Of Something Long Gone

Two Paths lie before me, side by side,
One feigning darkness, one feigning light.
I followed the dark, yet clear I could see,
For the path led to you, and angel to me.

Forbidden were you. Forbidden was I.
I gave no heed and our hearts rang true.
Cold grey eyes, hard as steel,
Cutting deep into me, making me feel.

It felt so right, yet it couldn't work,
The hatred of others parted our way.
Your soul had been sold at your birth,
Bonded to another, with the power to break.

Our chains grew tighter by the year.
Our union something both hated and feared.
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
They don't understand
You are not darkness, I am not light.

I left you alone for both of our sake,
But I realized my folly far too late.
You were broken beyond repair,
Forced to go on, immersed in despair.

Deep in our hearts, we both knew the truth.
If we had stayed, we both would've died.
As I look back, overwhelmed with regret,
Was this other life worth its sacrifice?

When Death comes, I'll be glad to die,
Your touch ever haunting, day and night.
In the shadow of Hell I'll think of you.
Had I another chance, which path would I choose?
Even now, the answer's always the same,
No happiness is worse than some and shame.

I love you more than you'll ever know,
Golden haired Lucifer, my greatest foe.
