A Hero's Promise
Chapter 2: Childhood Days
Two Years Later: Age 6
The years that had passed since I gained my Quirk were rather nice. Heading Hanaya-sensei's orders, I decided to take up meditation to help me learn how to better control my abilities. It turned out to be a great suggestion. In addition to the healing powers and the strengthening ability, I discovered that each ability came with a different aura color. Enhancing my physical abilities was red, healing was green, concussive energy blasts were a violet-blue, aura shields were yellow, and of course, there were aura spheres which were a deep cobalt blue.
I was able to do all of these abilities, but I was nowhere near as strong as I could be. I could barely hold my aura creations for no longer than 2 minutes and my physical enhancement powers for about 5. My parents told me that it was because of my youth and the more training I did with it the stronger they would grow. I knew they were right, but it was just frustrating. I had this amazing ability, and I couldn't do everything I wanted to do with it but there was nothing I could do about it now. I just had to keep working.
Thanks to the meditation and the additional self-defense lessons I was learning from Taku-nii, I was getting stronger day by day. As a 6-year-old, I was stronger than most, but my brothers taught me several different ways to help me regulate my strength, so I didn't hurt anyone which I was very happy for. These lessons led me to discover another type of power I had, emotional control. I didn't necessarily control or manipulate emotions, but I could sort of calm people down. When I focused on my Aura, I could calm a person down or enhance an emotion they were feeling.
It helped immensely when I had to calm Taku-nii and his sparring partners down when things got too intense in the gym.
All of these powers were fun, and they helped me get used to the crazy world around me. And other kids my age found it awesome.
Speaking of, I found myself settling into a very comfortable friendship with Kasumi. After the events that brought us together, we found it rather easy to become friends. I also learned a lot about Kasumi in the time we spent together. From what she told me; her mother divorced her father shortly after she was born because he was having an affair with his secretary.
Cliché, right?
After that, Kasumi's mother, who I soon found myself affectionally calling Auntie Sora, took full custody of Kasumi and chose to raise her on her own. And from what I can see, Kasumi couldn't ask for a better mother.
I was very happy to have met Kasumi during my childhood, especially when it came to school. Starting school was a bit nerve-wracking for me. While in my old life I had already graduated, in this life I was starting from scratch. That wasn't something I was looking forward to.
Don't get me wrong, I was a fairly good student back in my old world, not exactly at a genius level, but I did fairly well. My way of doing schoolwork got me to get my bachelor's degree so maybe I'd do well. I was also looking forward to making some new friends.
When my first day of school came, it wasn't as bad as I thought. I made it through all of my classes with no real pressure, guess having the intelligence of an older 20-year-old came in handy, plus a lot of people were interested in seeing what I was like. I met some cool people but no one that I connected with as I did with Kasumi.
Speaking of Kasumi, she seemed to find herself in a rather interesting friendship with a girl named Reika. Reika herself was a little spitfire. She loved getting into trouble, going exploring, and even getting into a few scuffles. She was very fun to have around. She and Kasumi were kind of like the little troublemakers that I normally wouldn't have associated with, but Kasumi was my best friend and Reika didn't seem to fit in with any of the other kids our age. Somehow, we kind of found a small cluster with just the three of us. I was very happy with my friends. They were the loud ones while I was the one who kept everyone from getting too hurt or from getting too much in trouble.
I guess what dad said was true. Blood doesn't define family.
Reika was a stark contrast to the way Kasumi looked. She had tanned skin, long, dark red hair, orange eyes, and a very contagious smile. She and Kasumi loved doing all of the girly things you could expect from young ladies their age, they loved shopping and eating a lot of sweets, and they seriously geeked over the boy bands we had in our worlds. But it didn't bother me. They didn't judge me for my love of martial arts or mythology so I wouldn't judge them for their interests either.
My time spent with the girls was really fun. They helped me break out of my shell and enjoy my life more. When I wasn't with them, I spent a lot of time with my family members. Including Uncle Takahiro and Auntie Reina. They loved to dote on me, and my siblings, and they always seemed to find a way to either make my parents insane or just find a way for them to love them. Uncle Taka, as I called him, was a rather popular illustrator who did a lot of work for cartoons, and movies, he even had a comic book series. Auntie Reina was a fashion designer. Her clothes had been worn by some incredibly high-ranked people in Japan and she had even been contracted to create hero costumes by working alongside different support companies.
