Melody
Notes: I own nothing. The song is Malaika, a Swahili love song that has
been covered by many artists including Angelique Kidjo.
It was late at night when he heard her singing.
He couldn't sleep. As usual. Sitting up in bed he propped his head on the pillow and started out the window at the moon, plagued by the same restless feeling he'd had since he arrived at the mansion. Not homesickness really, more like a kind of hollow emptiness. A lack of the familiar. Sighing, Kurt fingered his rosary and began to mumble a prayer. Lately, it was the only thing that calmed the void he felt inside.
Well, one of the only things.
The other thing was tall, willowy, and graceful. It was cocoa-colored skin, powder blue eyes that shone like the sky in summer, it was silver- white hair cascading in beautiful waves down a slender well-toned back.
The other thing was Ororo Munroe.
Kurt was in love. He'd barely admitted it to himself, but it gnawed at the back of his mind like a parasite. Deep inside himself, he knew what was causing the emptiness: he was in love with a woman he could never profess his affections to. How could he? Ororo was a goddess. She was untouchable. She was everything Kurt wanted to hold in his arms and touch and kiss. She was singing.
He was knocked out of his reverie by the sound of an angelic voice chanting words in a language he didn't know.
Nami nifanyeje, kijana mwenzio, Ningekuoa Malaika.
Nashindwa na mali sina, we, Ningekuoa Malaika.
He was moved by the words, even if he didn't know what they ment. Ororo's voice was fragile and strong at the same time, rising up and dropping again like a great ocean swell. Kurt realized he couldn't tell her he'd heard her singing. What would she think? A blush rose to his dark cheeks. He closed his eyes, and for the first time in weeks fell asleep peacefully by the sound of an angel's voice. The void was filled. As he drifted off to sleep the melody wrapped around him like a breeze...
Nami nifanyeje, kijana mwenzio, Ningekuoa Malaika.
Nashindwa na mali sina, we, Ningekuoa Malaika.
Nashindwa na mali sina, we, Ningekuoa Malaika.
He fell asleep dreaming of his angel, Ororo.
