Sometimes, connections are made over time, memories and emotions as a guide. The buildup up trust and care allowing two people to become closer as time passes.
Other times, it takes but a split second. The touch of a hand or the whisper of a word enough to irrevocably bind one person to another.
In his case, it was a bit of both. The first time his eyes caught a glimpse of her on the TV screen, he thought his heart would burst out of his chest. A boy's crush on a beautiful, unattainable woman had him gripped tightly. As time passed, he believed himself to have the upper hand on his emotions; at least to the point that he could use them to his advantage.
When he was told he couldn't accomplish something, he pictured her in his mind and his resolve was doubled. When his body was wracked with pain, her own tear-filled eyes had him gritting his teeth, determined to bear it.
The first time he saw her in person, his heart leapt into his throat. All the feelings he'd believed merely a boy's crush were back in full force, nearly knocking him off his feet. He gave her a nervous smile, hoping she'd chalk it up to his being new. He quickly wiped his sweaty palm on his pants before shaking her proffered hand.
"Hello, Zach, I'm Stephanie McMahon."
"I know- I mean, it's nice to meet you."
As she sweetly smiled at him, Zach Gowen knew his heart had been lost forever.
A boy's crush…had become a man's love.