She was even the one who created costumes for both Midnight and Mirko. That was not what I was expecting but it was cool all in all.
Reika and Kasumi loved whenever Auntie Reina came over because they got to exchange ideas about how they wanted their hero costumes to look.
Yeah, like Kasumi and myself, Reika wanted to be a hero herself. Mainly because she wanted to set a good example for her younger brother Daiki. Daiki was only a year old, but Reika loved him very much. I also found myself becoming rather fond of the little guy. He was cute.
One day, the girls were hanging out at my house, and we were having a little tea party with my mom and dad. While my dad was a chef, he wasn't a baker or pastry chef in any manner of the word. But I was. Dad made the savory stuff while I made the sweets. And the girls loved the fact that I was able to bake them pretty much whatever sweets they wanted. While dad and I worked on the snacks, mom made the tea.
I never knew what she did but the tea she made wasn't like tea you would get anywhere else.
Dad and I served the food while mom set up the tea set. The girls arrived and we all just enjoyed the moment of peace between us all.
"You know," Reika said as she swallowed a chocolate brownie, "I just realized that with all the time we spent together, we don't know each other's Quirks."
I swallowed some of my tea, "Come to think of it, I don't know what you're Quirk is at all Kasumi."
Kasumi nodded, "That's right. I haven't shown you yet."
Kasumi placed her cup on the table and jumped to her feet. I was very curious about what kind of Quirk Kasumi had. I didn't know what she or her mother's Quirks were, so this was going to be interesting.
Kasumi smiled and in a puff of pink smoke, her body disappeared in a burst of pink haze. Everyone's eyes shot open in surprise as the pink haze seemed to move around the entire area before solidifying back into Kasumi.
"Wow, what the heck was that?" Reika asked.
Kasumi giggled, "My Quirk is called Misty Haze. It allows me to transform my body into a mist that I can use however I want. I can move quickly through the air, become intangible and let things pass through me, I can even solidify the mist to create different objects and weapons." She said summoning some mist in her hand and transforming it into a cute-looking daisy.
I smiled, "Wow, that's awesome Kasumi. If you continue to work with your Quirk, you could do a lot once you become a hero."
Kasumi blushed but smiled nonetheless, "Thanks Ma-kun!"
I smiled and turned to Reika, "What about you Reika?"
Reika smirked and let out a small laugh, "Watch this!" she said as her body suddenly gave off a bright red glow that seemed to make her skin steam.
"Whoa, that's hot!" I said making my parents laugh.
Reika giggled, "Oh yeah! My Quirk allows me to heat my body until I get hot. I can also superheat anything that I touch." She said still steaming.
"Cool, I bet that if you train your Quirk harder, you could even launch off fireballs." I said.
Reika seemed to love that idea as her eyes sparkled, "That's so cool! I bet I could get even stronger than Endeavour!" she said.
During my upbringing, I had practically seen how heroes like All Might, Endeavour, Best Jeanist, and other heroes from the series grew not only in strength but also popularity. As one would expect, the current Number 2 Hero was great at solving problems when getting physical was required but his overly serious and stern nature didn't make him the most popular. If Reika could become as strong or even stronger than the adult fire Quirk user, she could become a symbol for those who have more destructive Quirks such as hers.
Looking over at Reika, I quickly turned my head away and covered my eyes.
"Masato, why aren't you looking at me?" Reika asked.
"Rei-chan, you're Quirk is melting your clothes!"
Reika let out a squeal of fright. I felt my dad quickly put a hand over my face to block out more of my sight while my mom quickly led Reika away to put some clothes on. Thankfully, my sister had a few clothes that were small enough to fit Reika. After a few moments, I turned around and saw that Reika was fully clothed, thankfully, but still had an enormous blush on her face which was understandable.
I cleared my throat, "Well, despite the unfortunate wardrobe malfunction, that's still a really powerful Quirk Reika. When you become a Pro, I think a lot of people will sleep easier at night thanks to heroes like you and Kasumi."
My comment made the girls blush, but it also made them smile. My parents sometimes said that with the way I would constantly compliment the girls, I was going to end up as a serious heartbreaker, but I didn't see it in all honesty. I just liked complimenting women.
"So, what's your Quirk Masato?" Reika asked me.
