Chapter 198 Michael
Sam moved off quietly, following Dean. Dean stopped after a minute and noted the location on the map. They were just about to move off when Dean felt the hairs on his neck rise.
"I'm feelin something, Sammy." Dean whispered.
"What?"
"Pressure, ears are sore. I can see a faint white glow."
"I can't see anything."
"Let's follow for a minute. I promise just for a look."
True to Dean's word he stopped every ten meters and looked with the night vision.
"It's getting stronger."
"Go easy."
Dean soon had them ten meters from a wide stone, stepped circle. Down in the middle was a man sitting cross legged.
Dean saw him through the binoculars, easy to see in the moonlight without tree coverage.
"Shit, is that Adam?" Dean whispered.
"How?" Sam asked.
"Come down Dean and I will explain." Whispered a voice in Dean's ear.
"He asked us to come down."
"What do you think?"
Dean scrubbed a hand over his face. "Let's get a bit closer and see."
Dean and Sam started toward the area, staying at the top of the circle. "Who are you?" Dean asked.
"Dean, Samuel, nice to see you again."
"Michael." Dean said flatly.
"Shit." Sam drew the colt.
"It's okay, Sam. I want to help. I don't need my true vessel." Michaels voice floated up to them, very soothing.
"Let's hear it." Dean asked.
"I am here as you are. Lucifer will rise."
"How are you in Adam?" Dean grunted.
Michael came toward them but stopped a few steps up. "When you gave Adam a hunter's funeral it wasn't Adam."
Sam and Dean frowned at each other. Michael tilted his head.
"Adam's soul appeared in heaven some time before you cremated him, or thought you did. After you wrapped him, as is your way, an angel replaced him with the body of a hunter that had been a vessel to a demon, so you burnt a hunter, just not the man you thought."
Michael climbed a step.
"Where has he been?" Asked Sam.
"We rejoined his soul and body, a very painful process. Kind of like being tortured in hell." He looked at Dean with a soft smile. "It left his mental state battling his physical state. He was my backup if I had to rise and couldn't convince you to be who you meant to be." Michael waved a hand at Dean. "When you killed Crowley it changed you. I could still use you as a vessel but I wanted a pure vessel. Adam was my last card, as you say." He stepped up one step.
"Before you killed Crowley we had parley and he told me of Lucifer in purgatory.
I tried to enter and smite him but he has written Enochian warding's on the walls so angels cannot enter. I have tried to make a new portal but cannot. I asked the question of Adam and he said yes at once. I had several angels use him as their vessel to build up the power to contain me. Adam's mind is now absent and he may never regain consciousness. At this stage the vessel is strong."
"Peachy. What are your plans?" Dean asked straight out.
Michael raised two more stairs. "I need help to get in. With your new powers you can enter purgatory and break the warding."
"Are you going to kill him?" Sam asked.
"Yes. He would have to have regained some of his strength to be coming out. At least that is my understanding. I can see no other reason demons are gathering."
"Will fighting in purgatory effect earth?" Sam asked
"Yes."
Dean put his hands on hips with a sigh as Michael climbed up to their level standing back to show good intention. Dean stepped back.
"We'll think about it." Dean turned his back as if to walk away. He a step before his dream came to him and then Cas's words in Chihuahua. He swung back to face Michael wiping a hand down the bottom of his face. Sam knew he had an idea just from that gesture.
"What about the cage?" Dean asked.
Michael tilted his head.
"What's the condition of it?"
"It has been damaged but it is still a physical cage."
"What if we could drop the cage into purgatory, fix it, force Lucifer back in and return the cage to hell." Dean asked in a soft voice.
"The ninth circle of the worst part of hell. How do you propose to get it?"
Dean shrugged. "Can you get it?"
"I could. I put Lucifer in the cage I know where it is. If you have the stewards ear that would be a better way of doing it."
"Was it hard work? Shoving his ass inside." Dean grunted.
"Yes. I had help from my garrison."
"What if we get help?" Sam asked, catching on to Dean's plan.
"Who do you mean?"
"Anyone we can. Egin offered help from hell." Dean said.
"Your steward, yes. There are some 'hard hitters' as you say. I can call a garrison to help but only when the wards are off."
"So we need help to get in and remove the wards." Sam said.
"Lucifer will be there. It had better be good help." Michael said softly. "It will be difficult."
"Are you willing to go with this plan or is smiting all you know how to do?" Dean challenged.
Michael looked to the heavens for a moment as if searching for an answer.
"You think of me as a brute and a warrior. I am also gods favourite. I admired the work he did to create this world. Humans are his pride and joy. It is what Lucifer fought our father over. He wanted to be the special one, dads favourite."
"Look how that turned out." Dean muttered.
"Yes, look how that turned out." Michael looked sad. "Because of my loyalty to my father I will try your plan. If we cannot gather forces I will return to my plan."
"Thank you, for the chance at least." Sam stepped closer showing a faith of his own.
"Return tomorrow night at midnight and I shall call muster."
"That soon?" Sam asked sharply.
"The demons gathered so far indicate he has less than a platoon. We may be looking at one of your weeks but we should strike now before he has an army or leaves purgatory. He doesn't have his true vessel and may need to get out to get another. He will burn through vessel's one would think."
Dean stepped forward and shook Michael's hand. "Tomorrow night." His hand came away tingling and his physical body felt the best it had in years.
Sam followed suit and they walked back the way they had come. They turned back in time to see Michael disappear in a shower of sparks. Dean stopped and wiped his hands down his thighs.
"Holy crap!"
Sam rubbed Dean's back. "Great job, babe. I can't believe he's going to do it."
"We will see about that."
"Was that from the dream you had?" Sam frowned.
"Yeah, meaning someone wanted me to see it."
"Leading to even more questions." Sam breathed. "Okay, let's go."
