It was a small wedding. There were exactly 13 people in attendance. Charlie had been summoned for the occasion. Cassie Fraiser was of course the maid of honor, Batai stood as the best man. General Hammond was the officiate. Jack performed his duty as father of the bride, though he didn't exactly relish it. Cass wore the same dress her mother had worn to her wedding (only nine years ago), Cassie wore a turqoise sheeth and the men were all in dress uniform. (Even the Tok'ra who had had them made special when they joined the SGC)
The ceremony was held in the O'Neill's backyard. The sun shone high in the brillant blue sky, and a nice breeze blew the heat of the afternoon away.
No one bothered to clap or cry when Hammond finally gave the couple permission to kiss, though Jack squeezed Sam's hand a little too hard for comfort. His wife knew he was going to be sulky that night. He was overly protective of his oldest daughter, and like any father, felt like he was losing her. Why, exactly, Sam couldn't understand. The girl lived right next door and spoke to her father more than she spoke to anyone. She never went an entire day without at least coming over for a couple hours just to "hang out". She actually spent more of her time in her parent's house than she did her own.
There was a reception, also held at the O'Neill's, an hour after the ceremony for friends from the SGC. The twins were repimanded more than once for throwing strawberry's at each other, ruining the new outfits they'd recieved special for their sister's wedding. Jacob and Jack compared notes on their respective daughter's weddings and how it felt to see their children get married. Sam and Janet smiled at everyone and extended thanks for congratulations. Daniel was explaining the intricacies and rituals of earth marriages to Teal'c, and the wedding party was enjoying their food. Cass and Greg shared their first dance, her happy face glowing. Then she shared a dance with her father, and somehow the entire room managed to feel like they'd completely disappeared. Then Amanda and Richard both demanded a dance with their sister and new brother, and after them each "family" member took their turns with the couple. (Though Teal'c tried to get out of it)
The entire affair lasted only a few hours and then Greg and Cass retired to their own house. They weren't taking a honeymoon, thinking it surpfluous, considering they felt as if they'd been married for years.
Back in Jack and Sam's bedroom, Jack was just laying his head on the pillow. He sighed heavily, wishing he still had a hidden bottle of Jack Daniel's somewhere. Sam put her head over his art and he wrapped an arm around her.
"Well" he looked straight up at the ceiling, "This sucks"