Kasumi grinned, "Oh, Rei-chan, it's amazing! When Ma-kun uses it it's like he's surrounded by a rainbow!"
Reika looked at me confused before I smiled. I took a few steps away from the girls and cracked my neck. I raised both my hands with the palms facing up and was suddenly surrounded by the myriad of colors that I had come to expect with my Quirk.
"That's, so pretty." Reika breathed out. This was her first time seeing my Quirk, so it was pretty natural that she was impressed.
I smiled, "My Quirk is called Aura Force. It allows me to manipulate the energy within myself to do a lot of different things. I can strengthen my body, make myself faster, launch off powerful blasts of energy, create spheres of aura, I can create barriers, and even heal myself and others. I can use my Quirk in a lot of different ways, but I can easily become exhausted if I go too crazy." I said before covering my arm in a red aura and easily lifting my dad into the air while he was still sitting in the chair.
I set my dad back down and he rubbed my head before making my way back over to the girls.
"This is awesome! Once we all grow up, we should open a hero agency! I'll be the hero and you two can be my top sidekicks!" Reika said as she threw her arms over mine and Kasumi's shoulders.
I chuckled, "So we'd be sidekicks? Shouldn't the top spot go to the strongest hero?" I said pointing at myself with a smirk.
The girls pouted, "How exactly are you the strongest?" they said in stereo.
I shrugged, "Well, I do have the strongest Quirk."
"Why you!"
Both girls ran at me and tried to throw some punches at me, but I quickly threw my hands out and placed them on their heads to keep them in place. The girls did their best to try and get a good strike at me but with my hands in place, they weren't going anywhere. Moments like this were very special to me. They weren't big or important but the time I spent with my family and friends was like nothing that could be replicated.
Being given a new chance at life, I wasn't going to waste it. I would get stronger, smarter, and become a better man than I was back in my life. To keep everyone that I love safe and change the future of so many people in this world.
One Year Later: Age 7
I gave off a deep sigh as I opened my eyes. It was a sunny weekend, and I was doing my normal meditation routine. Kasumi and Reika were spending time with their families, so I decided to take some time to myself while everyone was off doing their thing. I jumped to my feet and headed downstairs to rehydrate. I was always so thirsty after my meditation.
After heading downstairs and into the kitchen, I grabbed myself some water and took a big drink. While I was drinking, I felt a burst of energy coming my way. Thanks to my Quirk, I could often sense different emotions or intents of different people that were around me. It was a real pain when it first appeared but thanks to my training, I got a decent handle on it. It was similar to Psychometry so once I sensed a certain feeling around me, I could wave my hand in front of me to generate a small amount of fuchsia aura to tell me the direction.
Reminded me of what Bridge Carson could do in Power Rangers SPD.
I waved my hand in front of me and the fuchsia aura appeared in a trail as I swiped my hand passed my face. This ability also allowed me to sense the people who were creating said feelings around me, letting me see through walls in a way. My Aura Sight, as I called it, was directed toward my backyard, and showed the general figure of my mom and dad.
Feeling curious I set my glass in the sink and headed into the backyard. What I saw took my breath away.
In the middle of the backyard, surrounded by falling leaves, and the light from the sun creating dancing shadows all over the place, my parents were sparring. But not the kind of sparring that you would expect.
Both of them were dressed in traditional Chinese Kung Fu clothing and were doing incredible combat moves that you could only find in the best quality martial arts movies. I knew that my parents were in good shape, but I had never seen them engage in any kind of martial arts at all. My dad was pulling off some traditional animal-style kung-fu techniques from tiger, crane, leopard, and snake styles while my mom responded with the most beautifully done Tai Chi and Baguazhang techniques that I had ever seen.
It was like a beautifully choreographed dance scene that someone with serious talent put together. I just couldn't take my eyes off the two of them. The way they moved just left me speechless. My dad threw a series of tiger claw strikes at my mom who easily parried the attacks with relative ease and pirouetted out of my dad's reach, but she made one step too far and tripped over a loose rock.
"Kiriko!"
My dad reached out to my mom as she began falling towards the ground. Going purely on instinct, I activated my Quirk and enhanced the strength in my legs. My red aura covered my legs and I pushed off the ground and slid underneath my mom right before she hit the ground. Luckily, she didn't hit the ground, but she did hit me, using my smaller body as a makeshift airbag.
