Chapter 74: Rematch at the Battle Pyramid pt2
'For Pokespeech
"For Human speech
The Flamethrower and Thunderbolt clashing caused an explosion as both Zapdos and Charizard glared at each other neither of them was giving an inch when it came to power.
Tobias and Ash were glaring at each other as well. Charizard was one of Ash's strongest Pokemon on his team, and being up against another member of the Kanto Legendaries was a big thing for them.
"Use Heat Wave Zapdos," Tobias commanded his Pokemon. Ash was surprised that a flying type other than Charizard could learn that move as the flames headed toward Charizard.
"Charizard use Flare Blitz and then Dragon Claw," Ash commanded his Pokemon as Charizard charged through the Heat Wave, barely damaging Zapdos's Attack.
"Air Slash now, Zapdos," Tobias commanded his Pokemon as the two Pokemon clashed their moves. Zapdos's Air Slash managed to hit Charizard, causing an explosion as Charizard managed to slam right into Zapdos with his Attack. "Thunderbolt now," Tobias commanded his Pokemon.
"Overheat now, Charizard," Ash commanded Charizard as the two Pokemon launched their Attack. Both hits each other. Both were sent to the wall of the battle Pyramid as both were knocked out.
"Zapdos and Charizard both are unable to battle," the ref for the battle pyramid announced as Ash and Tobias returned their Pokemon to their Pokeballs.
Ash turned to Tobias. "So I guess that could've happened during our match," Ash said to Tobias, who smirked and pulled out his fifth Pokeball.
"I must admit, Ash, you've battled well so far. You know one of my remaining Pokemon left this next one. I heard you are very familiar with it during your Journey," Tobias said to Ash, who glared at him. Tobias sent out his next Pokemon, a Suicune, which Ash was surprised that Tobias had owned it.
Ash pulled out his next Pokeball. "Alight, Sceptile, come on out," Ash sent out his next Pokemon, who was still feeling the ice beam from Tyranitar but was still ready to battle. Suicune glared at Sceptile and knew that this was the Mon who had beaten Darkrai. But Suicune is no Darkrai and knows that he could beat him.
"Alright, Sceptile, use Leaf Blade now," Ash commanded his Pokemon. Sceptile's arms glowed and made bladed and charged at Suicune, who got ready to move as it jumped out of the way.
"Calm Mind and then use Ice Beam," Tobias commanded his Suicune, who powered up and launched the Ice Beam attack right Sceptile. Who jumped out of the way barely. Ash noticed that the opening of the Battle Pyramid was still open and knew he could use that to his advantage.
"Solar Beam now, Sceptile," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who charged up the bulbs on his back and fired right at Suicune Tobias smirked, which Ash noticed as well as Sceptile.
"Mirror Coat now," Tobias commanded his Pokemon, who sent the Solar Beam at Sceptile, who was hit and sent to the ground. Sceptile was showing signs of exhaustion from this battle. "End this with Brine, Suicune," Tobias commanded his Pokemon. Ash was surprised and knew what that move did.
"Get out of there and then use Leaf Blade, Sceptile," Ash commanded Sceptile, who barely dodged the Brine attack and managed to slam its arms right into Suicune, only for it to launch another Brine at Sceptile, knocking him out. "Sceptile, no!" Ash said.
"Sceptile is unable to battle Suicune wins. The match is tied with both sides having two Pokemon left," the ref said as Ash returned Sceptile to his ball, giving him praise for the battle.
"Your Sceptile is stronger than I originally thought. Ash willing to go toe-to-toe with first Darkrai and winning to keeping up Suicune in this battle shows that your win against Darkrai was warranted," Tobias said to Ash, who nodded. "Sadly, I've seen all your Pokemon in action at the league and know how to counter it," Tobias said as Ash smirked, which confused Tobias. "What's so funny, Ash?" Tobias said to Ash, who pulled out a Pokeball.
"You haven't. This one is making her debut appearance in a battle with me in a long time," Ash said, which made Tobias curious. "Now let's see all that training shows off. I choose you," Ash tossed his Pokeball as it opened to reveal Primape, who was raring to go. "Time we make a comeback. Let's do this, girl," Ash said to Primape, who nodded.
Tobias was surprised and now realized that Ash had planned for this battle if he was the one that won the battle frontier. "I see. You are full of surprises, Ash, to think that you would come with a new mon outside of your Charizard that I haven't seen in battle," Tobias said to Ash, who smiled as Primpape was in a battle stance as Suicune was ready to face her. "Use Extrasensory now, Suicune," Tobias commanded his Pokemon, who used the psychic type move heading towards Primape.
"Detect, and then use Thunder Punch," Ash commanded her, who dodged the psychic Attack and charged at Suicune. As Primpape managed to slam her fist right at Suicune, sending it back. "Now use Cross chop," Ash commanded her.
"Use Blizzard, Suicune," Tobias commanded Suicune, who was trying to freeze not only the battlefield but Primape as well Primape was hit but managed to wade it out as the Cross Chop managed to land a blow before the battlefield could freeze over.
