The citizens of New York panicked as what seemed to be a giant blimp appeared above the city, some insects flying off of it.
Thankfully, a Providence Jeep drove up and the agents kicked the door of the truck and walked out to face whatever EVO threat was looming over them, the twins and Six among them as they grouped at the United Nations building.
"We're on it," Six said into his radio and turned to the twins. "Be ready for an attack scenario Delta Nine."
"Delta Nine?" the twins chorused, turning to each other with a shrug.
"We didn't even know there was a Delta One," Rex said.
"You never taught us that," Roxie agreed.
"Study the manual."
"There's a manual?" Rex asked as the twins looked to see a giant spider-whale EVO drop down into the city, several flies swarming around it.
Providence braced themselves as the EVO opened its mouth, foam dripping off its tongue.
"Ugh, this cannot be good," Rex said.
"Get ready!" Six ordered, drawing his swords. "On my signal!"
The foam dispersed and from out of the shadow's of the EVO's mouth stepped...
"Hello, Rex. Roxie."
"Van Kleiss," the twins sighed as Roxie facepalmed before Rex built up his Smack Hands and Roxie summoned her battle axe as the twins leaped into the air to engage their arch nemesis, only for Skalamander and Biowulf to appear and they were instantly swatted aside and they landed on the whale's tongue.
"Okay, we're ready for a fight," Roxie said as she began engaging Biowulf in combat, both slicing at each other as Six nodded to his team of agents.
"Take him down!" he shouted, rushing forwards as Providence opened fire on Van Kleiss.
Six leaped into the whale's mouth and started slashing at Skalamander as he was swatted aside as Roxie summoned her ray gun and blasted at Skalamander, sending him to the side as Six got a call on his radio.
"Can it wait?" he asked, blocking a claw strike from Biowulf with one of his swords. The claw strikes continued as he saw Rex and Roxie swat Skalamander away with their weapons as Six looked on, confused at the call. "And that's an order?"
Six kicked Biowulf away as Rex sandwiched Skalamander's head with his Smack Hands and Roxie gave him a mighty strike with his axe, sending him into the walls of the whale's mouth.
"Stand down! Now!"
The Providence agents ceased fire as they all looked on, confused.
Rex deactivated his Smack Hands and built up his BFS as he and Roxie rushed at Van Kleiss, only for their bladed weapons to be blocked by Six's swords.
"Rex, Roxie, stop! We're ordered to stand down. Van Kleiss isn't to be touched."
"Oh, he won't feel a thing," Roxie said as she swung her battle axe at her hated enemy, only for him to casually tilt his head to the side to avoid it as he smirked at her, only for Six to kick her to the side.
"That's enough, you two," Six said as Providence trained their weapons on the twins.
"Are you kidding me?!" Rex asked.
"United Nations. Van Kleiss of Abysus?" two representatives asked, walking into the whale's mouth. "Next time, you might want to give us a heads up before entering our airspace."
"Of course. I'd hate for anyone to jump to the wrong conclusion."
The twins stood scowling as Van Kleiss shook the hands of the representatives.
"Okay, anyone want to give us the news flash?" Rex asked.
"Yeah, I mean, this guy wants to destroy all of humanity so that EVOs can rule supreme," Roxie said. "And suddenly we're not allowed to attack him?"
"Apparently, the Pack has diplomatic immunity."
"As leader of Abysus, a member nation to the United Nations, myself and my ambassadors are afforded certain... courtesies, correct?"
As the paparazzi stood outside as everyone exited the whale's mouth, the twins rolled their eyes.
"Who is this guy?" one civilian asked as Rex piped up.
"Introducing Van Kleiss. Just your average ordinary everyday murdering psycho EVO."
"Unlike Providence, we're not here to promote violence."
"Bullshit," Roxie coughed into her fist.
Six put a hand on the twins' shoulders to calm them down as they saw Breach approach and behind her was none other than...
"Circe?" Rex and Roxie asked.
Circe said nothing and walked off.
