CH 7
After they left Joan, Dave and Laura walk back in side and sat down "Laura you know Evan not dumb what wrong he knows your sick" she started to cry. Joan got up and walked over and sat next to Laura rubbing her back.
"Laura what is it"
"The two months before Evan and Reg had the fight, I went to the doctors, I found two moles. I had them removed and tested. They both cancerst so while Reg was away for a few days Evan was on school camp and Dylan staying at a mates place I went into hospital to have further tests done to see if the cancer has spread, it is in my lymonodes. I've secretly been having chemo since then. I had teatment yesterday that is why i look terrible today"
"I remember you went away for a few days, can you tell us about that"
"i went to see Sam"
"Evan's father" Dave said
"Yes, I've been keeping in contact with him and sending photos of Evan to him so he would know what he looks like. When I saw him he was older, working hard like he always does. We meet up at a hotel where Les that his partner in the building interderdy wouldn't know because they and Reg are old mates, they keep in contact but if Reg ever finds out that i went to see Sam alone, i hate to know what he might do to me."
"Are you having an affair with Sam" joan asked
"No, not since Evan was conceived. I'm lucky to have seen Sam four times since Evan was born. The reason why I went to see him was to let him know about the cancer since he had skin cancer himself ten years ago and is in remission since they got to it in time"
"so he understands what you going through" Dave said
"Yes. he said i should tell Reg i said i would when i return but instead finding out about the fight and Evan leaving all because he brought two biscuits that got drugs in it which he didn't know about"
"We know about what happened and the woman who was selling them was busted for selling drug biscuits to kids" Joan said.
"Reg wouldn't go to apolgised to Evan for his mistake and for beating him up"
"does Evan know this"
"no but I will want to talk to him soon. Before…"
"When will you know if the treatment works?" Joan asked.
"There nothing that can be done, once it in your lymph nodes it can spread to my liver, to my brain, lunges"
"so the chemo keeping it at bay" Dave asked
"Only to slow it down"
"Do you know how much time you have?" Laura nodded as she cried. Then she looked at them both
"This will be my last christmas" she cried harder so Joan hugged her while looking at her husband of thirty years.
"Oh Laura we will help you if you need anything just let us know, we will be a phone call away"
"Thank you, both of you"
When Evan and Rose arrived at the prom they went and had their photo taken of them together and next one with their best mates in a group. Then they all went and enjoyed themselves having a wonderful time. During the evening there were the votes for prom queen and king.
When it was time the principle was up on stage "Good evening class of nineteen ninety five are you having a great time"
"YES" they all yell out
"That great now it time for your prom king and queen good luck to you all" then she showed them the first envelope
"Now you all voted your king, by ten votes the nineteen ninety five prom king is….. Evan Jones" everyone claps and cheers him on as he and Rose hug and kiss then he walks up on stage where he was giving his crown and staff.
"Now for your prom queen it was a close by one vote. Your nineteen ninety five prom queen is… Rose Watson."
Everyone clapped and cheered as Rose walked to the steps and up on the stage while still in shock. They put the crown on her and gave her a bouquet of roses then she hugged and kissed Evan. Then she turns to everyone while smiling. When the clapping died down
"Words from our king and queen."
"You go first Rose" Evan said. Rose steps forward up to the microphone.
"Thank you for voting for me. I am honored to be your prom queen, thank you" then she stepped back as everyone clapped.
Then Evan stepped ford. "Thank you for voting for me. This year we all been through good times and bad times. But we all been there for each other that is what i call true friends. There is one thing I want to do which far as I know hasn't been done in high school history till now" he turned to Rose and held out his hand to her.
She stepped forward and put her hand into his till she was standing next to him. He took the roses from her arms and passed them to the principal then he turned back and removed the mic from the stand then turned and held onto Rose's hands while looking at her.
"Rose, I loved you for a very long time, I know I was a fool letting you go not telling you sooner how I feel about you until we started opening up to each other after you found out about the locket. I'm pleased you convinced me to stay and finish school, I would have been an ass in years to come cause i didn't complete it. Thank you for being my friend and my girlfriend"
"It's about time" someone yells out, making everyone laugh.
"Rose no matter what the future holds for our friends and our classmates. There is one thing i would love to happen in our future" then he pulled the box from his pocket and held the microphone in the other hand as he got down on his knee.
Everyone looked shocked "I love you, Will you Rose Watson agree to become my wife. You dad gave me his blessing tonight. I don't care if we have a short or a long engagement so long as we are together that all matter to me"
"Yes, yes i will marry you Evan"
Every one clapped and cheered as Even slipped the ring onto her finger then he stood up and put the microphone back into its spot then he hugged and kissed her. When they pulled apart the principal congratulated them both before stepping ford
"Congratulations Evan and Rose, Now the king and queen first dance. You two might as well get into practice for your wedding dance" Everyone laughs.
Rose and Evan walk down and onto the dance floor when the music starts for dance. Rose looked at Evan in shocked when she recognized the song 'i swear'
"Evan how" she asked as they started dancing.
"I spoke to the principal an hour ago and she agreed if we became prom king and queen and if you said yes to my proposal."