"Hate to break this to you, Tobias. But freezing the battlefield to slow us down isn't going to work against my team," Ash said to Tobias as Brandon smirked upon hearing this. "We've encountered many battles, whether it being the battlefield originally or is made to become ice, your going to have to do better than that," Ash said to Tobias as he smirked.
"I see you're using what you've learned from your past battles and mistakes to overcome your battle against my team," Tobias said to Ash, taking what he said in. "But like you, I too have taken the liberty to learn from my mistakes and battles, as you will see later," Tobias said to Ash.
"So I probably won't see that combo that Darkrai used at the league, huh? Given that Sceptile freed himself and cost Darkrai the match, I can see why he would change his team's strategy," Ash thought and smiled. "But this time, we won't lose, use Giga Impact," Ash commanded Primape.
"Extrasensory now, Suicune, and then use Brine," Tobias commanded his Pokemon. As the two Pokemon moves clashed, it seemed like both Pokemon were on equal footing. Still, Primape managed to overpower Suicune and take the win.
"Suicune is unable to battle," The ref announced as Ash was about to celebrate with Primape, only for Primape to fall. "Primape is unable to battle. The match is tied with both sides having one Pokemon each," the ref said. Ash was surprised by this as he was hoping that Primape would've lasted longer than that.
Both Tobias and Ash returned their Pokemon to their Pokeballs. Ash knew who was coming, the Mon who made Tobias infamous at the Sinnoh league and his most challenging obstacle now. Ash turned to Pikachu. "Pikachu, let's do this," Ash said to Pikachu, who nodded and ran out to the battlefield, ready to battle.
"So you are ending this with Pikachu, to think that this battle is much better than our original battle, but it will end with my victory," Tobias said to Ash as Tobias pulled out his last Pokeball. "Darkrai, come on out," Tobias sent out his last Pokemon as Ash wasn't scared to face off against this Pokemon. "Ash, you've already earned my respect. Both at the league and in this battle, now the real challenge begins. Prove yourself why you earned your title or falter to my Darkrai," Tobias said to Ash, who glared at him.
"Oh, I'll show you why I earned that title, alright, and with the Pokemon that won me my last Frontier symbol, no less, my partner Pikachu," Ash said as Pikachu was raring to go.
"Humph, I see, so it was Pikachu who took on and won you that last symbol, fitting for the Pokemon who tied with my Latios would be so strong," Tobias said. "But even champions have to fall. And a new one will rise. Darkrai uses Dark Void," Tobias commanded his Pokemon, who fired the Attack at Pikachu.
"Jump with a quick attack and then use Thunderbolt," Ash commanded Pikachu, who got out of the Dark Void's range and shot a Thunderbolt at Darkrai.
"Use Dark Pulse and then use Will-o-Wisp," Tobias commanded his Pokemon as the Dark pulse clashed with Thunderbolt. Darkrai appeared behind Pikachu and fired the Will-o-Wisp Attack at Pikachu.
"Iron Tail now, before you can get burned by that Will-o-Wisp," Ash commanded Pikachu, who slammed his tail right into Darkrai, sending him to the ground as Pikachu landed, only for him to be burned by the Attack. "No, Pikachu!" Ash said to Pikachu, who shook himself, still wanting to fight.
"Pikachu's got a lot of guts. I'll give him that, but how long can he last before the fires finish him off in this battle," Tobias said to Ash and Pikachu.
"As long as I am willing to fight, Pikachu won't back down either. Quick Attack now, Pikachu," Ash commanded Pikachu, who charged at Darkrai while trying to ignore the burns on its fur.
"Use, Psychic and Ice Beam," Tobias commanded Darkrai, who tried to catch Pikachu's Quick Attack mid-Attack only to be hit by it.
"Thunderbolt now, Pikachu," Ash commanded Pikachu, who fired the Attack close range at Darkrai, who got hit and then launched its Ice Beam at Pikachu as the two Pokemon were sent back to their trainers. Ash and Tobias knew this would be the last part of the battle as Pikachu felt the burns from the Will-o-Wisp.
"You've battled bravely, Ash, and I commend you on this battle, but this is the end. Use Giga Impact and Dark Pulse," Tobias commanded Darkrai, knowing what Ash would use to end this battle.
"Volt tackle and Iron Tail, let's go, Pikachu," Ash commanded Pikachu as he charged at the darker version of Giga impact as the two moves slammed right into each other head-on.
Pikachu and Darkrai weren't moving an inch during this clash, as neither wanted to lose the power. They were too strong for both of them as it caused an explosion that sent shockwaves across the entire battle pyramid. The smoke cleared as Pikachu and Darkrai were standing but not moving. Everyone was surprised by this. Both were knocked out as both Tobias and Ash were surprised by this.
"Pikachu and Darkrai are both unable to battle. The match ends in a draw," the ref said as Ash ran to Pikachu as Tobias walked over to Darkrai. Ash picked up Pikachu, who slowly opened his eyes.
