*Author's Note*

God, it's good to be back! I have postponed this chapter for a long time now, and it's infuriating! Anyways, a new chapter has finally been published, WA-HOO! If you want me to keep this story going, I recommend leaving a review, as that's my ONLY payment I'm getting from y'all...

I would make (P)atreon, but I'm not that desperate...yet...

Chapter Three: "Run Boy Run"

Fluttering of grass echoed through the peaceful jungle as Caesar and Rex made a quick jog around it.

The jungle thankfully didn't have many bugs to the point of annoyance, though they were still present as quiet yet noticeable buzzing could be heard.

But other than that, the jungle sported a mostly tranquil place, with the sounds of falling river could heard in the background. It was peaceful, a far departure from the previous moment.

Caesar couldn't help but thank Mother Nature for such a calming place. Him and Rex strolled through the forest, watching nature do its course. And by god, was it beautiful.

Rex was easily persuaded by the natural scenery of it all. The trees, the ambiance, the cool breeze grazing his skin. It was nothing short of amazing. But, that didn't took away his anxiety. He recalled hearing the rustling of the bushes from earlier. No matter how much he's like to think that it was part of his imagination, something in his gut was telling him the opposite!

...Well, it's either that or he's just really really hungry for some burritos. We may never know.

Though, he was sure of one thing at that moment... ... ... ... He needed to pee. "Umm, Caesar? Caesar~?" Rex desperately called. The older Salazar perked up once he heard his name. He turned to his back and saw his little brother sparing a sheepish look at him.

"What is it, Mijo?" Caesar asked and raised a brow, curious.

"Can I go to the bathroom?" Rex questioned, now carrying a desperate look on his face. He knew they were in a forest, he could just pee anywhere. But he couldn't exactly do it.

*Beep!* *Beep!* *Beep!*

Caesar immediately looked down at his pocket when a familiar ring noise caught his attention. "Of course, who says you can't?" Without looking at Rex, Caesar sunk his hands down in his left pocket and recovered a device of his. The Nanite Inspector. It's self-explanatory, it's used to inspect Nanites, whether on machines or a subject's body.

This was created mainly because of Rex. Having to deal with Nanites in his body, Caesar built this device to keep tabs on the effects on Rex's body, to ensure that they know what's happening in case of Rex having to have some negative reactions.

Caesar held the device in front of himself. A hand lifted over his head and scratched a part of it once Caesar dumbly look at the screen of the device. It detected massive amounts of nanites.

It took a second, but Caesar noticed Rex was still standing in the exact same spot as before, as if waiting for Christmas to arrive.

He quirked a brow, curious as to why Rex hasn't gone already. The younger Salazar crossed his arms and waited once more. As he realized the questioning gaze directed at him, his eyes drifted away sideways, trying to save his dignity. "I can't go when you're right in front of me."

Caesar immediately clicked on what Rex was inadvertently saying. "Oh! My bad, hermanito. " Caesar turned back to where he was a minute ago and started walking out. "Go ahead. You can wait for me in the lab, I'll be back. I also have something important to do."

While interested at what Caesar meant by important, Rex shrugged it off and scanned his surroundings for a decent place to do his own business.

Caesar hoisted his device around the air, as if trying to get a signal. He re-examine the screen on the device again. And from what he saw, he was colored surprised and stupefied. He dumbly scratched his head with his free hand. While it's not an impossibility, he still found himself shock at what he saw.

The device was inspecting high amounts of Nanites Everywhere. The air, the trees, You name it; it has Nanites in it.

Right after the explosion, Caesar was certain that the nanites contained in the machine would spill all over the world. What he didn't expect was that the nanites already infected everything, didn't the Nanite Explosion just happened like 15 minutes ago?

How's it already doing here, possibly 30 miles away from Abysus?

Caesar cupped his chin and his eyes continued to linger on the Nanite Inspector. His mind did came up with some few theories, but he mentally pushed them away. There's a high chance that all of them were wrong. Nothing was concrete.

He hoped that everything will be explained in due time. But for now A little more deep inspection of the jungle wouldn't hurt.

Just as he thought of this, the rustling of leaves caught his ears, diverting his attention towards it. Caesar's head quickly faced his back. Nothing.