I let out a grunt as my mom landed on me, but I smiled at her anyway, "You okay mama?"
My mother blinked when she saw me, "Ma-kun!" she yelled out in shock. My dad was quickly by my side and helped my mom to her feet before doing the same with me.
"Are you both alright?" My dad asked. My mom and I both got to our feet, and I looked at my dad.
"Yeah pops, we're okay. Didn't expect the fall though." I said.
My mother then began fretting over me and made sure that I didn't have any injuries on me but I assured her that I was fine. Despite my assurance that I was okay she still stuck by my side to be sure.
"Still though, that was awesome! I didn't know you two did martial arts!" I said excitedly as me and my parent sat down.
My dad laughed, "Oh yeah bud. Your mother and I have been studying kung fu for a few years now. It's actually how we met."
I blinked, "Really?"
My dad nodded, "Yeah, you see bud when I was younger, I enlisted in the military as soon as I graduated from high school. The military taught me a lot and it was thanks to them that I had the chance to travel around the world. One of the places where I was stationed was in Hong Kong my unit visited a local temple to learn some kung fu skills, and that was where I met your mom.
I nodded, "Wow, I didn't know you were a soldier dad."
My dad shook his head, "Not soldier bud, I was a marine. Did pretty well too. Got to train with some of the most skilled fighters on the planet."
"Is that also how you learned to cook?" I asked.
"Yep, during my travels, I got to sample food from all over the world. It inspired me to go to culinary school after I got out of the military. Guess it all worked out in the end." My dad said with a smile.
I nodded, "So, back to you and mom. I get why you were there pops but why were you at a kung fu temple mama?"
My mother chuckled and rubbed her hand through my hair, "I was there with my dance company. We were rehearsing for a show that we had in Hong Kong and my choreographer wanted us to incorporate some traditional martial arts moves into our performance," she said before looking at my dad, "That was when I met your dad."
My dad smiled, "When I walked through the doors of that temple and we locked eyes for the first time, it was like time stopped. I can't really explain it but it was like as soon as I saw your mom, I could see the rest of my life in that one moment."
"You always did have a way with words my love." My mom said as she and my dad shared a loving look.
I rolled my eyes, "Okay, enough with all the lovey-dovey stuff please."
My parents chuckled as we all shared a group hug, "After all that training, we did together, we just gravitated towards each other. I stayed in Hong Kong for a few more months with my unit while your mother did some more shows all over China. We dated for a while, moved back to Japan, and the rest is history." My dad said.
I smiled, "I like your history."
My dad tussled my hair while my mom kissed my cheek, I then got a really fun idea.
"Hey, can you guys teach me kung fu?" I asked.
My parents looked at each other, "Really? Aren't you already learning some fighting skills from Takuya?" my dad asked.
I nodded, "Yeah but I figure that if I learn from both Taku-nii and you guys then that would just give me a lot more skills to add to my skill set."
My dad looked at me, "Are you sure you don't just want to learn all these martial arts skills so you can fight?"
I shook my head, "No way! I don't want to hurt people. I just want to be able to defend myself when the time comes. Plus, I like martial arts so who better to learn from than my own family."
My parents took a few minutes to mull it over, but they eventually conceded. They could tell that I just wanted to learn so they allowed me to be trained by both of them.
This was something that brought me closer to my parents.
The art of kung fu.
My father taught me Northern Shaolin style, Tiger-style, Hung Gar, and Dragon style while my mother taught me Wushu, Tai Chi, Wing Chun, and Mantis style. While learning all of these kung fu styles along with the MMA styles that my brother taught me might seem a little like overkill for someone my age, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that each style I learned brought me more clarity and skill than I ever thought I had.
By using them in combination with my Quirk, I was becoming a real force to be reckoned with. I was almost like Shang-chi just with more powers. Every day when I wasn't doing schoolwork, or I was either with the girls or training with my family. My brothers were surprised by my drive to learn as much as I could, but they were also impressed, and they encouraged me to continue learning as much as I could to grow as a person.
My sister was a little more apprehensive. She was afraid that all the excess physical actions I was doing would take too much of a toll on me but when she saw how happy I was doing martial arts she relaxed a lot more. Plus, the karaoke that we would do on the weekends helped.
