Note: This is a prologue, but it's actually the ending to my story. The rest is a flashback which I'll publish later.
A golden sun slowly rose over the land of Hyrule. Everyday the sun rose, shining into the rooms where young children were resting, reflecting over the beauty of Lake Hylia, awakening villagers with morning light. Several Hylians always hiking up to the top of Death Mountain, wanting to be the first to see the sun rise, watching over all of Hyrule. Slowly the moon sets and the sun brings new life over the land.
Today was different. No one, even on the highest peaks of the mountains could catch a glimipse of the sun. Heavy smoke from the once peaceful Hyrule Field now an eternally burning torched battlefield filled the sky, holding a dark shadow over all who woke that morning, expecting to see the sun that once brought harmony to the land.
Only a few warriors were left that were trying to bring back that harmony, the bodies of the rest sprawled on the field, one by one being brought to the Temple of Shadows behind a nearby village, where the spirit of the creators of Hyrule would be protected by the dead.
The leader of the resistance, a young man of 25 named Link and father of a newborn boy, had not yet given up. He woke up his men.
"There's little that we can do now to win this battle. Although we are outnumbered, outweighed, and overpowered, one last attack can slow the black forces down until the sages can choose what to do," he paused. "Follow me."
They knew from the beginning they didn't have the power to stop who was behind the war. They knew at some battle, they last of them would die out. They knew that they wouldn't be the ones to restore Hyrule. What they did know, was that someone would. That there was someone that could handle the task, someone that would be destined by the gods to bring back the sacred land. Link knew who it was.
Just before he went into battle, he talked with his wife. He told her to bring their son to someone who would raise him to be the hero of time. Somehow, she understood, and knew where to take him although Link did not. She never saw Link again, and she never knew what happened to him, nor he to her. For she had died from being in the Lost woods, but not being of Kokiri origin. She starved and became a servant of the dark forces, but not before giving her son, named after his father, to the Deku Tree.
Link put up his own fight. Obtaining the three spiritual stones, and giving them to ones that would not give it up easily. He gave it to them so only his son would be able to obtain them. His tasks finished only moments before he left to fight. He never saw Hyrule again.