What he saw was nothing out of the ordinary. Though, he spotted the subtle back & forth weaving of a few leaves and bushes. But other than that, everything was there the way he first saw it.

Caesar narrowed his eyes in suspicion, before nonchalantly shrugging. "Eh," Came a casual response from the genius prodigy, before standing up and taking his business on somewhere else.

"Ugh," Grunts couldn't help but escape his mouth as he tried to make his way through the jungle. From where he was at, the bushes and grass almost consumed his entire being. Using his hands to clear a path for him, Rex pushed aside the tall grass in the way before continuing with his walk.

Rex had already done his business, but curiosity got the better of him. His mind had thought that it would be a good idea to explore the jungle and find out what caused the sound from before.

...Either that or he's just lost and he wouldn't admit it to himself.

After a surprisingly long time, Rex found himself finally out of the clutches of the tall grass. Once he set foot away from it, Rex let out a sigh of relief. He then stop his tracks and scanned where he was exactly.

He was at a open area of the jungle, allowing the clear sky to be displayed at its full glory. Though that wasn't the main thing that attracted most of his attention. No, it was a wide camp tent just sitting in the center of the open space.

It has a blank white sheet with four metal poles in a formation of a square sustaining its place. It was filled with ice containers, a table and a monitor.

Rex absentmindedly made his way towards the campsite and from there he found himself asking, 'What's this doing here?' He later got the idea that this must be the remains of some travellers. Probably a family considering how wide it was.

His eyes flickered at one of the containers. His focus remained at the container for five seconds before unconsciuosly walking up towards it. Rex knelt at it's level. A hand pressed firmly at the lid.

Cautious, his hand opened the lid and he let a small opening to peek his eyes through. Rex cocked his face forwards and let his eyes roam around what's inside the ice container.

A chilly breeze blew onto his face, giving him an amazing feeling. He honestly wanted more of that. He didn't get to try though. His scan continued and what he saw was a few bags of ice-cubes, and in between them were plastic bottles that contained a liquid with a color that reminded him of grapes.

Seeing that there's nothing more than those two things, Rex lifted the lid up completely, allowing more cool breeze that grace hit Rex's skin. He took in the pleasure of it all before taking a hand inside the freezer.

The ices smoothed into Rex's hand. He didn't knew why, but he really liked the feeling. Pulling his hand out, Rex recovered the plastic bottle.

Dark crimson eyes curiously examined the label glued in the middle of the bottle. It was then that he realized that it was actually just a grape juice. It was a surprise, but not unwelcome.

Rex was about to take the cap off, but hesitated. His mind clicked as to what he was doing and it gave him internal crisis, He's stealing.

.

.

.

.

.

Cautious, Rex turned around and surveyed the surrounding forest for any signs of human beings. After a moment, he smirked to himself. 'All Clear~'

Without skipping a beat anymore, the hispanic troublemaker opened the bottle and jug the contents onto his mouth. While he knew what he's doing was wrong, he argued with himself, he's still a child with lots to learn. Besides, it's the owners' fault for not securing their belongings.

Rex twisted the bottle cap off and held the bottle slightly over his head. Titling it, the grape juice poured out and fall onto Rex's mouth. Saying it was refreshing would be understatement, Rex have came to the conclusion, that he never regrets his decision!

Unbeknownst to him, footsteps could be heard from near him, though he was too ignorant to care. This was until- "What the-?! Why's there a kid here!?"

Taken aback by the sudden voice, Rex accidentally choked on the beverage. He tried to gasp in surprise but the juice was in the way of his throat, which lead to him vomiting out purple liquid all over the place.

He was thankful though that it didn't spread over his shirt.

Taking a moment to gasp for air, Rex immediately dropped the plastic bottle on his hands. His head snapped at his side and saw where the voice came from.

It obviously came from a man, judging how deep it is, but what unsettled Rex the most wasn't the voice...it was the man's appearance. The man wore a military-esque uniform with a black & white color scheme. The man before Rex was wearing some black balaclava mask that covered every part of his face, which made the hispanic kid's mind to fill the blank of what's the man looks like under the mask.

P.S: It wasn't a pretty image.

Just to add to his anxiety, in the corner of his eye spotted a group with similar outfit, with just their heights being the trait that can set them apart from one another. They were walking up to the campsite.

