Hi guys, sorry to disappoint you if you thought this was another chappie,
but I guess there's a few things about my fic I need to clear up for all
you less educated in the background material of BattleFleet Gothic. . . .
Disclaimer: I do not, and never have, owned any part of any Games Workshop's productions or background. My ideas are purely fictional, ad just happen to take place in the area and time-space covered by the Games Workshop production, BattleFleet Gothic.
Next, to clear up some elements of background for some of my readers. . .
This fic is intended to be as authentic and faithful to the background lain around us by our hard-woking Games Workshop games developers. However, due to lack of material on some subjects, and the Mail Order Trolls who don't have a clue (hehehe, only kidding, they know what they're talking about when it comes to Mail Order, but they're not really up on their background material for Specialist Games!), some parts have been interpreted and analysed by me, and are my own perceptions of that element of the 40K universe.
A major point raised was the presence of Adeptus Astartes on an Imperial vessel. Well, this is a fairly complicated issue, but i'll try to lay it down as simple as I can. You see my friends, Shadowstalker, an Emperor class BATTLESHIP (no three guesses to which is the operative word in this sentence!), and being commanded by a SOLAR ADMIRAL (there I go again!), while having within its sacred hull whole regiments of loyal Imperial Guard troops and veterans who are used to maintain security, and attend to basic peace-keeping duties, would never dream of leaving for a pre-determined destination with such a high ranking officer on board without bulking up security greatly. This is why Space Marines are included in my story. There may only be a tactical squad of them, but thats ok, because their duties are usually just to maintain the tightest security possible around the Solar Admiral. Also, as we all know, Adeptus Astartes warriors do not amass themselves, into massed companies and regiments, as with the Imperial Guard. They organise themselves into Chapters, and then they divide themselves up again into smaller, more efficient chapter strike forces. When their presence is required in some sort of situation somewhere, there might not be enough of them needed to justify the use of one of the blessed Emperor's space vessels for such a mundane task, so they would naturally be transported aboard and Imperial ship, with their Guard brethren. However, I never said they were happy about this. . . .
Another point, some readers seem to believe that the crew could be called on to fight if a boarding action was ever undertaken by the Great Enemy. While this seems reasonable enough, I opted out of using that, because the crew are worked to the bone, to the marrow, even, every day that they serve aboard. They are filthy, haggard, and probably hungry. This lead me to believe that they could even possibly become mutinous, and arming a mob like that to fight could do more harm than good, also they would probably be too tired to fight, and are not armed or armoured, so would just get cut down in their hundreds. In the Imperial Guard 40k codex, right at the beginning there is a rule for commisars executing soldiers for cowardice. In that paragraph of text, there is also a rule for removing commisars as casualties, due to the squad becoming rebellious and mutinous, tired of fighting for some jerk who's ultimately going to kill them anyway!
I hope this clears some issues up, but in the end, if you don't like the way i'm doing this fic, you won't read it anyway!!!!