"I'm here to propose a peaceful solution to these trying times."
"Are we actually buying this shit?" Rex asked.
"Seriously, guys? Van Kleiss, a diplomat?" Roxie agreed. "He doesn't even believe in his own rhetoric!"
"Unfortunately, we don't have a choice," White Knight sighed. "He's within his rights to be here."
"Based on what we know about him, I didn't even think it was possible for him to leave Abysus without its nanite-infused soil," Holiday wondered.
"Good," Rex said. "It should make it easier for us to finish him off. He's on our turf now."
"Until he pulls one of his schemes, you two can't touch him."
"So what?" Roxie asked. "We're just gonna sit here twiddling our thumbs until he leaves?"
"Six and Holiday are going to a party at the Abysus consulate. If Van Kleiss wants to flaunt his immunity, then we'll take advantage of it."
Below the screen, a compartment in the wall opened to reveal two invitations to the party. Rex and Roxie opened the envelopes and were then met with an unwelcome surprise.
"Hey!" Rex shouted. "These are addressed to us!"
"What gives?" Roxie asked.
"We need precision, not a blunt instrument. I'll reference this morning as a prime example."
"You two are taking it better than I thought," Bobo said as he walked with the twins down the halls.
"Oh, Bobo, I'm wounded," Roxie smiled. "I thought you knew us better than that."
At the party, Holiday stood wearing a beautiful blue dress and suddenly looked to the right to see Rex and Roxie showing up in formal wear.
"Bellesa," Rex said to Holiday. "So that's what you look like under the lab coat."
"What happened to Six?" Holiday asked.
"Um, a mission came up," Roxie lied. "Shall we?"
Two EVO guards that were connected at the hip stood on guard at the door as the twins and Holiday walked up to them.
"Que pasa, hefe? We're on the list," Rex said, showing his invitation and the guards separated to let them into the party.
Six suddenly slashed an X into the closet he was locked in and kicked the door in with a growl, angry at Rex and Roxie for locking him in there.
Back at the party, Skalamander shuffled by two partygoers as Holiday took a device out of her purse to scan the area around her.
"Strange," she said. "There can't possibly be enough EVO activity to account for these nanite readings. They're off the scale!"
Roxie sighed as she put her hand on her purple dress and looked at her brother.
"Looking for Van Kleiss, bro?"
"No. Circe. You saw her in the whale blimp, right?" Rex asked.
"I think so."
"That's the girl you met in Cabo Luna, right?" Holiday asked.
"She may be with the Pack now, but I still think I can talk to her."
"Yeah?" Roxie scoffed. "Good luck, bro."
"Come on, sis," Rex laughed. "You know I can be pretty convincing."
Outside the consulate, Six and Bobo marched up to the party with Six scowling at the little prank the twins pulled on him.
"Locked in your room?" Bobo asked. "You're losing your edge, pal."
"And if I find out you had any part in it..." Six warned, causing Bobo to gulp.
"So how you wanna do this?"
"By the book. Seven Alpha."
"Bad Monkey protocol it is," Bobo said, leaping forwards to the door guard. "Hey, ugly! Show me those claws are real, you tar-brained lump!"
The guard didn't take kindly to that and brought its claw down on the railing as Bobo leaped forwards to avoid it and ran off. The guard separated into two with one half chasing after Bobo as Six approached to get in, only to be stopped by the remaining half.
Six looked up to see Bobo climb into the party through an open window. Six only nodded and walked off.
Rex, Roxie and Holiday wandered the party to find Circe, only to hear a bone chilling voice behind him.
"Rex," Van Kleiss said as Rex turned to him, flanked by Biowulf and Skalamander. "So glad you and your sister could come. Would you do me the dubious honor of introducing your guest?"
"Dr. Rebecca Holiday," Rex said. "There. Now let's take this outside."
"Rex," Holiday scolded.
"That's alright. The determination of youth," Van Kleiss chuckled. "I'm sure Circe will be disappointed she couldn't see her, Rex. She's attending to other duties this evening. Now, if you'll excuse me."
