Night's Respite

A/N: Just an odd little stream of consciousness ficlet. It popped into my head and I wrote it. I don't even know where it came from.

Disclaimer: Technically, since no names are mentioned, it could belong to me, but then it would just be weird rambling, and I'm not that crazy…yet.

The truth was that night was falling. Darkness was winning and the light was fading from the world. All that had been truth was crumbling in the wake of this undeniable force. A force that could not be opposed and the likes of which would overwhelm all who lived. Those who still lived, for many had died, more than they would have ever thought could die. Those who lived were worse off though because they knew they were dying, dieing or dead. Life wasn't really a choice anymore. One of the simplest truths of life had also shattered with the tumbling night. Life no longer existed, it was not desired. Cursed were those who could not die, who were bound to the earth for some reason beyond themselves. These had turned to the darkness and reveled in it, like a desert flower in the rain. Barley alive and then suddenly drowning in life. So much life it almost killed them, but they would store that life and bury it deep where no others could find it, and they would feed off of it until the time came when they would no longer have to horde their stores. And while they endured the rest of us lost what spirit we had left. Only those shells of once people could tolerate the dark, the night, the ever waning moon that never seemed to glow again and the stars seemed duller. The nights were always blacker and the days, the sun, they never came…

Sun that hath forsaken us

Falling night that now binds us

Fading moon and dieing star

Darkness falls forevermore