My friends were also very impressed by how much work I was putting in. Kasumi and Reika saw how much I improved both physically and with Quirk skills and they wanted to get in on it. My parents decided to let them in on our training sessions and both girls found out where they shined. Kasumi was really into Tai Chi, and she used it in conjunction with her mist Quirk. Taku-nii also referred her to a friend of his that offered to teach her Aikido which she gladly took up.
Reika was fierier and more upfront with her styles, so she stuck to the Northern Shaolin and Tiger styles that my dad was teaching me. She was very excited that she had a chance to learn something that was more in tune with her personality and whenever she brought over her younger brother Daiki, the little guy seemed excited to be involved as much as he could.
Too bad he was still too young to learn anything but in a few years, he'd be following in his big sister's footsteps.
As you might expect, with all the training that I was doing, my body began to show the results of my training. I had a six-pack. A freaking, six-pack! Not even in my old life did I work this much to have a body like this, and I was only seven years old! Who knows how good I would look when I got older and got into UA?
Only time would tell, and I couldn't wait to see it.
Two Years Later: Age 9
With the years passing and my childhood getting closer to an end, I just wanted to enjoy it as much as I could. I still enjoyed my martial arts training and I still looked good for my age. And it wasn't just me. Kasumi and Reika were also coming into their bodies very well and I could see it. My sister, mother, and aunt still teased me immensely that I would eventually end up with one of them. Personally, if I did end up in a relationship with one of the girls, I wouldn't say no. But I would cross that bridge when I came to it, for now, I would just enjoy the time I spent with them.
One thing I did notice was that whenever I was with my older brothers, we got a lot of attention. Especially from women. And I honestly could understand. We looked good. My brothers were already making names for themselves in their careers so people around town knew them already and I, well, I turned some heads.
Over the years my body and my style had changed. Currently, I was taller than most other boys my age and very muscular, I still had my olive skin was still unique in a way compared to some of the more unique colorings of the people around town that I saw, I cut my cobalt-silver hair into a short-cropped style, and whenever someone saw my eyes, they would say they were the most interesting thing about my appearance.
When it came to my clothing, I kept it simple. Black jeans, a long-sleeved dark blue button-up shirt, a black t-shirt, blue and grey sneakers, my silver chain around my neck, and of course, my black newsboy cap on my head. I had style if I said so myself.
A lot of girls gave me some flirty looks whenever I walked by, or as flirty as they could get for girls their age, but they never really made any kind of moves because two of the prettiest girls I knew were my best friends. Kind of made me gain a big ego because of it. Despite that, things went rather smoothly in my childhood.
My older sister was in her last year of high school and due to her incredible musical talent, she had already been poached by several different major music companies for her to begin her career as an idol. Music was my sister's life and it made me happy that she was able to find something that made her so happy. The day that her name would be heard all around Japan as an idol, I would proudly say that Dougai Aiko was my sister.
Currently, it was a beautiful Saturday morning, and I was walking through a beautiful, vibrant farmer's market with my dad. He wanted to look for something interesting to make for a special at his restaurant. While my dad wasn't a Michelin-starred chef by any means, he did have some serious skull and his restaurant was one of the more popular in the area. People loved his food. And so, did I.
The farmer's market was vibrant, full of incredible smells and sights, and just alive with color. Farmer's markets were one of my favorite things to go to both current and in my old life so coming to one with my dad was just incredible.
My dad and I stopped in front of a vendor selling fresh, local fruit. My dad looked around at all the produce around us to see what he could find to get inspired and while he looked at the fruit, I did the same. My dad didn't have a baker or a pastry chef at his restaurant and instead opted to serve desserts and pastries from a local bakery. When I got old enough, my dad let me serve a few things at his place too and the response was great. The people in the neighborhood loved my desserts.
"Hmm, hey Masato, what do you think of a mango salsa?" my dad asked me.
I thought it over, "It's not a bad idea pops but what would you add it on? Having a salsa as an option or a side dish won't get you back any money you would spend on the ingredients."
My dad nodded, "Very true. Maybe we put some shrimp on a bed of rice with the mango salsa on top."
"Maybe we could blacken the shrimp to add some spice?" I added.
"And add a sweet and spicy glaze with a little sweet chili and lime added to it."
My dad and I smiled at each other and high-fived. Coming up with recipes like this was something we did often. My dad knew about my love for food, and he could tell that I had some skill and passion when it came to food so he sometimes bounced ideas off of me to see if they sounded like they would work. It was a nice father-son bonding activity we did together.
