The car was absent from the driveway . The normal blue glow of the television no longer spilled out of the living room window. The yapping of mom's chihuahua was my only greeting upon arriving home .
" Shut up," I snapped down at the little rat nipping at my heels with dull fangs . The creature only glared up at me with empty eyes that seemed about ready to pop out of his skull .
Stepping over the still yapping dog I wandered into the kitchen. A flick of a switch flooded the tiny room with a golden glow that flickered like those park lamp posts. A large yellow paper held to the refrigerator by a hello kitty magnet drew my attention.
Mom's water broke , it read in the messy handwriting of my brother. I crumpled the paper up into a small ball before flicking it off somewhere in the room.
In truth I was more concerned about if the milk in the refrigerator had expired or not . Taking a good sniff of it sent my stomach twisting about. I slammed a palm over my mouth as I rushed over to an overflowing trash can .
The next few minutes saw me dry heaving but thankfully no real throw up fell from my lips . The milk was definitely expired and in need of replacing.
Everything needs replacing or cleaning up in this house . Dirty plates are stacked up among the murky sink water . Flea zooms by my ears with an annoying flapping of wings . Dirty clothes littered the floor that had not been swept in weeks . Clutter of all sorts sits on all spare surfaces , table or countertop . Nothing was spared from the fate of being messy .
Two of the burners on the stove no longer worked . The microwave hardly heated up the water in a ramen cup after seven minutes. The sofa was missing a cushion .
I stalk out of the kitchen and headed up the stairs . My mind almost forgot to remind my body to jump over a stair step that had broken months ago.
The instinct to clean was making my hands tremble. But I refuse to pick up after one of my family members ever again . I am not my mother's caretaker or my brother's maid .
Upon reaching the top of the stairs I was greeted with the sight of my bedroom door being ajar. The door was supposed to be shut and locked . The door handle lies abandoned on the carpeted floor .
Peering inside the room revealed that my desk had been replaced with a bassinet . One that I had been forced to purchase once mom had commented about putting her future baby in a chester drawer or on a pillow .
Brother had leaned against the archway leading into mom room laughing his ass off as I struggled to put the bassinet together. Finally I threw my hands up in the air and told him to put it together. To my surprise he actually agreed to do something useful.
"Don't worry about it anymore," He said just a few days ago.
I trusted him due to not wanting to deal with the annoyance this entire situation inspired within me . Everyone, everything had been simply annoying these last few months since father had been gunned down .
My bedsheets were stained black with ink that had once been held in little glass jars . My quill pens layed crushed and drowning in the drying ink ponds. You … my diary had some of your pages ripped out of you .
At least there was little fear in my heart about if my brother had read through my entries . I have my own written code that I use to talk to you . So no one will ever know if I was writing out a plan about killing my brother or complaining about homework.
I picked up your diary and hugged you to my chest . Ink stained my uniform blouse but what did I care about that .
Glaring at the bassinet I wanted nothing more to empty mom's wine over it before setting it aflame with a match. But sadly that would not come to pass . The arson would to easily be linked to me .
Instead I threw my drawers open and filled a small suitcase full of clothes. Grabbed toothpaste and toothbrush from the bathroom. Collected an unopened wine bottle from mother's bedside table.
Oh… and I poured the chunky milk all over my brother's bed .
Then I exited the house without closing the front door behind me .
All throughout this the endless yapping of the chihuahua was lost on me until I was a block away from the house . The creature was still following me and yapping.
That's when I started to growl and scream at the little thing .It's mindless bulging eyes finally flickering to life with a growing fear.
I tossed the suitcase in the dog's direction which sent the creature whimpering away. Backing back down the sidewalk with its rat-like tail tucked between its twig legs .
I picked up the suitcase and continued to walk without a yapping dog lingering in my shadow . Thank God !
My walk to the Yagami was long and quiet .
After two sips of wine I managed to get both my luggage and myself onto Light's balcony. The blinds were pulled completely across the glass door of the balcony. If I avoided making noise then I would not have to deal with the risk of Light kicking me .
I sat down with my back pressed against the low wall making up the railing of the balcony. The next couple of hours went something like this , write the first entry then fade into sleep then wake up to author the second diary entry .
Eventually boredom and a backache forced me to knock on the glass door until the blinds were pushed aside . Light wrinkled his nose up at me when he caught sight of me . My matted hair and rumpled school uniform probably offended his sensitive sensibilities .
Still he slid the door open before gesturing for me to enter with a loud sigh .
