Shoes

[Author's note: I just want to state now that I'm not trying to say Kurt can't tie shoelaces. Keep in mind that a child's shoelaces might just be a little too thin and short for him.]

"Daddy will you tie my shoes for me?" Leyna asked, looking up at her father.

Kurt had been where he quite often went to relax, on the balcony suspended by his tail from a beam in the ceiling. This was something Leyna was dying to try on her own, but her parents insisted she was too young.

"Where's your mother?" Kurt replied. "Why don't you ask her to do it?"

"She's in the bathtub and she said you'd do it for me."

Kurt mentally cursed his wife who he knew must have laughed as she gave their child the order. Ami knew just how horrible Kurt was with shoes.

"Daddy?"

With a sigh Kurt flipped down next o Leyna and eyed the untied laces at her feet. "Of course I will sweetie, don't worry."

Kneeling down he took the laces in his hands and made a clumsy attempt at tying them. His first try didn't work so he tried a second time, and then a third. He was beginning to feel very foolish and a little frustrated.

Leyna laughed. "Daddy, try for real!" She told him, thinking it was all a game.

Kurt laughed too, feeling a little better. His main problem was that his hands weren't exactly designed for tying the thin short strings. Finally, after a couple more failed attempts he had an idea.

"You know what would look better with this dress?" He asked.

Leyna shook her head.

"Sandals."

"But I don't have any sandals."

Kurt smiled. "Oh, I think I can find some. Wait here." He disappeared into the apartment and returned a moment later carrying a brand new pair of white sandals.

Leyna's eyes lit up as Kurt helped her put the sandals on and fasten the buckles. "They're so pretty!" she squealed happily.

Dying to show off her new footwear, Leyna pranced around the apartment, running up to Ami the moment she got out of the bathtub.

"Look mommy!" She exclaimed. "Look what Daddy gave me!"

"Daddy gave you those did he?" Ami asked, her eyes moving towards the balcony. "Well I'm going to have to go tell him what good taste he has. They're very pretty sweetheart."

By the time Ami reached the balcony Kurt had regained his place on the beam and had his eyes closed.

"I know you aren't asleep, don't even try that."

One eye opened.

"Those were supposed to be a birthday present you know." Luckily for him she sounded amused, though she was going for angry.

"I don't know what you mean," Kurt said, opening both eyes. "You are the one who told her to ask my help, weren't you?"

Ami couldn't help but laugh. "You are such a sneaky little brat!"

He smiled, easily dismounting and landing behind her. Wrapping his arms around her waist and leaning in so that his breath tickled her ear he whispered, "Me? Sneaky?" His smile broadened as he moved in to kiss her neck.

"Damn you," Ami mumbled, giving in. They both knew there was no way she could resist Kurt's charm. "You're still picking out another present."

"Whatever you say dear."
