of pancakes in front of us both.

"Thank you Liz, you didn't have to make breakfast though I'd happily do it!" She ruffles my hair as she sits down, shaking her head.

"Don't be silly. It's lovely just having both my girls finally back under the same roof", I bite my tongue accidently while shoving a mouthful of pancakes in my mouth. That twisting knot of guilt jabbed me again in the stomach. I knew my leaving hurt Auntie Liz and Caroline more than they let on, but how much I wonder did it really affect them?

Swallowing the mouthful of pancakes, I give her a guilty smile. She squeezes my hand and gives me one of those mothering looks that I missed. Not that I'd tell her that I missed her mothering habits, she would never leave me alone if I mentioned that. I look across at the other blonde who was shoving the pancakes into her mouth at a fast pace.

"Woah what's the rush Carebear? I thought you didn't you go back to school until tomorrow?" Low-key, kinda impressed at how much food she is managing to inhale without choking!

"So much to do! Do you know, no one has planned anything to do this senior prank night. They've all left it to chance. Well not under my watch! No Sir! I've got to go get supplies and then I need to make sure everyone knows what they're doing and what rooms they need to go to and th-"

"Woah, woah! Okay I get it, you're a busy bee!" chuckling at her put-out face at being interrupted I wink. "How about when I finish work, I come help you guys, that way you finish quicker and can spend time with your favourite blonde cousin?"

"You're my only blonde cousin" she sasses back before sucking on her fork thoughtfully. Narrowing my eyes at the blonde she grins: "That would be great though to get some help, thank you Quinny!"

I groan at the nickname as she cackles at me. Back not even twenty-four hours and already the horrible nickname has reared its head. Liz just was smiling at us both while drinking her coffee and picking at the pancakes. Catching sight of the clock behind her I quickly finish off the last of my pancakes and coffee. I'd be damned if I was going to be late on my first day at this job.

Wiping my mouth off, I place my mug and dish in the dishwasher before slinking over to the unexpected blonde. Slopping a massive wet kiss on her cheek as a goodbye I move out of the way of her waving hands and give Auntie Liz a nicer kiss on the cheek. "See you ladies later! Care I'll message you when I'm on my way!" I grab my bag off the coat hook and my coat. Quickly checking my outfit over in the mirror, a dark lilac pant suit (of course I couldn't have a boring suit for my first day) and determine I have no maple syrup down my front I take my keys for the jeep.

Driving to work was quicker than I thought it'd be. But then again getting anywhere in Mystic Falls is quick, everything is so close. I wish the day at work had just been as quick.

I should have known and prepared myself. This was not what I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life, stuck behind a desk editing other peoples work who were off out and about. This wasn't the job I signed up for either. Spellchecking another article, I grind my teeth as Mr Smith's words rattle around in my brain: "oh for you to go out to research and get information to write articles you need more experience in the field". Didn't matter I had years in the field – aka the actual world – because I haven't lived in Mystic falls for a few years I supposedly had no idea on the happenings in this town.

Yeah, sure like there wasn't vampires and werewolves and God-knows what else running around in the town disguised as normal people. Nahhh.

Jabbing at the enter key with enough spite it made a good click, I rolled my shoulders and breathed through my nose. No point getting mad. I looked up at the picture of Liz and Caroline I had put on my desk, I sighed. For those two I'd stay in the crappy job so I can spend some time with them both. Hopefully another job will turn up where I am allowed to escape this crap office.

My other photos caught my eye; a rainforest where I'm holding a sloth, on a beach with baby turtles who were making their first journey to the ocean and one where I'm in New Zealand on a mountain. More experience in the field my left foot! Looking back at the screen in front of me I double check another article on the water quality in Mystic falls (yawn) and hold in another sigh.

There will be other jobs, I'm sure. I hope. Pray?

After endless hours of clicking, checking, being non-stopped shocked at the spelling and grammar of some of these journalists and becoming brain numb at the sure boredom of these articles I spy the clock. TIME TO GO! Slipping on my jacket I see others are starting to pack up as well, I shove my bag on my shoulder and make my way to the doors and say my goodbyes to the few people who had said hello when Mr Smith introduced us. Opening the front doors, I quickly walk to my jeep. Freedom!

I slam the jeep door behind me and let the groan out that wanted to escape me as soon as I was shown my desk. Job hunting will be done tonight! For sure. I pull my phone out my pocket and see a few texts from Caroline demanding me to bring extra toilet rolls and cups, as well as some from Elena and Bonnie begging me to control my cousin. A genuine smile crossed my face reading them, at least I can go see my girls and help them get up to some mischief.

