*~PROLOGUE~*

Jade blinked. She could have sworn…no. It couldn't have been. She rubbed her eyes frantically and gazed out the window at the clear blue pond under the willow tree.

Nothing.

She looked for a minute longer, her eyes scanning wildly across the puddle and breathed out a sigh of relief. For a minute there, she had thought she had seen the water start to bubble violently, but that was impossible! Her eyes were deceiving her.

Turning her body around and facing her black grand piano, she wiggled her fingers to stretch them out a bit, and saw it again out of the corner of her eye! She shot her head to the left and stared hard at the pond. Jade move around her fingers slightly, her eyes still locked on her pond. The waters stirred. She wiggled them more roughly and watched as the pond water bubbled again. She moved her fingers even harder, and the water looked as if it was boiling. Jade stopped and the water looked as if it had never been touched before.

'What's going on here?' Jade demanded in her head. 'It's as if I can move water!'

Jade thought for a moment, abandoning the piano. 'Maybe I'm hallucinating,' she suggested. 'Maybe it's because I haven't been in the water for so long, I'm thinking that I can do tricks with it.'

Since she was only four years old, Jade had loved swimming. Every summer she and her grandma would go to the beach with Jade's fat little floats wrapped around her small chubby arms, and together, they would spend the whole day there, coming back home with large tans and unbearable sunburns. But Jade had always told herself that it was worth it if she could be in the water.

This summer had been different, however. Grandma had died a few months ago from old age, and Jade was stuck at home with nothing to do except practice the stupid piano…and that also meant no beach and water this year.

"Jade!" a rough female voice barked from the kitchen behind Jade. "You haven't touched a single key from that piano, so get moving! Now!"

Jade sighed impatiently, and got to work on her piano playing.