"Cut the crap," Roxie demanded. "Why are you really here, Van Kleiss?"
"The people of Abysus have a great deal to offer the world. I'm here in part to make that known."
"Or maybe you couldn't get us to come to you so now you're coming to us," Rex suggested.
"I will admit that you two are very important to me, Rex... but it's not always about you."
As Van Kleiss walked off, the twins looked to each other with unsure looks before out of the corner of his eye, Rex spotted Circe upstairs.
"Rex, wait!" Roxie said as Rex ran off up the stairs.
"Be careful," Holiday said.
"No need to be jealous, Doc. I'll be fine."
Outside by the back entrance, Six waited for a few minutes, until the door opened up to reveal Bobo.
"What took you so long?"
"Crab cakes," Bobo said, holding up the delicious meat as Six walked in.
Back at the party, the duo walked up to Holiday and Roxie with a serious look.
"Where's Rex?" Six asked.
"Relax. He spotted Circe," Roxie explained.
"Good. Maybe he can get her to talk."
Holiday strutted up to Six with a sly smile.
"You look... nice."
"Circe?" Rex asked as he walked up to Circe, who was covered head to toe in dirt. "Interesting look. Want to tell me what's going on?"
"Not today," Circe said as a shadow loomed over both of them.
Rex turned his head to see Biowulf approaching, and Rex got into a fighting pose, only for Circe to whack him on the head with a piece of metal, knocking him out cold.
Later, as Circe placed Rex into his holding cell, Biowulf approached his master, who gave a simple nod before addressing his partygoers.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I thank you for attending, but I must now bring this reception to a close."
The party applauded as the guard EVO walked upwards to lead them out.
"I'll see you all tomorrow at the assembly when I announce my speech to the world. Good night."
"I don't see Rex anywhere," Holiday said to Roxie and Bobo.
"We'll find him," Roxie said as she and Bobo ran off.
As the partygoers left the consulate with Six and Holiday watching on in concern, Bobo and Roxie waited until the waiters left from cleaning the tables to look for Rex... but not before Bobo grabbed a roll from the platter.
Roxie planted herself against a wall as Bobo walked in, only to be met face-to-face with Biowulf as he emerged from the shadows with an unhappy growl.
"I'm... uh... just looking for the little chimp's room."
Biowulf wasn't fooled and gave a bitch smack to Bobo, knocking him out as Roxie looked on and gulped at him as he knocked her out too and tossed them both into the cell with Rex.
"Where... ugh... where are we?" Rex asked as Roxie groaned and folded her arms.
"Where do you think, bro? We're in one of the luxury suites at the Abysus Hotel? Van Kleiss has us captive."
"Don't get used to the view," Rex said, activating his Smack Hands and bashed at the door, only for nothing to happen as the Smack Hands cracked. "OOOOWWWWW! Owowowowowow!"
"You really didn't think he would plan for this?" Bobo asked.
"If this thing is impervious to Rex's builds, it's probably impervious to any weapon I can possibly think to summon," Roxie said as she folded her arms and sat down. "Get used to it, boys. We're gonna be here a while."
On the Providence Ship that was used to transport Six and Bobo to the party, Six and Holiday were talking with White Knight.
"As far as we know, Rex, Roxie and Bobo are still trapped inside the consulate," Six reported. "i can still put together a strike team to save them."
"And risk causing an international incident?" White Knight asked. "I'm not authorized to permit that. If the twins are in trouble, then they're gonna have to get themselves out of it. But we can still take advantage of this. For now, they're our only chance to find out exactly what Van Kleiss is up to."
"Whatever it is, those incredibly high nanite readings have to be a part of it," Holiday said.
"But what and when? Sweep the U.N. building again. In a few hours, we won't be able to go anywhere near the place?"
"Reinforced steel," Rex examined the cell. "No edges, no seams."
"No way out," Roxie realized.