'Pi-Pika?' Pikachu asked. Who won that fight? Ash sighed. "Sadly, buddy, like the match with Latios, the match ends in a draw," Ash said to Pikachu, who was upset but was happy he gave it his all. "You did good, buddy. Get some rest," Ash said to Pikachu, who nodded and passed out in his arms. Tobias and Darkrai walked over to Ash. "So, what now?" Ash asked Tobias.
"Well, it seems like our battle of who will keep this title will be put on hold. It seems I can say this, Ash," Tobias said to Ash, who was curious. "Your display here shows me that you earned that title, not to mention your win against two of my legendaries. We will battle again someday," Tobias said to Ash.
"I learned a few things in this battle Tobias," Ash said to Tobias, who was curious. "There's still more I need to learn if I have a chance to beat you. It took me three tries to beat Brandon and two tries against Anabel to show me that I still have a long road ahead of me if I want to reach my goal as a Pokemon master," Ash said to Tobias, who smiled.
"You've already got there. I will say, Ash, not going to lie. At some point, I thought you almost had me in that struggle in the last move. As you said, I, too, have a long way to go, so take what you said to heart," Tobias said to Ash as Tobias offered a handshake to Ash, who happily accepted it.
Flash forward to the current time.
"And that's what happened. The match ended in a tie, just like how Pikachu tied with Latios," Ash said to everyone, who was surprised by this. Ash couldn't defeat Tobias even with a different team, only tied with him.
"So what's that leave with your Battle Frontier champion status, Ash?" Brock said to Ash, who looked down as everyone was curious.
"That is where the PWT lies. I found out from Scott that not only does he run the Battle Frontier, but he is one of the founders of the PWT as well. You see, I already knew that Tobias would take part in this as after I talked to my mom and Professor, I got word about all this," Ash said.
"So the rematch against him in the PWT will decide who will keep that title, huh? That sucks because you worked hard to win that title three years ago," Misty said to Ash, who sighed.
"Sadly, it was hard for Scott to try to make two victors for it, even offering me a chance to battle the one in Sinnoh, but at the time, I wasn't planning on returning to reclaim something that I lost. And yes, Tobias was asked as well. This rematch will determine his decision on that one," Ash said as everyone looked down, knowing that Ash meant what he said.
"So that's why you took a different shift in your tone and training before coming to Unova?" Misty said to Ash, who looked at her. "I mean, you aren't as reckless as you were back then, not to mention your current team is probably at their level just by training with them," Misty said to Ash, who shook his head. Misty was getting annoyed, but Ash stopped her.
"I'm not disagreeing with you about the new Pokemon's level, and strength, Misty," Ash said to Misty, who calmed down as Ash looked at the clock and nodded. "I think I have time to answer Zorua's question," Ash said to the group.
'You mean the one about Damien?' Zorua asked Ash, who nodded and turned to Misty.
"The battle against Damien showed me that I can't keep sticking to my normal means of battles or training, but my way as well," Ash said to Misty.
"I heard about this battle from Lance, only bits of it. It was your first official battle for the league," Cynthia said to Ash, who nodded.
"It was placed at the Battle Dome. From what Lance told me, they didn't want it to look like they were targeting him, so they made a Tournament about it," Ash said to Cynthia.
"I see. That way, Damien wouldn't run away like he is used to, knowing that it would cost him a blow to his pride," Brock said to Ash, who nodded. "But wait a minute, Ash? You know that Damien isn't the type to fight fair, and from what I've heard during those months, he has gotten more ruthless," Brock said to Ash.
"Lance offered to ensure that whatever happened to the trainer Pokemon who battled him will get the treatment they need," Ash said to Brock and sighed. "As I mentioned back in Iccirus City, I had no idea until the finals that it was all part of the league's plan to get rid of trainers like Damien, and it was my father, of all people, who recommended me to Lance," Ash said out loud.
"So that's one of the reasons why you have issues," Misty was interrupted by Ash.
"No, not really? Damien made it personal for my team. I only found out that my father asked Lance to have me do this, which was why I accepted this role. Yes, I don't hate him for that. I just wished he would've told me sooner, but I'm the only one that Damien doesn't know is tied to the league," Ash said to Misty. "I think it's time to talk about this battle about two months before I left for Unova," Ash said to the group.
To Be continued.
Done and done. Finally, this chapter took longer than expected. Before I get the whole oh, you nerfed Tobias or gave Ash that win in most battles. Trust me. It was hard to make this battle worth writing for you all. Now imagine how it will be when the PWT comes around. That said, someone suggested back on Deviantart for Primape to return for this battle. A Pokemon that Tobias hasn't seen or battled that isn't Charizard was a good idea, and trust me, Primape isn't the only one that will make an appearance in this story. Especially in the next chapter. Depending on the length of the next chapter. It will either be a one or a two-parter, depending on how long it goes. I will split it if it's longer than 2-3000 words. If not, it will be a one-parter as it's a 6v6 battle, and I want to make them two-parters. See you next time.
