Hermione Granger and the Sorcerer's Stone
Chapter 1: The Owl letter

One summer morning, having finished, to her opinion, a very interesting book The History of Wanstead High School, Hermione Granger decided to go back to the library for the hundredth time that summer. She was so engrossed in remembering everything the book had said, that she never saw the large, tawny, barn owl flying towards her, until it landed on her shoulder.
"AAAAAAH!!!" Hermione jumped and screamed making the owl fly over and land on a nearby bench. When she had settled down, looked at the owl, who stuck out its leg exposing a piece of parchment. Obviously the owl wanted her to take it, so Hermione untied the ribbon attaching it to the owl's leg.
"Thank you, I guess." Hermione said as the owl took off. She looked at the paper; it was a thick, yellowish, parchment envelope with her address written in emerald-green ink. Turning it over, Hermione saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a badger, and a snake surrounding a large letter H. Hermione waited to open the envelope until after she got a new book from the library, The Golden Compass. Sitting down at one of the library's reading tables, Hermione carefully opened the envelope making sure not to break the wax seal. She carefully slid the contents out and unfolded the two pieces of parchment. The first piece said:

Hermione put down the letter and picked up the other parchment. It indeed was a supplies list, but she hadn't heard of half of the things on it.
Hermione was so excited that she didn't have to go to the local public school, and that he had an explanation for some of the strange things that had happened to her, that she walked quickly out of the library, and then ran to her parents' dentist's office. Hermione had to wait for a while for a little while before one of her parents could see what she wanted. Finally when Mrs. Granger came into the waiting room, Hermione ran to her hopping excitedly.
"Mum, mum, I have something to show you! Though let's go into your office first."