"Must have had the two of you in mind when they built it," Bobo sighed.
"If it's a prison cell, they've got to be watching us," Rex said.
Rex and Roxie examined the cell with a fine tooth comb as Roxie spotted a tiny camera where one of the bolts should have been and smirked.
"Peekaboo," she said cheekily as she touched the camera and used her nanites to overload the camera, which caused an explosion that blew the cell's controls and the door opened as the EVO guard from before ran over, only to be smacked into the wall with a warhammer.
"We'd better scram before the warden gets here," Bobo said.
"Not a chance," Rex said as the twins looked down to see a dirt trail and nodded to each other as they followed the trail to the elevator. "Circe had this stuff all over her clothes. I'll pry it open."
Rex activated his left Smack Hand to open the elevator, only for it to open as Bobo had simply pressed the button.
"Funny how that works, huh?"
The twins and Bobo rode the elevator down to what seemed to be an entire mine underneath the consulate.
"I think we missed the lobby," Roxie said, weirded out.
"You wanted dirt, Rex? Now you got a lifetime supply."
"Wait a minute," Rex said, placing his hands on the dirt and focusing. "This isn't just plain old dirt. It's nanite-infused soil from Abysus!"
"What?!" Roxie said, feeling the dirt and focusing herself to confirm it. "But how did all of this get here?"
"More importantly, how did that get here?!" Bobo asked as the twins screamed out as a giant worm EVO slammed into the ground by them and they quickly recovered.
"Ai! Vamanos!" Rex shouted as he they ran away from the worm EVO
"Mas rapido!" Roxie agreed.
They each dove away as the worm slammed after them and recovered instantly as Roxie summoned her warhammer again and Rex activated his Rex Ride and shifted the front to bumper mode.
"The only thing grosser than a juicy worm..." Rex said as he used his Rex Ride to avoid the smashes from the worm and then shifted to his Punk Busters to give a mighty kick to the thing.
"...is a squished one!" Roxie shouted as she finished it off with a mighty smash to the head from her hammer.
The worm recovered, getting the hint as it retreated back into its nest.
"Taste some pain, worm freak!" Bobo shouted. "Now we got another problem."
"And that would be?" Rex asked.
"Do either of you remember where the elevator is?"
"Oh boy," Roxie sighed.
"This could take awhile."
A little bit later, the twins followed Bobo down a canal in the tunnels below the consulate as Roxie groaned at her fine shoes getting wet.
"Great path you discovered here, Bobo," Roxie complained.
"Must be along the Hudson."
Suddenly, they heard a noise from nearby and gasped as they hid.
"Listen," Rex ordered as they peeked behind a corner to see none other than Breach opening portals to Abysus and the EVO worms along with the soil coming out of them.
"So that's how he's doing it," Roxie realized. "He's pulling the dirt from Abysus into the consulate through Breach."
The EVO worms also began spitting out the dirt from their mouths before retreating back into the portal and getting more soil. As they came back through, the two worms noticed the twins and Bobo, who got up, ready for a fight as Breach sent them after them.
"Wait!" a panicking Circe shouted, showing up and letting out a sonic screech from her maw that stopped the worms in their tracks. "I'll deal with this."
Rex and Roxie prepared themselves for a fight.
Meanwhile on the surface, the paparazzi were flashing pictures of Van Kleiss as he moved up to the U.N. building, flanked by Biowulf and Skalamander while Six walked carefully behind him along with some Providence agents.
As Six followed them up the stairs, however, he was instantly halted by the cops as they moved in front of him.
"No sign of trouble from Van Kleiss... yet," Six reported. "And still no word from the twins."
"The twins escaped," Biowulf told Van Kleiss.
"No matter. Even they can't get in my way now."
Van Kleiss walked up to the podium to be greeted with a massive applause as he began his speech.
"Ladies and gentlemen, for too long, Abysus has been an outcast on the world stage. That ends today!"
"Well, thanks for nearly bashing my brains in back there!" Rex shouted. "And what's with the whole knocking me out thing?!"