Rex's heart skyrocketed. He's caught red-handed! All he could do at that moment was put on a sheepish smile directed a the man in front of him. "Whoops~ How did I got here?"

He heard himself say those words. And he couldn't feel more angry at the pathetic `excuse` that just escaped his mouth. The man placed his hand up over his face and pulled off the mask.

With the mask now gone, what was shown was a average looking man with light brown hair, and carrying a grumpy frown.

"What's going on?" The brown haired man turned his back for a second just to look at his fellow comrades. Rex immediately took that as a window of opportunity.

Right as the brown haired man was about to answer, Rex quickly booked it out of there, sprinting at a random direction. The man heard his rapid footsteps, and divert his attention back at the kid. His eyes widen in horror as he saw that said kid running towards a secluded area of the jungle.

His fellow comrades finally had made it besides him. "What happened?" One of them asked, kinda lost during what went down.

The brown haired man gritted his teeth in anger. "A kid's gonna die, that's what's happening! Come on!" The man took the lead, running after the kid. The soldiers tensed up when they heard him say that. They didn't question anything, and followed the man's lead.

Rapid footsteps was heard and Rex was displeased by it. 'Oh great, they're chasing me now. Way to go, Rex!' He chastised himself mentally, his eyes scanning for anything that could help him get out of this horrible situation.

"Kid, stop right there!" A voice yelled at him, as if it would do anything for his favor.

Rex ignored them, choosing to run as fast as he can instead. A bead of sweat rolled down on his forehead. The sudden heat stroking his body. A sore feeling in his legs made his run cycle slow down a bit. Rex was getting tuckered out. It's not long for them to catch him at this rate.

He needed something, anything, just so he could escape them!

*ROAR!*

"REX! GET DOWN!"

...You know what? I think, he'd rather take his chances with the soldiers right about now.

A few seconds earlier, Caesar was having a quiet research time. Granted, it was a confusing, but intriguing at the same time.

It's quite a fascinating trip, honestly. Though, while he was minding his business, an abnormal growl sound interrupted the peaceful tranquility that Caesar liked.

Hearing the sounds, Caesar checked over his shoulders if someone, or something, was behind him. All he saw the something he had been seeing ever since he stepped out of the lab. So basically, nothing's out of the ordinary.

Other than that out of nowhere growl, everything seemed to be nothing noteworthy...with the exception of the fact that Nanites were everywhere. Coming back to the more important topic, Nanites were everywhere!

No matter how much he said it, a part of his mind refused to accept it. Maybe it was thanks to the fact that days haven't even passed since their parents passing yet. He was still grieving inside. It was overwhelming to keep up.

Wait...parents...parents... "Be sure to keep Rex safe..." The voice of Rafael made a comeback inside his head.

It suddenly clicked on Caesar's mind. "Wait, where's Rex...?" He halted his tracks. He then realized that he's been absent-mindedly pacing around the forest.

One of his weird stress relievers was to pace around and let his mind wander off. And did it left Caesar between a rock and a hard place. Once he snapped out of his stupor, the genius prodigy scanned his area for any familiar signs. After an unsuccessful scan, he found himself lost in nature...with limited items for survival...

"Rex...?" Caesar worryingly called, turning his head towards every direction as if that could get him to find his little brother. "Mijo...?"

No response. He was only met with silence. "Oh great...I lost him." Caesar muttered, slumping his head down in disappointment. "Well... In technicality, I'm the one who got lost..." He said, as if it would make his circumstance better.

He may be calm on the outside, but trust me when I say, his mind was going overdrive about losing Rex. Not even letting his anxiety took over him for a second, Caesar shoved his free hand in his pocket.

Thankfully, he has a plan. He suspected to see Rex next to his lab impatiently waiting for him. So, he took out a device that's main use was to track certain things. It was a tracking device, of course. It was a two-part device, one that sends signals, and the other receives that said signal.

The one that sends signals was fortunately attached to his lab. To which Caesar gave a sigh of relief and calmed down.

Turning on his device, Caesar awaited for the signal to arrive.

*Whoosh!*

...There it was again...That sound...

Caesar took his mind off of it as he has more important matters. It was probably the wind that caused it...right?