"You sure can be full of surprises tonight Evan"
"Yes i can be" then they kiss and hold each other close as they dance around the floor till the song is over and another song starts.
So they left the dance floor to get their king and queen photo taken then they joined their friends. When Rose looked at the ring more closely she saw it was a carat oval pink sapphire with heart shaped diamond on each side diamonds in white gold setting and with a three millmetter rose gold band.
"Wow, Rose, do you like it" one of there friends asked
"I love it but it must cost a lot of money"
"You are so lucky"
"thanks"
It was just after midnight when the limo dropped Evan and Rose off home. When they walk up to the back door step. Evan used his key to unlock the door and open it for her.
"I'll see you in the morning" Evan said as they kiss
"It is morning" she said giggling
"You know what i mean"
"Yeah i do, love you"
"i love you to good night and sweet dream" he kiss her once more
"you to Evan" she walk in side as he walk down the step then stop and turn to her
"Hey Rose" she pull the door back
"We will tell them in the morning"
"Sounds good to me" she said smiling as she closed and locked the door while Evan walked over to the garage and up the steps to his place.
The next morning he called his mum he was please that she answered the phone "Hello"
"mum it Evan"
"Hi i can't talk long Reg is home"
"ok mum when can you come around"
"Why"
"the prom from last night, Rose and i got a surprise so when do you think you can make it"
"give me an hour"
"Ok see you then"
"Ok son" then they hung up.
Evan walks into the house a couple of minutes later for breakfast. "Morning" he said
"Morning Evan how did the prom go last night" joan asked
"It went great, everyone had a blast"
"that great to know"
"I called mum, she is going to be here in an hour then we can tell you all about it" Evan said
"Yeah mum, dad all the juicy things that happen, who got on to who, who got caught making out in the storage closet things like that" Rose said smiling.
It was an hour and half later when Laura arrived. Evan hug his mum. "I'm pleased you can make it, come inside" They walked inside and sat down when Joan Dave and Rose showed up and sat down.
Evan stood next to rose. "We got some news to share" rose said smiling
"what is it"
"We were voted prom king and queen last night," Evan said. They were shocked then smile
"Congratulations but you could tell me this over the phone" Laura said.
"We know that mum, but…" Rose raised her left hand while grinning
"We getting married" They saw their parents shocked faces then they grin as they stood up and hug them
"congratulation to you both" Laura said
"thanks mum" they look at the ring
"Rose do you like it" Dave asked
"Dad i love it, Evan knows me all to well"
"that is so true"
"Mum are you ok"
"they are happy tears"
"Mum i know you, they are not happy tears, please tell me" she look at him then she cried so he hug her "Mum what wrong" She pulled back
"Oh Evan"
"Mum" he was confused. She sat down and he sat next to her holding her hand while looking at her. "Mum, what is it?" She looked up at him and cupped his face.
"Not today, today should be a happy day with the news" rose look at her parents
"mum dad you know what going on"
"Yes we do"
"Mum tell me please"
"I'm dying Evan" Rose and Evan was shocked
"what, what is it"
"Cancer, this christmas will be my last christmas" then she started to cry so he hug her as he started to cry as well
"no it can't be" Rose started to cry as well, and Joan hugged her.
"How much time"
"A year possible less"
"what about chemo"
"i've been having it it slow the cancer for how long i don't know"
"what is it, the cancer how"
"skin cancer, it spread to my lymph nodes"
"which means"
"Once they reach lymph nodes, they could go anywhere"
"Oh mum" he hugged her once again. "Dose dad and Dylan know"
"no"
"Who else knows"
"sam, your father knows and understands what i'm going through"
"You keep in contact with him and not tell me about it"
"Evan Reg and Dylan don't know, Les Anderson doesn't know that Sam and I have been keeping in contact, boy if Reg finds out"
"I know what will happen. But what do you mean Sam under stands"
"He had skin cancer ten years ago, it was caught in time. Mine wasn't cause i left it too late to get check out"
"so yesterday when you were here, you had chemo"
"Yes the day before"
"you should of told me sooner so i can be there to support you"
"I know but you going through a lot yourself and having this on top wouldn't have helped" rose step ford putting her hand on Evan shoulder, he turned to her.
"We would of done it together, he was there for me when i was going through hell and now i'm going to be there for him and you, so you won't be going through this alone"
"thanks Rose"
"Evan" he turned to Rose.
"I was just thinking, what do you think about getting married in December" they all look at Rose
"This december"
"Yes, the fourteenth day after school finishes and before the holiday starts. We can invited all our classmates to the wedding before they leave for there holiday and uni next year"
"that in three months, do you think we can pull it off and the money side will be tight"
"No problems there, what do you think" Evan thought about it and turn to his mum then he turn to Rose and smile
"Fourteenth of December it is, we got a lot to do"
"Yes we do and we can make it work" Evan turns to his mum.
"I would like Sam to be at the wedding and i would like to met him"
"I'll let him know but are you sure you don't want to wait for a while"
"Mum we want to do it"
"Before you heath get any worse and you will be able to dance with the groom on his wedding day" rose said
"Your right"
"Well we might as well get started on the guest list" Rose said walking out of the room
"Looks like it's going to be one big party," Evan said.