"We just needed to keep you two out of the way until all of this was over," Circe explained.
"This?!" Roxie shouted as she gestured. "All this soil?! With this many nanites, Van Kleiss could destroy all of New York!"
"Van Kleiss is trying to negotiate peace from a position of strength."
"Oh yeah," Rex said. "Because when I think of peace, I totally think of Van Kleiss loading himself up with nanite power!"
Breach, not taking part in this, gestured one of the worms to leave and it burst through the ceiling of the mine.
"His methods may be aggressive, but he's here to save us... and you two," Circe said, leaning in to Rex. "Come on, Rex. Jump in with us. The water's fine."
"I promise I'll think about it... after we've stopped Van Kleiss."
"It's too late for that, Rex," Circe sighed as she and Breach stepped back through the latter's portal back to Abysus.
The twins glared after her as Bobo pulled Rex's arm and pointed to a hole in the ceiling.
"The dawn of a new age of EVO power begins today! Through me!" Van Kleiss announced as he raised his arms and a massive worm EVO grew out beneath him, prompting the entire audience to run away screaming.
The cops opened fire on Van Kleiss, only for his tree to slam giant nanite-infused roots from the ground on them and all of the delegates were backed against the doors.
"And when I'm finished, all of you will have no choice but to submit."
Outside, things weren't much better as giant roots burst through the ground, granting Six and Providence's attention and the roots ensnared the entire United Nations building.
The Providence agents all opened fire on the roots as Six sliced them all apart before they reformed and Six was left with no choice but to contact Holiday.
"It's a hostage situation. No one is able to enter or leave the United Nations building."
The delegates all panicked as Van Kleiss smiled down wickedly on them.
"You can't escape!"
Suddenly, a loud rumbling was heard as a hole was suddenly formed in the ground and Bobo leaped up as Rex and Roxie both appeared with Roxie on her hoverboard as Rex flew up with his Boogie Pack and both landed on the ground in a graceful pose.
Van Kleiss only applauded, not surprised in the slightest by their appearance.
"Well, you two certainly know how to make an entrance."
"We're not gonna let you hurt one person here, Van Kleiss!" Rex shouted.
"Oh, I don't intend to... as long as they do everything I ask. To start, I'll ask that all nations submit to my authority."
"Hey guys!" Roxie called. "The whole holding you hostage thing means that the guy just blew his diplomatic immunity, right?"
The British diplomat only nodded.
"We are free to smash!" Rex said, activating the Smack Hands as Roxie drew her sword sand they two shouted out as they leaped towards Van Kleiss... only to be sent crashing into the ceiling from a ton of vines before being tossed into the bleachers.
The delegates panicked as the tree creature inched closer towards them.
"Right under your noses, my lifeblood was crawling beneath your feet, strong enough to crush a dozen Rexes and a dozen Roxies."
Suddenly, a crunching sound was heard and Rex and Roxie stood up with a grunt.
"You're gonna have to finish these two first."
"Hang on a second," Roxie said before she ripped the longer hem skirt of her dress off and tossed it aside, now looking like she was wearing a short skirt. "That's better."
Rex then activated his Boogie Pack and gave a flying tackle to Van Kleiss as Roxie summoned her battering ram and gave a wicked smash right out of the wall of the building.
Van Kleiss smiled and simply tapped the ground, sending out tons of roots seemed to go for the twins as they flew out, but went right past them and started growing everywhere. He then sent a massive surge of vines at the twins, only for them to dodge as Roxie grabbed him by the collar and flew him high up into the sky with her hoverboard as Van Kleiss growled at her.
"Unhand me, you cretin!"
"If you insist," Roxie smirked as she let go of Van Kleiss and sent him falling straight down onto a building, crashing down through several floors of the Empire State Building.
Back on the ground, the Providence Agents moved into the hole created in the U.N. building as Bobo hopped out.
"Hey, what do you say?" Bobo asked as the worm EVO moved in with a loud screech.
