An Endless Nightmare

Otto bolted through the hospital doors and down the corridor. A cold wave of shock ran through him. I There is no way this is happening again,/I he thought. He ran to the nearest elevator, pushing the button frantically. "Come on, come on!"
The doors finally opened, and he almost knocked a lady with a broken arm over. He hopped inside the elevator and pressed the round circle with "3" on it. He knew he'd feel guilty about almost knocking that woman down later, but he didn't have time to apologize. "Stupid elevator!"
He was out of breath and his heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. He paced in the small enclosure, cursing, hoping it would go faster. "Can't this thing go any faster? Man, I shoulda took the stairs." He just hoped he wasn't too late.
When he reached the third floor, he dashed from the elevator like lightning. Pushing doctors, nurses, and surgeons from his path, he finally reached room 319. He swung the door open and ran over to the bed on the other side of the room. What he looked down to see terrified him and made him sick to his stomach.
There lied Sunny, mangled and cut up. Her left arm was burnt all the way up just past her elbow. Her face was scraped and bruised. She had blood everywhere from head to toe. She didn't even look like herself.
Otto noticed Sunny's parents on the other side of the bed. Her dad had his arm wrapped around his wife; she was sobbing. He walked over to the doctor, who was talking to a nurse. "What happened? Is she gonna be okay?" Otto asked, almost crying.
The doctor looked sad and stressed out. He sighed and looked at Otto seriously. "She was driving down the road when someone came into her lane and hit her head on. She was going the speed limit, and the other person was going almost ninety. I don't know all the details, but she has major head injuries, and if she lives through this, we are going to have to amputate her left arm. We've tried everything, and nothing seems to work. All we can do now is hope."
Otto shook his head, confused. He could hear the beeping of one of the machines, telling everyone that her heart rate and breathing was low. "Come on, there's gotta be something, doc! You can't just let her die!" The machine began to beep slower.
IDie…/Ithat word horrified Otto.
He walked over and held Sunny's hand. "Sunny, come on, wake up! It's me, Otto, and you're parents are here too. You can make it, I know you can. Sunny, please, just wake up. I love you Sunny, you're all I have. You're parents love you. I love you…" Hot tears streaked down his face.
Right then, the beeping machine beeped a long loud beep. The doctor and nurse scrambled to the bedside, pushing Otto out of the way. The checked out some of the machines and shook their heads. "I'm sorry. We've lost her."
I Lost her? LOST her? You act like you've just lost a set of keys, or something! She's more than that! /I
The world right then seemed to stop for Otto. He could hear someone screaming in the background, but didn't comprehend to it. It almost seemed distant, like a million miles away. He could feel a scream rising in his throat.
"NO!" Otto screamed as he sat up in bed, out of breath. He felt like he had been running for miles. Cold sweat was running down his forehead. His shirt adhered to his skin, making it seem like a warm, wet blanket. He had had another nightmare about Sunny again. For some reason, lately, he had been having dreams about the wreck that had occurred last year. (A/N: See my other fic, "The License.") Except there was one thing different; Sunny never lived in these nightmares.
Every time Otto would have that nightmare, he would call Sunny. She had told him that if he ever needed anything, no matter the time or place, to just give her a call. The thought comforted him. He picked up the phone and dialed her number.