Well...of course...Why wouldn't it be? Caesar closed his eyes shut, deeply forcing his wild imagination to get away. It wasn't helping at all!

'Deep breaths, Caesar...Deep breaths...' He took exercised breaths, melting away the anxiety he's having. Once he was sure that his mind was clear, Caesar opened his eyes...

...And before he knew it, dark crimson eyes glared back...

In the span of seconds, his fight or flight reflexes kicked into high gear. He didn't had time to process how the crimson eyes got right up in his face without him knowing it. All he did was turned tail and achieved great running speed he didn't even knew was capable for him.

The owner of crimson eyes let out a monstrous screech that pierced the sky, startling any living being near its vicinity.

Well, Caesar's theory was thrown at the window real quick. That was definitely a monster! There's no way in hell that it was anything but that! He would double check to make sure...if it wasn't for the fact that his life was at risk!

High on adrenaline, Caesar quicken his pace, which was somehow possible. Thumps, footsteps, screaming, he heard it all right behind him, indicating that the thing was hot of his tail.

*Beep!* *Beep!* *Beep!*

The tracking device beeped at the worst possible of times, notifying Caesar about the location of his lab. He quickly brought the device in front of him to see where he needed to go, a move that was almost fatal.

In a small window of opportunity, once Caesar was frantically searching for his whereabouts, the Pursuer used all of its energy to boost itself high in the air, letting out a roar while airborne.

Caesar was thankful for its predatory instinct as that roar was a accidental cue for him. On instinct, he duck his head down and grinded his foot onto the ground, to which he came to a grinding halt.

He stopped just in time for the Thing to miss his form. The monstrous Pursuer landed on the plain land and got confused. It swayed his head from both his sides.

While it's still in confusion, Caesar took it as a chance and fled his way out. The monster took awhile to realize it, but once it did and turned to his back, the genius prodigy was already a tiny speck from it's perspective.

Growling in frustration, the Monster took off and chased Caesar's fleeing form, determined to catch him no matter what.

*Beep!* *Beep!* *Beep!*

The tracking device beeped once more. It's North.

The device informed Caesar to head North. He didn't hesitate on fully trusting his device. During his trip, Caesar occasionally tripped on some dead branches, and hit his face on some tree limbs. But other than that, it was going fairly good so far.

Far into his run, Caesar's mind took note of the sudden quietness. Was the Thing finally out of his proximity? Was he finally able to rest now?

Wanting a clear answer to these questions, Caesar looked over his shoulder while still mobile. He was greeted with an (oddly) lovely sight of just the plain surroundings.

The Thing...was nowhere to be found. It was gone.

Caesar slowed down before completely stopping his tracks. He used the quiet moment to take shallow breaths as his physical body was almost pushed to its edge. But thankfully, the chaos...slowed down.

Not stop, slowed down.

*Roar!*

Oh, would you look at that, the chaos was back at it again!

Caesar's eyes widen in shock, fear, and disbelief. Instantly, he was brought back to run again towards north. And right as he started sprinting, the Thing leaped out of its' cover perching right next to the Older Salazar.

Fortunately, Caesar was already rushing away before it could get a grasp on him. Having the image clear on his mind, he worked off of memory alone and recalled his tracking device's direction.

Not skipping a beat, Caesar continued on. After what felt like an eternity for Caesar, but in actuality was three minutes of running, his line of sight bumped into a something that momentarily caught his attention.

When he was coincidentally running right at it, he got a close look.

From his perspective, he saw a speck running towards him. At first he thought it was another monster, but as he got more and more closer, he had realized that the speck was... ... REX!?

*ROAR!*

Caesar instinctively turned to look over at his shoulder. His eyes caught the beast leaping at him once more. What concerned him wasn't his life at risk, but instead was Rex indirectly running into a crossfire.

So, his first instincts was to look after Rex. Caesar snapped his head towards where he should be looking and yelled to the top of his lungs. "REX! GET DOWN!"

Rex heard the familiar voice called for him to get down. He was confused by it to say the least. Like Why was the voice so familiar? Where did it came from? Why did he need to get down?

Those question swirled around his mind. And it was all answered in a surprisingly small amount of time.

Rex's line of sight came across a vigorously running form of Caesar. He then saw a shadowy figure suddenly emerge out of nowhere, right behind Caesar.