Providence then broke out the heavy artillery and the agents and tanks all unloaded everything they had on the worm EVO as well as Biowulf and Skalamander. Fortunately for the latter two, Breach appeared through a portal just in time for the two EVOs to bail out.
The worm EVO thrashed around with a massive roar, detsroying everything in sight as one of the Providence agents even gave out the Wilhelm scream.
Fortunately, two Providene airships appeared and started unloading their gatling guns into the creature, tearing several holes in it and the building behind it and the EVO fell to the ground, dead.
"We're good," one of the agents wsaid as the ships flew off.
Van Kleiss recovered as Rex and Roxie flew over the as he emerged from the Empire State Building, obviously in pain.
"You two have made things very difficult for me, Rex and Roxie. "Delaying this will only result in more suffering."
"Who's suffering?" Rex asked. "Ours or yours?"
Van Kleiss summoned two giant hands made from roots from the ground below the twins and smushed them together and they groaned out in pain.
"We will not be ignored," Van Kleiss said as he raised himself up to their level. "Circe understands this. Why can't you respect her judgment?"
"You think you can lure us in with her," Rex realized as Roxie rose an eyebrow at this.
"Like a fish to water."
Van Kleiss then manipulated the root hands and smashed the twins down into the mines in the sewers from before straight into the waters and Roxie ran it through her hands and then smiled as she looked to her brother.
"Water."
The twins immediately got to work as they smashed their Smack Hands and Roxie formed two large gauntlets on her hands and both smashed into the walls as Van Kleiss showed up from the hole above.
"I'll admit, you two. You have me a bit stumped on your idea this time," he smirked. "Taking out your frustrations on a wall?"
"It's not the wall, idiota," Roxie smirked.
"It's what's on the other side."
"NO!" Van Kleiss shouted as the twins gave one last smash to the wall and a massive torrent of water burst from the resulting hole and all of the nanite-infused soil was washed away and the resulting surge of mud was flushed out into the East River as the twins smirked as they flew outand saw the river turn brown.
"I think the East River can handle a little more trash," Rex said as the twins were about to walk away, but two more roots flew out of the river and ensnared the twins' necks as a livid Van Kleiss appeared and smirked wickedly at our heroes.
"I value you two greatly, Rex," Van Kleiss said, kneeling down to their level. "But now, you and your sister are getting in my way. And I can't let that happen."
Fortunately, the soil from Abysus dissipated in the water and all of Van Kleiss' roots withered and died. Van Kleiss looked around and the twins gave a massive punch, knocking him to the boardwalk as the Rex activated his BFS with a smile.
"We've won," Roxie smiled.
"It seems you two have," Van Kleiss smiled and wiped the blood from his lip. "Your parents would have been so proud of you. I've never had the chance to tell you two about the, have I?"
The twins' glares softened as Rex deactivated his sword and a flying EVO swooped in and picked up Van Kleiss and they both flew away from the twins.
"Perhaps another time."
The fly flew up towards the whale EVO and a portal was opened in front of them. The twins caught a brief glance at Circe and Breach as the whale's mouth closed and it flew in through the portal, which closed behind them.
Six approached as Roxie panted
"We almost had him," Rex sighed.
"He would have had us," Six assured. "That was really smart thinking with the river."
"At least now the world knows that Van Kleiss is a total psychopath," Roxie shrugged. "And the next time he even thinks about leaving Abysus, there's no more diplomatic immunity to protect him."
The twins heard a throat clearing and turned around to see Bobo standing in a Providence truck.
"You two got new orders."
"EVO?"
"Nah, some knucklehead punched a hole in the East River. Needs someone to plug it up."
Rex smirked as Roxie gave a bow to him. "I'll take the shortcut."
He then blasted off with the Boogie Pack and dove into the filthy East River with a sigh as Roxie rolled her eyes with a smirk.
"Were those my pants?" Six asked as Bobo and Roxie's eyes widened in horror.
