Not Like Helen By RoseRed

I would like to thank my beta, Shivering Angel. Thank you!

This is a pretty dark fic…I do not know if anyone will choose to continue reading it, but could you please review the first chapter?

As I stepped of the Hogwarts Express into the crisp, evening air surrounding the massive castle, I could think of no happy thoughts. Every couple of minutes, no matter what the current distraction, my thoughts would turn suddenly to ones of my older sister. Sure, our educations have been slightly different, but our paths could still turn out nearly the same.

Helen had been an over-achiever just like me, but had failed the last year of high school. No one had expected it, she had been doing so well. The highest marks, higher then a 4.0, everything that was going to get her into the school of her choice, but that last year she met someone. Helen thought he was one of the gods; she was head-over-heals in love with that boy. Before she had the courage to ask him out, he asked her. He had heard that she liked him, and decided that one of them had to have the bravery! Helen couldn't believe her luck, she had never considered herself pretty. Bushy hair, bigger then average teeth, book- worm, you know the type, a female nerd. Yes, we were a lot alike. Even though we never really got along, we were a lot alike.

Anyways, after they had been dating for about a month, people started to notice that her grades were slipping. People were seeing less and less of her, and more and more of Roger and Helen. She was never apart from him. She did, though, start to look very tired, sad and uncomfortable around him. A couple of more months went by, and people noticed more changes. Helen starts to cut classes, forget homework, things like that. By the end of the fifth month, Helen was dead. They found a suicide note in her room. Those words will haunt me for the rest of my life,

I am sorry. If you all could know the circumstances you would know there was no other choice for me, no other way out. I never wanted this to happen.

Tell Hermione to never let this happen to her, never let her give up!

Tell Roger I never stopped loving him, but he killed my baby. He killed it! Please, don't punish him.

I love you all.

Helen Granger

There was an autopsy, Helen had been pregnant. It appeared that her stomach had been kicked many times, and this killed the unborn baby. Our parents ignored her wishes and took Roger to court. He confessed before the trial ever began, and we settled at murder two, and assault. He got twenty years. Twenty years for killing a baby, and making another kill herself. Just twenty years. I vowed on that day never to let that happen to me. I would not follow in the footsteps of my older sister. Never.

"Hermione?" My daydream ended when I heard Ron call me. I opened my eyes to see all of my class walking up the steps, into the school. I reluctantly followed. Harry and Ron were still staring at me. Little did they know how deep my thoughts were.

The welcome feast passed as slowly as it always did. People were sorted, food was eaten, and then we all went back up to our rooms and complained about our schedules. Ron and Harry commented on my, once again, higher then usual amount of classes. I took the maximum amount. I was not going to fail. I could not fail.

I went to sleep that night thinking about life, thinking about everything that a seventeen year old girl should not have to think about.