He saw Caesar drop himself on the ground. Rex reduced his pace slightly and couldn't help but let his eyes follow the shadowy figure... Within a microsecond, he had came to realize that it was a grave mistake as the figure was gonna pounce on him!

Losing his sense of equilibrium, Rex accidentally tripped, falling on his butt. And he laid there with the definition of fear in his face. As if it would even help him, he threw his right arm to shield his face and screwed his eyes shut.

...It was over for him...

A gun cocked. "There you are, you filthy EVO." What followed was a series of gunshots breaking the calm atmosphere that the forest had. The Monster was sent back due to the impact of several bullets shooting through it at once.

The Salazars flinched at the sounds, though both stayed in there respective places as to not get caught up in the massacre. But out of curiosity, Rex slowly peak his eyes open.

What he was greeted by was the sight of the soldiers that were chasing him minutes ago, firing at a what he assumed was a monster.

The brown haired man from earlier stopped himself from firing anymore rounds and held up a fist in the air, to which the other soldiers halted their assault on the monster.

The brown haired man took cautious steps towards the limped body of the monster. Once he was in the right amount of distance, the man inspected the monster closely.

...

A few minutes of silence had gone by until the man turned to his comrades and spoke, "Lower your weapons. The threat has been neutralized." He proclaimed in an authoritative voice.

His men lowered their weapon as they were ordered and relief washed over them, with the Salazars included...

"Told you we should have gone with Formation B." One of the soldiers commented.

"I'd rather stick to toilet duty than be bait!" Another soldier angrily replied back.

"Enough." The brown haired man interrupted their argument early. He then looked at the Salazars, who were still laying on the ground probably exhausted.

He sighed and turned to his back. Using two fingers, he pressed something in his left ear, which elited a beep that Caesar felt momentarily intrigued by.

"Knight To Providence. We came across two childrens in our vector." Caesar couldn't help but feel offense to that. He wasn't a child! "Requesting immediate Pick Up."

"Copy that."

*Author's Note*

Wassup readers! That about wrap things up for this chapter. Thanks for reading this! Please leave a comment telling me what you think of it!

As I've said (or type) in the beginning, this chapter was postponed for a long time now. I got stuck on a certain part and can't even conjure up anything. It's either writers block, laziness...or depression... I'm fine don't worry. OR it's the fact I couldn't set my mind into fully committing to my GenRex crossover story; RESIDENT E.V.O/Exponentially Variegated Biohazard (Which title is better?)

My mind always comes up with new GenRex crossover possibilities (Chainsaw Man, Cyberpunk, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill), they all have great potential for great stories, yet the only thing that's stopping me from writing them down is the lack of time. It's annoying, but I'll live with it.

Sorry for the long ramble, I just had to get that out of my system.

Now, it's time to answer the previously un-answered reviews from chapter two (I'm very sorry about that, it was pretty late when writing it):

YellowAngela (Chapters 1 to 3): HEY! Thanks for dropping on by and reading my stories! Been following your works ever since I first got into this site. Also for the compliments about my writing. It means a lot as I'm a Filipino, and english isn't my mother's tongue. Also thanks for the encouragement, I needed it so much during my time of doing school work. I'm optimistic to see what you think about this chapter.

Red Parasite: I'm sorry for such a short chapter. I write 2,000 - 4,000 words. It helps me to publish out new chapters more faster. Yes, Rex is still a 10 year old. It wouldn't make sense if he suddenly turned into a 15 year. I thought that the chapter made that clear... Oh, Well. Hehehe, just imagine Rex suddenly turning to his canon show's age in the ship. Caesar would be like; "Who The HELL Are You!?". Yes, but actually no. They are sent 5 years to the future, they just arrived sooner than Caesar's first appearance.

Spectarbeyond: So glad that you drop a review, I need as much support as I can get! Okay, when after reading your comment about Rex gaining a different nanite other than the Omega, I was like; "I'm sorry, that's possible!?" I then felt stupid for not knowing that, even it was clearly displayed in the show. That would be interesting idea though...But, I'm still gonna go with the Omega Nanite. I probably would play around with that concept later, if I have the time.

And, That's all for this chapter! Don't hesitate to comment! And as always stay safe!
PEACE OUT~!
