Court House Witness Area

"What the Hell? How the Hell did Hoyt get in here?" Vince Korsak was something he rarely got, irate. His friend and partner had just been assaulted, again, by a serial killer. He marched up to the guard who had been assigned to Hoyt and started berating him. He stopped as he looked over and saw Det. Jane Rizzoli doubled over, face red and struggling to breathe.

"...get...Maura..."

"I'll deal with you later." He shoved the guard and went in search of Dr. Maura Isles.

Maura had stuck around the court house after finishing her testimony in hopes of seeing Jane. She was getting a cup of coffee when she became aware of a commotion in the hallway and went to investigate. She ran right into Vince Korsak who grabbed her arm and started pulling her back through the crowd.

"Jane is having some sort of medical issue!" He was shoving people out of the way in an attempt to get to Jane. Maura was with him every step of the way until she saw her girlfriend and realized she was in the middle of a panic attack.

"Everybody move! She needs space." She got to Jane who collapsed in her arms. Maura held her as she sat down and began talking to her as she took her vitals. "Jane, look at me...it's ok. You are ok." She glanced up as the EMT's arrived. "She needs Atavant, inject able. She is having a panic attack. I am her doctor." Maura's heart broke as Jane clung to her. She ended up going with Jane in the ambulance and shouting at Korsak to call Angela and that they were going to Mass General.

Mass General ER

Angela and Korsak were anxiously waiting for Maura to update them. "Vince, I don't understand what happened. How did that animal get to my Janie?"

Korsak ran his hand through his hair. "Allegedly it was an innocent mix-up. I've asked IAD to launch an investigation. I am so sorry, Angela. This is on me."

Angela shook her head. "No, this is on that animal. Janie was just doing her job."

They looked up at the sound of heels clacking on the floor and stood as Maura approached. Both Angela and Korsak asked in unison, "How is she?"

Maura smiled. "She's better. And a bit embarrassed, I think." She motioned to Angela. "You can go see her." She turned to Korsak, "She can go home tonight. What's the latest on Hoyt?"

"Janie?" Angela didn't want to wake her daughter if she were sleeping.

Jane, who was higher than a kite thanks to the Atavant, reached for her mother. "Mommy! How are you? I feel goooood." Just as quickly as the good mood came, a crying jag came. "Mommy, he hurt me. Twice."

Angela sat on the side of the bed and pulled Jane to her. "I know baby. I know. It's going to be ok, I promise."

They sat in silence with Angela rocking Jane back and forth, whispering calming words to her. Jane calmed considerably and even drifted off for a few minutes, before waking with a jolt, no less drunk.

"Mommy, I'm in love." She giggled "With a girl! Maura. I love Maura. And she loves me."

Angela replied, "I know baby. I know." She adjusted Jane so she could see her face, but she was already asleep again. "Oh Janie..."

Maura's House

Angela and Korsak had helped Maura get Jane back to Maura's and up the stairs. Maura was about to guide Korsak to the guest bedroom, when Angela told him to take her to Maura's bedroom, the blonde faltered.

"She needs somebody to watch her tonight, if that's ok with you?"

"Uh...sure.. Yes, that's fine."

After they got her put to bed, Korsak left leaving Angela and Maura alone. Maura fixed warm tea for both of them and they sipped it in quiet for a long while. Maura felt a shift in Angela's demeanor, and prepared for whatever was about to come.

"Angela..."

"Maura..."

They laughed at what just happened. Angela motioned for her to continue. Maura nodded.

"Is there anything you would like to ask me?"

Angela smiled, "Is there anything you would like to tell me?"

Maura answered the question honestly, knowing she would breakout into hives if she lied. So she considered her answer carefully. "No. I mean, I wanted to thank you for trusting me to take care of Jane tonight."

Angela took another drink of tea and subtly watched to see if Maura was breaking out in hives. She was disappointed that Maura's skin was clear. She reasoned that if Maura broke out, that meant she wanted Angela to know, and if she didn't, she wasn't ready for her to know.

With no signs of hives, she finally responded. "Maura, I know you and Jane are...close and that she will listen to you before anybody else. I also know you won't abuse that trust or hurt her." That was as close to an acknowledgment as she could come to without an admission from Maura. Jane had been drugged up and unlikely to remember her confession. She hugged Maura and told her she loved her.

Maura turned out the lights and joined Jane in bed , where the detective clung to her all night.

Jane awoke the next morning feeling groggy. She raised her head looking for Maura, not seeing her, she called out for her with a scratchy voice."Maura?"

"Hey. How are you feeling?"

Jane sat up and immediately felt sick. Maura grabbed the wastebasket and watched as Jane threw-up. She got a wet washcloth and handed it to Jane, who used it to clean her face.

"What happened?"

Maura looked at her. "You don't remember?"

Jane thought and then said, "Hoyt. Lousy bastard got me in the bathroom. And then something happened...?"

Maura came back from the bathroom with a clean towel and handed it to Jane.

"You had a panic attack, we got you to the hospital and gave you a shot of Atavant."

"How did I get here?"

"Me, Korsak and your mother got you home. Your mother had him put you in my bed."

"Ma?" Jane tried to remember anything from the night before, but came up largely blank. "Why?"

Maura shrugged. "She just wanted me to keep a close eye on you." Maura looked at Jane. "Have you ever had a panic attack before?"

"Not...really." The truth was, Jane had had a handful of panic attacks in her late teens and early 20's. She had never told anyone, knowing it would mean desk duty as a cop until she passed psych testing.

Maura had learned that Jane was adept at evading questions and now was not the time to press her. She nodded and continued with her next question. "Do you remember what Hoyt said to you?"

"Yes. He said he could get to me and you anytime he wanted." She looked down and felt tears stinging her eyes. "Maura, he knows about us. Before, when he had me before, he asked me...asked me what you tasted like. What you...smelled like. Down there." Jane began crying. "I'm sorry Maura. So sorry. You deserve so much better. "

"Hey, look at me. Look at me." When Jane finally looked up, Maura continued, "I do deserve the best. That's why I have you."

"And I will never, ever let anything happen to you. I promise."
