Author's Note: I don't own anything Doctor Who. Don't smite me. This is
just a mini-fic I wrote at work. A fun little. chase (
The Chase
Breathing. Hard breathing. She brought the knife up to her chest, creeping up to the corner. The white walls were smooth and oddly alive against her back as she silently moved along the corridor. They too had their pulse. The deep gasping breaths had subsided, giving her no clue as to where he was now. Crouching down, she smelled the air.
oO This way. He's moved on.. Oo
Sure enough, moments later she could hear his footfalls echoing through the stark hallways as he ran away.
oO Oooooooooh, I'll get you, no matter where you run. Oo
The huntress bolted down a parallel hall, knife at the ready, ears listening for the slightest hint of movement.
oO There! Oo
Dashing through the crossway, she caught sight of a scarf flapping past. With lightning quick reflexes she reached round the corner, grabbed it, gave it a good jerk, and leapt on top of the offender, pinning him down with her weight.
Grinning up at her laid the Doctor. "Hullo! So you've got me then?"
Leela smiled back, triumphant. "Yes I do Doctor!" With that, she leaned forward on her knees, proving to him that he was truly pinned to the ground, disabled.
"Oof! Yes, yes, so I see, you've caught me. Now let me up!" He let his head fall to the ground and stopped trying to move his nearly-numb fingers.
Leela rolled off of him and stood up, brushing off her skins and sheathing her knife. Holding her head high she said, "See? I am faster than you." She stalked off to her left, keeping her peripheral vision on him. "Doctor- -- why did you challenge me and then run off like that?"
"Aaah, yeeesssss, perhaps you are..." He paused to answer the second question. "Must keep you in shape, you know! Very important to simulate your normal living conditions! Hunter-hunted, predator-prey and all that..." oO Ah, now here's the way to rile her! Oo "But Leela, if you're such a good huntress, do you know where we are and how to get back to the Console Room?" he asked slyly.
Leela stopped in her tracks and looked around, hands on hips. oO Dirty Tesh! Where am I? All these corridors look the same! Oo With a sigh she replied, "No, Doctor, I do not know where we are, nor how to return to the Console Room."
The two sized each other up for a moment, and then the Doctor dissolved all seriousness by remarking, "Oh dear, I had so hoped you would. Because I have no idea either!" They both laughed, and Leela shook her head.
"Let's find our way back shall we?" The Doctor held out his arm and, after a moment's pause, Leela linked her arm through his, following his lead. Together they walked jauntily down the hall (towards the console room they hoped). He with his long strides, his scarf trailing behind him and curled hair flopping about; she with the practiced walk of a huntress, happy to have captured her prey.