As I drive towards the school, I make sure to stop at the supermarket and get the toilet roll and cups, else face the wrath of CareBear. A shudder goes through me. No thank you. Pulling up at the school I see some quite a few of the students leaving and getting in their cars, huh strange. I give Caroline a quick call to see where she was and if prank night was still on. Maybe one of the teachers appeared and called it off? Seeing Caroline's car and Bonnies I walk towards the school as her voicemail starts. Perhaps Care was arguing with the teachers. 'It is a rite of passage' talk. I do not envy those teachers at all.

Opening the front doors, I crinkle my nose up at the smell. Yep, I definitely do not miss being a teenager and having to come here. My heels make taps on the floor as I walk through the halls, getting more frustrated as neither Bonnie nor Elena are answering their phones either. Where are those girls?

"Caroline?" I shout into the empty halls. Well. This isn't spooky at all is it. All I need now is some mass murderer to come running down the halls with a chainsaw and that would top it off perfectly. Turning down another hallway – did this school always used to be this big? – I trip over some bags left. Rude.

A small groan catches my attention, quickly walking down the hall I peep around the corner and see Caroline on the floor … looking mighty dead. Checking our surroundings I run to her, kneeling beside her I place her head in my lap. No point looking for a pulse instead I check around her chest to make sure there was no stake marks. No blood. No holes in the top. And a very weirdly turned neck I am going to hazard a guess and say … broken neck? Cringing I try to twist her head back into the correct position. Ew. It's a good job I love her.

"Care I need you to wake up sweets, come on!" I lean down and whisper into her ear, keeping my eyes up to make sure no one sneaks up on us. You don't just get a broken neck by falling. Well humans do but vampires, not so much. Sliding the vervain pepper spray down my sleeve I keep it in my right hand while shaking Care with my other.

"Caroline Forbes, I swear to whatever is holy if you don't wake your ass up I'm gonna smack you so hard it'll make our ancestors wince, so WAKE UP!" I shout into her ear. My eyes flit down to her as she groans and twists in my lap. A relieved sigh escapes my lips. Thank goodness for that. Her blue eyes look up at me as I softly stroke her hair.

"Hey sleepy head, want to tell me why you're having a nap on the floor?" I tease. She winces and rubs her neck, before she can retort the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Looking up I see another blonde girl sitting across from us smirking, she'd be extremely pretty if those eyes didn't glare 'death'.

"We didn't have mobile phones in my day. Would have made life a whole lot easier, I suppose." She then takes a selfie. What?

"Where's Tyler?" Looking back down at my cousin I see her start glaring, uh oh. Another body to the side of us makes me flinch. Oh, please tell me they didn't!

"He's dead … ish" I tap Caroline on the shoulder and motion to the boy lying beside us. I choose to ignore the other blonde for the moment, attention seems to be what she wants. Well welcome to the girl who invented that game and sod off.

"What did you do?" I scrambled across the floor with Care, never turning my back to the other girl, she was obviously a vampire. An old one I am guessing. I place my hand on Tyler's neck to try and find a pulse, a very subtle small one was thumping beneath my fingers, but his neck was all twisted around wrong like Care's were. I know Werewolves can survive many things, but a broken neck?

"Think of it as, he's having a nap. When he wakes up, he will be a hybrid". She'd be amusing, if she wasn't being such a dick to my cousin. Care leans over Tyler and listens to his chest, I hold her one hand as I clutch the vervain in my other. This bitch isn't getting another chance to hurt her, or Tyler, if I have anything to say about it. Seeing her getting angry and frustrated at a phone I move in front of the pair, not a second too soon.

One second she was against the lockers and next she was standing over us snarling: "Why is that doppelgänger bitch wearing my necklace?!" Seeing a photo of Elena and a young man I flinch. Oh Elena, what trouble have you got yourself into now. Glaring up at the blonde I sneer back at her.

"Why don't you go find out?" Matching my glare, she raises an eyebrow when I don't back down. I hold back my flinch as she leans down to be at my eye level, twisting the can in my hand I ready myself.

"You're a brave little human. Be careful, that bravery will get you killed," she smirks once more before she is gone. Shakily breathing I square my shoulders up and turn back to my cousin and the prone boy on the floor. Her teary eyes were breaking my heart.

"Care, we are going to sort this, sweets. I promise you! We will sort this!" I grab her shoulder and squeeze.

How the bloody hell are we going to fix this mess?
