"LOOK OUT!"
Why is it that things turn out this way? Why did that have to happen, just when I had to find out? That moment, no matter how quickly it passed for some, seemed to live a life and again for me. Me standing there, in the climax of the battle ready to take that final blast, him flying in to save me at the last moment and in a final flash finished it. She was dead. Out of all that we did or tried, that Beastmaster tyrant was dead. Flames are everywhere, swallowing up what's left of this damned hell. Now I'm here, sitting on the ground, mouth dropped open, awed at what just occurred. Why did he do it? I thought. I thought he hated me. My happy nature, my antics to stop him. It doesn't- it shouldn't make sense! But then, no one would've tried to save me. I could see in their horror stricken faces that I shouldn't have survived that. But. I did, thanks to him. I see. Maybe I was being blind, too blind to realize this until now. This is short-lived; I've been doing so well at straightening my emotions, keeping my cool-- most of the time. This is it though. This is the final straw.

"NO!"
She screamed finally, thrusting all her energy into running to his side. She looked down on him, her eyes filled with unshed tears, her arms cradling him closely to her heart.
What was going to happen? It crossed her thoughts more then she could count. She didn't want to know.
He coughed, blood running down his mouth. His arm, his side, his lung. gone from that blast. She gazed, saddened and surprised that she hadn't figured this out earlier. She gave it her best and forced a smile, although it hurt to try. He opened his eyes; the pain that reflected in them hurt her even more.
"Hey," she whispered, trying to keep from falling apart at the seams. He wheezed for a moment before opening his mouth and answering.
"Are.You.Okay?" he breathed, his voice straining worry.
'I'm fine thanks to you. But.I don't understand. Why did you save me after everything that I've done and said to you?' She asked, unable to hide her sadness any longer as tears streamed down her face. He paused for a moment, considering to answer like he always did it seemed.
"Because I love you," he said in one breath, as clear as his ragged voice could muster. Her eyes widened, memories of all the times she cursed him and threw everything in his face filling her mind. That's it. She knew it. She cried out loud, sobbing into him.
"I'm sorry," she stuttered between her sobbing. Her grip tightened, holding him close, never wanting to let go.
Lina stumbled behind her, Gourry supporting them both. They looked on in shock to see her crying like that. All for him. Flames jumped, nipping at their battle-worn clothes, growing over the plants and filling the sky with darkness.
"Is she alright?" A voice piped from behind. Lina and Gourry turned to him, giving a sorrowful smile. Lina panted a couple times and answered.
"Yea, Zel, she's fine," she answered, her eyes gleaming with the firelight. They turned their gaze back to the miserable girl ahead of them.
Amelia's guilt filled heart was about to burst. It came to her, now of all times. She felt it and she knew it. Her eyes followed his gaze until they locked in a silent stare.
He could tell that deep inside her mind, something was burning at her, a question or an idea of a sort. His purple eyes came into focus, gathering the strength to ask.
"Uh, what's. wrong?" he croaked, his voice failing him. She smiled a real smile, maybe the first one yet. She winked to him and wagged her finger a mysterious brightness coming into her expression.
"That's no secret, namagomi. I love you too."