As we walked around the market, my senses kicked off and caught my attention. I looked around and I saw a bunch of kids crowding around a certain area. Curious as to what was going on, I excused myself from my dad's side and made my way over to the crowd. When I got there, several kids my age were taking turns pushing around a young girl. The girl was getting tossed around like a ragdoll and despite the tears that were falling from her eyes, the kids didn't stop.
"Hey, join the fun! We're throwing this freak around!" a boy next to me said as he pushed the girl to another side of the ring.
"What, why?" I asked.
"Cause she's stupid! Look at her, she's dressed in one of those stupid goth Lolita-style dresses! It's so lame! No one wears that anymore!"
I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing. Kids my age were acting so cruel to an innocent girl and laughing about it. In my eyes, these were villain actions and that was not going to fly with me.
Once the girl got near me, I quickly wrapped my arms around her and immediately felt her trembling.
"Please, don't hurt me." She said quietly as tears flowed from her face.
I smiled gently and wrapped my arms around her in a soft hug, using my Quirk to calm her down just enough to where she wouldn't feel afraid in my arms. She seemed to stop shaking just enough and looked up at me.
"I won't hurt you. I promise." I said with a kind smile. She looked up at me and large blush formed on her cheeks. It was probably because a guy she didn't know had his arms around her, but she didn't struggle in his grip and just did her best to relax.
"Hey, come on man, we were having fun."
I unwrapped my arms from the girl, but she kept close to me for obvious reasons. I turned to the crowd and unleashed just enough of my Aura to push them back and give them a scare.
"I don't care what your reasons are or what made you do this. The actions you just took are not something people our age should be doing. You terrified an innocent girl and used her as a plaything just to give yourselves a laugh. Do you know who does things like that? Villains! All of you just acted like villains!"
My words had some serious impact on the crowd of kids and they all looked like they felt ashamed. In this world, when you did something and someone called you out on it to make you seem like you were a villain, that was probably a major way to make people feel terrible.
"But we were just having fun."
I turned to the crowd and made them all back up in fear, "How is bullying someone because of how they look fun?!"
The intense pressure in my voice resonated with everyone around me and caused them all to be scared and back away. Thanks to my past self being older than my current self, I knew how to talk to kids and how to get them to stop their naughty behavior.
"Now all of you, get out of here before I get mad," I said with a lot of them not getting the notion I was serious, "NOW!" I finally roared out, getting very annoyed with how they were acting. The pure force of my voice made them all jump in fright before every child around me ran away.
I let out a groan, "Man, that was annoying," I said to myself before turning back to the girl who was still standing behind me, "How are you feeling?" I asked giving her a kind smile. She didn't give me any response and instead just pressed herself into my chest and cried once more. I couldn't blame her. The event that she had just gone through was something no child should have to submit to. I had been bullied many times back in my past life and coming into my new life, I didn't want anyone around me to feel the way I did. And what this girl in my arms was feeling right now wasn't something she should have to go through just because of the way she dressed.
I didn't want to move so I just stroked her back and let her cry her heart out. In moments like this, a man just needed to be there for a woman. At least that's what my brothers would say. The people around me seemed to understand what was going on and just gave us our space. There were even some older guys giving me a nod of approval. They could tell what I was doing and gave me some respect.
After a few moments, the girl stepped back and wiped her eyes. My shirt did get stained by the black makeup she was wearing but I didn't mind.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to stain your shirt." She said.
I shook my head, "Don't worry about it. After what you just went through, I can understand." I said before smiling.
"I'm Masato. Dougai Masato. What's your name?"
The girl looked up at me with a blush on her face, "Yuna. Kuroki Yuna." She said giving me a kind smile.
"It's nice to meet you Yuna." I said.
Aya seemed to be a bit more relaxed around me and she soon found herself smiling once more.
I helped Yuna get herself back together and wiped the stained eyeliner off of her cheeks just as my dad came around and found us. I told my dad the situation and he was rather proud of me for standing up for Yuna and even more so for not getting violent with kids my age. My dad treated Yuna and me to some ice cream since it was something that she needed. Yuna's mother eventually found her and was worried sick when she didn't meet up with her at the time they were supposed to meet. And then when she saw how puffy her eyes were and the tears in her dress, she started to freak out even more.