" Be quiet, you idiot, your parents are probably trying to sleep," I teased with a little smirk that only grew bigger when the Light Yagami cursed .
" Your the fucking idiot."
I unzipped my bag to pull out the wine bottle that long since ended up among the folded up clothes. Then the bag landed on the ground next to the desk with a sharp slap .
" What happened to the importance of quietness ," He asked, arms crossed over his chest.
I picked up a cup full of water from his bedside table . His nostrils were flaring like a raging bull when he gazed between the cup and wine . Light had stepped in front of the slightly opened sliding door. There was nowhere in the bedroom where I could logically dump the water out at . I could just drink it but someone needed the water more than me. The cup's water splashed into Light's seething face .
" You might ex- ."
My smart ass comment was destroyed by Light slapping me upside the face . The skin burned with a deep tingling and my teeth bit on the edge of my tongue. Luckily no taste of blood came to linger within my mouth . It still caused my eyes to grow watery though .
I threw back my head and laughed until a thick dizziness settled with my mind . Then I took a long sip from the uncorked wine bottle before grabbing a chunk of light front shirt .
Pulling him close until our lips meet in a blistering kiss.He bit at my bottom lip and in retaliation I shoved my tongue between his lips.
Wine poured into his mouth with its burning touch . Pushing him away from me caused his balance to become quite shaky . He was not able to save himself from falling onto his ass .
He accidentally swallowed the wine amongst the backdrop of the fall . Coughs rattled his form with a growing intensity .
" Are you alright sweetie,"Light's mother asked from behind the door. The handle twisted about but still the door did not open .
" I just tripped and choked on some water. Don't worry though because I am alright now ," He said in an eerily calm voice that was only faintly raspy from all the coughing.
His dark eyes almost looked red in the faint light of a lamp. Those red eyes were glaring into the very depths of my soul .
I plopped onto the edge of the bed and smiled before taking another sip from the bottle.
" Are you sure ," Light's mother asked.
" Mom , I promise… sorry for waking you up ."
" It's alright and Goodnight , sweetie."
It took everything within me to not giggle at his mother calling him sweetie.
Light rose to his feet before settling in his desk chair . His fingers lightly pinched the bridge of his nose while he took a few deep breaths . Those red eyes slowly dissolved into their calm brown shade .
" What set you off this time,"He dared to ask while he peered up at the ceiling .
" Do you ever want to kill Sayu ?"
Light sighed again before gesturing for me to hand the bottle over. I hugged it to my chest in response.
"I am not going to steal all your wine," Light said before rolling his eyes at me .Light would either take it away or drink all of the wine so his sober self would not have to deal with my shit.
" My mom didn't get to drink this before her water broke ," I mindlessly commented before drinking until dark spots appeared in my vision from lack of oxygen.
"We are both equally fucked up so why is your mom such a sweetie ," I growled , cheeks growing more rosy after each long sip.
My head is spinning so much that I barely fight to keep the bottle in my hands . Light places the bottle onto the desk with a growing frown spreading across his face.
"I don't know," He said , while I kicked my shoes off and crawled underneath the covers .
When my head landed against the pillow, sleep dragged me away from this world.
I dreamed of a winged monster that sent my heart racing .
The winged monster took a bite of an apple and released a pleased humm .
"You're almost interesting," The creature said before I shot up in bed panting .
Light was tying his tie of his school uniform at the edge of the bed . He raised an eyebrow at my abrupt outburst.
My racing heartbeat was already slowing down and the beads of sweat that raced down from my temples were being wiped away .
"Something is going to come looking for that notebook," I said to him when he came to stand next to where I lay .
"That something wanted someone to pick up what it dropped," Light answered , gently brushing his fingertips over my bruised cheek .I chased his fingers away with my hungry teeth .
" Fuck off ," I finally snapped and Light rolled his eyes before gathering his book bag.
" Everyone is going to be out of the house all day . Mom , keeps her makeup in the cabinet underneath the sink ," Light said before walking out of the bedroom.
I need a decent friendship. One where we do not have the desire to kiss and beat up one another. But to be honest my heart is not made for a decent friendship. To be even more honest I never had a real friend.
It's about time to get out of bed and hide my messed up cheek with stolen makeup. No… I am not going to do that . I am not some desperate housewife trying to hide the evidence of a powerful slap . Quite frankly I really deserved the slap.
Maybe I should search the room for the death note and take the time to write down more names. It would pass the time until the winged monster comes to collect his possession.