Thankfully, Yuna was able to calm her mother down she told her about what happened and was so relieved that her daughter wasn't hurt. My dad and I introduced ourselves and Yuna's mother did the same. Kuroki Aya was very gracious at the fact that I was able to help her daughter and nearly dropped to the floor in gratitude, but my dad and I quickly stopped her. We didn't want anyone looking at us like we were insane, or the woman was crazy.
We also got a chance to find out a little more about Yuna and her mother. Aya was raising Yuna along with her lover Shizuku. Aya found her true sexuality after she and Yuna's father broke up. Yuna didn't know her father and her mother didn't want to bring him up at the moment which I could understand. Despite the history Aya had, she and Shizuku raised Yuna with as much love as they could. During her early years, Yuna discovered the Gothic Lolita style that had exploded in Japan a while back and while the style itself wasn't popular anymore, Yuna found herself drawn to it. Yuna and her family moved to Musutafu from Kyushu due to her mother finally being able to open her first storefront for her cosmetics company.
Yuna discovered the hard way that no one liked her style back in Kyushu where she was from, but she didn't want to change her style at all. She liked the way she dressed and so did I. I found her style of clothing cute and unique, which was something Yuna appreciated. She had a hard time making friends back in Kyushu but now she didn't have to worry.
Yuna and I found ourselves in a really easy friendship and even after we left each other after the farmer's market we managed to exchange numbers and met up again on a few other occasions.
I eventually introduced her to Kasumi and Reika and as I expected, they soon became inseparable. The girls weren't far from each other's presence, and I was usually along with them. The girls and I were always with each other, and we always had fun. Thanks to being around Kasumi and Reika, Yuna soon came out of her shell and we all got closer. We also found out what Yuna's Quirk was. She could manifest a pair of shadowy wings from her back that she can use to fly through the air, slice through concrete, and even wrap around herself to camouflage herself and move silently through the air. The time that she spent with the girls meant a lot to her from what I could tell, and she loved her new life in Musutafu.
And so did I.
My new life was going great, and I couldn't have asked for a better group of friends. However, the fun in my life soon ended when a tragedy struck my family.
It happened shortly after my brother won the Light-Heavyweight MMA championship. His dream had finally come true after years and years of hard work and I couldn't have been prouder of him. But one night as he was coming home, he was attacked by a group of low-level thugs that lost money on his prize fight. While he fought them off with relative ease, one of the thugs had an electrification Quirk that affected his light energy Quirk in some way and caused him to have severe nerve damage throughout his entire body. Effectively ending his MMA career.
My older brother suffered deep depression after this and didn't even leave his home for almost 4 months. I couldn't take seeing my proud, big brother suffer so much but I knew it was primarily mental and I knew he needed time to recover but he couldn't be like this forever. So, one day, I went over to my brother's house and punched him in the face.
I needed to wake him up and that punch was what he needed. Taka-nii almost attacked me before I was able to calm him down. My brother suffered severe depression and losing his ability to fight was a serious blow to him but being the little brother that I was I wanted to be there for him. My family helped Taka-nii get through his depression and helped him figure out what he was going to do with his life.
While he couldn't fight anymore, he could still exercise and train. That was when he chose his next avenue in life. He decided to open up an MMA gym where anyone who wanted to learn the art could come and learn. He employed several of his MMA friends and together they created Eight Banner Combat Sports. The eight banners were a reference to the number of people in our family including our aunt and uncle and my brother's love for history.
It didn't take long for his gym to gain some serious popularity and grew more than he could imagine. And it made me very happy.
My family was very important to me and the fact that we all came together to help out Taka-nii create something that he can have for a long time and help others gain combat skills just like him. Now his life was back on track, and he could get on with his new goal. Helping the next generation of fighters find their way to the ring and the championship pedestal.
Seeing my brother find his way in the world and seeing my other family members grow in their respective fields made me even more adamant to become a hero. My family put their blood, sweat, and tears into doing what meant the most to them and I wasn't going to be the only one that didn't follow through.
The day my Quirk manifested; I made a promise to myself that I would change the way My Hero Academia went towards the end of the series so that all those that lost their lives would be able to continue living on. And now, I swore to myself to make it come true. For the family members I love and the friends that I had come to know, I would fight for a safer world.
For all those who would come into the world.
